Reviews for First Hotel Kong Frederik
Review 1:The nightclub across the road can be very noisy, we had to be moved to a back room which was ok but the room was smaller and obviously didn't have a street view, but that was ok as at least we could sleep. The central atrium area could be used a little more proactively it seemed like a bit of a dead space. The free tea and coffee machine was great however for most of our stay it was constantly breaking. only other thing is the bath tub was very strange we had to perform what can only be described as yoga in order to have a shower.
Review 2:The hotel is a wonderful place, it is in a great location, it is nice and warm and the staff are wonderful. I will stay again
Review 3:The staff charged my card after I left for €200.00 without my autherization then just stopped replying when I ask for a refund.. Don't give them your card details!
Review 4:Very very very poor I paid extra for this hotel over the others it looks so nice. But I was very upset with the quality and the staff
Review 5:In an old building they are stuck with the layout but we were surprised with the small rooms for the price. There was a smell of drains coming from bathroom - overheard other guests asking at reception about this so obviously a problem in other rooms. No tea or coffee making facilities in room.
Review 6:Near train station and Tivoli Gardens
Review 7:Hotel was a little warm, made it a little uncomfortable at night but not too bad
Review 8:Staff were friendly and helpful. Hotel was beautiful, and the restaurant was great!!
Review 9:The room was way too hot! And the fan did not help that much. We had a four month old baby with us, and it was diffucult to put her to sleep beacause of the heat.
Review 10:The staff did an excellent job, the breakfast was very good and the beds were nice!
Review 11:Value for money - not so great. Room and bathroom were small-ish, no kettle in the room (which is now such a norm in Europe they even place it in the south), also no slippers. These things are a must for 4 stars.
Review 12:Location is great, so was the breakfast (lots of bacon, I hate it when hotels skimp on the bacon). The lobby was also good for meetings, including the complimentary coffee machine. Bedding has been comfortable, overall the room design is classy and stylish.
Review 13:Most of the rooms look onto an internal atrium and are without natural ventilation or a view. It was unbearably hot and there is no means of controling the temperature. It is also ridiculously noisy with all the sounds of the atrium passing up into the room through the single glazed window, making it difficult to sleep. Having paid a lot for the room I would expect a lot more. Dont stay here!
Review 14:Reception staff were polite and helpful
Review 15:Rooms very disappointing. Really should have been refurbished.. The online description and photos of the rooms were not an accurate description of the reality.
Review 16:Bathrooms could use a facelift and if you stay near the front on Friday or Saturday night, bring earplugs, as the gay bar across the street will keep you awake until it closes at 5 a.m.
Review 17:Staff was incredible. Food was excellent. Location was perfect.
Review 18:We were very happy with everything until we went to bed and found the room unbearably warm. There was no windows which opened on to the outside, just to an atrium which provided no relief. Fans were pointless and noisy.
Review 19:Really nice hotel in a great location and free coffee and tea machine. Shame about room temperature.
Review 20:The basic room is indeed basic, facing a gloomy courtyard with ventilation noise. Lost reservation.
Review 21:Super central location. Nice common areas. Good breakfast. Lively and friendly Italian in-house restaurant. Cleanliness.
Review 22:No bad experieces
Review 23:- location is perfect. Next to the big shoppingdistrict and 5 min walking from central station. - staff was very friendly. - my room was super clean. Nothing to complain
Review 24:Broken tiles in the bathroom, smudges on the walls, dust in the corners of the room, elevator running only on the room key - but not having the battery to read it, hence not really running smooth
Review 25:Food at the breakfast table was of high quality, although the selection was not really vast
Review 26:I found hotel over priced for what is a small room with a tiny bathroom - breakfast was very disappointing. Had a room at the front of the hotel that was noisy in the evening with the nightlife then in the morning with lorry deliveries. There are much better hotels in the city centre at a much cheaper rate - will not ever stay in this hotel again.
Review 27:This hotel is all about a central city centre location
Review 28:No parking in front of the hotel and the parking lot was about 700m from the hotel.
Review 29:We received an upgrade to a executive room for free. Near the trivoli gardens and other atractions.
