Review 9：The hotel, though surrounded by beautiful mountains, is situated rightnext to a cross-country power line that is visible from nearly allwindows. There is also the issue with staff: we came earlier thanexpected, something that happens frequently when you are traveling largedistances as we did. We were told that our rooms were not ready (whichwas what we expected). What we did not expect was the surliness withwhich staff received us. We were left standing like lost baggage, andthe overall impression to the four of us traveling together was that wewere kind of a nuisance. Even when we returned at the time we were toldto return it took some prodding on my part to get service and to get astaff member to handle the reception work. In the dining room even smallrequests such as pepper for the eggs being served in the morning seemedto befuddle the staff. For us the wandering peppermill (only one for adining room seating 75 people!) became a much laughed about routine inthe morning. For all of us traveling together, two Austrians in theirsixties and two Americans in the same age group, it was obvious that thestaff lacked training in the basics of the hospitality business. With alittle more training for staff members the Gasthof Loewen could be avery positive experience for travelers. The four of us, all experiencedtravelers in terms of geography and the cost scale, would be hardpressed to return to the Loewen. The establishment could benefit fromyour feedback. Food, by the way, was fairly good, but the wine list wasway overpriced.
