Reviews for Majestic Colonial - Punta Cana
Review 1:Hotel could to do mutch more for guests what many times returning to this hotel.
Review 2:We stayed in Majestic 4 th time and was great as each time. That is for us best hotel on Bavaro.
Review 3:Bathroom area no privacy toilet VERY small. Sand on floor even at checkin. Room NOT ready in time. Sale craft never available even when no breeze detected on beach, lazy people.
Review 4:Grounds well kept, nice pool and adjacent areas. Food plentiful, quality average. Beach and activities good.
Review 5:Housekeeping took an extraordinary time (2-4 hours) to deliver an extra blanket. There were beds propped up in the halls every day near our room, which was weird. Our tub stopped working, and it took about a day to get it fixed. A trip to the salon for a pedicure was typical of the experience- a beautiful setting on the outside, but the services and the dingy rooms left alot to be desired. Apparently advertised services were not available. The hotel rooms were nothing special and pretty worn around the edges. Two really bad experiences in this hotel: 1) I got a piece of sharp white ceramic (like a plate or cup fragment) in a brownie dessert at dinner. I chewed on it for awhile, thinking it was a crispy part of the desert, which had some sugary glass on top. After nearly destroying my tooth and showing the fragment to the waiter, nothing was done. This cut up the inside of my mouth, but could have caused major problems if I ingested it. 2) Another serious health risk affected our room, but I'm giving the hotel a little more time to make it right before disclosing it.An important final note- if you have any intention of changing your dates, don't book here. I couldn't get in touch with the hotel after 10 calls and 2 fake email addresses that they gave me, in order to report a serious problem we found after check-out. A quick google search showed many others had the same problem getting in touch with the hotel- there's no contact info (that works anyway) for this hotel. Lots of folks have filed complaints against the Vacation Store Miami, who seems to be the only point of contact for this hotel, for falsely appearing to be affiliated with the Majestic on their website. Check out the BBB's page on Vacation Store Miami before you go. In sum, this looks like a great hotel, but there's so much hidden away just beyond view.
Review 6:The hotel common areas were beautiful and the staff was incredibly friendly. The food was decent, and the piece of beach was beautiful, although a little rough for swimming. The staff were constantly singing, which was lovely. I never got sick from the food, which is always a plus since I travel alot, and buffets are risky.
Review 7:Extremely clean, comfortable, wonderful staff. Nice size..not too big. Wonderful beach access with chairs and huts. I believe we picked the best place in the Dominican
Review 8:When we arrived they didn't have the room we reserved available. They offered us $200 spa credit for the inconvenience. Could have saved way more than that on our booking for the room we reserved had we known it wouldn't be available. The staff works 5-6 days a week for more than 12 hours a day...some of them can seem quite unfriendly at times. Others are fabulous! However, they do seem to expect tips although it says tip is included at the time of booking. Also, booking.com does not arrange transportation to and from the airport. Book in advance (approx $40 each way) or prepare to Haggle with taxi drivers. Get on the beach Early if you want to find a chair.
Review 9:The room was excellent! We had our own rooftop, private hot tub! Butler service was great as well. Must get a massage from the spa! Buffets were great. Other restaurants were decent. Liquor/beer was plentiful! Must try these two cocktails: majestic & banana mamma!!
Review 10:Low quality endless alcohol, and other than the nice breakfast buffet, bad food. Glasses smelled like eggs or like vinegar. Very unappetizing. The entertainment was cheesy. This is not a 5 star resort.
Review 11:Great pool and great beach.
Review 12:Check in was very congested and a little disorganized.
Review 13:I enjoyed the all inclusive package which included drinks and at least five restaurants to choose from to eat 24 hrs a day. The resort had numerous stores on site and a large beach area.
Review 14:Food was just so so. Not bad not great . Buffet was best place to eat. If you want excellent dining on your vacation this is not the place to go
Review 15:Staff and service excellent. Facility very nice. Staff was very eager to please.
Review 16:The dinner restaurant on the beach was not good but the other food was good
Review 17:The staff was amazing! So friendly and accommodating....room service burgers exceptionally delicious
Review 18:Food was lousy. The fish restaurant was not edible. The main buffet restaurant was ok and the Japanese restaurant was the only good one.
