Reviews for Hotel Convento Aracena & SPA
Review 1:Everything. Helpful reception staff, excellent breakfast, tastefully decorated public rooms, spacious secure parking, spa, swimming pool, comfortable quiet room with free cold drinks in mini-bar all set in a delightful little white town in the heart of beautiful countryside. We were on our way to Seville from Merida, so had only booked two nights. What a mistake! We should love to go back.
Review 2:Spa was a little crowded, even though they manage the numbers through a booking process - maybe we just hit the rush hour.
Review 3:Modern and old meet. Clean junior suite and helpful staff. Nice location and for the money, really very good. Breakfast included - managed to have it outside in the sun. All in all, very pleasant stay.
Review 4:The convenient location was perfect for us. We liked the contemporary comfort and decor within the old convent walls The food was particularly inventive and tasty and they had a good wine list.Friendly and healthy staff.
Review 5:Restaurant very pricey - but plenty of opportunities for eating out nearby.
Review 6:Fantastic historic property - beautifully & tastefully renovated. Great position in a very interesting town.
Review 7:The only negative for us was that there is quite a steep hill to climb back to the hotel from the town, but for someone younger there would be no problem.
Review 8:Really friendly and helpful staff, nothing was too much trouble.
Review 9:whilst the staff are all very nice I feel the training is mediocre at best. the food in the dining room is poor
Review 10:the town is great. very relaxing and beautiful. the hotel is nice, the bathroom excellent, the pool is superb
Review 11:There is nothing, nothing, to even mildly complain about!
Review 12:Well, the building is fantastic, rooms are beautiful, the pool and restaurant areas are lovely, dinner and breakfast first class, the staff are friendly and helpful. And it is not over priced!
Review 13:We were disappointed with the choice of food on the lunch and dinner menus. This could have been due to the fact that it was extremely quiet with few people staying at the hotel. However for a 4 star hotel the food was definitely below the standard we would expect.
Review 14:The hotel is well appointed and has retained the character of the old convent but the facilities are modern and well designed. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. From the hotel it was easy to walk to the various places of interest i.e. the caves
Review 15:They restored this convent in a fantastic way, keeping all the old parts and at the same time it is very modern, comfortable, huge bedroom, bathrooms with all the comfort.
Review 16:Apart from Maria at Reception who was very helpful and professional the other staff appeared very friendly but lacking professionalism. Breakfast poor. Room a bit damp. Gardening needs more attention. Overpriced for value but with potential,
Review 17:The location was superb, tranquil and romantic. Spacious room. We requested baby bed and it was all perfectly arranged. Free parking. Very pretty interior design.
Review 18:In one of our rooms there was a problem in the bathroom that caused an important flooding. When we let the reception people know about it, she was not able to solve the problem neither to get the maintenance people to do so. They didn't consider the problem seriously. The result was a second flooding the second day... We were very disappointed with the lack of interest showed by the management of the hotel.
Review 19:The hotel is very comfortable and the old building has been decorated beautifully. The room is nice and the bathroom really good, very modern and with a lot of details.
Review 20:I loved the Convento and the remarks are just on a few details which can improve: - the access to the restaurant is on the outside with is not confortable when is cold or rainning - at least the superior rooms should have room slippers and a robe - the wifi was poor
Review 21:The Lounge and Bar The Bedroom The Restaurant The Garage
Review 22:Although this is an historic building certain aspects of the restoration were questionable. For example the painting over of the brick cloisters and the painting over of original detail on the frontage. In spite of being and historic building, as a hotel it was totally devoid of character. Some very well chosen artwork in the public spaces and bedrooms would perhaps be an idea. The use of probably expensive dark wood panneling in my bedroom added nothing to the aesthetic. I was told that the restaurant was excellent. This was very far from the case. My server was attentive and personable. I was given what I thought was a complimentary starter and bread roll. Turned out that I was charged 1.50 euro for this. I have two vegetarian dishes, mushrooms and green beans. I suspect that they had been cooked in advance and heated up as there was a continual sound of a microwave ringing. I had cheese to finish but it was stale and had a mouldy taste. Not impressive. Breakfast was just OK not better. If they are aiming for the Paradore clientel they will have to do a lot better than this.
Review 23:The original building had been put to a new use. Good location.
Review 24:Excellent location, got very nice advices from the hotel about hiking tracks, traditional "iberico jambon" and the caves in Aracena. The convent is really nice as well. In low season it really worth the stay!
Review 25:We intended to have dinner there on a Sunday evening. There were very few diners. We waited for about ten minutes and did not see any staff at all in the restaurant and so decided to eat elsewhere. Also when we went to the bar, there were not any bar staff, then we realised that the bar maid was also covering reception. We think they need to employ more staff
Review 26:We liked the way the hotel had been converted from a convent and how it retained some of its original features - even a bell! It was also very convenient for us as we were travelling by bus and it was quite near the bus station. The Reception staff were also very helpful and encouraged us to try out our pigeon Spanish.
