Reviews for Roca Negra Hotel & Spa
Review 1:Noice from lound next door neighbors in the weekend...
Review 2:Great view from balcony, great breakfast buffet, great pool area. Nice location with beautiful walkway to town. We'll be back... :-)
Review 3:That we could not be fitted in for spa treatments as that was the reason for our stay, and been charged for using the spa facilities.
Review 4:Rooms where lovely, clean and provided everything we would of needed for a nice stay. Staff very helpful.
Review 5:Swimming pool not heated, sad and cold pool bar, extremely bad wifi, paying spa access !?!
Review 6:Views, walking path to the port, convenient location for excursions (stunning nature and beautiful villages)
Review 7:The AC in the room is pretty dis-functional. Extremely noisy and rather than cooling, makes the room warm. We were woken up feeling suffocated at 2AM and then had to sleep with the balcony door open throughout
Review 8:Very committed and helpful staff, willing to go the extra mile. Location is exotic and very peaceful. Breakfast is of incredible quality.
Review 9:There was no parking a the hotel when we arrive at night. The parking place in front of the hotel was closed with a chain. We had to carry our suitcases in an awful rain.
Review 10:Fantastic views of the sea and Tenerife, we were on the second floor but I don't think you would have those views from the ground floor. The restaurant was excellent, all you eat breakfast, Dinner, all you could eat salad bar and a choice of 2 dishes from the set menu which was different every night.
Review 11:Only good for 3 days because there are not so many restaurants. (Other then fishrestaurants)
Review 12:Location !! value for money, nice swimming pool, parking garage, very good for people who want to be at a quiet beautiful place
Review 13:Perfect hotel on the north-west part of Gran Canaria. Great breakfest, large room, close to the natural piscinas as well as small beach, great coctails in the bar.....
Review 14:-Wanted to surprise my wife. Rented a car and drived it around the whole island only to be told that the suit i booked was not avaible. For the first time in my life i got "downgraded". Big dissapointment!
Review 15:The only thing we found a shame is that the room had no view at all and did not have coffee or tea facilities. The location of the hotel did mean that you would have a car as getting around is a little difficult without. Also, near the hotel are no bars/cafes. One has to walk down to the nearest village which is 15 mins away and uphill on the way back which is possibly too hard for elderly or disabled people. We loved the location however as it was an unspoilt spot without mass tourism.
Review 16:All the staff were helpful and friendly especially the restaurant staff. Helpful and smiling every day. The room was the cheaper classic which are situated on the 1st and 4th and 5th floor. We were on the 4th floor which did not have a view so get one on 1st floor which has access to the pool or 5th floor which will have a view on the ocean. The room was large and very comfortable. The shower was fantastic. The 'superior' rooms are on 2nd and 3rd floor and have ocean views and more amenities.
Review 17:Food: I had better meals in the worst canteens I visited. Breakfast is embarassing for a 4 Stars. SPA: Small, entrance needs to be booked in advanced for max. 2h:30 min with an extra fee of about 30 Euro.
Review 18:Sea view
Review 19:Spa / Wellness area not included room-rate. Breakfast-scenario is a bit weird, because cups and glases are not where you normally expect them to be, giving rather much confusion for +30 people..
Review 20:Great view and the foot-path to the town 10 min away.
Review 21:The car parking is a bit strange, there are limited spaces in the car park under the hotel. There are more spaces in a secure park across the road but you have to ask for it to be opened. A bit of a pain that someone has to get out of the car to ask reception to open the garage door.
Review 22:The staff were friendly and efficient especially the staff in the restaurant and bar.
Review 23:NO HEATING first night, told it was off. It was 8 degrees outside! Horrible feel to the hotel, terrible location, parking is a mess, areas chained off with no signs anywhere.
Review 24:Good sized room, great shower
Review 25:Breakfast fine but easy food & not the best we have had.Acceptable though.
Review 26:A lovely hotel with nice views & a lovely Christmas feel. Would love to go back. Easy & enjoyable walk to restaurants by Ferry or up to the town which has a nice spanish feel.
Review 27:lack of places in the garage of the hotel -> need to park our car in the garage of the nearby restaurant, which acces (in or out) requires a manual intervention of the receptionist.
