Reviews for Hotel am Markt
Review 1:Restaurant for dinner - quite "basic menu"
Review 2:Very nice welcoming people Nice breakfast Ideal situation near the Rhein Restaurant is quite "old fashioned" but rooms are brand new and perfect in terms of confort and equipment
Review 3:Reception was rude and not helpful. Hotel was nearly empty but we were put on fourth floor; very steep and narrow stairs. Breakfast was marginal.
Review 4:Great place to start a day cruise on the Rhein.
Review 5:Our room had a view of the parking lot and the room was a bit stark. Some colorful prints of the lovely Rhine valley on the walls, a runner on the cold wood floor will brighten the place. Old building, so walking up stairs with bags seems a given...
Review 6:We reached the hotel at 11 after a lovely cruise through Mid Rhine valley from Bingen to St Goar. We had taken the 7.16 train from Frankfurt flughafen to Bingen and after a walk through the grape plantations, boarded the KD cruise at 9.20 and had an awesome cruise . The hotel is right next to the pier and is very convenient. The town church is right behind the hotel and the train station is behind the church. We lugged our bags up 2 floors and then left to buy our mini group ticket for VRM, the tariff association for the Koblenz area… €21.80 for a "mini-group ticket" or "mini-gruppenkarte" (a day pass really) from the ticket machine at the train station. Now the entire day/s travels were free for the both of us. We had earlier got a 20% discount on the cruise tickets by showing our train tickets... Germany has neat little ways to economise on travels... We took the ferry to St Goarshausen, took the train to Braubach, hiked up to Marksburg castle, took a German tour inside, then took a train to Koblenz and then down to Boppard. Enjoyed strolling the promenade and the local bands in the market square, watched the awesome fireworks at 9pm, before returning to our hotel. Next day we hiked to Rheinfels and enjoyed the awesome views before catching our onward train to Cologne. This hotel was a very good base for all these activities. The breakfast is awesome, view is great from the breakfast room.
Review 7:was treated like we were not wanted by the guy who checked us in(older man wearing a hat) oh you booked with booking.com you are on the third floor and there's no lift. we did request a garage space and a bath but got neither because as he said we had booked with Booking.com as if we was cheap. My mum is 73 and found it very hard with the stairs and we stayed 5 nts here. TV was only German channels no English at all in the room.
Review 8:very central, friendly staff and excellent food could not fault it
Review 9:No lift, only narrow staircase which makes it hard with cases.Thankfully we were on 1st floor
Review 10:Location on Rhine good , but not directly overlooking water. Food in restaurant ' old German' excellent
Review 11:The Wi-Fi did not work, and was hard to find anywhere in St. Goar. We would have like to have an elevator, or at least choice of a room, on a lower floor.
Review 12:Great location, easy walking distance to everything. Very good breakfast.
Review 13:Our only complaint was the carpets were old and dirty.
Review 14:Hotel was on a beautiful cobble lane with many little shops. Our room had an amazing view of the River. We also loved the smell of wonderful foods being prepared in the restaurant below.
Review 15:WiFi did not work. Personnel smoked on the veranda while people were sitting and drinking. Personnel did not sprak or understand german.
Review 16:Rooms were o.k.
Review 17:Great location, very short walk to boat cruise's. A great place to base yourself to explore this area of the Rhine. Very short walk to cruise boat's.
Review 18:Staff a little 'gruff' Make sure you find out if there is late and loud live music in the square outside (part Fri/Sat) nights... It would've been nice if someone had told us as we were up early to cycle the Rhine!
Review 19:Clean and comfortable room Excellent spot at the heart of St Goar 15min walk to Castle Hotel restaurant is a favourite with all the locals Great value for money
Review 20:None really, food good value and church bells were very subdued, open windows perfectly possible. St Goar a bit quiet due to small size.
Review 21:Right on a small riverside square, next to the boat stops. Ate dinner on hotel's raised veranda with all the action and a world class view in front. Magnificent location. Room view great.
Review 22:Top floor was not air conditioned and room was small. We were able to open the windows and a nice breeze kept us cool. I would recommend booking early to get better room choice. Wi fi was slow during peak times of use.
