Reviews for Hotel Kaoba

Review 1:Too many mosquitoes if staying in a bungalow on ground floor. Also, the floor was still 'sandy' from previous occupiers.

Review 2:Great pool and style of bungalows.

Review 3:There was a small issue with the shower, we could not turn it off completely which was a bit disturbing. Also the hot water was not working, so we had to take cold showers. We stayed in the cheapest option (bungalow with fan), perhaps the more expensive rooms are better. The fan did not work very well, it was hotter in the room than outside. A/C is probably preferable.

Review 4:The location is convenient at the main street in central Cabarete. It is easy to walk to beach or take a bus or taxi from outside the hotel. If you have a car the hotel has a few parking lanes of their own just outside the reception. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing. The rooms have decent standard and wifi working better than in other places (some other hotels during our stay in Dominican only had wifi for example in the reception, but Hotel Kaoba had several routers: on for the bungalows, on for the terrace, another one for the bar etc. so you had good wifi access wherever you were)

Review 5:lots of mosquitos & other insects our 1st night - but changed rooms & the 2nd night had no troubles at all!

Review 6:Nice quiet property with beautiful trees and mature gardens, lovely pool, great airflow and natural light in the cabanas, excellent prices

Review 7:Anti mosquito nets demaged. Window closing demaged. Wardrobe doors can't be closed. No hot water. No tea at the bar

Review 8:Location near by the beach. Swimming pool

Review 9:I guess the place needs some fixing, the pool was pretty clean but looked so old dat i always prefer to go to the beach; the bar seemed a bit empty but maybe because its low season

Review 10:I was a bit scared with some reviews before ibooked in kaoba but i have to say i dont have nothing bad to say about this place; i decided to stay here because of the location and of course the price. I came in the low season so perhaps i waslucky because the staff had enough time to take care of everything; i stayed in a bungalow with my private bathroom, quiet place and clean, nothing fancy but more than enough for the price i paid; everymorning a laidy came to clean and sort out my room like my mom used to do so everynight when i got bak was like coming for the first time. The place is very secured , 3 min walking from the center of the town; the staff is frindly you can ask anything and helps if u speak a bit of spanish; if u traveling alone and u want to bring some guest over night they allowe that just make sure if u can trust the person u bringuing ;). So i had a good time and if im back to cabarete i ll probably stay here again.

Review 11:I live in the DR so my expectations of hotels are pretty low, it doesn't take much to impress me. Basically if there is hot water and air conditioning I'm fine. I stayed at the hotel because my own house had been out of water. I get to Kaoba, spend time at the beach right across the street and come back to no water! From 7-midnight there was no water, I couldn't shower or anything. I had also been looking forward to going to the pool but it was so dirty I didnt go in. If they cleaned the grounds of the hotel and updated old and broken parts it wouldn't be so bad. It felt like a lack of care.

Review 12:The staff was very friendly at the front desk! The air conditioner worked well (although they charged me an extra $7 a day to use it) and it was very quiet at night which was nice.

Review 13:I wish they cleaned up the pathways to the rooms a bit more and that they swept/moped the room. Room smelled damp.

Review 14:Close to the beach and restaurants

Review 15:The hotel used to be really nice a few years ago. We stayed there a lot of times, because the locations is really great. Every time we went there it was getting worse. The problem is that they don't take care about the hotel and it would really need a renovation but even more important, a very well cleaning. The rooms are nice but very very dirty. We found a lot of cockroaches in our room. The floor was dirty, in the shower there was a lot of hair when we arrived and among the kitchen facilities were spiders and cobwebs...unusable....We always liked the place a few years ago because it was good value for the money and has a great location, but unfortunately for us it's impossible now to stay there again because it's so dirty there.

Review 16:The wifi was working well - in the room and in the pool area. The staff was friendly. The room was quite spacious. Location is great.

Review 17:Wifi was overloaded, pool-side music was through internet as well. Do not expect to be able to do much more than check emails/social media. Rooms also had underpowered ceiling fans and a/c, but it was liveable.

Review 18:Location was good, price was right.

Review 19:We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Kaoba, not a very romantic place, but it was good value location-wise and the staff was very friendly. The thing we did not like was the lack of privacy, which was what we were looking for, as we were opposite the pool and there was no where inside the property where one could escape a bit.

Review 20:Bungalow room smelt strongly of mould, though none was visible. No fly screens in bathroom meant it was swarming with mosquitos. Very dim lighting in room, no power sockets near the bed. 20% sales tax was not included in the price quoted on booking.com. An additional fee was charged for air conditioning. Some guests may not like the many tiny snakes living around the rooms. Charging a fee per extra guest is ridiculous in a hotel.

Review 21:Pool is nice and the location is good. Room was a decent size. Dan Fan above bed was good. Reasonable price for the area.

