Reviews for Hotel Niza

Review 1:Lack of facilities in room, no kettle for cup of tea or coffee. No mini fridge.

Review 2:A sea view room is a must, the location on La Concha beach is unforgettable.

Review 3:Small bathroom with a shower that was difficult to adjust to the right temperature but easily forgivable for those views.

Review 4:Walking into our room (52) my jaw dropped and I just said wow! The views from the two large fully opening windows were incredible. Extremely helpful staff and a lovely cafe on the ground floor for breakfast or drinks and pintxos very reasonably priced.

Review 5:Max TV volume permitted is low if window is open because it is very noisy outside. Our room was facing the back street. Elevator too small. Shower with low pressure and a very high step to enter. Bathroom mirror needs light. There is no mirror in the room. Restaurant had no table for us on a Saturday, I suppose a reservation is needed but that should be advised on weekend Hotel reservations.

Review 6:Room size and bed. Wifi

Review 7:Just a minor fact: there is no parking space in front of the hotel to take out the luggage.

Review 8:Great hotel with marvelous views over "la concha".

Review 9:The front desk staff were extremely helpful and pleasant when we encountered a problem that was entirely our fault. It was fixed without causing us to forfeit any sightseeing time.

Review 10:We liked our room, even though it was on the backside, but the rooms are a little dated. Internet was slow and hard to access.

Review 11:Great hotel, loved the location. The lobby area was nice. Staff great!

Review 12:Very noisy room, walls are paper thin you can hear everything going on in the next room! Floors were laminate and very noisey from room above! Screaming outside went on for hours until almost 5 am when the nightclub down the street closed!

Review 13:Great location to beach and Boardwalk

Review 14:No ability to iron for yourself. Would have preferred one bed rather than two singles pushed together.

Review 15:Beautiful location, very relaxing. Very clean room and comfortable bed.

Review 16:nil

Review 17:The view of the beach and walkway were stunning. The hotels location and room perfect with the charm of the antique lift from the turn of last century was great. Overall Perfect.

Review 18:Location is great, but be sure to book a sea view room. Very helpful, friendly staff. Good sized room and lovely "antique" lift. Well priced for standard of hotel and location.

Review 19:Extremely small rooms. Bathroom very meanly equipped & supplies not replenished for 2 night stay. Poor bed quality. High noise levels between rooms and extreme noise from road. Seaview rooms / premium(?) rooms necessary for a more comfortable stay.

Review 20:Well located.

Review 21:Bed could have been a bit higher off the floor. My husband has some physical difficulties and the height of the bed was a bit troubling.

Review 22:Accommodations were excellent. We had a wonderful view of the water and really enjoyed watching all the activity on the beach. The breakfast was wonderful and the coffee divine!

Review 23:Having an ocean front room with the hotel seems to be first come first serve, the staff was so accommodating to get us a perfect room, top floor and ocean front. They said we had made our reservation so far in advance they would do their best to get us OF. The breakfasts were great, location, views perfect. As others had said the elevator is unique. The staff was also very helpful in arranging a pick up at the train station.

Review 24:I repeatedly asked for a seaview and you gave us room 43...It was a dream for us and my wife was over joyed. The view and the rolling surf were unforgettable.

Review 25:If you had a room as I did which faced the street even though I was on the 5th floor the traffic noise is unbearable.Unable to change room for one overlooking he beach, nil available. There is no air conditioning although you are given to believe there is as the units are installed and the control was left by the bedside. Breakfast expensive and little choice.

Review 26:Very clean,large bedroom,modern roomy bathroom.

Review 27:We liked everything

Review 28:Location superb and staff helpful with recommendations of where to eat Pinxos in the old town, which were delicious. Gandarias for Pinxos and restaurant meson Alejandro.

Review 29:Parking was an additional 16.50 Euros per night, and we were required to remove our car from the parking garage by 2pm after noon check out. No flexibility for late check-out, holding luggage or car accommodation. Conch Beach is public & hotel doesn't offer resort beach items such as cabanas, chaises, towels, etc. Restaurant was full so we ate dinner elsewhere, & when we returned at midnight for a nightcap the bar was closed. Free wifi was inconsistent.

