Reviews for Schlosshotel zum Markgrafen

Review 1:No elevator. A good work out if your room is on the top floor.

Review 2:Wonderful staff who were committed to good service, a beautiful house and perfect location. Breakfast was extensive and well presented and the efforts to restore the villa to its former glory have been highly successful. The views of the town are also beautiful.

Review 3:I could not eat dinner at the hotel . I was guided the restaurants of other hotels. However, it was refused at that restaurant.

Review 4:The room is wide, clean . I was able to see the city of world heritage from the window .

Review 5:A lot of stairs to our room. No curtains on dormer windows which would have been aggravating in summer

Review 6:Good position in town, friendly staff. Good response to item left behind

Review 7:Tired carpets and spots on carpet. Shower not perfectly clean.a touch of regal livfe

Review 8:Location, castle atmosphere and the staff. A very good breakfast.

Review 9:My husband was disappointed by the fact that there was supposed to be a mini-bar, but there wasn't any in our room. Also no AC, so it was very hot.

Review 10:It's a castle in a fairy-tale like small town!

Review 11:Just a word of caution: It took 5 stairs to get up to our room. No elevator. This did not bother me, however, some people might have an issue with that.

Review 12:Great bedroom with tall ceilings and stained glass windows, good sized shower and bathroom. Also everything was very clean. The owner was very helpful with taking our luggage up and giving us directions into town. The breakfast was fantastic. Great selection and service. They even lit the candles on our table when we sat down. Nice touch! the location is great as well, a stone's throw away from "downtown"

Review 13:The WiFi was down for 3 days av we were served an obvious bs story on why. Nobody spoke english, as was claimed at the website. Lawnmoving at PM 7:30 friday night with exhausts leaking into the room wasn't appreciated.

Review 14:The hotel is in an old 19th century mansion, lovely renovated and located 10 minutes walk from the city centre. Elegant rooms and adueqate breakfast. The staff always helpul and kind.

Review 15:Great Location, great views, extremely friendly staff. The owner had some great suggestions on eating places and was very helpful with any requests. He gave us a tour of the building quite impressive. The rooms were good with all necessary items except coffee/tea facilities but that was quickly rectified and an electric jug provided.

Review 16:Wi fi not working. Towels in room were worn. Scaffolding all round the building. Only accepted cash on departure due to "problem with card machine". Overall, quite 'tatty' not a four star experience.

Review 17:Very good location. Interesting architecture and history.

Review 18:The badly marked bedroom carpet, the flies in the room and the two single beds pushed together.

Review 19:Our sitting room in a turret with stained glass windows. The room was warm and the bathroom quite modern and great views to all sides of beautiful Quedlinburg.

Review 20:I was travelling with a family of 6. I contacted the hotel before confirming my booking to say that my elderly mother who used a wheelchair would need a ground floor room. I was assured of this via email at no extra cost. However, on arriving, we were told this was not possible and my 83 year old mother had to walk up 60 steps to get to our room which made her breathless and she had to rest half way each time she went to her room. The extra 2 beds in our quadruple room were camp beds.

Review 21:Staying in a castle so close to the market square and the owner was very friendly.

Review 22:Wi-Fi didn't reach our room. Some small flies on food at the breakfast.

Review 23:Nice atmosphere. Big room. Special feeling that you stay not in an ordinary hotel. Interesting place. There was a short excursion around the building when we checked-in. Really interesting place to stay. Good breakfast.

Review 24:Schlosshotel zum Markgrafen made for a very comfortable stay... in fact one night turned into two. We particularly enjoyed the close proximity to the lovely Market Square of Quedlinburg - very enchanting!

Review 25:Room was really neat in the castle. But, it was on the top floor so you have to go up 4 flights of stairs with all of your bags. Also, there was no air or fans so it was quite warm. The 4th fl was mediocre compared to the rest of the castle. It wasn't that bad, just not gorgeous. I would stay again and still recommend. It is a good choice for something really unique.

