Reviews for Pensión Ametzagaña
Review 1:location - around 5 km away from the city center; the smell in the room as of someone would have smeked there; very small rooms with thin walls
Review 2:Unexpactedly good breakfast with tasty coffee
Review 3:Wifi was a bit dodgy, kept dropping out. If you don't have a car you have to get a taxi to the city, which is only 7-8 pounds, but it adds up. Probably wouldn't recommend staying here without a car
Review 4:The view from the villas was very pretty. The shower had good pressure.
Review 5:Although it had a restaurant there was no provision for an evening meal just bar food?.. shame really!
Review 6:Superb location with magnificent views !! staff very welcoming and attentive.. comfy bed..
Review 7:Grubby room, noisy, broken toilet, bedside table sloped down when you put a drink on and resulted in glass all over the bed and floor, poor quality blankets and bedspread were old.
Review 8:Nothing
Review 9:Reserved single rooms for our older sons were unavailable. They had to share a double - and the bath was in the bedroom??
Review 10:We arrived in San Sebastian fiesta week.
Review 11:Rooms are very small considering what you pay for them. One felt like a prison cell with the bars in front of the windows. The other room smelled like a sewer but was exchanged for another one without too much hassle.
Review 12:The complex looks nice and dinner was very good.
Review 13:Very expensive for what was on offer, time of year I guess. Paper thin walls, interesting snoring pattern from next door guest, very irritating. Room smelt of drains & small. Tiny bathroom, unless your arms are 12" long you'll have a problem. Lack of plates & cutlery at Breakfast due to deluge of other guests.
Review 14:Quiet Location, best take a Taxi to San Sebastián to avoid expensive parking charges.
Review 15:The only little negatives thinks was the insulation beetween the rooms, we can heard everything from upstairs , people showering, toilet flushing down a bit noise middle of night.
Review 16:We only stayed for a night, but it was goof, Frendly staff, beautyfull area, good food.
Review 18:A nice place for a cheap price. It was easy to relax there and the food was really cheap!(compared to Finnish prices) It was a bit too long from the city but you were able to walk in under 1 hour.
Review 19:The parking for people with mobility problems was inadequate. There are stairs everywhere you look. No lifts and the room we were given was accessed from a basement corridor with a ground level door to the outside. It was over 50 metres from the reception and other hotel facilities.
Review 20:Staff tried to help but the room we were given while on the ground floor was a long way from reception etc. Pleasant location when we gound it, Tom Tom's problem not yours!
Review 21:Not an easy place to get to, little bit too far out of town but ideal as as a stopover as very close to the motorways. Hall and stairways very noisy and echoey especially with the hours spaniards keep!
Review 22:Very comfy, newish bed, very clean but the bathroom is Very compact! Very pleasant and friendly staff who spoke perfect English. Cheap beer at the bar and free parking which is important to us.
Review 23:Check-in took ages - they asked us a lot of things for only one night stay: passeport or ID for each single guest, payment at arrival, number of immatriculation for each cars.... Really long process. Wifi didn t work.
Review 24:The breakfast is nice
Review 25:- A bit hard to get to, so a taxi is needed. But even to include the taxi fee it is still cheaper than living in town. - Bathroom is a bit small. - It was a shame when we got there the restaurant was closed, otherwise it was one of the top recommendations in the booklet we got. The food was still good though.
Review 26:- Very good value for the money. - Green land surrounding the hotel, with sheep (quite far and well kept, so it wouldn't interrupt your stay at all) to give you a relaxing countryside view. - Very friendly staff. Especially the waitress in the dining hall explained nearly all the dishes to us, and made really good suggestions.
Review 27:The drive to the city parking lots were a challenge the first couple of times, even with my Garmin Navigator. I was finally able to easily navigate through all the round-abouts on the third day.