Review 30:Upon evening arrival & check-in, the woman at the registration desk was friendly, helpful and accommodating. Hotel location on the beach is convenient to other restaurants. Our two street-side rooms were small, but lovely & clean with comfy beds, large bathrooms & individually controlled a/c. Parking garage was close by to the hotel.

Review 31:No air conditioning

Review 32:Lovely fresh room. Excellent view, excellent location, very friendly staff. We didn't eat at the hotel but the food did look good

Review 33:Even though there were plenty of extra tables and chairs available, the bar staff would not set them up for outside service. They limited the number to 6 which were taken, even though there were more customers wanting to be outside. It was not late, so closing hour was not an issue. They just wouldn't do it.

Review 34:Perfect location, easy nearby parking.

Review 35:Our room on level 5 was very tired and the floor somewhat uneven!

Review 36:The location of the hotel was great and the view from a beach front room was wonderful. The bar at ground level had excellent views and was a lovely place for a glass of wine and some tapas with friendly staff.

Review 37:WiFi worked in lobby but not in room. never worked in the room for duration of the stay. Room cleaning was OK but at a different time every day.

Review 38:Location was not bad but limited adjacent services. Breakfast available in hotel.

Review 39:Nothing

Review 40:We had rooms towards the sea and it was very nice to see the sea,the beach and all people who went on the promenad. There was a nice room to seat in near the reception. And also an old nice funny elevator.

Review 41:Breakfast was 11 euros for cold cuts and bread.

Review 42:Go to sleep with the sounds of the ocean as your lullaby! Clean and efficiently organized rooms. You see and hear the ocean from the bed. Beautiful vista and great people watching from your balcony overlooking the ocean promenade. Relaxation at its best will folllow...

Review 43:Rooms are very small, less than 400 square feet. Little storage. Wish there were more rooms with water view. Needed to go to the bar for ice. We paid just a little more per night for a 1400 square foot apartment on Caspe in Barcelona.

Review 44:Location.

Review 45:The hotel has the bed location. But lack of competition makes itunnecessary for the management to look after the property. The rooms aretiny, the beds are uncomfortably firm and short * I am a 5'8 and myfeet were dangling!!! Also squicking floors/ceilings makes it hardto sleep if the above you people make even one step. Interestingly,I've met three more American couples- none of us got a beach viewroom. Coincidence???

Review 46:From the minute we arrived I knew we had made the right choice. This is a great hotel. We had an ocean view which was amazing. All the staff in the hotel, bar and restaurant were helpful, pleasant and knowledgeable. The restaurant was excellent, the food was exceptionally good and reasonably priced for the quality of food. The bar staff were welcoming and there was a good atmosphere. I would certainly recommend to friends.

Review 47:- Poor Breakfast - Noone helping your luggage - Noise problem from the upper floor and hallway. We woke up early, so it was fine but if you wanna sleep late, it can be a real problem.

Review 48:- Location is great. - Amazing sea view. - Old but fantastic elevator. - Parking - Nice rooms and balcony

Review 49:Expensive parking (18eur/night)

Review 50:Excellent quality of sheets and linens, very comfortable sleep, freshly renovated rooms, friendly staff, location right on the beach, antique elevator

Review 51:We had a lovely, comfortable room with a fabulous sea view. The staff at reception were courteous and pleasant and went out of their way to be helpful, while Leire in the restaurant patiently interpreted the menu to ensure we had the perfect evening meal.

Review 52:It doesn't seem right that you pay the same price for a room at the back with a view on appartment-buildings as for a room with a seaview. In the weekends the rooms at the back can be noisy because of noise from the street below. Facilities in the room rather basic.

Review 53:Reasonable price considering the location. Nice clean room. Friendly staff.

Review 54:Restaurant staff seemed a bit surly at times.

Review 55:The view from our balcony room made us change our plans and stay another day. Beautiful vintage elavator.

