Reviews for Gran Hotel Benahavis SPA
Review 1:Would prefer to see Pools being maintained rather than being held in a state of disrepair.
Review 2:As above particularly the staff who appear to be permanent which makes for a friendly atmosphere & experience.
Review 3:Spacious room and extremely comfortable bed - the best I have ever slept in, in a hotel. Helpfull and friendly staff. Food of a high standard and value for money, especially the 3 course menu of the day.
Review 4:1) The decor in our room was a little tired/dated - could welcome a blast of colour and modernisation. 2) The breakfast was both continental and full English - satisfactory. The dining area lacked ambience, perhaps some background music and improved lighting would significantly enhance this area.
Review 5:1) Very professional and welcoming, helpful and friendly Team - Thank You! 2) The location of the Hotel 3) The two pool areas are very attractive
Review 6:Dinner dance turkey dinner was not good quality.
Review 7:The beds were comfortable, the rooms were spacious ( poolside bungalow) with tea&coffee making facilities. The waiters and front desk staff were friendly & helpfu& spoke English. The buffet breakfast was good.
Review 8:This time we had no view, but we did book a standard and for the price we paid not to be expected if a view is important to you upgrade your room because the countryside and grounds are impressive.
Review 9:The impressive palatial architecture everything Is grand and immaculately clean. Our room was huge and airy. Comfortable beds and sitting area. Exceptional value.
Review 10:Breakfast was varied. The cold selections were good, but the hot, cooked selections were not fresh and had gone cold on both days of our stay.
Review 11:The room was large ,airy and very comfortable. We also enjoyed the spa and the bar.
Review 12:Remains of toothpaste in bathroom, shabby overall impression, hotel needs immediate renovation. Very poor spa facilities, bubble bath with no pressure, cold water. Outside pool section was closed.
Review 13:The nearby small village was interesting, but very expensive to eat out. Hotel rooms are spacious, that's about all.
Review 14:The food was fresh and very good ,the lady serving us was lovely ,nothing was to much trouble. The deluxe double was amazing, clean comfortable and amazing value.
Review 15:The hotel is getting tired, some of the bathrooms need updating. The shower cabinet had black mould and should have been resealed with new silicon sealant.
Review 16:This our 3rd stay at this hotel and generally it is in a stunning location with great facilities. The buffet breakfast is always plentiful and fulfilling with lovely staff.
Review 17:The bathroom was very smelly, bed had a whole in it and room clean but a lot of things are old and can be replaced.
Review 18:Great people, good food, breakfast and buffet really nice.
Review 19:SPA incl. fitness opens late, closes early.
Review 20:Great location. If you are looking for a quiet place and beautiful surroundings, that's the place. Far from the sea, long and narrow but beautiful serpentine leads to Benahavis. Over 20 restaurants/ cafes within walking distance from the hotel. Nice SPA, small fitness room. Breakfast is the same everyday but good.
Review 21:The weather turned whilst we were there and we experienced the worse thunder storm ever !
Review 22:Authentic details, quiet location, great location near a lovely village full of amazing restaurants
Review 23:I think there may have been a problem with the drains as there was a bad smell. It wasn't there on my previous visit and would not stop me from booking again.
Review 24:I liked the bed and the room size was great too.
Review 25:Spacious but dated rooms. Carpet in the corridor BUT you can hear a lot of noise from other rooms. The door made an awful noise ... don't they have WD40 in Spain? Silly long pillows!!
Review 26:Nice semi-rural escape from the Costa, but just 10 mins away. A large hotel with nice communal areas and a relaxed vibe. The staff were very friendly. Decent breakfast, which is rare for Spain!
Review 27:A lot of noise from the wedding party Try to avoid dates when there is a function as the staff do not require them to be quiet for guests and also the outside swimming pool was closed during the function
Review 28:Nice room
Review 29:Thought the buffet was a little disappointing in the one evening we ate at the hotel although the breakfasts were good with plenty of choice.
Review 30:Spa was excellent as were the pool and communal areas.
Review 31:the checking staff are lack of service passion. They are prker face. They didn't provide any useful information. They didn't tell us when the SPA will close. When we asked where we park our car, the girl gave me a very negative answer.