Review 30:The room was dirty... worse I have ever been in. Mold in the grout of the Bath Shower....disgusting. Picked up the telephone to call downstairs and the handset was filthy.... had not been wiped off in probably months on end. Room was dark and dingy. Furniture was depressing and poorly decorated. I didn't want to walk on the Brown shag carpet without shoes on!! Just a horrible experience. Had we known that the rooms were so poor at this Hotel, we would have gladly paid more for better conditions. Downstairs Lobby area was fine. This Hotel Needs a room re-decoration and staff trained to do a better Job of cleaning. Never seen a Hotel bathroom with mold before....
Review 31:The staff is excellent. The Italian Restaurant located in the Hotel is excellent. The Breakfast was also very good.
Review 32:Not what expected. Dark and small room, while the pictures online show spacious, luxury and beautiful rooms. Bathroom needs a little renovation. In general not the best price and quality relationship.
Review 33:Good location.
Review 34:The hotel had modern efficiency and comfort without losing its old-world charm. The room was spacious, comfortable and quiet, and the free beverages in the mini-bar much appreciated. The self-serve coffee and tea service in the lobby was a welcome feature. Staff were courteous and very helpful. Excellent value for the price.
Review 35:Cleanliness of the room is not enough. Dirty carpets. Generally the hotel is old.
Review 36:Location, breakfast, staff and free wifi. Free mini bar. Also coffee machine in the entrence.
Review 37:Once a grand hotel I'm sure, it's starting to get a little run down. Bathroom sink cracked. No aircon in rooms meant very stuffy with no air flow
Review 38:Great location. Close to everything
Review 39:Rooms were gloomy, small & windows could not open fully- was told due to security & it was hot n stuffy those 2 days we were there!
Review 40:Location & breakfast
Review 41:For the price it's mad that breakfast is not included. It's the only hotel I have ever stayed in where breakfast is not included to hotel guests.
Review 42:Location is superb.
Review 43:1) Dust visible on carpets - first two inches from wall had lots of dust. I showed a photo to front desk clerk who said the room would be cleaned but no improvement 2) One of two elevators stopped working 3) Room and dining interior banged up and needing refresh 4) Shower's standing area too small to comfortably stand
Review 44:Breakfast, lobby and location
Review 45:Front desk staff. There was some confusion with the reservation in booking.com and front desk lady was not very professional in solving it.
Review 46:Really good location
Review 47:The beds are to tiny, and with no air conditioning it was extremely hot in the room. The little fan did not help much, and there was no suitable place to put it.
Review 48:Location is excellent. Right next to the Stroget yet far enough to be quiet at night.
Review 49:It was a few hot days, and the room was extremely warm during the night, the lack of air conditioning made the nights hot, humid and sweaty, we had trouble sleeping. There's also a nightclub across the street, and there was a lot of noise coming in during the night. During the second night we couldn't sleep until after 5 in the morning when the street emptied of the people outside smoking and making lots of noise, it was basically like trying to sleep in a large crowd of people, as the windows didn't really block much of the noise. My 7 year old wasn't really happy about that and the day after suffered as a consequence.
Review 50:Location was excellent, close to busses and downtown, Room was nice
Review 51:Located in an excellent central spot. Staff are friendly and helpful. The wifi works perfectly, the room was comfy and beautifully decorated and breakfast was delicious!
Review 52:Checkout at 12n going to port to join the RCC cruise. Called the hotel just before sailing and reported I left 1 beige trouser inside the closet. Front desk said will check but no further updated since. Could have picked up after the cruise.
Review 53:Clean and quiet rooms close to city and shops
Review 54:The first room they gave us was very warm, had no ventilation and no A/C. It backed on to an industrial alley. Ugly and hot. The second room they gave us was in the front of the hotel and had much better ventilation. The downside here was that it was a noisy street.
Review 55:Breakfast buffet was outstanding.
Review 56:Our room overlooked the interior courtyard and was very warm.
Review 57:The location was wonderful. I liked that free coffee, hot chocolate, etc. was available near the courtyard.
Review 58:Room very hot. No air conditioning. Just a fan. Were up on Floor 5 so very warm.
Review 59:Fab location. Nice area.Very close to the shopping street and central station nearby.
Review 60:Good location, very friendly staff & well appointed room with comfy bed. Arrived late evening so ate in hotel restaurant. Good food but bit pricey as was the wine and beer but seems typical of prices in Copenhagen.
Review 61:Not enough lighting, very poor. Can't open the blinds as people from next door can see you. Bath room is very dangerous to get in & out. We can manage but older people can't manage for sure.
Review 62:Staff at the reception is very friendly & helpful.
