Reviews for Hotel Alegria
Review 1:Windows and decorations were covered in spider webs upon arrival, had to request additional cleaning. Pans and utensils in kitchen were still dirty from previous use.
Review 2:Amazing location right on the beach. Spacious studio with full kitchen.
Review 3:A rather damp, grimy, tumble-down affair despite its nice location. The online photos (not to mention the hotel name) are deceptive in that they do not reveal the fact that this place has not been properly maintained. Parts of the rooms have been cobbled together with outdoor fittings, the paint job on the interior walls tries but does not cover structural damage, and the fixtures like the cook-top and fridge are soiled and unseemly. Worst of all is the plumbing: the shower did not drain, leaving us standing in filth, and the toilet had to be filled with water from the wastebasket in the bathroom in order to flush down the excrement. We did not even get to meet the owner/manager (probably out of shame), but he did slide a note under our door reminding us that we owed a few dollars more on our bill because, almost unbelievably, we were enjoying one of his “superior” class rooms. We relocated as soon as something else became available. Avoid this overpriced place at all costs!
Review 4:Loved the location. The price is excellent, and we had no problems. Great little hotel. Also an excellent restaurant; great food and great service.
Review 5:Location was perfect. We had an apartment. It was a very short walk to the super market and close to the restaurant and bars but not close enough to hear the noise all night.
Review 6:The mattress could do with replacing. Rooms 12 and 13 are small. Room 11 is a good size with table and chairs inside and out and what appeared to be a king-size bed.
Review 7:Off the main drag but only a 5 - 7 min walk to the heart of Cabarete, even quicker if you walk the beach. Quiet area, grocery store 1 block away, direct beach access, well-appointed kitchen and warm, accommodating owner and staff were the highlights.
Review 8:Really nice place, would go here again. The staff were very helpful. The place had hot shower, full kitchen with kitchen supplies, AC + fan and clean drinking water. Right beside the beach, restaurants and a supermarket (if you want snacks, drinks or food to cook).
Review 9:the air conditioner was so small and it didn't work well. so many cockroach in the room and bathroom. The person who was working in front desk was not so kind.
Review 10:The location
Review 11:Television had only 2 volumes - loud and louder
Review 12:Restaurant had excellent food and service. We ate breakfast there several times and when we tried other places we wished that we had stayed and ate at the hotel.
Review 13:Rooms could use some updating but the price per night was fair enough for this area of town.
Review 14:Easy access to the beach and close to all major amenities in Cabarete. Owner was friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay within walking distance to the main beach, Janet's supermarket, and shopping.
Review 15:The bed too soft and small ,not have a pool
Review 16:Nice location, very close to the beach many variety of restaurants and big supermarket near and alot of sporting to do
Review 17:I did not like that the owner even though he seemed nice at first did not care to extend us the check out with the excuse that the cleaning lady leaves early but needless to say that the next day were 11 empty rooms as per booking.com. The stairs to the room are very steep... Room was very small and ordinary. Meals in the restaurant which was not a luxury restaurant by any standards were very expensive where at the beach nice restaurants were at least 25% less expensive. No parking to this "hotel" you have to leave your car parked outside on the dirt road which gives entrance to this hotel. Jacuzzi heater was not working. Also I was woken up the next morning by hammering on the roof at 8AM in the morning without consideration for guest paying to stay there.
Review 18:Location was close to the beach (not in front of the beach as described on their page)
Review 19:It was the low season and I appeared to be the only guest. Got that lonesome feeling. Shower and internet coverage were spotty. Never quite figured out the air conditioner. Property is a little beaten up.
Review 20:Great location with ATM and grocery store a block away. On a point at the start of the beach. Staff was very helpful and could not have been any better. Excellent value.
Review 21:I liked the location (almost on the beach, and near supermarket). I also enjoyed the functional kitchen. The staff was helpful. I was in the large studio, with my girlfriend and her teenaged daughter, and the four beds worked out well.
Review 22:had a problem with ants on our second night, the staff was helpful, but the ants seemed to be coming from the bed somewhere and sleep was limited.
Review 23:good location near the beach, limited beach views, loved the restaurant.
Review 24:Great need for supplying a mosquito net.Needed to cover head to toe in bedsheet, even though I sprayed repellent head to toe.
Review 25:Proximity to supermarket and beach
Review 26:The "ocean view" was mostly blocked by trees.