Review 32:Nil -
Review 33:next to a playground of screaming kids, poor/slow internet connection, room service takes forever to answer, there are some serious health and safety issues with the sliding doors and windows being fingertip guillotines because there are no safety back stops fitted. The food is generally awful, the full english will make you want to throw up just looking at it.
Review 34:Picturesque setting
Review 35:Breakfast service very poor , standard of cleanliness not up to sctatch , rooms and pool areas dissappointing stay when could be so great beautiful traditional furnishings.
Review 36:Suite was spacious, easy walk to Benehavis village reataurants and nice scenic walks
Review 37:Room service take forever to answer. It is next to a childrens playground so be prepared to listen to screaming kids as a background noise Smoking room I was told to smoke on the balcony. Warning: Do not shut the door behind you or you will be locked out on the balcony unable to get back in.. Also be VERY careful when opening the windows or balcony doors. Do not put your fingers in the recessed handles to slide the doors and windows open as my room had no 'stops' for the door/window slide and so the recessed handles become finger tip traps/crushers. Internet is very very slow but many places in spain don't even have internet!
Review 38:Picturesque setting.
Review 39:No bad experience but poolside bar menu could have been a bit more varied, we have been going to hotel for 5 years now and has remained the same, having said that the food you do get is very good.
Review 40:booked double and on arrival told only twin breakfast worst I have had in 4 star hotel and I travel all time for my job. 3rd trip to this hotel and it will be my last.
Review 41:some staff at reception and also breakfast need customer service training. Not 4 star service even though classed as 4 star hotel. No complimentary water or glasses for water in room. Non slip internal bath mat not available. AC fixed at 19 degrees and not possible to change it!
Review 42:Lovely building and swimming pools, food in restaurant
Review 43:Dirty cups & glasses left in our room for days minimal coffee & tea sachets left had to keep asking also we paid to upgrade to a suite which stated robes would b included but there were none when we asked they said they would send some but we never got them I thought overall the service was poor
Review 44:Great location friendly staff
Review 45:Guests smoking on nearby tables in the courtyard and swimming pool area.
Review 46:Lovely swimming pools. Very relaxed atmosphere everywhere. Lovely peaceful feel. Good quality everywhere - the furnishings, fountains etc
Review 47:The hotel needs updating. The bathroom had mold on the tiles and the bath was stained. The bedrooms look tired and are quite drab - an old lady badly in need of a makeover
Review 48:The beautiful location. A real chill out away from the hassle of f daily life.
Review 49:Two minor points - room could have had a bidet & WiFi could have been better in some areas such as in the room.
Review 50:Cleanliness, comfortable room, nice pool area & bar/restaurant. Excellent staff.
Review 51:The Hotel could do with a touch of paint, our bedroom had a few wires exposed around the sockets, the bathroom looked a bit tired with chipped tiles.
Review 52:The staff were very friendly, polite and extremely helpful. The food at Dinner and breakfast was excellent. The Spa was lovely as well
Review 53:This is simply a wonderful hotel. It has great facilities and lovely rooms. It is reasonably priced and on the 4 occasions that we have visited it never seems crowded. The staff are helpful and friendly and the location is excellent if you want an out of the way holiday that is a few minutes drive to the coast. I cannot recommend this enough and we certainly will return.
Review 54:Pillows were not the best
Review 55:A lovely hotel. Rooms were really big and spacious, very clean. The pool and the surrounding pool area are very spacious. The hotel was full, when we stayed, however it was generally quiet. We got the ideal relaxing stay we wanted.
Review 56:Nothing
Review 57:Large clean, comfortable bedroom; friendly, helpful waitresses, particularly a young woman from LIthuania there through Erasmus; lovely peaceful pool area; village full of lovely restaurants.
Review 58:This hotel is fantastic, everything was of high standard from check-in to check-out. Staff were friendly/helpful, facilities were excellent, pools were great fun for adults and kids and the location in the cute town of Benahavis, you could not ask for more. It can be a little pricey but you get what you pay for!
Review 59:First room we were shown wasn't to our liking no view. Alternatively room was fine
Review 60:Staff very helpful and friendly Didn't have to wake up at silly o'clock to reserve a sun lounger
Review 61:Very hot when we were there and air conditioning not quite adequate to cope with it. Of more concern and reported to the hotel, the shower trays were very slippery once wet, both my husband and I slipped in them. Suggest the hotel provide rubber mats.