Review 63:Wifi was intermittent Single duvets on a double bed?! Bath has a step within it which makes it very awkward and dangerous. The rooms at the front of the hotel are noisy, music from clubs blaring until 4am even through closed windows. We mentioned it to the reception staff who just shrugged and said 'yes we know'. No warning that it is a problem on the website.
Review 64:Excellent breakfast
Review 65:Dirty wardrobe, tiny bathroom without natural lights and broken steam vents, moulded tile joints, view onto ventilation shafts right in front of the only 2 windows into the shabby inner court yard, 1 English channel (BBC North America), 1 German, 1 French, 1 Spanish, 13 Danish - and that for the superior wedding room at € 165 per night.
Review 66:Location is good, but it seems they rest on these laurels
Review 67:Hotel Kong Frederik is in reality two hotels, it is joined with former Hotel Hafnia next door. Hotel Hafnia had terrible fire in 1973 where 35 persons died. I stayed 6 nights in the Hafnia part. First night I got a very small double room, but got that upgraded by a friendly and helpful staff, to a bigger double room when I pointed out how many night I was going to stay. As the buildings are over 100 years old and although they have been renovated, some things that are normal in newer hotels to day, can not be implied. Many guests have complained about there is no AC, the rooms are probably a bit “stuffy” if there is a heatwave, but during winter there is a good central heating. The soundproofing of rooms is not very good, and the noise from the Gay Bar across the street can be annoying during the weekend, but perfectly quite during the week. Rooms and bathrooms were clean. The bathtubs are not ordinary bathtubs but “sitting-tubs” and it takes a bit of “acrobatic” to take a shower standing in the small and narrow lower part of the tub. The WiFi has been improved lately with new routers. Ping: 24ms Down: 11,6Mbps Up:12,14Mbps. Hotel Kong Frederik has one important thing going for it: The location, next to Ströget and “everything”. Although a bit expensive considered what you get in room comfort and luxury, you get it rewarded in paying less for taxis and public transport. The Italian style breakfast is simply fantastic, but you pay for it almost like a dinner in nearby restaurants. As said before, the location is the main plus for Hotel Kong Frederik. The main train station (Hovedbanegarden), Tivoli and Sightseeing buses, all within walking distance. Taxis are terribly expensive in Denmark so you save a lot by being central. For staying 2-3 nights in Copenhagen, I would recommend Hotel Kong Frederik.
Review 68:Furnishings in the room could really benwfit from a renovation.
Review 69:Breakfast was really successful.of course it would have been much better had it been uncludes in the room price..
Review 70:The bathroom. It's such a shame to be so pleased about a hotel room, until you open the bathroom door and are faced with a clammy, damp smelling, mould infested bathroom. The tiles were absolutely covered in mould, which gives the impression that the bathroom is dirty and you desperately don't want to touch anything. Not great when you have a 2 year old with you. We were shocked because it's certainly a 4* hotel in all other aspects, but the bathroom felt like something from a poorly looked after hostel. If there's no extractor fan to extract the steam, then an investment in wet boards should be made.
Review 71:Most features of this hotel are spot on: staff, comfort, facilities, a lovely sleeping area etc.
Review 72:Felt somewhat impersonal. No effective temperature control in the bedroom which was far too hot.
Review 73:Great choice at breakfast Very central location Wi-Fi worked well Access to a PC Complementary coffee Newspapers provided Comfortable lounge area Stocked mini fridge and safe in bedroom
Review 74:We liked our room very much, accept that that we noticed the street noise in the late evening and early am. I had requested a quiet room when making the reservation. In the future will always ask if the request was honored. We liked our room and if we had stayed another night, may have asked to move to one of the inner courtyard rooms.
Review 75:Didn't realise no air con in room so was very warm and had to use the fans provided. Also would have liked kettle so that we could have tea in room.
Review 76:Great location, very friendly staff. And free minibar was great :) And enormous bathroom!
Review 77:There was a repair in the lobby during my staying (lot of water on the floor), bathroom wall need repair, wifi worked extremely bad.
Review 78:Location in the center of the city, high-qualified staff on reception, cozy and clean room.
Review 79:This hotel is in poor and uninteresting location . Is appallingly understaffed and completely lacks any service , If you are a tourist do not expect any assistance in any way
Review 80:the size of the room
Review 81:I unfortunately we were there during a heat wave and although there were fans in the room it was rather hot.
