Reviews for Hotel Hacienda Puerta del Sol
Review 1:Bed was not very comfortable. Pillows sparse! Heating not working properly despite turning up to maximum, so cold during the night and in the bathroom. No extra pillows or blankets.
Review 2:It was ideal for the function we were attending, and not far from home. Staff were polite and helpful.
Review 3:Our room was due an upgrade as the bathroom was looking a bit tired but the bed was comfortable
Review 4:We stayed after a large dinner dance - 197 people. The staff coped very well with serving the food. The function room was decorated beautifully. There was a lovely choice for breakfast the following morning. Overall impressed
Review 5:Everything. Buffet dinner and breakfast was great and something for everyone. Fun night at the bar. Swimming pool lovely and big. Beautifully light up at night
Review 6:Food was a little cold on first night. Plates were always cold. Garlic mushrooms for breakfast not a good idea or at least serve some without garlic.
Review 7:Location of hotel, view from room and excellent weather for November
Review 8:We didn't think the evening buffet was very good especially for the money charged. Also the choice of piped music.
Review 9:Quiet and peaceful but it was November.
Review 10:The older man in the bar was very unfriendly and not very helpful. The food was awful and very expensive for a carvery so we only ate there for 1 evening. Good bus service just outside hotel gate between Mijas and Fuengirola.hotel itself is very lacking in the personal touch to it's long stay guests. We stayed 8 nights and the only friendly bar staff was Stephen. No entertainment any evening. Very much just a place just to wash and sleep. Bar closed at 11pm without exception. Has great potential but needs some imagination from owners and staff.
Review 11:Some of the staff were friendly. The hotel was clean.I'm struggling to find abother positive asset.
Review 12:Warning - we had a lot of other travellers complaining that there was nothing in the area - we know the area so this was expected however it is a very secluded spot. All staff were brilliant except for one bartender (seems to work the day shift) - however the young male receptionist on our last day was great at solving the issues we had with him!
Review 13:Fantastic getaway for a peaceful holiday - I travelled with my parents for our first holiday together in ten years and we loved every second - both rooms were beautiful, public areas clean and well maintained, breakfast fantastic!
Review 14:Cold food in the buffet, morning and evening, running out of hot water in the room, indifference of the staff, poor service. Not worth 4 stars. Not recommended and would not use again.
Review 15:Not Much
Review 16:Not well maintained in some areas. Took the kids to mini golf & tennis, poorly maintained & broken glass over the mini golf which was poor, especially for the kids. No mosi nets, one of the kids got lots of bites. Bed reasonable but bedspread had a hole that was sewn but very badly, worthy of the bin. Slightly disappointing overall. Reception staff could do with further customer relations training!
Review 17:First impression nice, nice bar area, lovely outdoor pool and good breakfast.
Review 18:breakfast is not good at all; a car is a must to get to Mijas town or the beaches, unless you don't mind depending on the public bus.
Review 19:large and comfortable rooms; good wifi and internet; good location and plenty of parking. The weather was too bad for us to use the pool, but it looked nice.
Review 20:Breakfast is not good at all. You need a car to get to Mijas town and the beaches. There is a public bus we didn't try but that seems to run quite frequently.
Review 21:Nice location with sea view and pool; comfortable and large rooms; good wifi and international TV channels; quiet
Review 22:considering that the majority of clients were of a mature age and mostly coach parties not having a porter to assist with luggage is bad. no facilities in the room for tea making, no fridge, no mattress covers on the bed and the food was very disappointing. Not child friendly.
Review 23:Staff were friendly and helpful
Review 24:extremely bad smell in the bath room towels and bed linen had holes in them towels had holes cleaning of rooms was not good for a four star hotel
Review 25:the cost was reasonable but the room was quiet as reqested also fridge in room was good
Review 26:The rooms are extremely shabby. No power points or mirrors. Bathroom shabby. Toiletries are the cheapest of the cheap and horrible. The worst thing is the food and dining area. Cheap breads and meats. Tinned fruit salad. Fresh fruit negligible or frozen so inedible. Could hardly be worse by any standards. The buffet in the evening was poor but no table service, dirty cafeteria style dining - get your own cutlery and dirty tables. This standard would hardly be acceptable at a motorway service caff. Truly horrible. This hotel looks good on the outside and the reception areas and could pass for four star. The rest is two star at most. The hotel situation is a couple of miles or so outside Mijas and on a busy road with no shops or in hotel shop so you cant get anything or even a cash point. You cant go for a stroll anywhere which is not conducive to a good stay. No international television stations.
