Reviews for Hotel Montermoso

Review 1:Room was cold, only aircon which did not get it warm enough, bathroom was nice and warm however.

Review 2:Great place to stay when driving between north and south of Spain

Review 3:Bed was a bit small for a double

Review 4:Location as we travelling from malaga to bordeaux Very pet friendly Really welcoming staff Easy parking Nice good value restaurant in the hotel

Review 5:Nothing

Review 6:Arrived on Jan 5th in gentle snowfall. The hotel was beautifully lit and very festive. A pageant of the 3 kings was on display in the hotel. Good food in the restaurant and very reasonably priced.

Review 7:We love this hotel it takes dogs and is so lovely to them although we didn't take a dog this year we still go for this hotel it is so nice ,internal decoration is great.

Review 8:As a dog friendly hotel (I had no dog) I was not pleased with barking dog in next room at midnight. Also room cold on arrival, it took 3 hours for air con heat to warm room up.

Review 9:Nice hotel for stopover. Restaurant reasonable value.

Review 10:this is a great over night stop on way to the costas and to santander.pet friendly with plenty of space to exercise dog safely.will def stop here again,.

Review 11:Great value hotel, with good food and conveniently located just off autopista. Good size rooms - great if you have pets. Beautiful walks near property - it's surrounded by vineyards and forests. And did I mention the local wine...we have stayed here twice now and will certainly stay again.

Review 12:Bathroom towels a bit on the thin side. Sachets of shower gel not quite large enough (I'm small person by the way!). If you are a Brit, take your own travel kettle, mugs etc as there are no tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms, which is not unusual in Spain. I felt the restaurant staff could be a bit more cheerful!

Review 13:Very close to the motorway. Excellent for an overnight stop on the way to Bilbao. Friendly staff on reception. Nice, clean well-furnished room with 2 wonderfully comfy single beds pushed together to form a double, each with its own bedding. Wonderful if you have a partner who steals the bedclothes! Nice, clean, smart bathroom with large powerful shower. Very quiet hotel. No outside noise. Air conditioning/heating in room.Hotel has a 'baroque' feel to it in the common areas but the rooms are modern in style. Good choice of food in the restaurant.

Review 14:Perfect location - just off motorway. We travelled 770 miles from Dieppe for this stay which was planned. Menu good in Restaurant.Would definitely stay again.

Review 15:Nothing no complaints at all.

Review 16:Conveniently located off motorway but no traffic noise . Pets made very welcome. Family run hotel very friendly and helpful staff will make it a regular stop off point when travelling back to Santander for ferry.

Review 17:attitude of staff on arrival and leaving no information pack in room a/c / heater didn't work.. On checking my bank statement I was charged TWICE. not impressed with room. won't go there again

Review 18:the morning I left

Review 19:Don't expect to be served before the Guardia Civil even if you were at the bar first!!

Review 20:Convenient stopover en route to ferry. Staff were helpful. Food very good and regional wine excellent. Very dog friendly.

Review 21:Dinner in the restaurant can be very expensive. The water in the shower goes from scalding hot to freezing cold then back to scalding hot. You have no control over it.

Review 22:The hotel is excellant, the rooms are very good, good very comfy bed. Excellant for a stopover to and from the ferry. This must be one of the best small hotels in Spain.

Review 23:this was the 5th or 6th stay at hotel on way to and from Almeria. We commented on state of crockery in dinning room at breakfast. On our return journey we were confronted by same chipped crockery(not pleasant to eat from). This was pointed out to Management, but obviously they did not see the point of using chipped crockery !!!!!

Review 24:Nothing really to dislike.

Review 25:It was a overnight stay on our way to Santander and easy access from motorway to hotel. We enjoyed our evening meal with a glass or two of wine. The staff were vey pleasant.

Review 26:The hotel was easy to find just off the motorway, we arrived late and the staff cooked us a light meal allowed the dogs in the bar which really helped to settle them the room was large very clean and looked like it had recently been refurbished. The breakfast was good. All the staff were very friendly

Review 27:Only criticism was the breakfast which was very basic. However at the price - cannot really grumble.

Review 28:Very convenient to the main Madrid - Burgos road but no traffic noise. Good parking facilities. Very clean and comfortable. Choice of Menu del Dia or a la carte in the evening. Very good choice and food was excellent. Overall very good value for money.Would stay here again.

Review 29:The only thing I can fault is the restaurant doesn't start to serve evening meal until 8.30pm it's to late for us to eat.

Review 30:Lovely Hotel. Right next to motorway. Take pets.

Review 31:Not much to see in Aranda. Penafiel nearby is far more interesting

Review 32:Easy to find and a convenient stop over off the A1 en route to or from Santander and Bilboa.

Review 33:Had the potential to be noisy (not on our visit) with wooden floors and large parties. Flaky wifi.