Review 82:Location being near the train station and pedestrian walking area
Review 83:The only slight negative is that the hot food at breakfast is not really hot.... just warm. The bread was fantastic though. Eggs, bacon, sausage were warmish, not hot.
Review 84:We could walk from the train station. We took the train from the airport. We walked about 5 or 6 blocks to the property pulling our suitcases. Ladies at the front desk were friendly and efficient. We got into our room by noon. It is within a block of the end of the walking commercial area, the stroget. The rooms, hallways and lobby area were clean. Our personal room and bathroom were clean. We stayed 3 nights and had a good time. Wifi was slow but at least it was free.
Review 85:Roasting hot room no air con and even with window open and fan on was so hot couldn't sleep. No safety box and bathroom was dirty with no shelf space for cosmetics. Shame about room as rest of hotel lovely.
Review 86:Hotel and restaurant lovely. Great staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 87:booking.com customer service doesn't exist. when I'm asking for A they answer C. absolutely rubbish. I'm moving all hotels arrangements away.
Review 88:all good
Review 89:slow internet, no air conditioning (the temperatures were cool so this was not a problem but travelers should be aware if the weather is warm)
Review 90:great location, close to the central railway station, clean hotel, friendly staff, elevator
Review 91:The rooms have no AC. This is probably not a big deal for most of the year in Copenhagen, but it was for us as it happened to be quite toasty during our stay. The room we stayed has an interior window that opened up into the atrium. The atrium ceiling is glass and can be opened to let in fresh air. At night they would close this trapping all the heat in the attrium which caused all the upper rooms to be warm. After a couple restless nights we asked them to leave them open during the night and they did so. That helped cool the room down a lot.
Review 92:This hotel has a nice location that is only a short walk to Tivoli. It's also close to the university where a number of good eats can be found. The hotel itself has a classic charm to it.
Review 93:The only comment I have that is negative is that without air con and or windows that open up into fresh air, my rooms was very stuffy.
Review 94:The staff were lovely, having the bikes for hire made things really easy. The location was excellent for everything I wanted to see and do. The hotel was pretty, the restaurant and bar were great, lovely food at breakfast and for dinner.
Review 95:The wifi connection was too poor, i couldnt Connect, and the shower in my room was leaking water... So there was no pressure in the water at all.. The area is a bit noisy, with buses passing by all the time.. It wasn't possible to sleep with the window open.
Review 96:The room was Nice! Big & Good bed. The room had two Window/balconys which i loved! Breakfast was Good, and the restaurant was beautifully decorated.. Staff was Nice.. :)
Review 97:Bathroom was really unusual ...probably for old or handicapped people . Room was really small ..the king bed takes 1/2 of the room :((
Review 98:Breakfast was really good
Review 99:Didn't like the shower. The lack of a door to the shower caused it to splash out onto the bathroom floor.
Review 100:Enjoyed how convenient this hotel was located to the walking mall. Nice and quiet.
Review 101:Noise. The restraunt attached to hotel "the Itailian" , the food was very good. There were a group of four of us (very quiet). We made a 6:30 reservation and while we were about to order dessert, we were told we needed to hurry up due to the table being reserved by another party at 8. We could not believe it. The table should be yours untill you leave.
Review 102:Location and staff.
Review 103:Very small and rather old fashioned room. Front staff not really knowledgeable about the city (e.g. where to go jogging) Breakfast buffet rather limited and without day-to-day variation
Review 104:Location, location, location Very quiet room (on the backside) Security
Review 105:Dingy towels, waterproof covering on bed top uncomfortable wifi not reliable in rooms. Good in lobby
Review 106:Excellent location. Helpful staff Refined lobby historical feel Great breakfast at adjoining restaraunt The Italian
Review 107:Room quite dark. "bathtub" and shower combination difficult and even dangerous. Cleanliness could be improved also.
Review 108:Breakfast and location very good.
Review 109:Very small bedroom and bathroom. Too hot. Only 3 hangers in wardrobe. Drinking glasses in room not changed during 3 night stay. Should have advised booking for restaurant given how busy it is.
Review 110:Good location. Free soft drink mini bar. Free coffee in lobby. Free wifi ( would be even better if didn't have to keep logging back in). Helpful & pleasant staff.
Review 111:Very thin mattress, bathroom seemed shabby, we were on the 5th floor and lift stopped working 2 days before the end of our stay
Review 112:Good location, friendly staff and impressive communal areas
Review 113:Wifi service in the room is very poor, works well on the lobby.