Review 56:The interior of the restaurant didn`t correspond to the atmosphere of an old hotel. The restaurant was gloomy, f.ex. there were no tablecloths.

Review 57:The atmosphere of an old hotel.

Review 58:Day time staff very friendly, nighttime make desk no so friendly! Not the end of the world.

Review 59:Great location, wonderful view. We did not eat at the hotel. No major complaints but we would look elsewhere if we returned to the area.

Review 60:A bit expensive for what you get. It's an old building and the rooms are not sound proofed. We paid for breakfast one morning and were quite disappointed by the quality of what was offered. Not worth the price. Parking is also expensive. In all these things added a considerable amount to our bill.

Review 61:Sea view, staff were friendly, old fashioned lift!

Review 62:Parking was a nightmare in underground garage that didn't have enough room & very selfish drivers who used up 2 spaces, but we understand parking is a problem in this very built up & crowded city, Barman when we got there at approx 4pm very rude, rest of staff excellent.

Review 63:friendly Staff apart from Barman, good breakfast, nice views over beach.

Review 64:The only negative was the male receptionist on duty when we arrived. His attitude was less than friendly and didn't change throughout our stay. All other staff were pleasant and helpful

Review 65:The view over the bay, the cleanliness, pleasant staff, value for money

Review 66:Perfectly located at the beach and near the old town center. I love the old elevator. friendly staff.. Not the first time, certainly not the last time I stayed here..

Review 67:From the first point of contact with the staff, we felt really good about being here. The room was certainly small, but very neat and clean, a beautiful powerful shower, and a big flat screen TV.. Wifi was adequate in the room but very strong in the bar / TV area in reception. Breakfast was also adequate and value for money. Also thanks so much to the guy in reception who went to great lengths and printed off a map for me to find the Farmer's Market on the Saturday morning We were able to leave our car in the car-park free all day while we went to the city markets after checking out which was also very much appreciated.

Review 68:There is a quaint lift with 2 sets of doors to open and close which is ok during the day but a little intrusive late at night or very early morning.

Review 69:Hotel nicely appointed and the staff were very efficient and helpful. Not far from centre of town and in the summer would be well placed for the beach.

Review 70:If you are looking for a modern high tech hotel this one is not for you ...but I cannot fault it.

Review 71:Hotel was in a fantastic location overlooking La Concha and easy walking distance to the old town and shopping areas. Well worth paying more for a seaview room which was comfortable, bright and airy. Old fashioned lift was enchanting!

Review 72:Despite requesting a no smoking room, our room and bedding stank of cigarettes. The access to the car park is external and not easy in bad weather. Rooms at the front of the building are on a noisy through road and the curtains did not provide a blackout.

Review 73:Attractive foyer and quaint lift.

Review 74:I'm just afraid due to it's size it might be hard to get rooms but I didn't have a problem although didn't get one facing the beach.

Review 75:I love this hotel, it's Old World, but right on the beach, lots of original art (apparently the family of the sculptor Chillida owns the hotel), clean, modern, great staff. I will definitely always stay here when I'm in Donostia as long as there are rooms available!

Review 76:Limited parking space, the cheapest rooms are very small and don't have a window, a bit expensie for what it is

Review 77:Situated directly on the beach of La Concha, friendly staff, nice comfortable rooms, great atmosphere

Review 78:The male restaurants staffs lack of understanding English made th appear to be surly The female staff were delightfully accommodating

Review 79:The ambiance nice paintings and artistic appointments -an elegance with the welcoming feel of a family business. Never degenerates onto boutique hotel over design Move people good food. You felt at ease

Review 80:when you have a single room it is unacceptable small; when you have larger rooms without sea view, the noise of the traffic in the streets require to sleep with tully cosed windows; with us, the staff wasn't friendliy nor helpful at all; there was no space in the parking and we had some stress with our lugagge; the elevator is far to slow and old and noisy

Review 81:when you have a room with sea view, all is fine.... view is breathtaking breakfast is very good

Review 82:The single rooms are as small as a "Zulu". You hardly can open the window because its beneath the TV, you sleep next to your luggage...not acceptabtable.