Review 22:This stay was one of the worst experiences I've made so far. We had to change the appartment due to some booking chaos they had. That wouldn't have been any problem, but the appartment they gave us instead was dirty and after a rough storm the roof was kind of destroyed and kept on making noise the whole night. The day they told us we were moving into the appartment we had booked originally, they made us wait until 2 pm and pack our things, just to find out that we weren't moving before next day. We lost two mornings we could have spent at the beach or elsewhere and needed to pack and unpack all our stuff. We wanted to talk to the owner several times, but every time we asked for him at the reception, he wasn't available. Resulting from this, we couldn't talk to him until our last night and when we then told him all the things we weren't satisfied with, he got really angry and complained that we only wanted to get a reduce for our bill, what really wasn't true. We just wanted to let him know how disappointed we were about everything. The wifi does work from time to time, but is really slow. The so called "kitchen" is not really usefull - don't expect to be able to cook anything there! They didn't provide any sharp knives, so no vegetable or meat cutting was possible, the gas wasn't connected to the oven. We didn't even have enough plates (2 plates in an appartment for 4 people..) Towels weren't changed although they were obviously dirty and we needed to throw them on the floor to be sure they got changed. We're really easy travellers and weren't looking for any luxury hotel, so we were aware that this hotel wasn't going to be the best in town, but what we experienced there just ruined our stay. Really not recommendable.

Review 23:The only good thing I can say about this stay is the place... It's close to everything, restaurants, bars, beach, bank...

Review 24:our bungalow was very basic and it didn't smell very fresh. it mostly smelled strongly of chlorine. the floor didn't feel clean. the shower was really bad & we had to get someone to fix it. even then, the water was spraying everywhere and it took a while to warm up. It was, however, quite affordable, so you get what you pay for.

Review 25:the location was excellent. you're in the middle of all the action and very close to the beach.

Review 26:The strong dog smell from the feces of all the many stray dogs sheltered in the fenced enclosure immediately behind our room permeated this whole compound.and the rampant ants are obviously a persistent problem.

Review 27:Location is convient to downtown Cabarete and the beach.

Review 28:My air conditioner wasn't working properly.

Review 29:The prince-quality relation is extraordinary. The location is even greater. The kitchen coordinator was so helpful and nice, five starts to her service.

Review 30:Ok where to start.. We ordered a room with a/c which is extra 7$ per day. Checked in, turned the ac on and it was just blowing air.. Not cooling. After a few times we asked someone to check the AC, they decided to transfer us to another room.. Promised that in that room it works perfectly. Surprise surprise.. Same situation goes back again. We Informed about this to the hotel, they said they won't charge us for the a/c which is fair. The remote for the ac never worked.. We never received remote for the tv although we asked several times .no one really cared.. There were ants on the bed.. On our last day, water starts dripping from the a/c.. Our bathroom looked like a big puddle.. We just waited to get out of there

Review 31:Although it located on the ,main very noisy road The rooms are very quiet. Great location, 2 min walk to the beach The wifi in the room is good

Review 32:Had no complaints in what was probably one of the hotels busiest times.

Review 33:Had a great room right at the back of the hotel looking out over marshland - very quiet. Very helpful and pleasant receptionist.

Review 34:Defective faucet. I only realized this after reception was closed.

Review 35:Relatively good value for money Breakfast available in cafeteria. Size of room is decent. Clean. Airconditioning.

Review 36:This is my second stay at this hotel. The price was right for the value. Staff was always excellent and I have no major complaints. We'll be back for sure. Thank you!

Review 37:It is not on the beach, but what do you expect for such little money....a great value and location!

Review 38:very secure, tremendous location, not on the beach, but right across the road from the beach and easy access, good inexpensive restaurant with great breakfast overlooking the pool or street, pharmacy adjacent was handy, great pool, quiet, & secure

Review 39:The only negative points I have to mention are the WiFi signal was weak, the bed was a little hard, the rooms need a little updating, thelighting in the rooms is poor, and there's no bathtub. Those are allminor when you think of all of the positives and the price. This placeis just right.

Review 40:All of the staff was absolutely excellent. I loved staying here. We wereat Kaoba for 3 nights before joining another couple in a beach condo forthe remainder of our stay. I'm generally a little picky when itcomes to hotels however I'm not unreasonable. For $37 U.S. total pernight for a couple after taxes and air conditioning fees, the price wasjust right. We stayed in a bungalow and I highly recommend it forcouples. There's no tv, but being that we were in paradise with somuch to see and do we really didn't care. There's a pool, WiFi,and a refrigerator in the room. It's very clean and comfortable andthe location was perfect for walking through town, restaurants, andgoing to the beach. We will definitely be back.

Review 41:Nothing.

Review 42:The location is great. The bungalows are nice for the price. Many eating options around and 5 mins walk to the beach. Jacuzzi and pool are clean.

