Reviews for Hotel Krone Assmannshausen
Review 1:Unless you pay for an upgrade, the rooms back onto a loud railway line. The staff are not very friendly. The internet was weak and the outdoor swimming pool was closed (not made clear when we booked).
Review 2:The breakfast was really good.
Review 3:Had to leave my door open to the balcony to get some air - really need fans. Also suggest brining ear plugs as the train runs all night.
Review 4:Breakfast was excellent as well as the evening meal. Also loved the Eighteenth Century furnishings.L
Review 5:Hot as blazes and only one small window. Hotel didn't seem to be so busy that they couldn't have given us a room with a balcony. It would have been nice to have a room with a balcony like the the description read. Also, bring earplugs for the trains riding by at all hours.
Review 6:Beautiful hotel in a incredible location. The staff were very kind and attentive. Hotel was like a museum with lots of charm and character.
Review 7:There was little help with carrying luggage up and down several sets of stairs. We were not asked if we wished to pay in pounds sterling at checkout and did not realise until we saw the visa statement that we had not been charged in euros. This was not made clear to us at check out - the staff said that they hoped we would return, we would like to, but are reluctant after what happened.
Review 8:The room had a beautiful view and it was good to stay in a 16th Century hotel with old fashioned charm.
Review 9:Lack of advertised facilities
Review 10:No restaurant or bar facilities open in a hotel of this standard. Had I of know I would not have booked. Very disappointing
Review 11:NO AIR CORN! It really wasn't very clean! I would suggest they close the hotel completely for a few months and renovate the whole hotel. Inside and outside dirty! Very dirty!!
Review 12:Friendly staff and excellent food! The history of the hotel and the oldness of the hotel.
Review 13:Impossible to have a bad experience anything bad in your wonderful hotel.
Review 14:We had stayed with you 30years ago and wanted to bring our children and grandchildren to experience your grand hotel for our 60th wedding anniversary ( last June). Wonderful.thank you all.
Review 15:They did not have dinner available in the restaurant all three nights because of a special group or closing early. Not enough staff at night to handle the bar or restaurant. Thought there would be air conditioning in rooms.
Review 16:Location was good to see the villages along the Rhine and Mosel rivers. Good parking and breakfast.
Review 17:Nothing the whole stay was great
Review 18:The location is perfect with ample free parking. Excellent indoor and outdoor restaurants with quality food and service.
Review 19:The service in the restaurant was unacceptable - after 20 minutes with no water, drink order, bread to nibble on, we got up and left. (Room service was excellent, however). Breakfast was, however, disappointing.
Review 20:Wonderful pile of turrets and half-timbering. Full of riverside romance and charm..
Review 21:Nil.
Review 22:It's a beautiful building with a history, and we had the balcony overlooking Rhine, and the castle that lit up after Sunset! Beautiful, what can I say! Nice breakfast.... best scrambled egg we have had!
Review 23:No porter service and coffee -maker is not rendered
Review 24:Free parking on the road, when car park is full. Tranquil environment and outstanding breakfast with warm service.
Review 25:1. no aircon and as such in the summer you cannot sleep the whole night. 2. WiFi stops any day at midnight...3. slow and bad quality WiFi
Review 26:1.the location, the view 2. breakfast
Review 27:Nothing.
Review 28:It felt like stepping into old Germany. Located by the Rhine River and wine vinyards, it had breathtaking vews. The room we stayed in was very spacious and super comfortable, with very soft pillows, a sitting area and a large marble bathroom. It was near the town of Assmannshausen and had beatiful houses and old fashioned German restaurants nearby.
Review 29:I loved the location and my room. The restaurant was really outstanding.
Review 30:Did not realize that the bar and restaurant were both closed on Monday.
Review 31:Room was great. Nice view of the Rhein and very comfortable. Good breakfast.
Review 32:None
Review 33:The setting and ambiance, the feeling was he best. The building / room was very quiet All we had hoped for
Review 34:Very beautiful old hotel...staff went out of their to accommodate
Review 35:tout
Review 36:The staff were very helpful and friendly Parking was great
Review 37:The ambiance is perfect. Room was nice and all in
Review 38:Bedroom very dated and cluttered, and the bed creaked with the slightest movement.
Review 39:Location, restaurant and stafff
Review 40:No free WiFi
Review 41:Staff and breakfast.
Review 42:no air con means the room is stuffy, breakfast is no good, location is too far and inconvenient
Review 43:balcony is big
Review 44:Leaving!!