Review 28:large room
Review 29:We found the closest shop/market being in Puerto de Nieves, which was rather close anyway.
Review 30:Beautiful location and surrounding gardens on top of the cliff. Ocean views from pool area and room were simply great. Modern facility and in good condition. Good breakfast buffet and lot of room for dining.
Review 31:- The breakfast is mediocre, the dinner was truly bad; - The mold in the bathtub silicone; - The room's air conditioning, even turned off, sounded like a water fall when raining outside. Was to the point of waking us up at night; - The TV was not centered with the bed and was impossible to be watched from the sofa since both are against the same wall; - The hotel is 5 years old and is already losing it's painting on the exterior walls, including the room's balcony; - Parking was limited to some 15 or 16 spots in the garage and parking on the street is difficult due to being a residential area with only a one way street; - The decorative pillows and comforter I took from bed to the sofa the first night remained there throughout our entire stay, never being placed back in bed by the room service; - Paper instructions were given in an A4 printed paper and a couple more small papers. This seems sloppy for a 4 star hotel.
Review 32:- The view; - The pool area seemed nice and pretty from the balcony, we did not use it; - The bed, even though consisting of two single beds pushed together, was comfortable; - We were offered a complimentary 90 minutes SPA access for the couple.
Review 33:evening restaurant dreadful quality limited choice of food lack of local decent restaurants ants in room poor reception staff lack of activities and options no biking facilities no bars in town poor lighting to town on walkway
Review 34:company swimming pool pool bar room was fairly OK nice views breakfast was ok
Review 35:Nothing at all! It was great.
Review 36:The staff were extremely friendly, the location was just what we were looking for - a far cry from the built-up tourist areas in the south of the island, our room was wonderful with a terrace that opened out onto the poolside. The spa was a perfect way to spend a rainy afternoon.
Review 37:Plastic mattress protectors (yuck!) - sticky night's sleep.
Review 38:Excellent location, very reasonably priced for the facilities offered, good free gym facility, good size pool (I think 25m), good breakfast buffet, excellent room size with sofa and balcony
Review 39:lack of entertainment in hotel or locally/non availability of food all day/no tea-coffee making facilities in room.
Review 40:Sea views/cool breezes/quiet/relaxing
Review 41:The menu in the pool bar needs to be improved. The restaurant is very sub standard for such a beautiful hotel, there is huge scope for improvement here. There needs to be a kids menu in both the pool bar and restaurant,
Review 42:Loved the pool area. Very calm and quiet atmosphere. Room was fantastic with excellent access to the pool. Reception staff were excellent. Buffet breakfast was excellent.
Review 43:The food in restaurant for evening meals is poor and over priced. There was a cock roach in our room.
Review 44:The pool and spa area are really nice. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
Review 45:Nothing!
Review 46:Beautiful, modern design; large room with gated patio leading to swimming pool; location with access to salt pools and harbour with restaurants; scenic views from terrace
Review 47:Leaving.
Review 48:Everything
Review 49:The bed and pillow,,towels could be of better quality
Review 50:A bit remote
Review 51:Relaxing location
Review 52:- Restaurants in hotel terrible - WIFI to weak to use - you have to pay separately for Spa facilities
Review 53:- Rooms with seaside - Nice swimming pool
Review 54:I liked everything about this hotel. Ideal for a restful stay.
Review 55:A great hotel for a quiet holiday surrounded by lovely mountains and sea views
Review 56:Modern, good quality furnishings, sea view, nice food. Really convenient for Fred Olsen ferry to Tenerife.
Review 57:I had to work on Sunday.
Review 58:Quietfulness. Jacuzzi next to the pool.
Review 59:Would have like tea and coffee making facilities in room
Review 60:The spacious rooms and lovely views
Review 61:Beautiful views of the coast. Rooms were spacious and comfortable and staff pleasant and helpful. Wished could've stayed longer.
Review 62:Nothing of note
Review 63:near the port for the ferry
Review 64:staff were very friendly and arranged a room upgrade for our anniversary. View spectacular
Review 65:nothing.