Review 26:Kids loved staying in an old castle. It is beautiful! Great location...just a 5 minute walk into the main square. Not a lot of English speaking in the hotel or around town. Breakfast was ok.

Review 27:Extra charge to pay with Visa card! Too few personal regarding the ambitions resulted in slow serving.

Review 28:Large park, free parking, large room, nice view over the city

Review 29:no lift.

Review 30:location. close to town centre.

Review 31:Staying at that hotel is the closest I will get to being royalty!! :o}

Review 32:The hotel is beautiful but guests cannot see enough of it!

Review 33:Wonderful breakfasts. Really kind and helpful staff.

Review 34:very expensive drinks in hotel bar, 61stairs no lift,

Review 35:location, really quiet hotel, ample car parking, in own secure grounds,

Review 36:Bed and pillow very uncomfortable. Needs renovation.

Review 37:Location, breakfast, friendly staff.

Review 38:Great location and atmosphere.

Review 39:Everything was perfect - location, breakfast, quiet rooms, beautiful house. There is no elevator but this is mentioned in the webpage.

Review 40:The room was too hot as we had 35C outside, and there was only one small window and no air conditioning. However, this was only our room. The room of our friends had two larger windows and cooled down better during the night.

Review 41:The hotel is amazing! It is an old castle villa from 1898. Very cool place. I would definitely stay there again. Very close to the village center. Very good breakfast! Beautiful rooms!

Review 42:A relatively cheap price for a stay in a former castle-type mansion. Location was awesome, parking is free on site, rooms are large and clean. A old tower is located right next to hotel for great views on top. 1 Euro buys entry into it. Hotel staff was friendly and gave us a little tour of the mansion. Very memorable trip in Quedlinburg started with this hotel.

Review 43:We loved the room atmosphere and the regal setting ! Never slept so well... felt really like a royal ! The personal tour of the castle was also really great ... amazing history! Closeness to the old city made it perfect.

Review 44:61 steps up to the bedrooms = no lift. At least it got some of theweight off.

Review 45:Excellent staff and owner. World-heritage town - full of tourists (likeus). Famous castle. Ace base for Harz 'experience' =mountains/railways/ lakes/coffee und kuchen. Owner carryingcases up to room! (Now THAT's a first)

Review 46:Carpet in our room in need of cleaning no curtains at windows no liftand this is not mentioned in any hotel description - rooms are on fifthfloor! No tea/coffee making facilities in room

Review 47:Lovely gothic style building in quiet location Spacious room

Review 48:An elevator had been nice.

Review 49:Good location, close to city center, service ok,large room, shower, toilet very fine. Internetconetion worked outstanding during the stay, whitch is not very common.

Review 50:Our room (a "quad") was actually a double room with two extra beds crammed in it on the top floor with only two tiny windows that you could not see out of unless you jumped up on a chair or the bed. It is not what you see when you select a quad on Booking.com. The carpet was a little dirty and well worn. It was not at all luxurious or what we expected for the money. No restaurant on site. It appears that the hotel was better at one time but perhaps is starting to run down.

Review 51:The location was great, within walking distance of all important areas of Quedlinburg. The reception was warm and friendly. The young man who checked us in especially was helpful and spoke English. The beds were comfortable. The bath was modern and had plenty of hot water. The Breakfast buffet was plentiful and good with fresh rolls, meats, cheeses, eggs, fruit, etc. You can eat inside or out and the patio was nice.

Review 52:It was the worst 4star hotel I have ever been to! The number of starsmust be a mistake. The check in time on the web site was from 1 P.M. andwe arrived at 3 P.M. and the room was not cleaned yet. We had to waitfor 40 minutes and it was not the room that I picked on the web site. Itwas supposed to be a “deluxe double room” and what we got was a room onvery high third floor, with a tiny little window and a fragment of aroof in front of it! It did not smell nice and the design was awful.Climbing the stairs after a long walk in the city is an effort even fora young person (there is no lift). Staff hardly speak English, unpleasant atmosphere, very poor quality breakfast and the worst coffeeI’ve ever had in Germany (it’s usually very good wherever you go). It’snot worth the money and I would not recommend this hotel at all.