Review 28:Country setting. Great staff. The breakfast and dinner food was good and what we needed to recharge ourselves. It was also offered at a reasonable price
Review 29:It was a good 5 minutes drive to the nearest train station not the walk as on the website. on a very steep hill. no disabled access
Review 30:able to make changes to accommodate disability. provided gluten free bread at breakfast
Review 31:The situation was extremely difficult to find even using a GPS. From the main road network, the turn-off leading to the premises was not easy to identify as a road leading to the hotel.
Review 32:We were advised about a wedding in the complex (noise, noise, noise) just the day before arrival, when room was booked a month before. Breakfast impossible. Staff is not enough for the complex capacity.
Review 33:Room and bath clean and addequate. Problems with wifi.
Review 34:Sepperate villa style buidings on side of a steep hill with lots of steps contain the rooms. Very noisey doors banging all night. Ear plugs are a must. TV in room is flat against wall over 2 meters up and does not tilt so cannot be viewed when in bed .Locked windows when we went out but staff after cleaning left open ' Shutters showed sign of previous break in .Not aways hot water available .
Review 35:It has wi fi . Its convenient for touring the area
Review 36:There were ton of bugs (dead and alive) in my bed. There were flies in my room. The staff was really rude. Also, you need to get a taxi (15 euro) to get to the San Sebastián unless you walk two miles to the train station. San Sebastián is beautiful (although I would suggest going in the off season because it gets crowded.)
Review 37:Nothing.
Review 38:Room basic and small. No restaurant - which we would have used. Very thin walls, could hear the person in room next door on his phone, People coming in late, banging doors and moving furniture. Needs a bit of updating and tlc and could be a nicer place.
Review 39:Really liked to position of the hotel as we didn't have the problem of trying to park in town. The views were good. The breakfast was good value and varied. Close to shopping centre
Review 40:There was a marriage in the saloon right in front of our room, which lasted until midnight. This wasn't in our plans but the lady at the reception said we would have been informed if we would have made our reservation earlier and asked for thousand excuses, so probably it's not a regular thing.
Review 41:The Staff was in general very nice and ready to help.
Review 42:The bathroom smell, not clean and to small. Bed where bad, feel likefalling out,not in level.to much steeps not easy to find yoursroom. Breakfast bufe nothing good with it. Real bad fore the priceslow internet
Review 43:Free parking
Review 44:Bed linen didn't look clean Floor was dusty Colour of decor doesn't help - room is dark. Blue & White would give a much cleaner brighter look.
Review 45:Staff on reception and in bar/restaurant were great
Review 46:On our return journey, we tried to book in but the rooms had increased in price due to a nearby festival, so we went to another hotel.
Review 47:Very well presented rooms, good location-just off the motorway with cheap fuel near by. Good buffet breakfast.
Review 48:No air con or ceiling fan, dinning room / club room was clean but tired looking, location was outside town and transport was a must not sub table for invalids due to lots stairs.
Review 49:Hotel was adequate for a one night stop.
Review 50:No soundproofing at all: we heard the TV from 2 rooms below as if it was in our room. Really uncomfortable to reach (but we knew it), the structure seemed much more better on the pictures. No elevator - we drag our luggage to the 4th floor to find ourselves in a mansard room with a skeewed ceiling, so we regularly impinged our heads damning the architect. The breakfast was really scarse and not valid for the price requested (not included in the hotel rate).
Review 51:The bathroom was nice. Our room had two windows, so was rather well ventilated.
Review 52:run down location which had high aspiration in earlier years but cannot live up to it anymore: - paper-thin walls - dark hallways - small and dusty rooms - lots of weeds - tennis court cragged and dirty
Review 53:breakfast was acceptable for 6€ and tennis court was really cheap (5,-€ for 90 min incl. rackets and balls). Restitration clerk was friendly (though completely overworked!)
Review 54:Far away from center. The room is very small. You don't feel to use bath tab. Poor dog is barking a lot. It takes 30mins to the center by bus.
Review 55:The Staff is nice and friendly. You can park your car at the shopping mall near by and possible to take a bus to the center from there.