Review 66:sea view ...sounds of sea...staff...spa....food....location........local village and port amazing....totally brilliant place
Review 67:Plastic sheet on bed meant bad nights sleep! Food plentiful but not great
Review 68:Very helpful staff Great spa, pool and views
Review 69:Very comprehensive buffet breakfast.Hot element not to my liking and need to be kept warm.
Review 70:Short and sweet.Convenient for port
Review 71:- Lack of choice in food - A man walking during brekfast and repeating all the time that 5 min left.
Review 72:-Spa -Service -Comfort
Review 73:The view from the room was lovely
Review 74:Nothing to coplain about.
Review 75:Location and facilities, extremely helpful and professional stuff.

Review 90:I don't like breakfast
Review 91:I like spa and pool
Review 92:No hay muchas sombrillas y hamacas.
Review 93:Amplia habitación, tranquilo, buen desayuno
Review 94:Breakfast and the bad wifi in the rooms. It's a very windy area but nice when the sun comes out.
Review 95:Spa. Nice walk to the port
Review 96:Evening meals were just okay and there could have been a big screen for the World Cup football
Review 97:The pool was awesome and the cocktails yummy.
Review 98:swimming pool security facilities
Review 99:Location, food, room design
Review 100:Not many English speaking channels on the really nice TV which was provided.
Review 101:The attention to detail in the rooms and around the hotel was commendable. The facilities were excellent . Staff were pleasant and helpful
Review 102:The pool bar food is limitied, and not of a great quality if you want to not leave the complex there is also the restuarant but this too is slightly limited in the variety of food offered.
Review 103:We have been here on several occasions and can safely say it´s one of our most favorite places and hotels. It´s a peaceful and relaxing place, isolated from most things which is what we as travellers were seeking. The hotel and it´s staff are always helpful, and the facilities on site are very good. The spa is one of the best yet visited, and I would highly recommend it.
Review 104:The breakfast was absolutely terrible (very low quality of food, I didn't even know 4* hotels can give away "scrambled eggs" made out of powder) and some of the hotel staff had little knowledge of English. We also paid 120+ EUR per night and although we enjoyed the stay overall, it didn't feel we got enough for this amount of money.
Review 105:The view from the room was magnificent, and the room itself was very nice and clean. We also loved the pool, the SPA, and the nearby town (Agaete).
Review 106:I liked everything! I didnt like leaving!!
Review 107:The Roca Negra hotel is beautiful. Instantly you are met with friendly helpful staff at rreception. You are then informed that you will receive a free cocktail, a 90 minute spa session and afternoon tea! The room itself (which was a superior room on the second floor) was enormous, modern and very clean. It had a perfect view of the cliffs and the ocean. The pool qrea is clean, quiet and elaxing. There is a lovely walkway from the hotel along the cliffs to the natural pools of Agaete and further along the restaurants. The breakfast room is lovely and the breakfast was also very nice. A lovely hotel to visit!
Review 108:Paying an extra 26 euro to use the spa's jacuzzi and pools for 90minutes is too much. We were given it free as a complimentary gift butit should have been included in the price anyway. No writteninstructions provided on what the hotel's facilities were or whenthey were available.
Review 109:Very nice "luxury hotel" with nice rooms and pool overlookingthe sea. Easy walking distance to the sea, port and mountains. Goodrange of breakfast buffet food and friendly staff.