Review 43:service and the staff were all very friendly

Review 44:featured a moldy towel and towel with a leftover pube. no hot water. unfriendly staff. terrible.

Review 45:shower, parking

Review 46:location near beach and food

Review 47:the pool, the staff, very kind. location

Review 48:the kitchen units need renovation and are way in back....isolated the units facing street are much better and clean......less stairs also

Review 49:Difficult access if you have a stroller or wheelchair. We didn't have hot water.

Review 50:The location is great.

Review 51:pool looks so dirty

Review 52:In the room there was a cockroach and my partner was really scare and upset about it.

Review 53:Free wifi and the location are awesome!

Review 54:The ventilator was not very good. The pool needs to be cleaned.

Review 55:Beach, restaurants are near the hotel

Review 56:Great location, kind staff, easy accommodation, awesome price.

Review 57:The owner isn't welcoming, and everything the show on line isn't true.

Review 58:The location isn't bad

Review 59:Wi Fi was iffey

Review 60:Chillnes noo noisee theree

Review 61:Teh location, the price.

Review 62:No problems!

Review 63:Easy to check in a large group; nice to have fridge/kitchen; pool/garden area was lovely.

Review 64:very friendly staff

Review 65:Leaving

Review 66:Would absolutely recommend. Jennifer and the rest of the staff are amazing. very safe. beautiful pool, and just a quick walk from the beach.

Review 67:Our room faced the street which meant little in the way of sleep before 3am.

Review 68:The themed rooms were really unique and stylish and the bed was fabulous.

Review 69:The location was central to the town of Cabarete and for the price, it was an excellent value.

Review 70:The rooms need more light inside, is a such dark room, and a more powerfull fun ( air con is an opcional)

Review 71:Location, good price

Review 72:hotel is dirty. Personal is unfriendly. Rooms were with terrible smoke odor. Air conditioning was not working.

Review 73:$10 for EACH guest that comes to visit you!

Review 74:Cant beat the price

Review 75:This place is terrible. All the room/bungalows are Mosquito infested. You Pay 170 USD to be tortured and have no sleep for 7 nights. The staff are mostly teenagers, and have no senior leadership. The fan is dysfunctional and the small fridge seems like it hasn't been changed in decades. Very Noisy at night till 3 AM.

Review 76:The beach, tiendas, and bars were near the hotel.

Review 77:At times the staff didn't know how to help with our needs, restaurant a little expensive and limited, bring bug spray for themosquitoes

Review 78:If you're just looking to travel and could care less about bigresorts and paying thousands of dollars for a hotel room, this is theplace for you. The location is absolutely perfect, right across from thebeach and in the heart of Cabarete. Everything you need is within a 5 or10 minute walk, and you can get to Sosua and Puerto Plata in a shortamount of time for about $2 a person. There is so much to do inCabarete, and this hotel is perfect for young couples and people whojust want to be there together. The rooms are not by any means luxuriousand the facilities are limited, but for the price you are payingit's a great place to be. The staff is very accommodating when theycan help you. The location is really the best part of this hotel, plusthe owner's dogs that run around playing together on the property :)

Review 79:one staff member was very rude to our friend...the pool wasn't clean . they never fixed the light in the bathroom

Review 80:most of the staff were very pleasant and friendly..the price was great..great location

Review 81:I booked it for a certain price in booking and when I arrived, extra charges. Beautiful hotel, needs to be cleaned more often,

Review 82:The location was great and the pool pretty nice.

Review 83:The experience was very awful. Once we got there first thing we noticed was that what was shown in the pictures was not actually what you got. The room smelled horrible and did not seem clean. The hotel in general seems abandoned and the pool disgusting. The bungalow room we booked was so horrible and the A/C (which we had to pay extra for) did not work, so we had to ask for another room, for which we had to pay 40 extra bucks, the new room was a bit better but we found a croach walking in the bathroom. Very bad experience. This was my first time using booking.com, I hope you take better care of hotels like this so people can trust more the webpage. I really liked the page and the deals but am now considerings how trust worth are the reviews in your page actually.

Review 84:The location is not that bad.

Review 85:Mosquitoes are a big problem, swarms of them in the bungalows (fan only) around the pool both day and night. Maybe should offer coils, nets, or something. Fans in budget bungalows are not very strong.

Review 86:Great location across the main costal road from Puerto Plata to Rio San Juan. Easy walking distance to main beach (moto taxi or longer walk to kite beach) and large super market is about 5 min walk away. The pool is small but nice and lots of chairs and tables to lounge next to pool. Cabarete Divers dive shop is located in the hotel and they use the pool for dive course. Wi-Fi around the pool (in budget bungalows) was good and relatively fast. Room s also have small fridge for water, beer, snacks, etc.