Review 56:Room was damp - no fan in bathroom and ceiling covered in mold. Far from center of town - needed to take car and parking was expensive
Review 57:Best price for high seasn accommodations in San Sebastian. Convenient location off highway - good for arrival from Bilbao airport. Ample free parking
Review 58:Our ground floor room resembled a basement prison, with barred windows too high up to see out of. The tiny shower was challenging to use. We drove about 15 minutes to reach San Sebastian's city center.
Review 59:The reception clerk was friendly, helpful and spoke English. She provided my group with maps and was accommodating to our request for 3 twin beds. This pension abuts a natural park and is quiet at night, making it a good location if your focus is on the park. The breakfast buffet is adequate, though not exciting. Juice dispenser, coffee machine, toast, ham, cheese, yogurt and a few pieces of sad looking pastries.
Review 60:it was well out of town(10 euro taxi)it could be a good facility but is very run down, only basic catering, no dinner menu.Appeared to be a rallying ponit for local tradesmen on the way home a bit rough
Review 61:th staff were helpful enough and there was plenty of parking space
Review 62:It is far from the center but with a car there is no issue
Review 63:Staff kind and helpful managed to find a solution to a last minute problem Location nice and clean Sport activities also available
Review 64:Helpful staff. Good parking. Fast food style restaurant but good quality. Good wifi coverage. Overall this hotel was superb value for money.
Review 65:All
Review 66:Should offer at least a shampoo, shower gel is terrible
Review 67:Staff was very nice, clean and spacious bedroom, silent place
Review 68:Everything
Review 69:Very very very bad WiFi reception. Not enough soundproofing in the rooms.
Review 70:Great location for quick access to the city center.
Review 71:Poor quality food!
Review 72:Good location, great view
Review 73:comfortable room
Review 74:Good overall but to far from San Seb and not suitable for a family of four. Four travellers fine, but not great for us.
Review 75:Great for younger travellers
Review 76:Ideal stop-over, comfortable and clean. We arrived late and were still able to get something to eat at the hotel.
Review 77:Needs a full refurb, very dated and run down
Review 78:Very efficient staff
Review 79:Built in 1980 and shows it - chocolate brown everywhere. High risk of scalding in the shower. Sound proofing poor.
Review 80:Well run and very clean.
Review 81:The walls are not insulated, very noisy place. It does not smell very nice.
Review 82:Very helpful staff.
Review 83:Lots of mosquitos and very hot in the room
Review 84:Too hard to find!
Review 85:The need of two taxis to go to town. We were six.
Review 86:Spacious and clean.
Review 87:The lack of air conditioning and no screens on the windows allowed the bugs to fly in and resulted in bug bites.
Review 88:Staff
Review 89:The room smelled bad, it was about as comfortable as a youth hostel, and the walls were paper thin. One of the worst rooms I have ever stayed in!
Review 90:Well walls in our room needed repairs. Bathtub had some rust. No air conditioning and if opened windows all kinds of bugs came in.
Review 91:Outside the center of town, free parking, nice garden.
Review 92:Location quite far... From the city, groceries store.
Review 93:Comfortable room, clean and very nice staff
Review 94:in the hills but 10 minute drive into san Sebastian.
Review 95:location
Review 96:Quite difficult to find, not well signposted A bit away from San sebestian
Review 97:Staff are very helpful. Nice setting Spacious room
Review 98:Bed is not comfortable and I couldn't sleep well with mosquitos inside the room. Expensive for 55 euros the night.
Review 99:Quality of breakfast, Not as nice as exected from pictures
Review 100:By car, 10min to City Center San Sebastian
Review 101:Hotel is located 100 m from highway and extremely noisy. Restaurant and reception area not at all appealing.
Review 102:Clean.
Review 103:Noise, bed, no frigo bar
Review 104:Parking free, Good bathroom, big room
Review 105:Photos not corresponding with reality. Mouldy walls. Paper thin walls. Much too expensive for value.