Review 23:Convenient to the river and just steps from the railroad station, we were able to easily see all the sights along the Rhine by boat, road, and train. Owners were very accommodating with parking, laundry, and information about the local area. Nice breakfast area and plenty of restaurants nearby also.
Review 24:Sadly, there is road works nearby which spoiled the aesthetics a bit. Also the shower was a bit weak.
Review 25:Lovely location right on the Rhine but right in the town.
Review 26:Everything was perfect.
Review 27:Excellent and helpful staff. I booked a room facing the Rhine River. Beautiful views and clean room. The toilet was impeccable. Location is very central and perfect to enjoy the Rhine river. We would definitely recommend this hotel to all travelers and come back ourselves too.
Review 28:They made a mistake with their booking system and gave us a twin room instead of the double we booked. However room was ok. A smile would have been nice. The waiters needed more training at waiting! No receipt given when we paid.
Review 29:Convenient location, comfortable room, good breakfast.
Review 30:There were no toiletries, the toilet brush was absolutely filthy, the toilet seat was loose. The WIFI did not work anywhere.
Review 31:The best we can come up with is the central location to the town
Review 32:We arrived by train and although it is a short walk to the hotel we got a bit lost trying to find the hotel using the back roads. I suggest walking straight down to the Rhine and then looking for the hotel.
Review 33:This is a quaint hotel in a very quaint little town. Everything about Sankt Goar is charming. We particularly enjoyed dinner and breakfast at the hotel's comfortable restaurant.
Review 34:The Bells. It took a couple of nights to get used to them!
Review 35:Very clean; friendly staff. Good location; so convenient for exploring the magnificent Rhine Valley.
Review 36:The hotel was renovating when I stayed, so there was a strong ink smell. The room did not have courtains, so I woke up at 6am after a very poor sleep because there was a public light in front of my window.
Review 37:Excelent location and very good breakfast, with many options. Great view also.
Review 38:Some hesitation about paying by credit card on arrival. Credit card not accepted in the restaurant.
Review 39:Location was perfect, there was free parking close by and the breakfast was excellent with plenty of choice.
Review 40:Everything was as we hoped it would be.Recommended highly.
Review 41:Super position, lovely people, food, excellent breakfast and garage parking.super view of the church and river. No rail noise so a restful night in a lovely room.

Review 43:Food in restaurant was excellent
Review 44:Pillows a tad uncomfotable but a minor complaint really

Review 53:Wifi
Review 54:Location
Review 55:Beautiful location and charming place.
Review 56:Room gets either too hot or too noisy (if windows open).
Review 57:Very nice view of the river.
Review 58:Location, nice shops, sunny, convenient
Review 59:The rooms are dated (late 70s early 80s)
Review 60:The outside eating area and some of the food
Review 61:The parking garage is tricky to exit. You have to back up a hill and dodge congested cars parked all over.
Review 62:The river view and the walk along it.
Review 63:No signs of shower gel.
Review 64:Service were pleasant and kind.
Review 65:Terrrible road rebuilding spoilt a place that is probably beautiful
Review 66:hotel in absolute centre, on river.
Review 67:Location, Hospitality of owner. he have changed our room from double bed to 2 single bed room. Room is very clean and nice.
Review 68:Windows allowed the street lights in. So the room was not dark at all and was too bright for a good nights sleep.
Review 69:The young man who helped us was exceptional!
Review 70:Very good attention, the lady extended the check in time, waiting for us at late night, very kind.
Review 71:The light bulb in the bathroom was very weak.
Review 72:Excellent breakfast, central location, nice surroundings
Review 73:had to park 3 blocks away
Review 74:EVERY THING EXCEPT Parking
Review 75:Noisy despite double glazing. Very bad smell of sewer in the bathroom.
Review 76:Nice corner room with views on the river. Friendly, helpful staff.
Review 77:Although booking was secured by Visa payment had to be made by cash only. A bit misleading.
Review 78:The housekeeping maid just entered the room without knocking in a very inconvenient moment.
Review 79:The view from the hotel is amazing and the food very good.
Review 80:Wi-fi did not work in room and very inconsistent in common areas. Breakfast average.
Review 81:View from room of Rhine and castle (Burg Katz) across the river. Quiet at night. Fan in room.