Review 83:Breakfast with view to the "Concha" of San Sebastian. Breakfast was great.

Review 84:Located a ten minute stroll from the action in the old town, and facing the cleanest beach I have ever seen, this hotel offers great value, with secure parking.

Review 85:No minibar at the rooms. It's an old hotel so you can hear wooden floorwork when someone at next room walks.

Review 86:Niza Hotel is located at the very middle of the la concha, best beach in San Sebastian. View is perfect and you can sleep while hearing wave sounds of the Atlantic Ocean. Surrounding is full of lovely cafes and places. Very close to the old city. Hotel itself is full of beautiful artworks and designed in a retro sense. I will stay here next time.

Review 87:we were hoping for a sea view and instead got an old and cramped top floor room with a lot of road/people noise all night. The hotel should have either firmly offered us a sea view room - or not - in which case we'd have booked elsewhere...

Review 88:the location

Review 89:that we had to leave......

Review 90:position (the best view over the best urban beach, the helpful lovely staff, the service, friendly atmosphere, food & drink, the vintage lift.........

Review 91:I love our quiet boutique hotel. We had an amazing city view and perfect for 2 girls on a euro trip. Free wifi, large bathroom, comfortable bed, and great service. We were on the beach and not too close to old town, but a great walk. I loved our place and can't wait to visit again. Book in advance. I did 8 months out and it was great!

Review 92:Car Park was hard to navigate...

Review 93:Loved my room even though it was a shoe box....The furnishings thoughout the hotel were lovely. We had walked 160km of the Camino prior our visit and our stay at Hotel NIza on the beach was a very welcomed rest time for us.

Review 94:Had an interesting experience booking this hotel for a couple. Perhaps it had something to do with my initial option settings but ended up having a good deal of effort to try and ensure that 2 people would be in the same room, including contacting both the hotel and Booking.com. Had some amusing (but well-meaning) email exchanges with the hotel about the room being able to be a "double double use room" (rather than a "double single use room") - ultimately, ended up with twin singles which wasn't quite what we were expecting but no matter. Also, while nothing to do with the hotel per se, the local youth seemed to congregate down below around 5am or earlier and we ended up having to close the balcony door and windows and lose the sea breeze.

Review 95:Good sized room and great bathroom - all very clean. The hotel is in an excellent location - and there is a good cafe close by, overlooking the beach - and the sea view with balcony is stunning! The room was well lit and using the old style lift was fun. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Review 96:Upon arrival we were not allowed to use the hotel bar tables either for lunch or cocktails- nor the outside tables--- staff was rude. My mother got sick and both days had a cup of tea- I was charged for 2 full breakfasts. We ended up going to a warm friendly Italian food restaurant fir 2 days where they cooked healthy meals for her. Disappointing and a WASTE of money

Review 97:I had stayed there in a room facing the water. Brought my 85 year old mother to celebrate her birthday. I was charged double- being 2 people thought it was fair and we were getting the same type if room- instead it was on the street side - no view and noisy. For 5 years I've recommended the hotel to friends, clients, family, and associates. NO MORE Option travelling with parent not available

Review 98:The beach sand stayed on our bathroom floor all week, a small complaint but annoying for bare feet. Wi fi was invariably very slow.

Review 99:If the beach is of interest this hotel is perfectly positioned for a swim or a stroll, or even a morning jog. The hotel has charm, though because of its age the rooms are generally quite small. The reception moved us to a larger room after one night as the original room was far too small for a week's stay.

Review 100:Wifi reception was bad in the room, and the double bed was just 2 single beds combined, which were not fixed in any way

Review 101:On the beach. Underground Parking is possible at a fee

Review 102:We asked for a room with an ocean view and high up, for no extra cost we received both! The room was large and the view was breathtaking, I would love to come back!

Review 103:Breakfast was cold both mornings, Not so keen on cold scrambled eggs, bacon and tomatoes, coffee only just luke warm as well.