Review 62:Although the hotel was quite full it never felt crowded. The layout is great, lots of space for outdoor meals and the pool areas are lovely. Great 'away from it all' location with fantastic restaurants close by in Benahavis and busier resorts within a short car journey.
Review 63:the wifi was not very good. Hardly could connect to it
Review 64:The hotel staff excellent, location is perfect for a couple of days rest, local restaurants are brilliant and reasonably priced.
Review 65:Very loud music coming from the lower pool area. we were told it was nothing to do with the hotel, but coming from an individual party who had brought their own music system!. Surely they should be asked to turn it off as annoyed most other people.
Review 66:Loved the location, although on next trip, would definitely hire a car. Also the Andalucian style of the hotel building was beautiful, especially the courtyard.
Review 67:Nothing not to like !
Review 68:Everything, Finally a 4* that really did provide provide 5* service & 4* plus, accommodation. Location & set is excellent. Staff were fantastic .
Review 69:Room at rear of hotel with only view to scrubland.
Review 70:Great location. Large room. Great breakfast and pools with sunbeds and matress. Nice views looking down valley from pool areas.
Review 71:I felt the coffee machine at breakfast was not good quality. The cooked breakfast itself could have been warmer.
Review 72:The location and pool areas. All the staff throughout the hotel were friendly and helpful at all times. The menus for dinner were very good and excellent value.
Review 73:The breakfast could have more variety for a 4 star hotel. We stayed in a 3 star hotel the days before this one in Banelmadena and there we were spoiled for choice at breakfast (and dinner) having natural fruit smoothies made on site, Spanish omlettes and cheeses.... many tipes of fruits and fruit salads. They could change the TV set in the room, as it was the old bulky type which didn't really work.
Review 74:Great views from both pools area, peaceful location and not crowded as it is along the seaside, very large bedroom and bathroom, interesting decoration in the lobby, pool table in the lobby and piano. Internet was great, free parking in the road in front of the hotel, only 10 min walk to the main square, but up the hill.
Review 75:waiters in gernal frown and ar the bat prefer to serve spanish guests and are ryubde to english guests- i know that some may be drinking a lot but is that not goof for profits?
Review 76:location, room pools and ghill out vibe
Review 77:Arrived late as arranged, receptionist took us part way to our room. Had to go down flight of steep outside steps and he expected us to carry 4 suitcases down by ourselves. I did request he help us and he did, but then he did not take them to our room which was a further 75 feet away -just said goodnight and walked off! First day water from shower was luke warm, I mentioned it and after that, perfect hot water. Hot cooked breakfast, only mediocre /poor quality
Review 78:Nice big room, ease of parking right outside the door as we were in a suite on the ground floor
Review 79:Rooms were very dated Bathrooms need updating Furniture not very comfortable Needs a massive cash injection to bring it up to 4 star standard Not enough staff when hotel was full
Review 80:Pool area fantastic Breakfast needs to be served in courtyard as very beautiful
Review 81:Love the huge beds here but we're given twins. Not what we wanted. Need to do something about people smoking around meals it's disgusting.
Review 82:Beautiful hotel in a stunning setting
Review 83:Nothing.
Review 84:The hotel was so good. It was very comfortable, clean and the pool areas were excellent. The restaurant was so good and the staff were a credit to the hotel. So helpful. The rooms were comfortable and spotless. All areas of the hotel were so clean and tidy. Beat hotel I've been to in a while. The pools are excellent with comfortable loungers you dont have to fight over as there are plenty. Beaches only 15 mins away. Cabt ask for any more. Teataurants n town only a five min walk. And so many of them. Defo try this place.
Review 85:We had 2 weddings in the hotel and a rock concert in the village during our 1 week stay!!. Obviously the rock concert was nothing to do with the hotel, but the noise from wannabe rock musicians was horrendous til 2am! I suggest people check out what is going on in this beautiful sleepy village before booking. Also, check there are no weddings going on in the hotel when you book! We came away for a nice quiet week, we didn't get it. We thought during school term time we wouldn't have any little people around ..................
Review 86:Unique lovely hotel and value for money, beautiful village very close by with some lovely restaurants. Golf courses close by so ideal location for golfers. Rooms amazing, Staff very pleasant and helpful.