Review 19:Buildings and facilities are wonderful.
Review 20:Hotel is somewhat old. Elevator was always broken in our building and we had to use stairs to the 4th floor.
Review 21:Food was great!!! Main buffet is the best! Beautiful beach. Friendly personnel. Really great kids club!
Review 22:The TV in the room is not very good - poor reception and limited amount channels compared with other 5 star facilities. The communal bathrooms do not have baby changing facilities. The food is generally good but the staff tend to use way too much oil when frying food. There is also a limited selection of coffees - only filter coffee and we would expect more from this facility.
Review 23:The staff is polite, friendly and good with children. The facilities of the restaurant are good and the main buffet fresh and modern.
Review 24:The room wasn't as polished as we hoped, we have minor plumbing issue and a light went out when we were there.
Review 25:The staff, food, and shows were fantastic. The jr suite swim up we stayed in was perfect and still offered privacy.
Review 26:We were not advised by Booking.com that renovation work had been planned / being done during our 5 day stay. Main buffet was closed. Colonial Spa closed. Painting, decorating outside our room in adult only section. Rooms being renovated so loud noise due to workers starting early in the morning.
Review 27:Cleanliness. Excellent up keep of grounds. Large rooms
Review 28:*Lots a tipsy people in the pool with big cigars or cigarettes ,walking around in the pool with there cocktails. *There is maintenance going on in the whole hotel, so you have to calculate some noise of drillings etc. * The main restaurant is completely closed and so the Spa. (food in the other restaurants is halv of the quality and choice)
Review 29:If you like to drink yourself tipsy every day, you will have a lot of friends here. * The staff (except from the reception which is +/-) are extremely kind and friendly.
Review 30:Everything was great, really friendly staff, great food, premium drinks, best resort experience in a long time, all ready making plans for our next visit.
Review 31:A staying was a blast. Really the one of the nicest hotels I have ever been. Stayed for 2 weeks and never had any issues with anything. Food is great and vary every day. Staff is exceptional and very helpful. Rooms are beautiful and extra clean. It’s definitely worth the money. I would recommend.
Review 32:This was our group first trip to Punta Cana and we had no clue as to what resort to stay at but Majestic Colonial exceeded our expectations. The staff was friendly, fun and very attentive. my friends and I had a wonderful time and certainly plan to return.
Review 33:I am a picky eater, so I ate the same thing everyday for breakfast, had no lunch. Our group of 10 ate,at one of the nicer resturants everynight. The food was outstanding.
Review 34:the service all round was excellent.
Review 35:Their customer service sucks. At arrival my room was dirty. Stillwaiting for an apology. I developed a rash on the 2nd day, not sure ifthere were bugs in the bed, maybe the pool was unbalanced. Never wasable to speak with a manager. I think they play hide and seek all day.
Review 36:Entertainers were pretty good.
Review 37:Some of the gift shops associates were unfriendly and some of the merchandise sold on the beach offered better quality. Example: wrist bands
Review 38:The size of the room, the multiple pools, close accessibility to the beach, friendly staff.
Review 39:Japanese restaurant could give more options. They do not provide sashimi. Natural juice could be available during the whole day and not only in the restaurants during breakfast. Coconut water could be available as well.
Review 40:Swimming pool, good food and a good number of restaurants. Entertainment people are very good.
Review 41:you could see lunch food in dinners food, Didnt get my room cleaned one of the days Wifi didnt work inside the room
Review 42:Pool Le Gourmet restaurant was excellent
Review 43:Majority of the time the food was cold and note labeled most times had to assume it's chicken but it's pork. Rodeo Grill Buffet should expand during the day the choices are repetitive. The staff aren't very friendly sum not all are rude..
Review 44:Room was pool side...very beautiful!! Love the hot tub and shower. The pool was really nice the staff kept the guest entertainment and busy. Favorite was the Foam party..and Beach Party Awesome!!!!! Overall the vacation was really nice and relaxing and very entertaining.
Review 45:The food is average, Not bad but not great...I had my wedding there and had over 80 guests and everyone agreed . The good news is that no one got sick from the food!