Review 34:Ideally situated between the ferry ports of northern Spain and the sunshine of the south, just moments off the motorway. No concerns with leaving some luggage in car whilst parked. Classic Spanish building with ultra modern room decor.

Review 35:Dinner wasn't served until after 8.30 which is a little late for us, also for what we ordered we felt that it was very expensive.

Review 36:Excellent for a stopover heading to and from the ferry. Room were of a good standard and clean.

Review 37:Very good stopover for the Bilbao and Santander ferries. Excellent pet friendly hotel with nice dog walking areas. Lovely friendly staff always smiling and helpful. We would highly recommend this hotel to others.

Review 38:Restaurant did not open until 8:30, some hours after most of thetravellers looking to eat and retire before moving on had arrived.Breakfast was OK, but croissants like cardboard and obviously bought in pastries - still in wrappers. Compared to the competition 6 kms south, quite poor

Review 39:The Hotel is nicely appointed, though looking tired

Review 40:Only small criticism was some of the bar and restaurant staff did not seem too friendly but doesn't put us off recommending, probably more used to Spanish clients.

Review 41:Receptionist very pleasant and helpful. Location on route to southern Spain excellent. Food good quality and choice.

Review 42:Nothing to dislike.

Review 43:Elegant hotel. Friendly staff. Great dinner 3 course with glass of wine 16 euros! Lovely bedrooms and bathrooms. Have stayed here at least 5 times. Always good. Easy to find just off motorway. Very pet friendly. Great value.

Review 44:No wifi in room 53. It was the main reason to book this hotel, so I was not best pleased!

Review 45:Really close to exit on motorway when travelling from Spain to France.

Review 46:The Hotel was so convenient to the motorway together with very friendly staff that we stayed twice. Would definitely recommend it to others and would stay there again.

Review 47:Nothing much

Review 48:This was the second time I have stayed here, it is clean and offered great value for money. Rooms where of a good size well decorated and clean.

Review 49:The view from our room overlooked some tin roofed buildings but did not detract from our good experience at the hotel.

Review 50:Very accessible from the main motorway from Santander to the Med Coast. The rooms were very spacious and furnished to a very high standard. Staff were very friendly. Welcome drink and chocolate was delivered to our room on arrival. The bar serves ice cold San Miguel in frosted glasses!! Excellent wine selection in the Restaurant.

Review 51:The level of service at this hotel was second to none. Family run ..which is a rare thing these days. Experienced lunch and dinner - great quality and served with a smile. They served up the best black pudding that my boyfriend has every had and he has eaten at most of the best restaurants in the world. Spitting distance from the motorway and great value for money. Decor is dated, but high quality.

Review 52:We were with grandchildren but no menu items catered for children by portion, price or choice. We were in a suite of two rooms, the children's room had aircon, ours did not

Review 53:The whole ambience is superb

Review 54:Rooms need a good update. Looking and feeling a little tired.

Review 55:Excellent location just off the main Madrid, Burgos autovia. Very easy to find. Good receptionist. Arrived at 12:00 room made available immediately. A good bar which serves a great steak sandwich for lunch. The evening set menu was tremendous value for money and mos t enjoyable. Altogether a very good place to stop.

Review 56:Not much of a view from the window as it was obscured by a roof.

Review 57:Upgraded to a large room with a huge bed. Spacious. Close to Autovia but you could not hear it.

Review 58:Bedroom decor was a bit dated and the beds could have been more secure - wobbly headboards

Review 59:Location just off the motorway but far enough not to be disturbed by it - literally 2 mins

Review 60:The food was expensive and very basic. Plenty of parking but not secure so had to take all the luggage to the room.

Review 61:The location was very good if you are travelling to/from Santander with a pet.

Review 62:breakfast not included in price, rooms bright green red and white -art deco- a bit garish ,but very clean.bar closed quite early for spain

Review 63:lovely hotel ,convenient location just off motorway ,pleasant staff ,good food

Review 64:Amenities slightly limited because of huge wedding party but no noise problems despite apparent "rave-up" on the Saturday night we stayed. Breakfast limited but inexpensive.

Review 65:Welcoming and helpful staff, quiet, comfortable big bed, easy to find and excellent location for those en-route to France. Plenty of convenient parking despite huge wedding party. Dining menu very good quality at reasonable prices.

Review 66:No bad experience at all unless you call stair carpet fraying a little at the edges a bad experience!!

Review 67:Travelling to the Northern ports this is an excellent stopover. Close to the A1 with very friendly helpful staff throughout. Very little English but they make up for it in polite enthusiasm. Restaurant menu good and full of Spanish charm, excellent will use again.