Review 27:The pool is very big and the best thing about the hotel. Good views. Bed was comfortable although it looked torn and shabby.
Review 28:Did not have any bad experiences as such but I feel that the Hotel could make a better effort and a least have a little entertainment in the evenings after dinner as the Hotel is rather isolated and people who do not want to go out in the evening - there is nothing to do except sit around drinking/chatting. This should be considered definitely.
Review 29:Staff very good and friendly Food good Beds far too hard - came home with soar hips and a painful back Sun beds absolute rubbish - could not lie on them for any length of time most uncomfortable !
Review 30:Staffs attitude to help. The hotel rooms were tired. No kettle. No iron or ironing board in the hotel at all.
Review 31:The initial impact of the hotel sets out to be impressive
Review 32:On arrival change of room demanded and refused due capacity booking. Room had a bed, very limited furniture, unserviceable lighting, safe and A/C (water staining walls and floor) adjacent lift noises prevented adequate rest. Food at breakfast almost inedible. Staff uninterested, no service available on terrace, all drinks needed ordering at bar inside and carried personally outside. A final indignity, on departure lifts out of service and bags had to be carried down from top floor-no staff assistance! Checked out early but still charged for days not in residence despite recharging by Booking.com Many other guests equally disappointed and departed early. This review is by no means comprehensive, space limits the comments available. This hotel needs serious attention on upgrading, staff and management training plus a great deal of investment to bring standards to a minimum expected!
Review 33:Location
Review 34:As we are a young couple we spent the majority of our time out and about. The hotel was locked each night and the front gates shut. The receptionist was always wondering around in the back somewhere and it was hard to get in. The hotel is some distance from both Mijas and Fuenguirola and the busses stop at 10pm. The distance between the hotel and the two seperate places is unwalkable. The bar also shut at 12pm and the receptionist was not allowed to serve in the bar. Were were room only but some people seemed to be all inclusive. This may have been the reason the bar shut early. At this time of year the hotel seemed to attract the older couple. Overall this hotel is a beautiful Andalucian hotel.
Review 35:The hotel was lovely and the surroundings were very nice. The rooms were stunning and the beds were comfy. The staff were also very nice and friendly and helpful.
Review 36:Bathrooms and public toilets need work/ maintenance.
Review 37:Staff very nice and helpful. Loberto in bar /restaurant very helpful in particular. Entertainment good.
Review 38:Location, conscientiousness of staff, value for money. On b&b basis, breakfast choices were excellent. Probably more Spanish guests than other nationals. Some of Lamprey cycle team stayed one evening during Vuelta cycle race.
Review 39:Don't be fooled by the images of the nice lobby/reception area,as the rest of the building is in sharp contrast with it.Awfull smell of toilet on 1st floor all 7 days, ventilation from toilets into the corridor, cleaners trying to combat the smell with excessive odorizers, rooms small and dark and if you leave a crumb of chips it will be infested with ants, found ants in the bed, and got bitten as well. Weird curtains, unable to block properly the sun from waking you up in the morning, had to improvise a way to hold curtains together. Pool area not tidy, lots of sunbeds torn apart, however left around the pool, rattan furniture outside never cleaned, full with dirt and dust, bird droppigns on the outside coffe tables, never cleaned, of all chairs outside only 5-6 have soft cushions, the ones that you will find will be soiled and dirty. Breakfast steadily had no vegetables included, very odd. Second tennis court a major hazard as it has massive cracks and steel hanging loose, should have been closed, and kids still have access to it. Fell for the 4 Star rating, and booked - it is never 4 Star on an european rating scale. Don't want to insult anyone, but probably explains why only locals and guests from north Africa stay there. 4 Star is a very good rating, and this place advertised as being 4**** devalues any idea and confidence. Goes without saying not going there again, and would research more next time I choose a 4 star in Costa del Sol.
Review 40:Food was great, staff friendly
Review 41:NO hot water after 9:00 pm. We stayed for 7 nights and I am quite certain it is their routine to turn down the heating in the evenings when there are not "many" users. To prove it, we had hot water in just one night when a large group of cyclists were staying in the hotel. The worst part was that they lied everyday and promised to fix the hot water issue "tomorrow". Lying staff! The indoor pool and sauna are seasonal and were closed. The cleaning is haphazard to the extent that we had to ask for missing towels or paper toilet or soap every other day. Even in the last day we were asked to pay for the bar bills that were not ours. What a messy hotel with little comfort and value for money!