Review 27:Conveniently located close to the beaches/town center, but far enough away that you can fall asleep to the sound of the ocean (not the raging nightlife!) Owner was very helpful in terms of helping to arrange activities, seemed to always be at least one staff member who speaks English around the main reception area.
Review 28:They lost my reservation even though I had paid the deposit ahead of time. Luckily they did have a room available but I would have been very angry if we hadnt been so luckily since we drove so far to see cabarete.
Review 29:Great value for the money. the room wasnt fancy but had great internet, tv and a decent location close to the beach.
Review 30:Most comfortable bed we have slept on in the DR! Staff was very friendly and helpful (especially Joseph at the front desk). Hotel is located close to everything and setback off the main road! Restaurant looks very nice (had a great cup of coffee there) but we did not eat there this time...next time :) We will be back!!!
Review 31:Amenities were nil Fridge was broken till my husband fixed . The hotplate was repaired 2times and each time we told them the fire came outall over the third time he brought us a new one but when lit theconnection behind had fire. The propane tank was turned off after use asit smelled. .We were in #14 which was filthy and took two bottles ofLysol to make it habitable Hot water was a luxury when you had any. Wewere in what we nicknamed the bunker as there was one window filthyfrosted glass covered by vines so we left our door open all gthe time Wehad no balcony and I scrubbed the chairs outside so we could use themthe Table was Hopeless' We ate outside at our friends that fairedbetter as if you sat in the sand or grass!!!you were bitten and becamelunch. The shower plugged twice We had no coffee pot but he finally gaveus one The toaster my husband fixed with Duct tape Cupboards were filthyso I washed only what I would need as well as the whole bathroom got aLysol treatment. I am not a priss but he offered to move us upstairs butsince I had a knee replacement and the room was on the 3rd floor andvery slippery stairs I chose to stay at the Bunker. The grounds areterrible with walkways and holes so I fell and spent 2 days in bed.Iguess you got the drift and Peter can smooth everything out and mycomment can be deleted from this pageIf you recommend this hotel I willnot be booking through you ortravel advisor again #14
Review 32:My friends that were there Joseph , close to Antionio pizza, Janetsmarket on corner. Near beach
Review 33:Little outdated. The safe was hard to open.
Review 34:Friendly staff. Nice location. Close to the beach. Nice restaurante. Close to the supermarket. Price was resenable.
Review 35:Staff friendly but didn't speak English at all (Google translate helped!!) Quite basic without a local vibe
Review 36:Right next to the beach Option for air con and ocean view (which we loved!) Jacuzzi on the roof Next to Janet's supermarket Next to the bus stop for semana/las galeras/las terranas
Review 37:At first - no coffee. I was there at Christmas and at my first morning Iunderstood there is no coffee. The restaurant was closed, inside of therooms had no coffee machine. To drink a coffee I must go outside of thehotel to bought it from a local seller. The connection with internetinside of the room was terrifying! I need to send an email, but this wasimpossible and often connection disappear. Inside rooms need to berefreshed, the bathroom need to be rebuild. I had a few clothes for alaundry and I was very surprised when the guy from a reception told methey have no laundry service for their guests. O_o I'll think a lotif it's necessary to stay there. May be never again.
Review 38:Staff
Review 39:Poor cleaning, a lot of dust in the bedroom. Toilet seemed to be leaking. Refrigerator didn't close very well, had to check that it was correctly closed.
Review 40:Close to center Cabarete. Very quite. Beach is 20 mts. away. Good air conditioning. Supermarket is close to the hotel also. Hot water was great.
Review 41:There really is no seaview from the top of hotel - too many trees Most of the things are old and used - like no shelves in cupboard and refrigerator that does not cool very much Some basic cleaning missing
Review 42:Staff is helpfull It is on the eastside of Cabarete beach so you can walk along the beach to town
Review 43:Tired and fairly grubby place. Noisy fan. Soft mattress. Old bathroom. Needs money spending.
Review 44:Good helpful and honest staff in reception. Joseph is a good guy. Good location near the supermarket. 5 min walk to centre. Cheap for something with a sea view.
Review 45:Smells humid in the rooms, internet didnt work many days.
Review 46:They clean everyday your room, nice staff, close to the beach and any other place. Quality for price is awesome, really quiet not any noise in the night, next to supermarket and laundry!
Review 47:Nothing to dislike.