Review 110:Roca Negra hotel was a bitter disappointment. The hotel is extremely exposed on top of a wind-blown cliff. (It's also adjacent to a large area filled with landfill and rubbish that isn't visible from the hotel). Our "luxury suite with sea view" was not heated prior to arrival and we had to use bath towels as blankets. The hotel was less than 10% full so I presume our suite had been standing unheated for months. It took 48 hours before the room was warm. The bathroom was cold, shabby, dark and non-luxurious. Our suite was sterile with uncomfortable furniture, hard beds and minimal bedding. The minibar was empty except for 2 bottles of water and no facilities. TV was all in Spanish and the only other option was the bar. The balcony was in the shade and unusable because of constant cold wind. The cleaners "forgot" to clean the room on one day.. Dining room was in a restaurant across the road. Breakfast was adequate but unexciting and the coffee dreadful. We ate one evening meal in the "restaurant", which only has a set menu, and the only meat on offer was "white german sausage". We didn't bother finishing the meal and never used the restaurant again. The swimming pool was unheated and windblown. The pool bar was OK and served food but the WC didn't have hand soap and the waiters were using the same WC so we dropped the pool bar too.. The nearest good restaurant (there are many) is in Puerto de las Nieves, which is a brisk 25 minutes walk under sea cliffs and partly unlit. This is OK in daylight but at 19.00 it's too dark to walk back to Roca Negra over stoney unlit paths.Booking.com rates the hotel at 9.2 (should be 2.9). We've stayed at many cheaper and better hotels in Oslo (the world's most expensive city) for less than Roca Negra! This is an overpriced, charmless, "designer" hotel that is totally misrepresented by the photographs shown on Booking.com.
Review 111:Garage parking. Friendly atmosphere in the pool bar. Garden was nice. Wifi was useable on a good day.. Free ticket to the spa, which was of no interest to us.
Review 112:Sadly, the area appears to be almost always covered in cloud. We had to travel around the island to find the sun. It could be mentioned in the hotel 'blurb' that this end of the island is often cloudy.
Review 113:The hotel and the area is clean, quiet and restful. Just right for us.
Review 114:Large room, design of the room, good internet connection. Good choice for breakfast. Guests arriving via booking.com receive free spa circuit voucher per person and welcome drink. Good access to Puerto las Nieves via promenade (10 minutes). Free parking in the garage.
Review 115:Spa are not included in the price , very windy in pool area, pool not heated ( ice cold ) outside jacuzzi not working , breakfast are same every day , only few restaurants in the village and most of them closing very early.
Review 116:Spa area, view from pool area, great housekeeping in the rooms.
Review 117:it is not normal that the hotel forgets to give the ID cards back despite we stay there 2 days
Review 118:nice pool bar. Nice view and terrace. The spa and fitness room. Promenade to go to Agaete port.
Review 119:not much to dislike.small details like better quality room towels and some attention to room maintenance necessary to maintain high standards.no information re hotel in room.
Review 120:location .good for walking and scenery.i dont drive but to take full advantage of inland sites need a car hire.ex b/fasts but used local fish rests for evening meals.hotel swimming pool area ex and spa very smart.
Review 121:Balconies facing North-West, no sun whatsoever; poor coffee; restaurant does not offer snacks or a la carte; restaurant/breakfast room has no atmosphere whatsoever and feels like a busy school canteen; very poor & expensive snacks in pool café; definitely not 8.9 stars in our book, glad we only stayed for 3 nights.
Review 122:Spacious room, lovely footpath to the village;
Review 123:The only problem was the standard of the restaurant. It did not match the standard of the hotel which was disappointing.
Review 124:Everything about the hotel was lovely.
Review 125:Lack of tea making facilities in room - should be standard for 4* hotel. Lack of any information about hotel, services or local area in room. Lack of any meeting place in evenings - e.g. a nice cosy bar for a night-cap
Review 126:Room was comfortable and very spacious. staff were friendly Great location
Review 127:Stayed in February. Due to position most room balcony/terraces are in the shade. Would have been good to have had the option to purchase snacks in the hotel in the evening.
Review 128:Wonderful views Fabulous room Lovely Staff Relaxing Great location just a short walk to beautiful Puerto De Las Nieves Spa circuit is wonderful especially the floatation pool. Comfy sun loungers and balcony/garden chairs Would definitely recommend.
Review 129:There was a beautiful view of the sea from the room, the pool and gardens are very nice with a lot of local species. The room is very spacious and it has air conditioning and heating, the bed is very comfortable. The spa is small but very complete, several saunas and jets... they provide tourist information at the desk.
Review 130:The restaurant. We had our dinner there once and it was enough. 22 EUR for a low quality food. The breakfast was also nothing to write home about.
Review 131:Modern facilities, very spacious rooms, helpful staff, calm location with a beautiful view. Great place to discover more authentic Gran Canaria. The fish restaurants down in the port are worth to visit.