Review 45:Excellent Dinner and ambiance of looking out over the Rhine River
Review 46:No conditioner in the room for hair.
Review 47:Restaurant, location and charm of antiques, decour and service were all excellent.
Review 48:old style comfort
Review 49:Alles gut mit dem Zimmer. Frei parken.
Review 50:History and Charm! Staff was wonderful!
Review 51:Swimming pool closed
Review 52:Very polite lady during breakfast
Review 53:Perfect setting, lovely food, very helpful staff. A bit what one associates with a "home from home" - just nicer!
Review 54:We were in the annex (which we had to lock the front door ourselves) which was outdated and sorely needed upgrading. Furniture was old and used and the bed was terrible. Swimming pool was not functioning. In a 5-star hotel one would expect much better!
Review 55:Restaurant was excellent. definitely recommendable. The balcony with a view of the Rhine was also enjoyable.
Review 56:Less impressed by chaos at breakfast because dining room full on the first day and even worse on second day when a staff member was off. Amazed that wi-fi connection had to be paid for in a hotel of this calibre. The whole place a bit 'tired'. Felt the evening dining was a bit pretentious and very expensive.
Review 57:Loved the situation. Impressed by the gentleman dining room manager. Enjoyed the faded elegance ambience.Would happily return.
Review 58:The cleanliness of the balcony was poor. A wall to wall carpet dusty causing allergic response. Minibar warm.
Review 59:A view from the balcony was great. The room was big enough. Very nice breakfast
Review 60:Being asked to pay 4 Euro for internet after spending 250 Euro for the room is unacceptable. Just add it to my room charge and make it "free." Swimming pool was filthy - filled with algae and leaves. Better off jumping in the Rhine. Junior suite was nice and large - no train noise issues with windows closed, even though tracks nearby. Bathroom had no shower - only a tub with handheld showerhead. Not a big deal and probably an American bias, but annoying. Toilet was moldy and dirty under the rim. Staff was professional and helpful, but also a bit annoyed and slightly argumentative regarding a billing question. The issue was resolved as they promised, but not without minor confrontation. This was far from a five star experience. The sincere efforts of the staff may rate three stars, but no more. The hotel seems to be resting on its location and status as "second oldest hotel in Germany" alone. Unfortunately we have lowered our standards since travelling Europe for two years, but this definitely failed to meet even our lowered expectations.
Review 61:Location was ideal for Rhine river cruises. Note that hotel is not in Rüdesheim but next town north. House furnishings and decor were unique and interesting; room decor was dated. Breakfast was ample and delicious; staff was inadequate for a "full house" and service suffered because of that.
Review 62:The WORST hotel ever. They reserved a table at the restaurant for us but when we arrived the restaurant, they told us to find another place to eat because their kitchen is already closed. The room was smaller and dirtier than it appeared on their webpage and it was very loud during the night because of the railway that runs near the hotel. This hotel is definitely overrated and we did not appreciate any of their services.(to be more precise, there was no service at all!) This hotel ruined our trip so please be careful if you are considering to stay at this hotel.
Review 63:the house keeping was chaotic no soap one day, flannels removed another day, bathroom not cleaned, towels not refreshed. etc.
Review 64:the building, the sweet staff and our room and position of the room. when I asked for something i had left behind, they were, kind efficient and really eficient in sending it to uk for me.thank you!
Review 65:The cost of connecting to wifi was far too expensive so didn't use it.we had a fabulous dinner but the dining room was empty except us and four others. The bathroom was perfect but the room was very tired.proberly not stay there again
Review 66:The staff were fine, and food of a very high standard
Review 67:I found nothing to dislike
Review 68:The fact there were few people staying and although hotel almost empty the standards of excellent service was maintained. Food was of a high order.
Review 69:Parts of the property appeared to have been let go; e.g., I almost broke my neck on the staircase because the carpet was not properly held down.
Review 70:The staff were very helpful, and the food and drink were great.
Review 71:The limited choice of dinner menu and the total lack of assistance at breakfast when asked for toast or toast making equipment. Also a very upset stomach after dinner.
Review 72:The overall ambiance of this old hotel
Review 73:The Hotel has 5 stars, Could be worth 3 stars, on those days the personal happends to smile. Missing air condition. Expensive and "complicated" WLAN
Review 74:Nice Experience to stay in such avery old Hotel
Review 75:Limited tv offerings. When will Europe get fox news instead of verypolitical cnn only? No other English channels. Why not have an Englishmovie channel or tv channel? Shower was a little difficult to get in andout of. No one to help with the luggage. Only staff at front desk whoare busy. Lugged luggage up steps and from the car parked in back! Samething on leaving. Appears these hotels have no one to help with luggage.
