Reviews for Hotel el Jardín de Eugenia
Review 1:This is a smart little hotel a few minutes walk from the centre of Ribadesella. Our room was nicely furnished, the bed comfortable and the bathroom well equipped. A little traffic noise and noisy plumbing were the only complaint. Breakfast is a treat, with a good selection, well cooked and presented and Eugenia's lemon cake is the lightest and best we have had. The hotel lent us bikes to explore the area. Altogether a comfortable hotel run by very helpful people and offering terrific value for money.
Review 2:The noise from the road outside was very loud and the breakfast room very dark without windows.
Review 3:We were able to store our bikes here safely under cover
Review 4:There was a weird smell in the room that seemed to come from the bathroom. The room was very hot but you couldn't have the windows open because its on a main road, so we didn't really sleep that much. Outside of July/August though I'm sure it would be OK.
Review 5:All staff and owners very friendly. Room and bathroom an OK size. Very good breakfast. Good location a few minutes walk from the main town.
Review 6:Verging on Faulty Towers! Small rooms and beds plus not very well designed bathrooms. Old building in great need of investment/modernisation.
Review 7:Reasonable acces to a great town with good local restaurants.
Review 8:Dingy breakfast room - dark, looks like damp on walls and lots of flies. Not in keeping with rest of hotel. Why do they not use the lovely terrace? Breakfast items a bit restrictive - having to choose between melon and kiwi when I was only eating that and bread!!
Review 9:Externally, it’s a very ordinary-looking building, in the scragg end of town, on (very close to) the busy main road in/out of town (opposite a road junction), next door to the bus station and various derelict properties. Yes, it is a short walk from the centre of town and the beaches. The bedroom was no more than OK, with old furniture, a super-stylish but badly fitted bathroom suite. Mopping up a bit of shower over-spray soon after arrival, the sponge I used quickly took the appearance of a small long-haired animal, having swept up a layer of previous occupants’ hair from the floor ...ugh ! Of all the money evidently spent, none has been spent on air conditioning so, in summer weather, the choice is to be kept awake by the traffic or boil alive in a hot room. A beautiful, tranquil terrace overlooks the river estuary but, sadly, this is not used for breakfast that is provided in a cellar room next to the kitchen – with mould on the walls.
Review 10:It would appear that someone has spent a fortune on this hotel, possibly a large one. The interior has been fitted out in the most expensive way imaginable with lashings of laser-cut graphics, wall painting and the kind of knick-knacks that cost lots. Even the curtains and dressing gowns are embroidered with the hotel logo. The level of branding detail is truly astonishing. The mystery is – why ? Why this hotel, or more to the point, why this building ? The couple that run this hotel are such truly lovely people that it pains me to write this review, but €126 per night for this hotel is simply ridiculous.
Review 11:Parking difficult and no sign other than 'hotel' so we had trouble finding the place. Very few facilities. Wifi didn't work well upstairs. One room smelled heavily of smoke. Very over-priced, though we did stay on a public holiday and I noticed prices were more reasonable otherwise.
Review 12:Comfortable beds. Possible to walk into town. Breakfast was nice but would have preferred buffet-style as service terribly slow.
Review 13:We could not stay longer!!!!
Review 14:Charming, beautiful hotel next to the bus station which is good as cabs are few and far between. Easy walk to wonderful cafes and restaurants and wonderful host and hostess. Excellent breakfast, quiet room, a very comfortable place to stay.
Review 15:Wifi a bit slow. Small parking space at the location (but lots of free public spaces around the corner).
Review 16:Very nice and helpful staff. Extremely good breakfast. Good location for beach and Picos.
Review 17:It's the staff that make this place. Euginia and Jesus were terrific and very helpful.
Review 18:Car park entrance ramp over the pavement difficult for a low vehicle.
Review 19:Bedroom, good size, interesting furniture pieces with no clutter.
Review 20:Upper room was very warm during the night and noise from the road
Review 21:The Zen Den Feel
Review 22:Everything and the service extra
Review 23:We arrived late and , although we had good directions, the gate had been locked and we had to telephone for admittance. Just a small point which did not spoil our stay.
Review 24:This was the cleanest hotel we have stayed in in thirty years of breaks and holidays in Europe and America. We loved the quirky mix of modern and old. It was ideally placed for us, within a short drive from the ferry port. We slept well after a late arrival and woke to a beautiful breakfast served personally in the dining room by Jesus.
Review 25:Staff were fantastic - Marie Fe took time to recommend places to eat and visit (all excellent by the way!) - room's are very good and breakfasts were excellent.
Review 26:We were only guests and felt a bit "observed" - albeit they were trying (too hard) to ensure we had what we needed. Room was a bit overdone in decor - nice but a bit too much for our simpler tastes. Having everything including the bath screens themed with the hotel name (and poetry in places) felt a bit unnecessary. Breakfast was slow and although cooked/prepared to order - was a bit dissappointing - again trying too hard to be "special" when simplicity would do. Finally credit card machine wouldn't work - so cash drained and a bank machine fee incurred!
Review 27:Good location to explore town and vert well presented place with quality firrings throughout. Quiet and peaceful night - bed very good. Would be very nice on a warm night to use their terrace and to have more guests around would produce a nice environment.
Review 28:Staff very helpful and friendly, good location 5 minutes walk from bar and restaurant area (beach and beach hotels etc are the other side of the river- in our view it's beter to be town-side)
Review 29:I didn't like that I had to pay the same as amount as a couple but was given a much smaller room with fewer amenities because I was a single.
Review 30:I liked the friendliness of the staff and the breakfasts were excellent. The room was also very neat and clean.