Review 104:Loved the location on the beach, close to everything, good parking Staff in reception great, restaurant staff letting the side down really otherwise all round top spot

Review 105:The room hasn't been that modern as mentioned on the website, also there has been no air conditioning. The desadvantage of the room overlooking the beach has been people yelling all night, but of course the hotel can't help it.

Review 106:The hotel is located close to the beach with nice ocean view. The staff is very friendly and attentive.

Review 107:Quite expensive for 2 night stay.

Review 108:The hotel is in a great position for all San Sebastian's amenities. 50m from the beach and a five minute walk to town centre. Great for a short break

Review 109:No one welcomed me. Instead, they reprehended me for checking in late without even knowing that my flight had to land in Bilbao due to technical problems. The facilities are falling apart. Although I booked the room well in advance, they put me in the worst place: across from the noisy lift. I couldn't sleep well due to the noise caused by other guests' and roomkeepers' footsteps and pounding early in the morning. I don't know how a place like this can hold a license to operate. The worst hotel I've ever stayed in.

Review 110:View from the balcony was excellent. The paintings in the room and building are very elegant. The location is both close to the sea and city centre.

Review 111:Air con = open a window!!

Review 112:Sea view - only requested it on the off chance but was delighted to get it at no extra charge. It's a must. Paid extra for parking but it is secured and very accessible.

Review 113:Nothing...it was exactly what we wanted.

Review 114:Everything...staff was great, old world charm with modern amenities, located right in center of Concha beach and right on the beach. Parking was very handy. Felt immediately at home.

Review 115:Well appointed hotel right on the beach. We could keep our balcony door fully open and here the waves all night - little foot traffic or other noise. Staff very helpful and friendly.

Review 116:We had booked three rooms five months ago and asked that they be on the same floor. However, on arrival two were on the 2nd floor, and the other was on the 5th floor. This was terribly inconvenient when travelling with children and an elderly grandparent. Of course when I complained the hotel was full and nothing could be done to change it. If this was the case, then they should have let me know when I booked so that I could decide whether to stay there. Also, we paid the same amount of money for 2 rooms, and one had a sea view and was a spacious room, while the other was a cramped room facing the street. They should have different tariffs for the different rooms so that once again you can choose what you want to get. The elevator, while quaint, was small, and required multiple trips for a family of 5 with luggage.

Review 117:The only good things about this hotel were the location and the breakfast.

Review 118:Room was quite small with no view to beach or street. Close to lift and because it was on old-style lift requiring doors to be manually opened, I found it quite noisy at night.

Review 119:Location was great, right on the beach. Hotel reception area was lovely and a good place to sit and read on a wet day. Room and public areas were immaculate in terms of cleanliness. Building was well maintained.

Review 120:Traffic noise. I had asked for a quiet room but had difficulty sleeping due to busy street outside.

Review 121:Perfect location just across the promenade from the beach, 5 min walk to the old town. I didn't really check out the facilities as we spent our days on the beach

Review 122:Generally there was not anything we did not like except the front desk staff could have been friendlier (except for one person); and the woman running the breakfast service was just unpleasant.

Review 123:We loved the rooms, the view, easy access to the beach and walking to all parts of San Sebastian. We liked the breakfast, having the bar and the restaurant right downstairs. Also the fact that the hotel had parking was an added plus. Would stay here again any time we are in San Sebastian.

Review 124:Upon our arrival we were told that sea view rooms are reserved by returning customers year after year. It was the end of June. I booked 3 months in advance. If a sea view is important to you and you can afford it, go somewhere where you get what you pay for.

Review 125:The access to lower floors in the garage is a bit narrow.

Review 126:Great location, beautiful building, very nice staff: highly recommendable!

Review 127:Perfect location. Room with a magnificent sea view. Antique Hotel with beautiful furniture and a nostalgic elevator. Want to go again.

Review 128:Never like paying for parking

Review 129:We liked being able to get a room at the spur of the moment and the helpfulness of the staff.

Review 130:Only ten minutes walk to the old part of town, with a view of the beautiful beach.

Review 131:Great location, friendly staff, awesome city