Review 68:Liked everything

Review 69:The location is perfect for a stopover or as a base for visiting the area. Very grand entrance and a dining room to equal a parador with the service to go with it. Gardens to relax in and a cafeteria for snacks and drinks. We were made to feel really welcome by all staff.

Review 70:Hotel was used on route to Santander Ferry. Was excellently located just off the motorway. Staff were very efficient and friendly. Room we had was large and very comfortable. Only complaint was on booking out, no one was on reception and it took about five minutes to find someone, but that would be nit picking as they say.

Review 71:Breakfast - Very Spain. We stopped after an hours drive. It is what it is and would not stop me from going back. 3rd visit

Review 72:Easy to find, good sized room, comfortable. Good dinner. Not cheap but not over expensive for what you get overall. Staff were great.

Review 73:Just a one night Stay on Both out and return Journeys , Staff Super Welcome , Room 1St Class , Restaurant efficient and food good , Catering for me a Coeliac. added bonus good free parking.

Review 74:The air conditioning unit took a long time to reduce the room temperature. Breakfast was limited no hot food offered.

Review 75:Very warm welcome by staff and a chilled drink was very welcome. The evening menu had a good choice and the food quality was very good.

Review 76:We liked the spaciousness and friendliness of the hotel, like a home away from home. Good location on the highway, we wanted to have a place from which we could easily drive to the Madrid airport the next day. We also loved visiting the town of Aranda de Duero which is very lively and historically interesting

Review 77:The hotel was off the main road and easy to find. Very Spanish which is what we go to Spain for. The decor was really lovely. Very good parking. We eat in the restaurant and the meal was very nice.

Review 78:They didn't seem to have a snack menu at the bar but after speaking to the staff we managed to get a suitable snack.

Review 79:We stayed in a recently refurbished room which had an individual air conditioning unit which was great as the temperature was in the high 30's outside.

Review 80:staff were excellent room was well air conditioned which travelling with pets was important & good walking area around hotel for dogs highly recommend to anyone travelling to or from the ports

Review 81:The hotel has a restaurant which is very pricey. We chose a bottle of wine, the waiter poured us a glass each then took the bottle away. When we queried it he looked sheepish and said he 'forgot'! If we hadn't said anything I expect we would have been charged for the whole bottle. A small thing but made a difference. Also the hotel is not near any other restaurants so there is no choice unless you want to drive into town which we didn't as had been on road all day.

Review 82:Spacious, clean rooms. Easy to find, just off motorway, on way to/from ferry ports. Most staff excellent.

Review 83:nothing really to say except that maybe a little more care with cleaning in difficult area's as there was a lot of dust under bed and on tops of bedhead mirrors etc

Review 84:very nice spacious room with nice open views. spacious communal rooms well decorated parking good.decorations very nice throughout the hotel.Bathroom really nice clean and well eqipt

Review 85:There was nothing we didn't like. Some of the furnishings had seen better days but it didn't seem to matter, and certainly didn't spoil our stay.

Review 86:The hotel is near to the motorway and in the budget price range. The staff were friendly and attentive (the receptionist even saw it was my birthday from my passport). The room was and clean, well decorated and equipped, and there was no noise from the motorway (secondary glazing). We ate in the bar where we were well looked after.

Review 87:We booked this hotel for the last night of our travels, before returning our car to the Madrid airport the next morning, and it was a very good choice. It’s just off the highway, about an hour south of Burgos, but far enough to have no highway noise. The rooms are large and very comfortable. The restaurant appears to be a local favorite for family celebrations. We checked in, drove about 40 minutes to Santo Domingo de Silos to hear evening vespers in Gregorian chant, and then came back for dinner at the hotel. We had the roast lamb fixed price menu for 2 for a total of $70 euros—expensive and honestly not that good, but talked to other diners having the 15 or 16 euro meal who liked it a lot. It was very convenient for us to have a restaurant in the hotel for that evening. The hotel is family-run and the son of the family, Inigo, who has taken over the management since his father died, is very nice and friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our brief stay.

Review 88:Door handle in the bathroom was broken and basic breakfast but still good.

Review 89:Convenient just off motorway. Great staff...good wine and the lamb is amazing. Good value for money.

Review 90:fantastic location, just off the motorway. Staff are always so friendly and helpful. Our Dog is always made welcome. It is always a pleasure to stay here.

Review 91:Nothing really

Review 92:We have used this hotel numerous times for a stopover on our trip from Southern Spain to the Bilbao ferry. It is ways good and being pet friendly is a great help.

Review 93:An experience but on our way back home a huge Gypsy Wedding took over the hotel. Lots of noise and still clapping and singing outside till 5.20am so hardly any sleep and dogs disturbed as so much noise. On the plus side no trouble no fighting just everyone having a good old celebration!

Review 94:Family run traditional hotel. Beautiful room on ground floor. Always a warm welcome and loved our two little Yorkies who love staying at this hotel. This May was our fifth stay here. Overnight stops as travelling to the Costa Del Sol.