Review 42:Your child can enjoy the pool with many other children in the pool, if you are not concerned about strong chlorine odor.
Review 43:quality of room was very poor. Pillow had blood stains and some other dirt marks. We were due to stay two nights but ended up leaving after the first night. Very disappointed.
Review 44:The reception staff were very warm and welcoming as were the chamber maids.
Review 45:Only complaint is at times too few sunbeds especially beginning-mid August.
Review 46:Relaxed , friendly staff; staff very attentive; excellent range and quality of food; setting; welcoming atmosphere; safe environment; excellent value for money; great views. have been there now 4 times and staff remember us and give us a very warm welcome every time. Like home from home!
Review 47:1. Food, especially lunch and dinner buffet, was of very poor quality and poor value for money 2. Proximity of main road meant traffic noise was intrusive around parts of the pool area 3. Poor pool area cleanliness meant the area was littered with cigarette butts 4. Fridge in bedroom did not work 5. Safe in bedroom did not work 6. Bathroom and hallway stank of cigarette smoke every morning
Review 48:1. Most staff were friendly and helpful 2. Free WiFi in bedroom
Review 49:Evening meal selection poor. No "Convenience Shop" considering there were no local shops. Mijas or Fueringarola. Not enough shade around pool area.
Review 50:Friendly staff. Comfortable rooms. Ok restaurant for breakfast. Fair snack menu.
Review 51:I dont think it suited being all inclusive, though we only stayed as B & B which was fine. The room facilities are a little on the basic side.
Review 52:We already knew the hotel having stayed before.
Review 53:The bed was very comfy and new but the rest of the room was in serious need of a facelift and a few finishing touches. But on the whole a pleasant stay
Review 54:Lovely pool area and friendly, welcoming staff, we would stay again.
Review 55:2 mins from main roads, great value for an overnight stay (price included a good" eat as much as you like" breakfast) - great views out over the Med
Review 56:rooms clean but to be honest they were so dark and dingy i would be hard pushed to tell. shower top fell out on top my daughters head...saw funny side of it. top covers on beds on closer inspection were not so clean. got up to go toilet at 3am to find darkness...no electricity lights blown. got a crick in my neck from bad pillows and cardboard bed but for the price i shut up and put up
Review 57:i liked the 1920's feel not sure if it was deliberate had quick lunch int he restaurant food ok...tried breakfast ...breakfast was painful not worth the effort. reasonable priced for drinks, the poll area is great pool nippy but clean. overall clean hotel
Review 58:Thought the food menu very poor very limited choice and the bedsuncomfortable!! Plus tv in room all Spanish channels.
Review 59:I thought the hotel was excellent value the rooms very clean.
Review 60:Rooms need updating. Towels had their day. Clean though.
Review 61:Loved the views, typical Spanish food, laid back friendly staff, very attentive. Good value for money. Lots of chill out areas within the hotel.
Review 62:There is not enough staff and for 4* hotel there was no porter to help with luggage. Also, the bed linen has not been changed the whole week!
Review 63:We liked the grounds and the pool very much.
Review 64:Put carpet back in corridors to keep noise under control. Suitcases make one hell if a racket when they are dragged along laminate floorings!
Review 65:Breakfast has greatly improved over the years
Review 66:Our only negative comment would be that our mattress appeared to be surprisingly poor quality given how wonderful everything else was.
Review 67:This was a real bargain find. Located half way up hill between Mijas and Fuengriola, very nicely appointed, gives impression of real luxury. Staff ALL fantastic - all appeared genuinely keen to help, going out of way on couple of occasions. Wonderful pool.
Review 68:Internal swimming pool SO tiny & cold, took a maximum of 11 people!! Hardly worth advertising.
Review 69:Friendly staff and very quiet, relaxed atmosphere. Extra blankets provided when requested.
Review 70:Air con wasn't any use but it was only April so we just opened windows - imagine it might be too hot in summer.
Review 71:Free parking and easy to find right on the main road from fuengirola to mijas.
Review 72:The AC didn't seem to work and the room got really hot at night and made sleeping difficult. The wifi was slow, the signal was not strong and it was rather frustrating to use. The vending machines were broken and we couldn't get any bottles of water.
Review 73:The breakfast was tasty and comprehensive. They had everything from cereal and fruit to eggs and bacon. Lots of different pastries were slap available. We stayed two nights and the breakfast varied a little on the second day. We were busy seeing the sights so we did not get to enjoy the facilities much. They had a heated pool that I would have liked to use.