Review 87:Not that I didn't like it, the problem is that much money needs to be added to this property to make day to day improvements.. When it rains the walkways can be extremely slippery.

Review 88:It was in the town center but was exceptionally quiet. Staff were nice and helpful.

Review 89:They didn't honor the price from booking.com, the rooms were old and felt dirty. Little privacy due to people passing by low windows at all times of the day.

Review 90:landscape was nice, close to beach

Review 91:Everything was a messs, we booked 3 rooms ans received other types of rooms for the same price obviously. Nothing was working properly in the room, no tv, no fridge, no A/C, no water pressure and there was a "lake"in the middle of the room, because there was water leaking from the ceiling. All the walls were wer and the smell in the room was horrifying. The staff was totally uncooperative about it.

Review 92:We were unable to lock the windows in the first room provided. No problem swapping. Typical Dom Rep resort, with pushy shop owners, noisy motorbike taxis.

Review 93:The pool area was nice. Although it could get quite noisy. The room was clean and far enough away from the road that we didn't have to listen to traffic noise.

Review 94:On main roadway in front so traffic noise if you are near front entrance. When at cafe in front, sometimes vendors come around asking you to buy even if you are busy. Only few times. No off street parking if you bring a car. All else great.

Review 95:Eventhough hotel not right on beach, it easy 5 minute walk to beach access and plenty of cafés. Very nice pretty courtyard and pool area relaxing. Nice cafe/cantina part of hotel. Friendly helpful staff.

Review 96:It was no TV, no fridge, and some dogs noise sometime in the back alley

Review 97:The hotel is right in Cabarete. You walk to the beach, kite across the street; many restaurant, night life. There is a very nice pool and the Air conditioned was new and very silent. You also can have visitors.

Review 98:Place is very nice, but could use alot of minor repairs to make it even better.

Review 99:Loved the trees, plants, and lots of shade. The location is perfect. Cabarete is small town on the beach, so why waste money on fancy hotel's when you can enjoy your stay at Kaoba and save money.

Review 100:Almost never had hot water. Internet was weak and off a couple times. Very basic only.

Review 101:Very inexpensive. Own rooms. Air conditioning option for $5. Internet. Only $10 to bring a guest in.

Review 102:Having all my goods tarnished with cocaine!! ( probably the last roomguests) Nightmare on my uk return..

Review 103:Relaxed atmosphere, no annoyance by anybody, Close to centre, wifi.

Review 104:The room had a strange smell the whole time we were there. We had a problem with our safe, could't get things (and money) out in the evening because the battery died. It was fixed in the morning.

Review 105:Good location.

Review 106:They were supposed to accept card payment, however when we were about topay they came with the same story as every other place I Cabarete(basically all restaurants, bars and hotels) "that their Verifonedidn´t work". Instead they wanted cash payment or a direct paymentto the swiss owners personal account (with no reciept). But they stillcharge you the taxes and so on... This is not the only place that doesthis..most of the owners (foreign) want cash, cause it´s a way of notpaying taxes to the country. Moreover, the rooms were smelly (the ownerhad four smelly, big dogs peeing and pooing in a terrasse right beneathour rooms) One of the doors were full of mould, the ac didnt workcorrectly and everything in and around the rooms were really worn downand not very nice at all! I/we love Cabarete beach as such butapparantly you need a lot of cash money since all the places have"problems" when it comes to card payment. I wouldnt recommendthis particular hotel to anyone!!

Review 107:It was close to the beach..

Review 108:Don't expect to meet many backpacker, it is not a hostel but a small hotel. Thus it lacks a bit of atmosphere.

Review 109:Great location in the center of Cabarete. Pool is alright and overall value is good too for the DR.

Review 110:Slow wifi Prostitutes hanging around outside

Review 111:Helpful staff Effective air conditioning comfortable bed daily cleaning

Review 112:Nice and clean. Super good value close to the beach and restaurants.

Review 113:Not long enough trip

Review 114:Complete peace and quiet if required.

Review 115:Absolutely recommend this place. Its great value, clean, uber convenient and the staff are a complete pleasure. Will definitely stay again

Review 116:I do not anything I do not like

Review 117:Tough to get rid of mosquitoes.

Review 118:Good location. The facilities are just what you need, descent bed, clean shower.

Review 119:extremely loud and annoying religious revival meeting all day sunday next door.

Review 120:good location, nice pool, very friendly staff, great price

Review 121:Good value and very nice staff people

Review 122:Too many rescue dogs on premises.

Review 123:Easy to book and location is close to beach, shopping and restaurants.

Review 124:nice pool good reception quiet

Review 125:Location was great. Everything is walking distance.

Review 126:No tv would have to pay extra for it

Review 127:location,across street to beach, pool was clean, iiiits an older property but kept up,great breakfast

Review 128:location