Review 76:Staff was very nice. Good restaurant with expensive but food you couldeat. They even cooked some delicious wiener schnitzel for us that wasnot on the menu. Breakfast was good but they could use some personalcooking like omelets or fried eggs made on the spot. Beautiful view ofthe Rhine from our junior suite. No lunch served or lighter meals.
Review 77:The hotel was very nice but we did not think it rated a 5 star.
Review 78:We had a junior suite which was very comfortable. The food in the evening was good but there wasn't a lot of choice, we ate elsewhere on 2 evenings. Breakfast, there was plenty of choice.
Review 79:The staff was about 1/2 very friendly and 1/2 not. It may be more fun to stay in Rudesheim and not Assmannshausen. Rudesheim has much more going on and although its only a 3 minute train ride away, those tickets add up!
Review 80:Very cool old hotel Very relaxing setting
Review 81:No free WiFi which is expected now. No air conditioning unless you pay for a portable unit. Poor shower. They didn't have the red wine I asked for and the waiter's recommendation was not good. Should be clear that the hotel is not in Rudesheim as people will expect it.
Review 82:We had a turret room with great views of the mountains, town and river. The hotel is old but charming. Free parking. Good breakfast buffet in quiet dining room. 0.5l beer in mini bar for only €3. 5km from Rudesheim which we didn't expect but were happy to be there.
Review 83:The hotel is next to the train line, there is a train passing almost 15minutes and the sound level is so high that sleeping at night becomesreally difficult. The hotel has no Airco so the doors can also not beclosed. Was extremely uncomfortable stay at night because of this.
Review 84:Very good location and friendly staff.
Review 85:Main Rhine railway was within easy earshot and the level crossing warnings kept going all night( but most places on the rhine are like this)
Review 86:Our suite overlooking the Rhine was lovely, the food was excellent, choice of local wines was great and breakfast even better. A hotel full of character
Review 87:I liked the location of the hotel. It's by the Rhein River and in silent location. on the back side you can watch the wineyard terasses. The staff was freindly. According to the availibility they have upgraded us to suite room. We had a great time during our stay.
Review 88:Quite far from the city center.
Review 89:Very nice building from the outside. The room is big with even bigger bathroom and modern design. It is the only hotel that offers slippers.
Review 90:We had to upgrade the room to a junior suite and of course paying the difference in price. The one we initially got was horrible and frankly I dont undrestand how they get five stars without A/C. Breakfast very poor.
Review 91:Location.
Review 92:The hotel needs some attention. The wall paper in our room was peeling in places and spotted in others, furnishings didn't seem to coordinate ie. antique like furniture with lucite end table. Wanted to open the windows but found many LARGE spiders. Privace drapers seemed like a heavy shower curtain. For the price of the hotel, I expected a more tasteful decor in the bedrooms.
Review 93:The location of the hotel is great. We had rooms that overlooked the river. The trains were heard but not enough to wake us up or ruin our stay. I loved the age of the hotel, timbered ceilings, antique furnishings and quaint exterior.
Review 94:The only possible negative is the noise from the railway behind, which I could hear as I like my window open at night.
Review 95:Wonderful junior suite, and the excellent service, in the dining room and generally.
Review 96:TV programs" Poor".... Standard dinner menu " 3 days for a same menu"....
Review 97:Hotel style, very big room, bathroom, sauna, view, calm, historical hotel
Review 98:What is not to like? This is a first class hotel, a home from home, with excellent facilities and all that at a prime location. It is just a question of finding enough reasons to return.
Review 99:We could hear the train passing by more than enough. The sound makes the room window vibrate a bit. We could also hear the noise of people talking in the hall from our bedroom, footsteps of people passing by... so it was a bit disturbing!
Review 100:That it was less than an hour drive to the airport. We had snow storm the night I stayed there. The room we stayed in was a Junior suite. It was a lovely room. We could see a nice scenery of the Rhein river which is just across the street from our room window.
Review 101:1) Suggest to make necessary refurnishment on corridor / leaders beetween 3r/2nd/1st floor ( the wall has water infiltration I think) - very bad impact for the tourist.2) The reception could / can be much more involved and/or well prepared on the "tourist activities" available on the region. Not just say: out of season we do not know!! 3) We came from Geneva. one day before i called to know how best to reach the Hotel. It has been said by taxi (aprox €80) However we discovered taht the train station was just behind or maybe up to Rudesheim; and thereafter to take a taxi. I could saved € 100 if proactive information could be given on that moment.
