Reviews for City Lounge Hotel Oberhausen

Review 1:Staff has no manners, unfriendly, unable to speak proper German, English. Father and son (?) weren't very clever. We left our suitcases behind the desk, but we didn't feel comfortable about that. Cold shower! We complained two times. Staff denied! No apologies. No fresh air in the hotel. No new towels. Beds weren't made next day. Lamp was broken in the room. Breakfast room was too cold.

Review 2:Location is good. Breakfast and beds were okay.

Review 3:the Wi-Fi was peak,

Review 4:The Staff was friendly & Breakfast including good options , the hotel location was good as very near to Train Station 10m. walking , also it is in central markets & shopping,

Review 5:There are very strict time schedule. We came 5 minutes past 10 p.m. and had to pay additional 15 Euros per person for late check in. I am booking.com genius member and have a late check-in privilege, but they didn't care about it.

Review 6:The room was clean and location is good, not too far from the train station (about 15 min walk).

Review 7:Lobby had a strange smell when we left on sunday (could be incidental of course). neighbourhood is not so quiet when the bars close. could also be incidental of course

Review 8:great hotel, friendly staff, clean. value for money.

Review 9:It was the fair trip so the location is acceptable and the hotel has a parking lot (for the bus as well). Total value for money - comfortable not oversized though room, friendly staff, good variety of goods for breakfast. As i ve been only sleeping and having breakfast at the hotel, couldnt enjoy all the facilities could be possible. The room was clean and been cleaned daily.

Review 10:Neighborhood was a little shady looking with bars and interesting characters hanging about, but still felt safe enough with our 2 older kids. The hotel locks up in the evening and you have a code to get in and out. Entrance to private parking area behind hotel is "VERY NARROW"... be careful when entering and exiting. We had to tuck our mirrors in.

Review 11:The rooms are small and sparse, but the price is great for the area. We just needed a bed to sleep in for the night so it was good. We didn't eat breakfast there as it looked like there wasn't a great selection and there are a couple of cafes just a block down the street on the Marktstraße. We ate at Cafe Bauer. Lots of shopping and restaurants on the Marktstraße. We didn't use the trains or trams but they are close (Staff told us 10 minute walk to train station). We had our car and there is a private parking area behind the hotel. Very close (10 min drive) to the Arena, Mall and Legoland Park area. Our first room had a major water leak in the ceiling of the bathroom and so they moved us to another room the next day.

Review 12:A very cozy hotel in a very good central location. Warm welcome, sufficient breakfast, reasonably sized rooms. Very nice backyard terrace for smokers. Great value for money.

Review 13:I booked the hotel on the website. It instructed me that I will need to pay when I arrived instead paying it in internet directly. So I booked it with my credit card but I also checked that I will pay it with my debit (Dutch) card as my credit card have a limited payment. When I arrived at the hotel, I couldn't pay with my debit card. They didn't allow me to pay it with my debit card. So I had to go out in the middle of night to get some cash but I couldn't find any ATM as it was first time to be in Oberhausen. I had to go to my friend's hotel to borrow his credit card so I could finish the payment. It was extremely inconvenient as I had expected to pay it with cash or debit card. The information on the website was not reciprocal at the hotel and it happened in the middle of night...

Review 14:Staff were very pleasant and the room was clean with a comfy bed. Had everything I needed for an overnight stay and it is only a 10 minute walk to the central station..

Review 15:they asked for EURO 70.- on tghis Saturday- the next day they sked for EURO 50.-..the hotel was half empty,,long walking distance from the train station small samll tiny room reception only open for a couple of hours..and this in a 4 star-category-hotel !!!

Review 16:The best adjective to describe this hotel is "sad". The interior is grim and grey, and there was no hot water in the shower. The radiators did not warm the room. The internet/WiFi was not functioning. The instructions how to connect to the internet, were not user-friendly. This is the first time I am complaining on "booking.com". But this 1-night at the hotel made me feel miserable. I think it was once an apartment building, converted to a hotel. The result is the shower is too big, a long and grey corridor leads to the bedroom. There was a lamp on the desk, but no electric socket to connect it. The TV is connected to cable or satellite, but there wasn't even one English speaking channel (CNN, BBC, FOX etc.). We paid 99 Euro for this room, breakfast NOT included. We travel around the world, and have been to hotels and "zimmers". I don't think the immigrants outside (the hotel) would have stayed there.

Review 17:The first room given to me was barren, with a bunk bed that I coudln't imagine sleeping on. There was also a sign outside that showed that my room is a fire escape route. The room was clearly not prepared. In the staircase, a handyman apparently left a toilet and his tools. The whole hotel has a slightly mouldy smell, which wasn't too bad at the beginning, but really annoyed me after one night of sleep. The chamber door doesn't block the sound of the outside - every time someone moves in the corridor, I had the impression that he was right in my room. It was very cold, and although the heater became very hot, it didn't heat up the room well - maybe because there was a cupboard that blocked off half of the heater. Overall, this is really bad value for one 90€ (!) night.

Review 18:After I complained about the unacceptable room, I promptly got switched to an acceptable room with no further quarrel or hesitation. The hotel is overall clean. The preson at the counter was reasonably friendly.

Review 19:It's a bit far from the Centro. Not really a bad point as there are buses and trams everywhere, but to be noted if you want somewhere right in town.

Review 20:That the staff were friendly and helpful. I had no German but they were excellent in understanding my award winning series of mimes. Lovely spot. I would recommend anyone travelling to Oberhausen to stay here.

Review 21:-Parking spot was horrible. stupidly small entrance where you have to have your sidemirrors closed down. rest of it was just potholes in the road and rough gravel. - person at desk didn't speak english decently even though it was advertised as english speaking too. -Maestro card didn't work. had to pay with visa. thank god I had it on me or I wouldnt of been able to pay. -asked for late checkout since I was going to a conference there. had to ask somebody in the morning(a big guy). just decided to leave in the morning and put everything in the car and keep the car parked - No fire detectors in the room. safety is kinda bad. -the pillows in our bed had dirt stains on them. -windows are so thin that anybody even talking calmly comes through let alone a car. pretty hard to fall asleep. - minor annoyance was that the fridge wasn't turned on so our drinks were hot since the fridge wasn't cold. -only one TV while there were two bedrooms. -heaters were all turned off so the room was cold when we came in. annoying to come into a cold room after a 3 hour drive. they knew we were coming they could of atleast turned on the heating. in general I would DEFINITELY not recommend this hotel. especially for the price we paid(130 euro). I won't be coming here every again and I regret throwing away so much money since all the hotels around it were fully booked.