Review 95:Meals so-so, typical spanish hotel fare. Dissappointed to discover pets allowed in rooms. Dog hair all over the bedroom rug, so despite the request for 'feather free bedding' due to allergy, got a room used as a kennel! Also charged more than Booking.com price - they broke it down to room, breakfast and then added tax, so about 7Euro more.

Review 96:Comfy large bed, safe parking, english spoken at reception.

Review 97:We were very happy with everything we experienced at the hotel - can find nothing negative to say.

Review 98:My father & I stayed here with our cat en route to the Bilbao ferry port. The staff were excellent & friendly. It is in a great location, just off the motorway & the room was very clean & comfortable. Our cat was made very welcome by the staff also. We will stay there again on our next ferry crossing & would highly recommend the hotel.

Review 99:Friendly, helpful staff. Rooms large and spotless with everything you need. Huge comfortable beds, great showers. Bar, dining room offering excellent meals and a generous, cold buffet breakfast.

Review 100:While I could access the network I couldn't get on the internet, possible because it was open with no security and my own security would not allow it.

Review 101:Good sized, spotless rooms in the hotel directly off the motorway.

Review 102:We were only able to get wifi in the common areas. It was unavailable in the room.

Review 103:We particularly appreciated the welcome, the location, nice meal in the restaurant and the fact that they accept dogs.

Review 104:We arrived later than expected due toma ferry delay. The reception staff were friendly and welcoming. As it was late we declined the restaurant but opted for drinks and snacks in the bar which were perfect. The hotel is a little dated and typically Spanish but charming nonetheless.

Review 105:The garden is only for weddings and other events. Not ready for daily use. That was a bit dissapointing and should be clearly stated in the descriptio.

Review 106:Staff and food.

Review 107:Unfortunately the restaurant doesn't open until 8.30 at night, poor selection of snacks available prior to it opening.

Review 108:Overall very comfortable, nice room.

Review 109:This was our third visit, and that should suggest that there is little or nothing to dislike.

Review 110:The new addition of a multi-choice Menu del Dia to the regular menu is excellent and good value.

Review 111:I did not get my wi if to work but think this was my fault

Review 112:This hotel offers modern comforts with a typical Spanish feel. We asked for room service as we did not want to leave our dogs. We were provided with an excellent supper. This was our 4th visit and we hope to be travelling this route again in September and will make this one of our stopping points

Review 113:Food AAAwwwful and expensive. They do not serve a la carte Food butcharge a la carte prices. Never again will we eat here. Bring own foodor eat elsewhere

Review 114:Easy access to motorway Rooms are very nice

Review 115:I do not like the fact that you cannot get any food before 8.30 pm. Even the bar snacks are unavailable until that time. I find this unacceptable and we may choose another hotel next time.

Review 116:Very comfortable rooms.

Review 117:Rooms were fabulous, spacious and furnished very well. Staff made you feel welcome straight-away. Welcomed our 2 dogs. Vry good buffet breakfast included in price.

Review 118:the hotel position is ideal for an overnight stop if travelling to the costa deal sol. Very clean rooms, dog friendly, safe car park and the restaurant has a good variety of food to choose from. Recommend the Garlic Soup. I always stop here.

Review 119:when you are traveling from the south coast of spain totally unacceptable you can not get anything hot or cold to eat until 8.30pm, especially when one of the party are type 1 diabetic. fortunately the lady on reception manage to arrange a sandwich, well done her

Review 120:lovely hotel

Review 121:Breakfast (continental style) could be a little better.

Review 122:We have stayed here several times before on the way to & from Orihuela Costa & the ports of Bilbao & Santander. It is ideally situated about 400mts from the route you take. Warm, clean, comfortable, free wifi & parking on site. Excellent restaurant with a la carte or menu del dia. Selection of good local Ribiera de Duero wines for sale in reception.

Review 123:As with many Spanish hotels the restaurant does not open for dinner 'till 8:30pm which is a little late for us. Wifi was unreliable.

Review 124:Very comfortable rooms, tastefully furnished throughout. Good value for money. Great restaurant with an excellent menu. Staff pleasant and helpful.

Review 125:Closeness to highway. Large room. Rustic individuality of the place. It was a little tired in places but it was clean the staff were great. Would use again.

Review 126:The location - 500 mtrs off the route from Costa Blanca South to Bilbao/Santander or back. Warm, (in February) comfy, good food. Breakfast is getting better. We have stayed before & will do so again.

Review 127:The miserable man behind the bar. Also it is a shame that the restaurant dosen't open untill 2030. Menu looked good.

Review 128:Check in very good, one gentleman spoke excellent english. Room was very comfortable, bed good and bathroom.