Review 102:We have all apreciated the excellent service provided by Mr. Caruzo, speaking various launguange, along our dinner at first night. It hasbeen also very kind the woman in charge of Breakfast to come to talkwith us on Portuguese. Very friend environment we all liked thesepersonal approach.
Review 103:Nothing to criticize!
Review 104:Wonderful suite. Real marble bathroom with ground heating, view on the Rhein. Breakfast gorgeous. Visit the different rooms: absolutely great. Only 5km from Rudesheim. Easy parking. We loved it. Definitely.
Review 105:No complaints.
Review 106:Historic hotel on the Rhine with wonderful scenery on the doorstep. Plenty of parking and Assmannshausen railway station is just a short walk away. There's a main road at the front and a railway behind, but these are minor inconveniences compared with the excellent location on the Rhine and the atmospheric interior.
Review 107:- The pillows of the bed didn't give much support. I know these things are personal and very easy to solve if you just bring your own pillow.- Just a very different minor issue, AC/DC should be played VERY LOUD and on a proper CD-player. But if you do decide to play it soft in a hotelbar , which I find very cool, than make sure that AC/DC doesn't sound like a super-mega-extended remix version. Let me explain: "I LOVE YOU DARLING, thank you for this wonderfull romantic getaway in this awesome cast..."........hi-hi-hi way way way way to to to hell hell hell hell....hell hell hell highway to hell i'm on on on on on the the the hi hi hi hi hi. Although a hotelbar that prefers to play ACDC over the usual corny hotelmusic will definitely see me again. Just fix the CD or the player.
Review 108:I would have preferred to see a wider selection of vegetarian dishes on the dinner menu The railway line behind the hotel might be seen as a problem for the few with a room overlooking the line but the double glazing is an adequate noise barrier. The front rooms overlook the river.
Review 109:It sits in an enviable position alongside the river overlooking a castle. The historical 16th/17th century architecture and baronial impression remains although up to date facilities have been provided carefully and well. There is an outside dining terrace overlooking the river and also a superior internal restaurant retaining the period features. Wonderful breakfast buffet!
Review 110:We like to have coffee and tea facilities in the room so would like torecommend this to be added.
Review 111:This hotel is amazing and we are so blessed to have had the opportunityto stay in it. The building is over 450 years old and is very luxurious. The staff are so friendly and helpful and the area and views are fromromantic movies. You even have a castle just accross the Rhein to golook at and in view of the hotel. It is surrounded by the vineyards andthere there are many restaurants along the road. Try the wacky lookingone as its amazing food. Furthermore Rudesheim is 5 minute drive or ashort ferry or take the cablecars along the vineyards and walk along thestreets of this traditional German town with loads of places to eat, drink and shop. The hotel has a little museum and you feel like you arestepping into time and luxury. The breakfast is wonderful and spoilt forchoice. Beds are comfortable. The restaurant is very luxurious so makesure to dress smartly for dinner and some people even dressed forbreakfast however we wore jeans and converse. We are already planningour trip back. There are ample free parking as well.
Review 112:The entire river-front strip of hotels is nested right between a railway & a busy road, river, and other railway on the far side of the river. I suspect they may never make enough money again to be able to restore the previous splendour. But we slept OK after selecting the more expensive doubles on the river side (thanks TripAdvisor reviewer! and fortunate we didn't need the windows open since it was cool enough.) However, it couldn't be that hard for a 5 star hotel to make a king size bed without having the split between mattresses in the middle, very uncomfortable! There were other even older hotels further up the hill that might have been a better bet noise wise, especially in summer.
Review 113:I was recommended this hotel by an American friend with a young boy who stayed here and were blown away by the European charm. Indeed, almost everyone in Assmannshausen seems to be elderly American tourists on a European tour, but Hotel Krone also had a fair number of Germans due to its restaurant (some business people) and taking their elderly grandparents out. There was also a party of affluent bikers having a birthday party and a Chinese group while we were there. The over the top kitsch was fun, the building is palatial, and there's a pleasant walk over the hill through woods and vineyards past monuments to 19th century wars to an even more kitschy town that kind of reminded me of Whistler in the unremitting tourist orientation, but of course with German & wine stuff going on.
Review 114:Warning!! Hotel is 30m from railroad, and trains are passing by on ahigh speed each 5-30 min. You hear them even if your good plastic windowis closed. Your body is vibrating.... Beds are older then my grandma.High prices in a restaurant. And white wine there was extremely cold. After 22.00 you could not find free places on the parking.
