Reviews for Hotel Rural Orotava
Review 1:Arriving by car can be a bit of a hassle since the hotel is situated on a very narrow street with no parking (a common situation in La Orotava) and guests who have reserved parking (provided free) must collect a remote gate controller from reception. Best solution might be to send someone in to collect the fob whilst the driver goes round the block a couple of times. If you are alone try to find somewhere to park temporarily - good luck!
Review 2:This hotel has friendly, helpful staff. It is spotlessly clean and the restaurant - situated in the courtyard of the hotel - is probably as good as any in the town.
Review 3:Not easy to drop off baggage because of location and this could have been mentioned beforehand. However, staff very helpful and free parking available just a short distance away.
Review 4:Lovely building in old town Orotava.
Review 5:Staff extremely helpful and friendly. Food delicious. Hotel itself typical old Canarian, totally different from any normal hotel. You would normally pay to walk round a house like this! I have stayed with young family also and everyone loved it.
Review 6:If I had any criticism it would be that it would have been nice to have a member of staff around for breakfast to refresh the coffee etc. Also the restaurant food was great but the room was very cold and I ended up sitting in my coat which was not very condusive to a relaxing dinner!
Review 7:beautiful old traditional property. Lovely old room with traditional furniture, friendly and very helpful staff.
Review 8:Cold and drafty. Restaurant closed for all but the first night of our stay and no hotel staff around at all. We returned to total darkness each evening. We were not told about this at check in (We do speak Spanish).
Review 9:Large room with comfortable bed. Staff helpful when we could find them.
Review 10:- take warm clothes, as it is cold in the courtyard/ breakfast room
Review 11:- the old fashioned interior: it was like sleeping in a museum. - friendliness - food in the restaurant - comfortable bed. - great location in old centre
Review 12:The room, although big, was quite dark. The biggest problem was the noise. Music from the courtyard was played for most of the afternoon and it felt like there was a band right in the bedroom. We had an "issue" on Christmas eve where a family fiesta (not ours) got way out of control and not a single member of staff was actually at the hotel. This is a nice place but probably more accurately described as a b&b. If you are expecting the professionalism of a hotel you will be disappointed here.
Review 13:Beautiful old building, nice courtyard, good location for exploring the region for a couple of days.
Review 14:A bit cold in dining room and salon. A shame because these rooms are so lovely. Owners need to think of perhaps portable heating when it is cold. Too much traffic on narrow streets in the town of Last Orotava and could hear traffic in our bedroom.
Review 15:Bedroom and other rooms. Furniture. Staff very pleasant.
Review 16:The wifi and the PC did not work.
Review 17:Staff were very friendly. Room was big and had great charm. The bed was very comfortable. It was clean. Parking facilities were very good.
Review 18:We NEVER got WiFi!! The hotel computer Never worked either. This cost us an extra 100 euros because we could never print our boarding passes!!! The staff went home and the whole building shut down after 10PM---we had our own keys to come and go as we wished, but if we needed anything, no one was there.
Review 19:Staff was friendly, breakfast was plentiful, everything was very clean. Building and patio was beautiful and close to the "casco Viejo".
Review 20:Precioso hotel, agradable personal, entrañables instalaciones, excelente desayuno en marco incomparable
Review 21:very friendly staff quiet place very relaxing
Review 22:No Wi-Fi in the room, average breakfast
Review 23:Nice owners, great location, good restaurant, cosy living room, old historical building
Review 24:We had to leave to come home.
Review 25:Welcoming and friendly staff, wonderful atmosphere. Beautifull building in a lovely location.
Review 26:The hotel is in a lovely village. The building has such charm, so old and special. The staff is friendly and welcoming. We loved it!!
Review 27:Lovely oasis and renovation of great building. Food excellent. Fabulous staff. Nice and very helpful. Quiet location but easy access for walking.
Review 28:Reception, Staff, Restaurant - couldn't upgrade us to the full menu even though we booked half board?
Review 29:Location Room Facilities
Review 30:The historic atmosphere and furniture .And of course the in-house restaurant.
Review 31:Bathrooms need updating
Review 32:Friendly staff and excellent breakfast
Review 33:everything
Review 34:Booking.com price adder of 20 EUR vs direct booking, hair dryer not standard, but could be rented
Review 35:Furniture heating available
Review 36:The dark in the room
Review 37:The building
Review 38:WiFi seemed slow at times
Review 39:location, friendliness of staff
Review 40:Loud street with pavement, A bit to calm in the off-season
Review 41:Excellent rural atmoshere, nice breakfest
Review 42:No shutters o something else to avoid daylight on room
Review 43:Antique furnished rooms The good restaurant
Review 44:The personnel was late to prepare a breakfast, it took much time to wait them in the morning.
Review 45:The hotel is based in the old building of colonial style. The parking was guaranteed.
Review 46:Poor lighting in our bedroom. NB If you are at all disabled (I did know this in advance) the bedrooms are up a flight of stairs, with no lift, and door locks are difficult to operate. We were unlucky with the weather – very wet for at least four days in February – which made a dining room open to the patio cold and draughty in the evenings.