Review 74:Cannot be critical really. Minor omissions can be forgiven when there are so many positives.
Review 75:We were glad of temporary relief from a never ending Irish winter and the hotel and location provided that relief. Great location, so accessible by public transport from Malaga airport. Delightful to have breakfast on the terrace and enjoy the sun in the garden/poolside. Breakfast buffet offered great choice.
Review 76:The rooms are nice and clean although furniture a bit dated. Television old type model and only one English speaking Chanel.
Review 77:Bus stops just outside hotel gives easy access to both Mijas Puelo and Fuengirola. Bus fare only 1.55 euros. Restaurant nice and clean with good service and good choice of meals and salads. Small indoor pool and sauna handy if weather is cool.
Review 78:Food was terrible quality and the rooms were not very clean and not quite a plush as the pictures would have you believe.
Review 79:The terraces and the pool area
Review 80:The heated pool was out of service while we were there.
Review 81:Lovely staff, great view when weather was clear, decent breakfast, very clean and very comfortable rooms. Good wifi connection.
Review 82:This Hacienda was I'm sure at the origin high class: marble floor, ivory elephant decoration, large pool, sauna, tennis court, good view on the sea. Staff is very nice & helpful. Good Breakfeast buffet included. All that for 50€ for 2 adults, a very nice deal for the Marbella area. Only downside, you need a car because 20-30 minutes from Malaga airport, but definitely worth it. Finally, good spot between Malaga and Marbella. Recommended.
Review 83:Poor wifi in rooms, Could not connect. Neglected play/sports area. (This may be due to being low season)
Review 84:Quality and choice of food. Clean and very spacious rooms. Very friendly staff. Large car park.
Review 85:Low season... The bedroom was cold although staff did provide extra blankets on request Lighting a bit dim in room
Review 86:Staff extremely helpful responded immediately to every request. Views from hotel magnificent Breakfast very good value for money
Review 87:There was no entertainment organised , in the week it would have been nice to have some musicians which would have added to the atmosphere and get guests socialising
Review 88:Really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. Staff very friendly and helpful. Food good and facilities great ,
Review 89:Lack of tea coffee machine in room. Absolutely no view from window - looking out at trees very close to window.
Review 90:Landscaping of grounds. 2 storey building with Moroccan design
Review 91:The bar in the hotel closed at around midnight and there wasn't anywhere to carry on drinking after this time or even have a coffee.
Review 92:Atmosphere - quiet Cleanliness - room and other areas Friendly (female) reception staff Facilities - large pool, Traditional Entertainment (Flamenco) Nice comfy bar and lounge area. Views
Review 93:Leaving!
Review 94:This hotel is like an oasis. It is situated on the main road up to Mijas and although you can occasionally hear the occasional truck drive past, it is very quiet. The pool is fabulous and the whole hotel looks traditional Spanish, but with a touch of comfortable luxury. The staff are very helpful and friendly too. A good selection of food at breakfast and the snack menu is good if you prefer to stay put during the day. Best thing is how pretty the terrace and pool area looks at dusk/night time.
Review 95:For English tourists--the bar staff(never enough of them) are not attentive, they randomly choose who to serve and can be irritating when you first arrive(but you get used to the pace etc!) Influx of coach parties every day.
Review 96:Terraces and pool areas
Review 97:An old Colonial feel to the hotel married with modern day facilities. Charming social rooms, wonderful views to the sea and fabulous swimming pool! Food was excellent with wide choice. Staff first class. We will return.
Review 98:The food was good but a little repetitive at times. Bath was very slippery when having a shower. Bedside light bulb not replaced when reported on several occasions.
Review 99:Rooms were a good size. Beds comfortable and excellent air conditioning. It was very hot the first week of September and rooms were nice and cool. The staff were very friendly
Review 100:Cleaning of the rooms - a disaster. The rooms were not vacuumed properly, at my arrivel I found hair on the floor and in the bathtub. Definitely cleaning was not at all done properly and not only in the rooms but on the hallways as well. The window handle was broken. Sometimes plates were not perfectly clean. Definitely things that should not happen in a 4 stars hotel. Those 4 stars - very questionable.
Review 101:Friendly staff, very helpful, good food with a variety of choises, nice views towards the coast and to the Mijas Pueblo. A nice place to spend a couple of days though there are some things that I can comment upon.