Review 46:The staff and rooms are really nice.
Review 47:Food could be better, apart from that everything was great.
Review 48:It was an amazing trip. Stuff was very friendly and helpful. Wonderful holidays, will deffinetely come back
Review 49:Beds and pillows were terrible , rooms werenin fair condition , premium liquor was a joke , they we're always "out". Wait staff was a joke even if we tipped. Horrible experience !!!
Review 50:Nothing !
Review 51:I read previous reviews where people were overbooked a night, well so were we. Although they put us up that's a day taken out of effectively a 4 day stay. The service at the restaurants was not good, The Rodeo Grill had me fetching my own drinks and I was not the only one. Alcohol was ok but the food was below par, especially the restaurants that you had to book for. If you are used to nice 5 stars then you will be disappointed.
Review 52:The location was good
Review 53:the food was not the best, we expected better experience for the money that we paid, there was a roach crawling on the food at the customer public relations main office, sand inside the lobster, the first night we have to take a different room in place the room that we paid because according they something happened in the adult area and we can't have access to our rooms, personally we have the impression that they rented our rooms to other guests and we have to wait until next day. the gave us a voucher for 100 dollars, to use inside the hotel (room service) but anyway the situation was uncomfortable. sport bar? a joke, long waiting line to order. We visit Punta Cana every year, but this time this choice was not the best.
Review 54:very friendly staff, beautiful locations and gardens, rooms comfortable, great tours and shows outside the hotel (offered in the main hallway)
Review 55:The night we arrived they were oversold and tried to send us to another hotel 5 minutes away and bring us back the next day plus a reward of U$200 in services inside the hotel. Poor management decisions...
Review 56:Great pools, awesome beach... For the price payed, food is fair enough...
Review 57:They only thing I would of liked was more authentic Dominican food. For the most part the food was similar to most resorts with mostly neutral food that was good but very Americanized to pleas the majority of patrons. Sometime it is fun to step out of your comfort zone.
Review 58:Everything was great. The beach was really nice and the pools were clean and didn't seem over crowded at any point during our stay.
Review 59:Quality of food and drink supplied is low for the prices being charged. Typical Corporate style to drive revenue up and cost down. Very big facility which makes you feel somewhat like cattle.
Review 60:Very friendly staff, very clean and easy stay.
Review 61:A few things I did not like I'll number them 1)The ocean bar/restaurant bufffet seemed to make me go to the bathroom quite frequently the food seems to be lower quality than all the other restaurants- Only good thing you can order there are the omeletes and you'll be ok. 2) We had made dinner reservations for 4 at the French restaurant- Food was good , we had a situation where one of the waiters made a mistake with bringing desert out after we just had appetizers (which is fine everyone makes mistakes) then another mistake was made with bringing the wrong dinner selections. What really turned me off was he pointed at my plate and said "You got the lamb" And that still was NOT my selction, I was trying to explain what dish goes to what person and the waiter pretty much ignored me and kept screaming to the other waiter staff , I had to basically raise my voice and yell back at him to listen to what I was saying.. I believe there is a coaching opportunity their for the waiter staff to get a bit more organized. Lastly as I was checking out they seemed to make a big deal about beach towels.. I left them in the room and the concierge seemed to try and make me feel really bad that I didndt bring them up to the front desk.. I hope the resort is reading this -When I or people are checking out with suitcases after a vacation the last thing anyone wants to hear is a hassle about beach towels.. Most people that come to resorts like this are NOT trying to steal beach towels trust me. Other than those minor things to me, I would return again and recommend this resort to anyone that wants to have a fun filled week!
Review 62:What I really enjoyed was all the interaction and activities the resort prepares for you.. There's activites and entertainment all day!
Review 63:After charging my card and some chit-chat we were told in a by-the-way manner that the hotel was overbooked and we would have to stay the first night in a hotel next door. Having travelled for 12-20 hours between us this was not great, as the other hotel was also of noticeably lower quality. But it was late anyway, so we didn't lose out on too much. They made up for it by giving us credit to use against services in the resort and upgrading us to an amazing room right by the beach, so that was ok. The food and cocktails were all ok (especially breakfast omelettes!), however less quantity of different option and much more quality should be considered by the management as the food and cocktails weren't up to five star standards. Some staff worked according to a script and weren't responsive to anything out of the ordinary. The WiFi was available throughout the resort but slow and sometimes unresponsive. The mattress wasn't the most comfortable.
