Reviews for The Square

Review 1:It was unfortunate that there there was a construction site on the square (for the new underground), so the view wasn't quite as spectacular as it could have been.

Review 2:Very helpful staff. Great location, close to the Tivoli Gardens and station and shopping streets. Amazing views across the town square. We upgraded to a larger room with a small balcony. Good selection for breakfast and great coffee machines in the room and in the restaurant!

Review 3:Our experience with the housekeeping standards was not very good. We had our 2 year old daughter with us so naturally quite a bit of a mess builds up over time and after 4 days staying in the hotel we found that our sheets had not been cleaned, old cups and glasses from room service with spoiled milk from our 1st and 2nd days there still had not been cleaned or removed, coffee and tea sachets had not been replaced, the floors still had crumbs on it, the sheets still had crumbs on it. We had to clean and wash the glasses and cups, clean the crumbs off the bed, toss garbage out our selves in order to have our room up to the level of cleanliness we required. As you can see, we're not the cleanest family in any sense but if I wanted to clean my room myself, I wouldn't be paying 180usd a night in a 4 star hotel, I'd be staying at crappy youth hotel!

Review 4:The Square Hotel is situated right in the heart of where any tourist would ever want to be in Copenhagen with Tivoli a 3 minute walk away and many restaurants (including the church of scientology) right opposite the street or around the corner. The price was quite good and the room was decent.

Review 5:I wasn't feeling well so I was sitting half sleeping in the reception. The staf made sure my room was one of the first to get cleaned so I could get my room 2 hours before promised. :-)

Review 6:Hotel was perfect for what we needed. The reception staff was also very helpful in letting us know what was open for Xmas eve and Xmas day. Location was ace!

Review 7:Everything about this hotel is great.... The room was very comfortable and clean and a good size... The staff are all very helpful and friendly and we will definitely be staying here again....

Review 8:small room for 3 persons beds and couch bed not that comfortable heating didnt work,we were given a portable heater

Review 9:very nice location just by the city centre

Review 10:We got two interconnected rooms which were great, felt like a big apartment. The location is great and most of the main attractions are within walking distance. The reception also gave us umbrellas as it started to rain, nice gesture!

Review 11:Small bar area attached to reception. A little noisy at weekends due to nightclubs next door. Normal standard rooms are small.

Review 12:Good location. Helpful staff.

Review 13:In my bedroom ICould smell bacon cooking at breakfast time., lIFT a bit annoying as you had to pull open the door..not easy with a bag.

Review 14:Location and STYLISHNESS

Review 15:The staff was unhelpful. When I asked for some recommendations about places to visit they said to go to the tourist information center. Really bad service for a 4 stars hotel, the staff isn't only to do check in and check outs but to help customers.

Review 16:Loved the location

Review 17:seems it is an old hotel which got certain superficial upgrades to make it 'design', which does not actually make it 'design'. The rooms however are decent sized and the new furniture and beds are v good. The bathroom shows its age however.

Review 18:centrally located with good access to all transport and other parts of town. room size and rate are v good for being central cph.

Review 19:Small room & small bed, but very clean.

Review 20:Nice canteen for breakfast with wonderful view of surrounding area, good taste of delicious food served! Good staff to provide helpful information!

Review 21:Shower dirty/sink would not empty; Staff tricked me into taking a breakfast without explaining the price (200kr is expensive for what it is); The breakfast isn't worth its price... The Hotel provides a nice bluetooth speaker but sound insulation being very bad, it is very noisy, and so are saturday nights (could not sleep at all).

Review 22:Room relatively spacious Nice blue tooth radio-speaker

Review 23:The decoration in the lobby and all around the hotel for helloween and the hospitality of the staff. Also the rooms have all the requirements and comfort that a traveller is looking for.

Review 24:Only issue was you had to leave an extra security deposit on your room ( extra £60 by card ) which was not mentioned on booking site. Breakfast was overpriced.

Review 25:Location was good. Near train station and local attractions. Everything as expected from this type of hotel.

Review 26:Honestly there wasn't anything we didn't like!

Review 27:The staff was amazing. Very friendly and accommodating. The room was spacious and clean. The location was great and within walking distance of the train station with luggage. For being located on a busy street, it was not too loud at all.

Review 28:We did need to ask for our room to be adjusted slightly so that the twin beds were not put side by side. This was however done, and to our satisfaction!

Review 29:The Square Hotel is in an excellent location, in the centre of Copenhagen. The hotel offers an amazing breakfast each morning - well worth going to this. The Staff were very friendly and really helpful.

Review 30:There was no safe in the room to store valuables although it was possible to use one at the reception area. Room was a bit small!

Review 31:The hotel is in a great location within walking distance to all the main attractions and transport links. The staff were all very helpful, only had breakfast once but there were hot/cold options, not a massive selection but tasty enough. There was a secure luggage room to store suitcases on the day of departure free of charge. Room was cleaned and towels replaced every day. Liked the modern decor.