Review 114:Good, cosy, located in the city centre. Staff is very welcoming and efficient. The rooms are ok in terms of comfort and cleaning. The Italian restaurant at street level is incredible!
Review 115:All bathrooms stink, our bedroom door did not close we had to move, wifi so slow could not check my emails....
Review 116:Nice staff, traditional architecture, well located in center
Review 117:We were in rm 421 (a so called deluxe room). It was a large L-shaped room but it was very dark and overlooked the atrium within which noise from the reception was amplified.
Review 118:The bed was very very comfortable and the complimentary (soft drinks) minibar was a nice touch.
Review 119:We had a room facing the courtyard and it was a bit loud in the middle of the night and early in the morning, but nothing that would prevent us from staying here again.
Review 120:The location was excellent for sightseeing at Tivoli and walking tours of Copenhagen. We loved the breakfast and the service from all staff we encountered was fantastic.
Review 121:Somehow the thermostat was set way too high, with no possibility to lower the temperature in the room (the window opened to an indoor courtyard, so no relief from the cold weather outside)
Review 122:I've stayed several times before at this hotel, and I really like it in general.
Review 123:The walls are very thin & you can hear everything in the next room. Many of the rooms also open up into the courtyard that echoes very loudly, so if you want quiet, request a room that doesn't open up to the courtyard.
Review 124:The rooms were very comfortable & clean. The location was excellent. Free coffee a nice touch, too.
Review 125:Our room was very hot even thought it was mid October. We overlooked the atrium which made it quiet but hard to get fresh air
Review 126:A central location made it an easy walk to see the sights and get to the railway station. Always good to have complimentary tea/coffee machine!
Review 127:Great location, close to everything in the old part of town, close to train station and Tivoli. Salik and Linda in the reception were extremely professional, helpful and pleasant. Charming single room on the 5th floor overlooking the roof tops, great Dux bed. I would stay here again.
Review 128:Walking up five flights of stairs due to both lifts breaking. But you just get on with it and make an adventure of it. I pretended i was in a music video and was being filmed while singing and walking through abandoned corridors and stairwells.
Review 129:I liked everything about the hotel. Friendly team, clean room and public areas. I liked how the restaurant felt like a restaurant and not a place where guests eat their breakfast.
Review 130:It took about 10 min to check me in due to computers not working properly. Rather expensive at 195 EUR a night, although Copenhagen is generally very expensive. Bathroom, while very large, looked a bit like a hospital / student dorm bathroom (all white tiles, no shower cabin, just a curtain)
Review 131:Staff are very nice, they went the extra mile to help me recover a sweater that i had left in the adjoining restaurant. Location is fantastic, very close to almost all attractions, 5 mins walk from Tivoli and the main square (i never had to use public transport once in my 3 days in Copenhagen). Breakfast is good, as is the food at the Italian restaurant Minibar is complimentary (no alcoholic drinks)
Review 132:No air conditioning meant that the room was very hot and uncomfortable. We opened windows to let in some air but the noise outside prevented us from sleeping. We heard an American guest also complain that a 4-star hotel should provide air conditioning. The bathroom was small and getting out of the small shower was dangerous as one could not shower without water all over the floor.
Review 133:The staff were very helpful and friendly. Very comfortable bedding.
Review 134:I didn't like having to log on to wifi every time I wanted the Internet. It was frustrating.
Review 135:We liked the size of the standard room and we especially liked the free minibar and coffee and tea making facilities. I don't drink either so was the first good hot chocolate that I had in 3 weeks in Scandinavia.
Review 136:If you must have air conditioning this might not be the place for you. For us the fan provided was enough.
Review 137:Staff was more than helpful; the room was large with plenty of room for the extra bed; the bed was extremely comfortable
Review 138:Copenhagen is a wonderful, friendly city with lots to do and see. Kong Frederik offered a very comfortable environment with a great feeling, wonderful staff and excellent food from which to base ourselves.
Review 139:No air conditioning! Room was located in the interior garden! Not on the exterior of the building, so the air coming in the room was coming from the interior!
Review 140:Very hot room; noise carried from downstairs courtyard through central atrium; breakfast a bit too expensive for us.
Review 141:Beautifully restored building with original detail; light and spacious room; free hot drinks in foyer; huge bathroom.