Review 64:Rooms are large and clean, the resort is beautiful and tasteful and never feels crowded, the long stretch of white sand beach with uncountable palm trees. Some of the staff were incredibly friendly and proactively helpful. The facilities are all in very good condition. The spa was a gem.
Review 65:this was my worse resort experience, no hot water, they didn't change the sheets. The overall quality of the hotel was poor with constant complaints to management and there was no resolution to issues.
Review 66:The best part of the stay was the nice romantic package that we had as a surprise.
Review 67:At the buffet restaurant ,service was good the first 2 days but after this need to found personnel who were far away of our table. Unable to use ATM at the lobby to retrieve money. It`s better to bring American money before arrival.
Review 68:Good quality of the food. Nice beach. Hotel & surrounding very clean Quality of the service by medical personnel at the Hotel clinic.
Review 69:Pools and beach both close at 6:30! That too early. Food was awful I got sick 4 days into trip and couldn't get of the toilet the rest of our trip. Night life was lame too.
Review 70:Great staff! Nice rooms, Great pools and beach.
Review 71:Not a thing!
Review 72:All inclusive rises to another level at this beautiful and charming resort. The food was amazing, the staff is warm and welcoming to the person. The variety of experiences to be found will please all from youngsters to seniors.
Review 73:The air conditioner broke down in the middle of the night and water was falling from it all night long, I called front desk but nobody showed up.
Review 74:Staff was great
Review 75:The gym. Facility is out dated... My wife is a avid gym person. Treadmills were broken, when asked the attendant? He wasn't any help. It's unfortunate that such a Beautiful place lets such a small thing as equipment give them a black mark. They must!! Do a better job in this area. 3 treadmills... 2 broken. Not good
Review 76:The staff was eager to help. We travel to other places were the people/ staff move very slow. Not at the Majestic colonial... Your comfort is a priority. Would go again. It was out first time.., is on are list to repeat.
Review 77:They push too hard while trying to sell the tours. There was an arts and crafts fair in the hotel and the vendors were really rude.
Review 78:The location, food and staff are great.
Review 79:Air conditioning in our room wasn't as cool as it should have been and we had a problem using the Wi-Fi.
Review 80:Pool and pool bar, the room was excellent and classy, the food was great with a good selection of cultural entrees and desserts. The service was fantastic, especially Ramon and Maria. Also plenty of things to do.
Review 81:The buffet food was ok at best and the lines were long. I suggest making reservations as soon as you arrive at the on site restaurants.
Review 82:The grounds were very well kept. The staff was very nice and ready to assist you with any questions or needs.
Review 83:The food was awful in every restaurant except the French one (available to Colonial Club only, but still only marginal food) and the Japanese/Chinese one; lunch dinner, all of it. The breakfasts were good, but everything tastes a little off. A word to the wise, drink bottled water even though they tell you what they pour in the water glasses is bottled. We felt a little nauseous until we figured this out. The WiFi is slow and sporatic at best. And, be sure to pay attention when getting a cab. We were told one price then when we were on our way a different price came to our driver over the radio...sad for him 3 out of 5 of us are fluent in Spanish. Finally, please remember to have $10/person cash at hand as soon as you arrive; entrance tax for temporary visa. The airport is very crowded and personnel impatient.
Review 84:We liked the atmosphere at the resort, all of service staff on the family side, but the staff at the Colonial Club side were a little rude; and the variance of activities (we were there over New Years). If you get the right bar tender, the drinks were also good.
Review 85:Violent stomach disorder after a couple of days. Also the food became very repetitive after four or five days. The beach gas hidden coral outcrops that are dangerous.
Review 86:Helpful staff at all times. Always lots of drinks. Especially liked the Majestic cocktail.