Review 48:The location was excellent. Only a short walk to beach, Center Cabarete and supermarket (Janet's). Staff very friendly and extremely helpful. Rafael is the man. Peter, the owner, welcomed us upon arrival and the restaurant on site La Terrasse, is great. Highly recommend Hotel Alegria. Our place of choice now when visiting and will definitely recommend.
Review 49:Stayed for 7 nights while I searched for an apartment. I have nothing bad to say about my experience at the hotel. Super friendly staff. Great breakfast at the restaurant. Clean room. And did I mention to say super friendly staff!
Review 50:the apartment was not as clean as it should be, and the air conditionated was not working very well, also there was a problem of linking water from the toilet.
Review 51:location, and the facilities of the hotel
Review 52:Initially our 'double bed' was two singles pushed together. We eventually got this sorted out on day #2 of our stay
Review 53:Location, owner was helpful
Review 54:Can't think of much that we didn't like. We were up early on Sunday morning and the restaurant wasn't open so we walked a little ways down the beach to find a cup of coffee - but that really wasn't a negative. The walk on the beach was nice. Alegria is an older hotel but it is very reasonably priced and seemed to be well maintained. But if you are looking for a 5 star hotel, you will be disappointed because it is not that. It is a well priced, comfortable place to stay - we would definitely stay there again.
Review 55:We were looking for a quiet place to unwind after a busy month of work. The Alegria was in a quiet neighborhood but close enough to walk to restaurants either on the road or on the beach. We could see the ocean from our room and had a very nice porch. The night we were there was very warm so we didn't spend much time outside but SO enjoyed the air conditioned comfort of our room! We were also able to bring our dog with us.
Review 56:Dont think the superior room was all that superior. Oceanview is true but like, it a pretty depressing view and I imagined it would be like beachside. Jacuzzi upstairs was quite filthy but still nice addition. The "gym" was so run down, wouldnt feel safe working out there. Wish I would have been offered to switch rooms and/or pay a lot less when I complained about the superior room but was offered a 10$ discount for the worst room (the difference on the website was like 20$).
Review 57:Pretty cheap but it depends on what you compare too. I think 55$ is a bit of a stretch for the "superior" room that wasnt very superior but 35$ for the fan one which i tried last night was smaller but had the same facilities more or less minus AC then. It was nice for them to offer to allow me to shower past checkout since I went on a tour early on the checkout-date.
Review 58:Right on the beach
Review 59:cool place grocery store two min away!
Review 60:Great little place cool roof top areas

Review 100:I didnt like how outdated the rooms were, it felt dirty and old.
Review 101:I liked that it was close to the beach
Review 102:For the price you can't beat it. Staff is great . Close to everything .
Review 103:Everything was great, no complaintsnothing
Review 104:Jose was fantastic! It is centrally located and very clean.
Review 105:Had to clean out the dresser and drawers before putting clothes away. Dresser was fixed 2 days after arrival but wasn't really fixed so couldn't use the last 2 drawers. Didn't want to keep complaining as I was on vacation and had other things on my mind. Hotel needs some elbow grease and love, has great bones and fabulous location. If it had been a bit cheaper would have met my expectations but at the price felt it was not to the calibur it should have been.
Review 106:Excellent location, safe and well positioned and staff were wonderful especially Joseph. Issues were addressed quickly although while on vacation you would rather not have to provide a "honey do list" Cleanliness of bed and towels was great.
Review 107:Dark very dated room with mosquitoes as no glass windows and poor mesh protection. Not condusive to spending any time in room. Some rooms better than others, think I was in a bad one.
Review 108:Good location. Short walk into Cabarete town and supermarket very close.
Review 109:Well, the Wi-Fi in our room went in and out often. It's not a deal breaker but we needed it to make Skype calls to family back home. I would still recommend this place to others.
Review 110:I liked the location. We were a 2 minute walk from the Janet's grocery store, the bank, the beach. We were 5 minutes away from all the bars/restaurants. My friends and I stayed in the large studio and it was perfect for us. The shower water stayed hot through every time we showered! Often I was the last of 5 to shower and the water was still really hot! I will definitely recommend this place to others and when/if I return I will stay with Hotel Alegria again.
Review 111:My room was very small and in poor condition compared to the price i payed and had lights shining directly this and the noise from the road lying close by made it very difficult to get sleep. When i wanted to check out early the owner and one of the staff at the reception was very rude and only paid back a small of the money i paid for a weeks stay. I chose to move out anyways because of this treatment and had as you can imagine a very poor overall experience. HJ Sweden