Review 102:There was a serious lack of sunbeds. If you didn't secure one by 7.30am chances were you wouldn't get one at all. There is plenty of space for the hotel to add lots more though. Most days people ended up on a towel on the poolside grass. The food wasn't the best. The breakfast is disappointing and the lunch menu available to non-all inclusive guests is poor. You can only do all inclusive if you're staying a minimum of 4 days.
Review 103:The staff were excellent, very polite and informative. The hotel grounds are gorgeous and tranquil even though it's a family orientated hotel which was a plus for us as this was our first short break abroad leaving our three babies at home. The rooms are spacious and modern and the bed is very comfortable.Value for money is good even if you're not on an all inclusive package.
Review 104:Breakfast very greasy Hotel a little shabby in areas( needs investment)
Review 105:Room basic but comfortable Competetive price Wifi excellent 10 min drive to Mijas
Review 106:The buffet selection was the worst we have ever experienced for an all inclusive hotel. Despite me advising the hotel in advance that we had a baby we had to ask to be moved at 22.30 as the room we were given was right next to the evening entertainment which was as issue for our 11 month old daughter. The hotel did compensate us for the inconvenience when we checked out though. On the basis that there are no bars or restaurants that you can go to on foot this hotel needs to up it's game to guarantee return visits!
Review 107:The pool area was nice enough and the rooms were OK although very dark as every one of them had plants growing up the windows.
Review 108:The food served for all inclusive guests was very very poor. I had coffee and toast for 6 days at breakfast and I had to go out every evening for dinner with the nearest places an 8 euro taxi ride away. It was a real shame. I unfortunately cannot recommend a stay here due to the additional travel and dining out costs incurred due to the poor quality of food available at the hotel.
Review 109:I liked the style and layout of the hotel. I had requested a room on an upper floor with a pool view which I did get on day 2. The staff were largely friendly and helpful. The pool area is nice too.
Review 110:The staff were excellent. Friendly and very helpful, always there to assist in any small detail. The location, cleanliness and food were also excellent. Will return (with the kids).
Review 111:staff brill [nothing was a trouble ] facilities very good location top notch rooms pretty good [my wife had trouble with hotels hair dryer .it packed in every 45 seconds] food ace plenty and varied [quite a bit of pork massage very good
Review 112:Irritating to have sun beds reserved with towels by guests first thing in the morning and then not used at all during the day.
Review 113:This is a very comfortable, friendly and relaxing hotel. Beautiful grounds and lovely pool with great views in all directions. The reception staff are extremely helpful and accommodating. Rooms are clean with good air con.
Review 114:Some aspects of the decor in room and corridors were a little tired. For me the bed was far too firm.
Review 115:The service from all the staff was 5*. They were all happy, friendly and exceeded my expectations. The location was beautiful and public transport service is excellent for exploring the wider area.
Review 116:no balconies, hadn't realised at time of booking that there weren't any. beds were very hard, when we stayed there last time the beds were much more comfortable.
Review 117:hotel clean, staff friendly, breakfast good
Review 118:The food choice was the same every night with the meat and fish always overcooked and dry. The hotel rooms were very clean but furnishings were tired and dated. The background music was terrible, listening to a Johnny Mathis Christmas song in the heat of the summer wasn't ideal
Review 119:Lovely terrace with views of the mountains and sea. Friendly staff.
Review 120:Used by a number over night tour groups from China who photograph you frequently but politely!
Review 121:Unbelievably clean and immaculately maintained. A real Spanish hotel - gardens and vista view lovely. Half board bargain price. Great pool manned by a lifeguard plenty of sun beds
Review 122:Room ok. Breakfast very good. Sun terrace excellent situation. Great view from bedroom.
Review 123:Helpful staff
Review 124:Didn't think the breakfast was very good.
Review 125:Value for money and a clean pleasant hotel
Review 126:Rooms are a little bit tatty around the edges but nothing major.
Review 127:Nice hotel in between Mijas and Fuengirola. Very good value in December.
Review 128:staff very welcoming & helpful. Location good, especially for airport
Review 129:Only gripe-parking (disabled in the main) could be better
Review 130:Value for money and good service
Review 131:Banqueting facilities. Friendly staff. General ambiance.
Review 132:Location. Rooms spacious and very clean. Purpose of our visit met ten out of ten
Review 133:poor lighting in room(not enough).one bedside light not working
Review 134:Did not get the upgrade we were expecting.
Review 135:Lovely position away from the crowds but near enough to get there when wanted.
The Fine Print
Please note that the indoor pool is only heated in winter months.