Review 87:Not quite what it appears in the pictures. A little tired, could used a good renovation. Difficult to find. A sign for the last turn was missing and resulted in a difficult ride thru town. Room AC controlled by front desk, not room occupant.
Review 88:Away from the main drag.
Review 89:Breakfast could be better, especially the cereals. Also disappointed we got two single beds pushed together instead of the double bed we booked.
Review 90:Cleanliness. Friendly staff. Great service.
Review 91:Would have liked water in the room
Review 92:Service and cleanliness are excellent. The rooms are very generous and breakfast is wonderful. The location is not a long walk to the best restaurants in the village. Total relaxation.
Review 93:I loved the fact that when you are sunbathing around the pool you are surrounded by beautiful mountains. Walking distance to the quaint town with lovely restaurants.A great getaway.
Review 94:Not really a 4 star standard. The decoration was outdated in the room we staid. Spa opens at 11 only and you must wear a cap.
Review 95:Comfortable place, nice pool, friendly and helpful staff.
Review 96:The showers in general weren't up to standard, very low pressure and the shower head didn't have a good spray, the disabled shower was actually white slippery in design so we had to surround it with towels
Review 97:The staff were very accommodating with my daughters good allergy, even allowing me to keep some home vvbmade food in the hotel freezer. Huge rooms and very comfortable, my parents had the disabled room which even had its own private terrace
Review 98:The wifi can act up and the breakfast choice could be better
Review 99:The hotel location is a short stroll to some lovely restaurants and scenic village. Complex is clean and rooms are good
Review 100:my room. any rooms from 101 - 106 are not good. over the generator and constant noise. foyer could be much brighter and more welcoming.
Review 101:the pool area
Review 102:The toilets in the foyer of the hotel need to be revamped and properly cleaned
Review 103:We enjoyed the location, the peace, the atmosphere, the staff, as well as the food
Review 104:In general the place is a little 'tired' and needs some investment but the hotel still has that 'Spanish Hacienda' feel that we loved on our first visit two years ago.
Review 105:The staff are first class and very helpful. The public areas especially the pool, reception, outside eating areas are wonderful. We were upgraded to a one bedroom suite with balcony overlooking the pool and this was very spacious.
Review 106:Wifi too slow and intermittent. Room towels rather small.
Review 107:Location, swimming pool facilities and great breakfast. Friendly staff and excellent rooms.
Review 108:Curtains in bedroom were falling apart. Got moved to a suite which had a hole in bathroom ceiling and tiles clearly never been cleaned.r
Review 109:Comfortable bed
Review 110:The bungalows by the pool suffer from the pump noise of the swimming pool fountain, but it's not a big deal, even for someone as noise sensitive as me!
Review 111:We went for relaxation away from the crowd. Ambience Is Relaxing with green hills all around. Only way to explore countryside is on foot, so if you like walking its for you .... Otherwise 20 min drive to coast. We ate at hotel throughout our 3 day stay. Average food.
Review 112:Wifi not great in room 112 - but ok, good in public areas. Room seemed a bit old, needs a repaint. Breakfast not a great selection but acceptable.
Review 113:Location good, great views up in to the village. Pleasant walk to the village but it is uphill!!! Pool area very nice.
Review 114:Kids ( being kids ) so noisey round pool, screaming , love kids but surely their parents should ask them to play without SCREAMING! Maybe the hotel should have kids at one pool only.
Review 115:Pool, room, bed, service
Review 116:I love Benahavis because if it's friendly and world class service! Every restaurant offers exactly what you would expect every time and the staff are brilliant!! 5 stars!!!
Review 117:The hotel has a beautiful setting, and is literally a ten minute walk from two streets of superb restaurants and tapas bars. Not one but two lovely pools and the spa treatments are both good value and expertly given. Staff smile lots and are very helpful, what a fabulous hotel.
Review 118:It wasn't a bad breakfast but very average breakfast buffet. It only stood out as this was the only average thing about the hotel!
Review 119:The hotel was beautiful, so clean and helpful staff
Review 120:Can apear a little forlorn when guest nuimbers are very low. It does remain part of its charm though. It is like have your very own serviced villa.
Review 121:Same staff on each occasion - it is like meeting old friends.