Review 87:The beach activities were not great (no wave runners). The shows at night were good, but after about 11:00pm there really wasn't anything like live music and the disco was so so. I would say this would be a great resort if you had young kids. The golf course was nice, but take your own clubs as the rentals are terrible.
Review 88:We have been to 3 or 4 all-inclusive resorts and this was the best food by far at any of the all-inclusives we have been to. They had something for everyone. The asian cooking was fun and delicious as were the buffets. The beach was absolutely beautiful. They had great bars (the bar in the lower main lobby has the top shelf liquors just ask for it) and the the room was more than adequate and was cleaned each day. Franklin our butler was wonderful and the staff was extremely helpful and pleasant. Overall I would go back again!
Review 89:The food was poor,a person from my group got food poisoning and was admitted to the hospital. restaurant hours were not suitable for young children.lunch did not start until 12:30 .
Review 90:The room overlooking the pool
Review 91:Staff: Except of the higher level of management (like Ira in Club La Gourment, Francisco), the lower level management (like Robinson in reception area) as well as the overall stuff (restaurants, cleaning, etc) are not giving you the feeling that you are a guest in this resort and they are happy to help you. The feeling is that the guest disturbs them to do their work or to chat with colleagues around. We had problems with payment and 1 full day (!!!!) was spent dealing with it. When I told Robinson that 1 day dealing with the problem is too long (I could spend it at the beach), he was getting aggressive and told that I should be happy he is not kicking me out from the hotel (!!!!!) and that he is providing me good service helping to deal with the problem. And truly he believed that helping the client is not a normal part of his job but an extra service. Overall most problems turned out to be my problem-got tired from that (I speak Spanish- this helped a lot). And this is not what we are paying this big money for. Wrong wrong attitude.Food: much of fast food: burgers, pizza, pasta and cheap pastry. Beach restaurant caters greasy foods (everything fried in much oil). For the healthy eating people we were happy to see the fresh fish. Vegetables and fruits were always available- made the most of our food.Additional comment: there are no signs what belongs to Elegance (more expensive part of the hotel) and what to Colonial and sometimes when we stepped into Elegance area we were immediately kicked out of there, which didn’t make a nice feeling- two hotels are located in one area thus very easy to mix with no intention especially during the first days- put the clear sings where not to go for Colonial!!SPA: overpriced (55 min massage starting form 100 USD and up).
Review 92:Location: great- the beach is very beautiful. Room: we had a big and spacious room. Room was very clean. No mosquitos in the territory of the hotel- we could leave the room balcony door open. Garden: very beautiful- every tiny detail is made for you to see the beauty of it – huge amount of work behind this beauty! Food: The main restaurant is a very beautiful place itself- the tables are well served and overall feeling is fresh and clean. Service in the sea food restaurant was very quick- never have seen that well organised team. Xmas dinner was truly amazing- lobsters, seafood, different types of cheese and meet were there. We enjoyed the wine the hotel serves every day as well as other drinks were well-made. Otherwise food mostly was not healthy and oriented to people eating big quantities and low quality (more in "CONS"part) Entertainment: entertainment team was organising many events, dancing salsa with guests in the evenings- everybody gets the attention! Big thanks to the great work of entertainment team- they working very hard.
Review 93:- Service was not equal and if you didn't tip all the time service went worse and staff didn't notice you as it should in Resort with 5star - Cleaning was not the quality of 5star resort - Also broken things wich was not taken in action for example broken sunbeds by the pool, broken lights, broken sliding door ...
Review 94:- Food was good - Evening shows were nice and those changed almost every night ( stayed 16 nights )
Review 95:Food and entertainment need work. Food variety and quality were fair to poor; nightly entertainment - too loud, too much base, and a very annoying emcee. Planned acts did not show.
Review 96:Beach, staff, pools all good
Review 97:Not a big deal, but there was no room with king bed the first day, sowe've got a twin room, and had to move the next day. Food is not asbad as many people write – it looks and tastes pretty good actually, butboth of us have got pretty severe stomach issues. A few hours of ourvacation were spent in the restroom, which is quite sad. You probablywant to avoid seafood and cold-food-which-is-supposed-to-be-hot.Cocktails were not impressive except 1 day in the main lobby bar. Therewas a lot of noise at night and during daytime in our room, staff istalking on radio all the time, and this is quite loud. Oh, and finding aspot on the beach is sometimes challenging.