Review 106:Parking included. Nothing else!
Review 107:Starting to look dated in some areas.
Review 108:Price, Location, close to motorways heading south, Quiet, Helpful Staff.
Review 109:The room was full of mold, it stinky so much that we could hardly breath. Just wanted to leave the place.
Review 110:Isolated, you need a car or other transport
Review 111:Everything was fine for our one night stay, excellent buffet breakfast.
Review 112:The reception area is poorly arranged and dirty. No air conditioning in the rooms; no phones in the rooms despite the distance of the different villas to the reception. Computer sized TV. Expensive for the service provided.
Review 113:Facilities, shower and bathroom could of been better kept up and cleanliness could of been better. The mattress on the bed also was past its sell by date.
Review 114:staff were friendly and accommodating, I called to say I was arriving very late, around 1230am and there wasn't no hassle or problems, on arrival I was helped with cases to my room and staff at breakfast couldn't help enough.
Review 115:- i guess a car is needed for easier access to the hostel.. a bit less than 10 minutes to drive from the train station. We had a car; so there was no problem. - My friend was sneezing for a few times during our 1-night stay at the hostel. He was not sick; so we think the room was not clean enough (because of the dust from the blanket?). - no refrigerator in the room - a bit difficult to lock and unlock the door of our room with the key provided.. needed to try a few times (every time) before we managed to open/close the door
Review 116:- We stayed in the twin/double room. In the toilet, there were 2 glasses & 2 pieces of soups. The toilet bowl looked clean. - i expected the hostel or the room to be in poorer quality due to its overall rating here but in general, it is a bit better than i thought. :P - i like that it is on a small hill (not the top of the hill as i remember) = more relaxing + the view and the surroundings were quite nice. - i will say if you are not that picky and if you want to save money (but still have a private room) and if you have a car, this pension can be one of the ok choices. - i was satisfied with this pension and had some nice experience there anyway. : )
Review 117:Others were loud and there was no soundproofing. The ceilings were very low resulting in bruised heads a number of times. The room was advertised as a quad room and had six beds, which is fine but there were originally five in our party so we had booked and paid for an extra room when we did not need it.
Review 118:The room was huge with two rooms rather than one although the second seemed to serve no purpose.
Review 119:Relaxing, at the countryside Pension.Stopped driving, took a Taxi to the city centre, very reasonable price, spent some 7 hours sightseeings, eating various pintxos/wines.Had real good time.
Review 120:Small room. No air conditioning. No heating. Lack of rooms for non-smokers. Not enough secure site and rooms.
Review 121:Friendly staff. Trouble-free booking.
Review 122:But there was a strange smell, really old fashion stuff, broken sink... I will not come back.
Review 123:The good thing is that we only sleep for a night and left early in the morning. Bed and cleaning were ok...
Review 124:The first room had a broken toilet and was tiny - it basically fit the bed. There as no desk. The second room they gave us had a desk and was a bit larger. Beds have one large, single pillow we fought over during our stay. One pillow???
Review 125:Ample free parking, good WiFi, the bar had a pool table, and it was an hour's walk from downtown San Sebastian, or 20 minutes by convoluted and confusing highway.
Review 126:I was obliged to pay an additional fee; the hotel claimed that if we are two per room, the price is higher than what I saw in my boking confirmation and they claimed that this is a problem of booking.com site! The very bad smell of toilets in the room.
Review 127:A little way out of town, I didn't quite realize how long it would take to get to the city, however using a car made it much easier.
Review 128:Really helpful staff! Very approachable and happy to help with questions... Because of the location I chose to hire a car, and the large car park made it very easy to use. The room was quite large and excellent value. The bar food was great too.
Review 129:The hotel need an upgrade, the same staff at the reception helping at the bar. The room's floor was dirty, the bathroom was dirty, no air circulation, and the beds were poorly made. Need to improve cleaning staff.
Review 130:The view. Fresh air .
The Fine Print