Review 27:Wifi practically non existent in rooms, paid extra for spa, arrived to find no spa appointments available 'til following day when we were leaving, refused to refund the cost of the spa because 'we have to pay booking.com a commission on the booking'
Review 28:Great location , lovely rooms friendly staff (for the most part) ans decent restaurant.
Review 29:We really liked the beautiful tasteful conversion from a convent to a hotel in particular the elegant public rooms. The reception staff were especially helpful and friendly. We had a very comfortable well appointed bedroom. It was really one of the loveliest hotels we have ever stayed in!
Review 30:Room very comfortable Pool superb The excellent restaurant manager explained the food choice which was fantastic! Location fab, Fair was on in town so a great atmosphere, Staff friendly..great time!
Review 31:Unfortunately do not go in July or August far too hot to walk far.
Review 32:Position was convenient to visit the area. Easy walking through town for different priced eating and drinking
Review 33:Wifi cannot penetrate such thick walls, no matter, ok outside room
Review 34:The blend of the old convent and the recent renovation/extension work. Attentive staff, excellent choice of breakfast and top class evening meal.
Review 35:The restaurant served tiny portions and was not at all good value for money. What I would suggest is that people go to the venta de aracena, just as you come into the town. The food there is delicious and typical and good value.
Review 36:Lovely rooms and balcony, very pleasant staff, very nice location, good price for what we got.
Review 37:The whole experience from booking in to checking out was fabulous. Very welcoming at Reception, the suite was lovely with all the facilities one would expect. The bed was comfortable. Breakfast was very good and the location was good for a short stroll into the town.
Review 38:Beautifully preserved convent. Luxury, comfortable and clean rooms, very attentive staff good choice breakfast and excellent location

Review 58:I liked everytthing.
Review 59:The hotel is magnificent and central.
Review 60:nothing
Review 61:everything. Location, building, room, pool, breakfast.........
Review 62:The colour scheme especially in the entrance and lounges is so terribly bleak and depressing! Stark and uninteresting.
Review 63:The bedroom was comfortable.
Review 64:Architecture and decoration. Nicely rebuilt and very comfortable, clean atmosphere.
Review 65:IT WAS VERY RELAXING
Review 66:THE RAIN THAT WEEKEND AND POOR TV
Review 67:THE HOTEL
Review 68:The attention to detail
Review 69:Nothing
Review 70:Comfortable room in spacious, tastefully renovated/integrated surroundings. The hotel is in the heart of the really pleasant town. An excellent base from which to explore the Sierra. We can recommend La Casa Grande restaurante nearby but take a jumper on a cool evening...no heating and high ceilings
Review 71:Historical old buildings reformed into a beautiful hotel with all modern comfort. Great architects work. The new cook we know from another restaurant. For sure another big plus.
Review 72:This is an absolutely beautiful hotel in an historic building, a former convent. The room was gorgeous with a view of the castle above the town from our window. The hotel staff was so gracious and professional. The dinner was excellent with delicious food and fine wine. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend a visit to Aracena and the Hotel Convento Aracena for a very special experience.
Review 73:- Suboptimal for families with small children and for stays in the off season. The indoor pool is part of the Spa, requires additional payment for access, and is not accessible for children < 8 years of age - our room, as many others, was located towards the street, which was, despite the seemingly remote location, quite loud - Aracena (including the vast majority of restaurants and sights) are about 1km away - WLAN does not work for any Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, Mac), which is a known problem that, for whatever reason, can apparently not be fixed. We tried with all three devices without success. Staff confirmed that this is a known problem - the room was not very clean (fingernails on the floor)
Review 74:- we stayed in the Junior Suite, which was a very nice room - the entrance of the hotel, a former chapel, is beautiful
Review 75:check out very slow with only one person working, signing inside lacks some direction as it is like a warren. breakfast not too exciting
Review 76:the atmosphere is incredible, rooms were small but satisfactory, in summer it will be nice to use the pool, staff very helpfull
Review 77:We stayed in a ground floor room with one small window that gives out on a patio. Felt a bit dark and claustrofobic on a sunny day. Cool room during hot summer days. Better take an upstairs room with a view and more light.
Review 78:Very modern and comfortable hotel in a converted monastry. Walking distance from city center.
Review 79:everything
Review 80:Loved the location and the pool was super.
Review 81:No wifi access on the room
Review 82:Location Free parking Contemporary design on an ancient building
Review 83:Comfy bed, very beautiful, excellent services.