Review 98:- Staff is helpful and responsive- Territory looks great – pools, palms etc. - The Weather
Review 99:The food! Room service Quality of drinks Untrained staff Algae and seaweed plagued the beach A lot of untrained staff
Review 100:Well manicured grounds Beautiful swimming pool Great looking at night
Review 101:Noisy everywhere - beach people selling construction noise, tractor cleaning up seaweed, pool music, cleaning people with loud carts - I really wanted to relax and sleep but it was so loud everywhere! The pictures show the entire resort but you are only allowed in certain areas - colonial club is adults only and more expensive. Non colonial club - had bare boxsprings bed, bed was broken, old TV so we asked to move. Colonial club - we upgraded and there is supposed to be a butler but he didn't do anything and the premium drinks are basically a couple of top shelf liquors you can ask for but only if they understand what you are saying!
Review 102:Most of the staff was great Colonial club lounge was really nice
Review 103:The beaches get crowded pretty quickly and not much selection of fresh fruit to choose from.
Review 104:The rooms were very nice, so were the pools, beach and bars. Lots of activities, you will never be bored and Most of the restaurants have really good food.
Review 105:90% of the food was not good. I don't know how the staff can improved it's cooking skills but I did not enjoy any of the food I had while staying at this resort.
Review 106:I liked the room, the staff, and how beautiful the resort looked. The beach was very clean and the bars were always open.
Review 107:Beach is located on a bend so there are more rocks and coral in the water but nothing to worry about you can always take a 5 minute walk away from the bend!
Review 108:1) Tuesday Beach party 2) Activities 3) Food 4) Cleanliness 5) Staff 6) Room
Review 109:Some of the food options weren't the greatest but that may also just be due to a picky appetite.
Review 110:I loved everything about this resort. I highly recommend this resort and will most likely be making a return visit in the near future.
Review 111:The food is terrible. It was below our already very low expectations.
Review 112:The pools, beach, and bars are all fun. The pools are clean and warm. The beach is nice with plenty of lounge chairs. The bars offer a wide variety of drinks.
Review 113:I did not like the feel like you where on a cruise every hotel gives a bracelet to wear so you cannot go to a different hotel to eat you basically are stuck at your hotel. The majestic has five restaurant and a buffet I found the food to basically taste the same, I upgraded to premium on the liquor and absolute vodka was the best they carried,
Review 114:My first time Punta Cana, I was very pleased it was all that I had imagine the weather was good, out off seven days only two were cloudy I still laid out, the majestic was clean, and the staff was excellent,
Review 115:To find the resort by yourself is quite difficult. the beach is not fantastic. the food in the all inclusive is ok but not fantastic.
Review 116:the resort is new and quite nice.
Review 117:Food - was less impressed than expected. Fruit and bread were good - anything with meat or fish was a surprise.
Review 118:Resort, beaches, activities, bars, nightlife, rooms, staff.
Review 119:Very big resort already a bit older, beach somewhat eroded
Review 120:Service was good and helpful Food was good
Review 121:Location, staff, Quality, Food, all experience was good
Review 122:Facilities are older, a little worn, but not bad.
Review 123:Location was perfect
Review 124:N/a
Review 125:Food
Review 126:3th visit and all was great as all the time in Majestic
Review 127:The food was gross
Review 128:The staff was friendly and very helpful the entertainment team was excellent
Review 129:The employers atendance
Review 130:No food served on the beach/
Review 131:Very friendly staff.
Review 132:The food in some of the restaurants is not up to the standard.
Review 133:It's big place, lots of people!
Review 134:It's a fun resorts, lots to do! Options with restaurant
Review 135:The hotel was great but I really enjoyed all the entertainment choices!
Review 136:The food needs major improvement. Food was mediocre at best. Was so bad lost weight from lack of eating.
Review 137:Food options by the bar.
Review 138:Pillows were worn out.
Review 139:Pool is amazing
Review 140:We loved the beach, and the pool as well as the meals and the courteous staff.