Review 53:The only good thing was a comfortable, wide bed.

Review 54:Nothing really

Review 55:Great to stay in a former palace in a very charming atmosphere. From our room we could enjoy the view of the old city. Fine breakfast too.

Review 56:It is an old style castle. A bit Faulty Towers, but with charm. If unable to walk up 3 flights of stairs to rooms then ask for the suite which is only one level up.

Review 57:The family room is a bit smaller than other hotels we’ve stayed at inGermany, and it was a little warm with only a small window forventilation.

Review 58:The breakfast was excellent, and the staff were very friendly. It is ina great location very close to the center of town.

Review 59:We picked this hotel because it was supposed to have WiFi. It wasnot working and the woman at the front desk was indifferent totrying to fix it.The bar wasn't open.

Review 60:It's a real castle! It is beautiful and the location is amazing. The inn keeper was very pleasant although he didn't speak much English.

Review 61:Rooms are at the third floor, no elevator, which means it is hard work to get to your rooms.

Review 62:Location is lovely with an impressive building in which the hotel is located.

Review 63:It was said in the booking slip that they have wired internet in rooms, but we couldn't find any network jack. The restaurant was not working which was a little difficult, since finding anything nice for Christmas eve was difficult.

Review 64:It was a beautiful location, extremely clean, warm and cozy rooms. Thestaff were friendly and helpful.

Review 65:Staff don't speak English. Also we had to wait a lot for the room even though we arrive at check-in time.

Review 66:Breakfast was perfect. The hotel has very interesting design.

Review 67:Don't take heavy suitcases, otherwise you'll need to carry themupstairs.

Review 68:Very nice little old castle[-like] building. Very pleasant staff with afamily touch. You walk out of the hotel and directly into the medievalcity of Quedlinburg with the most beautiful half-timbered buildings.

Review 69:Small room all the way at the attic, with hardly any view over the town.Bath turned out the a simple shower, even though it was mentioned on thesite we would get a bath. The bathroom was stinking the next morning, asit seems the plumbing is as old as the building. The sewage smell madeit impossible to take a shower in the morning. They fixed that duringour breakfast, but we had no time left. They gave us a 30 Euro discount, which showes they cared about the issue. All in all this is not a 4 starhotel, a 3 would sound more like it.

Review 70:Helpful staff, great location and good breakfast.

Review 71:I missed information about the castle. According to a townie, the castlewas built by a rich man who just fancied having a castle. Perhaps it'san embarrassment that there's nothing royal about it, but I would reallyhave enjoyed it if they could celebrate this quirky fact with morebackground info bout him. I also wish that the garden would be bettermaintained as it certainly looks short of a gardener and it could alsodo with some more flowers and trimmed shrubbery

Review 72:We loved staying at this castle-hotel, first and foremost because of thetown itself. Quedlinburg is truly a marvellous place, almost unreal -like walking onto a massive film set that went on and on. Compared tothe town this castle is a newbie, but it surely adds magic and aromantic frame to your stay. Room was big, shower comfortable andeverything clean and pristine. We really enjoyed having breakfast on thepatio in fair weather, and having a key to use the door in the wall toget to the town centre quickly was really exciting!

Review 73:My room was uncomfortably warm until late at night. It was alsodifficult to get cold water out of the washroom sink.

Review 74:Great location, easily accessible by car, but very close to the Markt.Because I traveled with my dog, I also very much appreciated theenclosed park the hotel sits in. I've rarely stayed at a hotel with abetter view from my room.

Review 75:They could benefit from WiFi - but you could connect by cable - not anoption with the iPad, but a very minor inconvenience - just use 3g! Ifyou are an elder couple, you may want to let them know as it couldimpact where your room is located and without an elevator the hike tothe top floor might be a bit much - but very minor point as they offeredto bring our bags to our room.