Review 115:Rather good room equipment, excellent breakfast, positioned directly atRhein, sufficient room service, free parking
Review 116:Although there is a beautiful grand piano in the lounge area not one person came into the room while I was there. Although the staff are excellent and the surroundings superb it was souless. Perhaps the 'season' had finished ?
Review 117:We had a beautiful demi-tester bed, room with balcony overlooking the Rhine which was a short distance away across the road. Tastefully furnished with antiques and a lovely bathroom but actually not much room to put anything. The hall, dining room and lounge are quite dark and furnished in keeping with its heritage, heavy drapes, lots of history recorded in pictures on display which is interesting as Wagner wrote some music here. The grounds are well kept. We were in an adjoining house which was no problem as the pool was in this area.
Review 118:Price was high. It was acceptable for the room charges, but the diningroom was way too expensive!
Review 119:The old-world atmosphere and beautiful antiques.
Review 120:Beds were a little firm. Breakfast buffet was replenished in a relaxed fashion. Neither of these issues reduced our enjoyment of our stay.
Review 121:Perfect location for a relaxed weekend away. Two excellent restaurants. Wonderful breakfast buffet.
Review 122:Our room was too hot, and no good airflow so quite difficult to sleep.Bed not too comfortable (too soft matrasses (all hotels in Germany???)Main railway line running behind hotel - very noisy even at 03.00 and05.00 trains rushing through, hotel can't help that, but it disturbed anight's sleep - ask for rooms on the ruver side of the hotel, then noisewill be reduced.
Review 123:Good staff, friendly, helpful, good Englsh spoken. Lovely, romantic type, old hunting lodge styled buildings.
Review 124:Would have eaten there in the evening, but a little too expensive. So we went into town. Reception for the television was very poor, bad picture. Area around the pool needs updating, looks outdated and very boring, and needs to be more inviting. We would stay again.
Review 125:good service from the staff, and location is nice and quiet. very clean.
Review 126:Although we booked a deluxe room we didn't have a balcony and could only enjoy our Rhine view when standing up. The trains are noisy but we found if you drink enough wine they don't bother you so much!
Review 127:Beautiful old building with fantastic views of the Rhine. The first time we've been offered sparkling wine with our breakfast! Loved the marble bathroom and sumptuous interior design.
Review 128:From the moment we arrived we found the Krone Assmannshausen to be an amazing experience. Parking was available and easy to find, the upgraded room absolutely beautiful, the view from the balcony of the Rhine and valley breathtaking. In addition, the service and dining in the restaurant was superb. We will hope to return one day and couldn't recommend the Krone Assmannshausen highly enough. 10 out of 10.
Review 129:No free internet access. No free wifi. Wifi very expensive. Staff was not very precise about inforations on distances, driving/walking time to visit places. The railway is very close to the train and it is a bit noisy when one leaves the windows open.
Review 130:The hotel is very stylish. Very large room and bathroom. Excellent breakfast. Staff very friendly. Well located at the heart of the romantic rhein area.
Review 131:Room needs modernization; bathroom renovation, modern television, etc. Rooms facing the vineyards are right next to the train tracks. Windows keep most noise out but not all.
Review 132:Fantastic atmosphere and setting. Great breakfast and facilities.
Review 133:Unfriendliness of receptionist at check-in. We ate one evening dinner inthe beautiful dinning room but were treated rudely by the head waiterwho was overbearing and insulting.
Review 134:Veiw of Rhine. Great breakfast.
Review 135:Only thing we would say is that possibly one may need a car in this location as it is not in the heart of Rudesheim. Otherwise all excellent. Congratulations to all concerned at the Hotel Krone.
Review 136:We just loved everything about this beautiful old Hotel. We had a lovely balcony which overlooked the Rhine one way and a mountainside with grapevines the other way. Our room was beautifully decorated in antique taste with a canopy queen size bed which was so comfortable and a beautiful marble bathroom. Just loved the interior at the Hotel Krone. We did not eat there in the evening, as I prefer vegetarian dishes, so we went to a hotel very nearby. The train does go by fairly closely but the windows all have double glaze and we had no trouble sleeping at all. Boats which cruise down the Rhine depart directly over the road. The breakfast was by far the most expansive and superior we had experienced in our 5 week trip, even had our orange juice squeezed by the staff. All staff were highly professional, friendly and helpful and spoke excellent English. This rates tops with us, only wish we had stayed at this Hotel for 3 nights. Lynn & Ray, Perth Western Australia