Review 47:Fascinating building. Staff delightful – tirelessly helpful and friendly. Bed comfortable; shower looked antiquated, but was actually very good. Breakfast was plentiful, but we were surprised that the restaurant has been so highly praised; we thought the dinners we ate there were only (and sometimes slightly below) average. If you really want to dine well in La Orotava (especially on Sunday nights when Sabor Canario is closed), book a table round the block at the Hotel Rural Victoria, where the food is superb!
Review 48:We only ate dinner once in the - supposedly excellent - restaurant as the dining room was cold and draughty, the staff were rude and the food very ordinary. Breakfast was effectively an unattended cold buffet of juice, cereals, rolls and and coffee.
Review 49:Old mansion, very sympathetically restored. Plumbing and electrics up to date and effective.
Review 50:Restaurant was close on the evening we were there ( Sunday ). Not many other decent eating choices nearby in Oratava.
Review 51:Character of old building. Good breakfast buffet choices. Good central location for exploring the town. Secure parking arranged in advance ( though 200mtrs away ).
Review 52:On arrival we were shown into a bedroom without a proper window, just having a high-level pane of glass onto the corridor. This room smelt very musty. On requesting a better room, the manager gave us a much better room with a window to the street. La Orotava is situated quite high up which means the climate is a lot cooler than at the coast. This is probably fine for 6 months of the year. We stayed at the end of January. Apart from our bedroom where we had to run the heating all night and in the morning, the rest of the building was extremely cold in particular the breakfast room. Dinner was served in a room without a door where we were so cold even with coats on that we had to gobble up our meal to get back to our warm bedroom.
Review 53:The hotel building is very interesting as a typical old Canarian residence, largely built of timber, with central patio and 1st floor balconies facing into the patio. La Orotava is a lovely town to stay in and the hotel's location is very good.
Review 54:Not a lot, better directions to find the hotel would help. Easy when you know so I will try and help. Hotel Rural is better known by its resturant Sabor Canario. Its located just 50 metres past the Adjunement ,town hall, a large imposing buiding with plaza in front. On left going up a narrow, on way ,cobbled street, just past this is the Hotel. A terraced P ink building. Pparking is very difficult, But the hotel has a perfect secure parking 200 metre up the hill on left. Reserve this when booking! Try to stop to unload and check in, maybe up hill on left is possible for a short time. Hope this helps. Enjoy!
Review 55:Pretty well everthing! This hotel is a rare experience, to live in.a house built in 1600 is a delight for a few days. The room was spacious for 3 of us, period features, and very clean and warm. The resturant was super ,the best in Oratava, lovely food, and fair prices. Staff very friendly and helpful, the manager speaks perfect english. Highly recommended for a stay. I n this delightful and historic town.
Review 56:Room was a bit cold, and the coffee at the breakfast was not good, but the coffee at the bar/ restaurant was great.
Review 57:Nice traditional place near to everything.
Review 58:There was no heating in the restaurant or breakfast room, which is not good in January. Slow service in restaurant Uphill climb to car parking area On narrow one way street which makes loading/unloading difficult. No sound proofing between rooms; room conversion detail poor.
Review 59:The location The restaurant food was excellent Room and reception service were excellent
Review 60:There was no hot water for the shower. No wifi in the room.
Review 61:It is a beautiful and characteristic house with great atmosphere. The breakfast is in a cold but nice part of the house. Good local kitchen. It all adds up to a wonderful experience
Review 62:The hotel was in one of the oldest houses in la Orotava and had been lovingly restored to provide a unique place to stay. It also had a wonderful restaurant where you could eat outside in a lovely courtyard and you helped yourself to breakfast in the old kitchen. Staff very welcoming also
Review 63:The hotel is full of old world charm and character. It was like having a peek into the past and being allowed stay in a museum! Food was excellent, staff friendly and so willing to be of assistance.
Review 64:The hotel is housed in a building which is used for various other purposes - restaurant, bar, meeting venue, staff accommodation, etc. This resulted in a lot of noise - day and night.
Review 65:Building has charm, centrally located, staff generally helpful (although noisy).
Review 66:Nothing
Review 67:Everything!! The people made everyone so welcome, the food was gorgeous, and it was a fantastic experience. The bedroom door was 12 feet high and there was a suit of armour in the lounge - far too many lovely things to list here. You need to go and see for yourself!
Review 68:Navigating the hire car through the 1-way system of Orotrava. Thankfullthat we had pre-downloaded google maps and had gps on the tablet, wouldhave been been a bit difficult without.
Review 69:Hotel in a beatiful historic building right in the historical centre ofLa Orotrava. Lovely room with some antique furniture and breakfast inthe old kitchen. Very convenient base for sightseeing La Orotrava andalso for our day trips to the Teide, hiking in Orotrava valley and visitto Puerto de La Cruz and the Loro Parc. We reserved a car parking spacethrough hotel by emailing them beforehand and this was ideal, about 200metres away and free as we stayed longer than 3 days (and just as wellas on-street parking was difficult and nearby parking garage expensive).Staff of hotel was very helpfull. Three kings parade passing very closeto the hotel on evening of 5th January was a nice surprise.
Review 70:Wifi is not accessible. But there is a public computer running on ubuntu.
Review 71:It's located in the old town. Walk around, you can easily enjoy the beauty of Orotava.
Review 72:Location in former museum. Old style room equipment.
Review 73:none
Review 74:Great breakfast. Staff's English is limited but all are very friendly and have a great attitude. Location is perfect; in the old town.
Review 75:The building is fantastic