Review 122:Only 3 rooms on one of the floors still had old beds. We were given one but made to pay the same price as another couple travelling with us who had the new, larger and much more comfortable beds. When we told the staff we were told this was impossible until the head cleaner confirmed our story.
Review 123:The food, staff and location are all great.
Review 124:Coffee at breakfast from the machine is the only thing i can think of that we didn't enjoy, I feel cherlish for even mentioning it!
Review 125:Excelent hotel, but it is the staff that really made for a lovely stay, I hope they are rewarded correctly for always going the extra mile to make guests feel special. We loved our stay.
Review 126:The website photos of the hotel give a very different impression from that which greets you on arrival. Very tired and badly maintained. We booked a suite as we wanted a bit more comfort. Unfortunately none of the furniture in the lounge area was comfortable. There was a desk with a lamp, but no socket to plug the lamp into. A mini bar was promised, but only an empty, not very clean fridge was in the room. The frame of shower cabinet in our bathroom was very dirty. A hotel which needs a bit of love and money.
Review 127:The location and the staff. Even the public park and well used exercise facilities surrounding the hotel do not detract from this location. There is just not enough staff and the ones who are working there are working very hard, long shifts and always with a smile on their faces. Nothing is too much trouble for them.
Review 128:The room was a good size, as was the bed! Although the decoration is a little tired don't let this put you off, as the room was very clean and comfortable. The grounds and gardens around the swimming pools are beautiful. Great location for the local restaurants which are about a 15 minute walk (uphill).
Review 129:The air conditioning in our room didn't work and the staff said there was nothing they could do. There were no staff AT ALL in the dining room for breakfast. Every single one was outside talking or smoking.
Review 130:Lovely hotel in a beautiful setting.
Review 131:Only negative was that the air conditioning in all the rooms appeared to be deactivated. We stayed over an unusually hot weekend, but we could not engage the air conditioning in the night when we needed it.
Review 132:Location. Lots of good restaurants nearby. Two outdoors pools and an indoor spa. Relaxing hotel. Friendly staff. Clean and comfortable rooms. Free WIFI and ample car parking.
Review 133:There is a now lot of construction taking place opposite the hotel. Beautiful landscapes are now replaced by ugly fenced in tennis/football pitches. Construction work is ongoing, so the only road leading to Marbella has a lot of hazards to look out for, not to mention the loud noises from the machinery!
Review 134:This is our 5th stay at the hotel, which says a lot! The hotel is less than 20 mins to Marbella, surrounded by gorgeous mountains, streams and trees. The grounds are well looked after, and food is good. The staff are very friendly and helpful.
Review 135:Everything was great, there is nothing to dislike!
Review 136:This is a beautiful hotel, with excellent facilities, near a lovely old Spanish town, but its biggest asset is the staff. From the moment of checking in until the time we left, everyone was so helpful, polite and efficient. We met a cleaner in the lift who was carrying some custard apples, my wife mentioned that she liked these and next morning there was a bag of custard apples in our room. We used the bar on both nights of our stay and on the second night the waitress knew exactly what we wanted to drink, even down to the type of coffee we liked and that I liked ice in my brandy. You won't find service like that everywhere you go. We thoroughly recommend this hotel and would have loved to have stayed longer.
Review 137:Booked a Superior Double and was given an outer bungalo room by the pool. I wouldn't want this room during the high season as I can imagine privacy would be an issue (during the day) as well as noise from the pool goers. The room layout was poorly planned in general. The doors have large in-built (blur glazed) side windows that allow a lot of light through them. Its hard to sleep during the early hours of the morning as the light shines in. Perhaps some blinds should be installed to cover those. The air con unit filter needed a change, it was VERY dusty and actually dropped a lot of dust/dirt whenever it was turned off or on and the flaps forced some movement. Also, if it rains, you are detached from the hotel so will get wet if you have to leave the room for any reason. We found this out the hard way. Wifi needs to be a bit more stable.
Review 138:The size of bed, cleanliness of room, friendly staff and location is great. Breakfast is good with a large range of options for all types of preferences.
Review 139:wireless internet was not very good and the bars could be more open for coffee and snacks
Review 140:The rooms and breakfast were great. The lady in the Spa was lovely and the staff in general were nice (barmen a bit surly though) free parking! Excellent