Review 76:One of the best places that we have stayed in the past couple of years, and we travel a great deal. Loved this hotel. From the personalgreeting, the amazing grounds, the facilities are inspiring, the roomsare luxurious, the location is amazing, the breakfast buffet wasperfect. There are not enough words to describe this Hotel. We bookedtwo rooms to accommodate our family of six and could not have asked formore. Quedlinburg was just incredibly beautiful and a true hidden jewel.

Review 77:The room was advertised as deluxe and considered that having paidslightly more than other rooms advertised, it would have been of deluxestandard, it was also advertised as having a seating area, to ourdisappointment this was not the case and the room although clean andwell furnished was small and not as definitely not as advertised. I feelas thought we had been duped into paying for a deluxe room when in factit was an attic room, most evident by the very small window at the topof the hotel central between two large double windows. The hotel wasalso advertised as having a restaurant, but was closed, not sure why asthe start of the holiday season. Hotel staff extremely helpful andpleasant but under significant pressure to serve breakfast and check outguests on the Sunday morning; significant shortage of staff. All in allslightly disappointed and somewhat spoilt our weekend break.

Review 78:An impressive building, clean rooms, well decorated and furnished, withfriendly staff who made you feel welcome. Convenient location on thevery edge of town with free parking.

Review 79:Limited English spoken by staff so difficult to get answers to touristquestions- butTourist information point located close.

Review 80:Loved the hotel furnishings and old worlcharm. Superb breakfast withLots of variety of food choice.Staff pleasant and extremely polite.

Review 81:We expected a castle atmosphere and other than the suit of armour in the foyer and the sixty steps to the third floor where the rooms are located it is no different than any other hotel

Review 82:We liked the location, short walk to town square and restaurants, shops and tourist attractions within the town. Pleasant and helpful staff. Nice airy room, very clean great 100 degree Weview

Review 83:Water supply in whole hotel was turned off at night till 7 A.M. Verysurprising, especially if you need to wake up at 6 A.M. and need toleave hotel at 7 A.M.

Review 84:Location, parking, atmosphere, interior.

Review 85:It had beautiful antique furnishings; gorgeous chandlier on our 3rdfloor lobby, wonderful bed linnens. Everything was perfect! Thanks youfor a great overnight stay in your awesome castle-hotel.Sharon Fogarty (mother of Lisa Reilly) USA

Review 86:Really friendly owner. Great location quiet, in own park , yet very easy access to town. Lots of character

Review 87:There was a bad odor in the room. We had to sleep with the windows open all night.

Review 88:Grand old house, beautiful outdoor spaces, and great breakfast.

Review 89:Absence of elevator

Review 90:Ambience, comfortable beds, great breakfast, awesome location

Review 91:Carpets were a bit old and dirty.

Review 92:Situation, old building, nice room.

Review 93:the number of stairs

Review 94:type of hotel, location

Review 95:old villa with big garden friendly staff good breakfast location is super

Review 96:Beautiful location and a very special hotel with historical flair and extra friendly service

Review 97:No restaurant. Could not see what made it worth 160€ a night?

Review 98:Excellent location.

Review 99:Small tv

Review 100:Close to the old part of town, good views, good selection for breakfast, helpful staff

Review 101:relaxing, helpful staff, quiet, parking in private grounds, close to town centre.

Review 102:stairs time for breakfast request was not honored

Review 103:Avery attractive setting

Review 104:nice location near historic town nice garden nice classic building nice breakfast

Review 105:Better if staff can communicate more fluently in English, as non-fluentGerman speaker.

Review 106:Good atmosphare, concenient accsses to the central city.

Review 107:Very Good but no Elevator or Restaurant

The Fine Print

Please note that the hotel grounds are locked at night, and only guests can obtain access. There is no elevator at the hotel. The room photos are reference-only. Due to the estate's architecture, each room is different.