Review 32:The price of the breakfast, didn't bother as it was far to expensive when there are reasonable priced cafés on the same street.

Review 33:The location is perfect.

Review 34:The price of the hotel was a bit high - or maybe it was just the exchange rate for Canadian dollars at the time.

Review 35:Very convenient location close to the train station and lots of restaurants/pubs within a few minutes walk. Try the Vesterbro Bryghus - good beer, good food and very friendly staff. Just around the corner from the hotel.

Review 36:The 6th floor, that we pay more to be there, is very noisy. Street sound and the bell on the City Hall every hour are really loud. The Magnetic keys stop working all the time. There is no safe in room. When to go back to the airport the receptionist told there was a fix price for the taxi and we have a bad surprise the driver charging as more.

Review 37:The place is very well located.

Review 38:Small room. No parking if you rent a car, however, safe and friendly parking area within 100 feet (no discount offered for hotel guests) Our room did not have a view, but it was quiet.

Review 39:Great location, within walking distance to Stroget shopping street. Welcoming candies, fruits and nuts gave it a nice touch.

Review 40:room was very small even though we booked a superior category room. There was not enough staff at front desk and no concierge so you had to wait in line to ask for directions or for any questions or requests

Review 41:Excellent location, clean

Review 42:check in at 3 pm is a bit too late

Review 43:the location is fantastic! In the very centre of Copenaghen, walking distance to plenty of interesting places to visit

Review 44:A bit costly. The room was noisy during the day due to construction in the neighborhood and because there was a hot sun and no AC, it was necessary to keep the windows open. One unexplained charge appeared on my credit card after checkout. There has not yet been time to determine the nature of the charge. So it should be noted that this issue may be resolved.

Review 45:Location, ambience of hotel.

Review 46:Breakfast was not included in high rate. Bathtub was very deep to get in and out of. View was building across that had bright lights on all night. Elevator operation was silly (had to manually close door and push to open) and small. I often just took the stairs instead of waiting for it, except when I had luggage. Standard room was just right for one person, i think it would be small-ish for 2. Equivalent to U.S 3 star, so quite expensive for this rate.

Review 47:Location was very central and convenient to everything. Could stop by hotel in the middle of day of sightseeing to refresh, if needed. Close enough to walk to Starbucks, Radhuspladsen, Stroget (Pedestrian shopping), bus stop, Central station, TI. Next door to 7-Eleven. Museums, Park, The Lakes all within easy distance. I walked to all these places as well as Nyhavn and Rosenberg Castle. You could also take the bus. Bus 26 to Little Mermaid/DFDS Terminal also stops close by. The staff even provided travel adapter. They also provided free luggage service for the day after checkout, so I could leave my bags until my bus to DFDS terminal at 2, and visit a Glyptoket (which charges per bag).

Review 48:The Hotel on arrival debited my card 400dk as a deposit. This caused acurrency coversion charge of ~ 1.7 Euro. When checking out they thecredited 400dk but I again was hit with a currency conversion so I amover 3 Euro out of pocket. Not happy.BEWARE, no other hotels I have stayed in have done this.

Review 49:Fairly good location

Review 50:The room does not correspond to the pic on the Internet, and the room was closer to a drawer than a real room. No safe, no space. Them arrests was one of the worse in my life. Lots of noise and finally it was not possible to close the curtains and thus the light was entering the room. One of the worse hotel I experience in this range of price in my entire life. I will not use booking.com if the room does not correspond to the pic in the site. Very disappointed

Review 51:The windows giving to the street need to be sound-proof, otherwise it's not easy to sleep because of the constant noise from the traffic of cars and pedestrians.

Review 52:However breakfast was disappointing and overpriced, grab a coffee and croissant in nearby 711 instead.

Review 53:Excellent location, clean and comfortable hotel

Review 54:Very central hotel with good rooms and beds. The rooms are small but comfortable. We found the breakfast a bit messy but there was lots of people and two of the coffee machines did not work. I would advise the hotel to a friend.

Review 55:I booked a single room which was small but adequate. For me, the bed was too soft.

Review 56:The bluetooth speaker in the room was very good and a nice touch. Well located, being within 5 min walk of the station and Tivoli.

Review 57:had a superior room which was not great onto courtyard and aircon did not cool room in hot temp breakfasts where a bun fight and unpleasant

Review 58:my bed and pillows and bed linen

Review 59:There was a great deal of traffic noise. We had read reviews suggesting that this might be a problem for us and so we had requested a room on one of the top floors. However, on arrival we were allocated a room on the first floor.

Review 60:The bed was very comfortable and there were no problems with accessing the free wifi from our room. The location was convenient for the station and bus services.

Review 61:Well, on the first room i had bed bugs, was eaten alive by them, in the morning i went there to change room, and unfortunately, nobody apologized, anything. I got another room while waiting for 4 hours for it. A pity.

Review 62:Nothing

Review 63:The staff were extremely helpful and friendly in spite of the fact they were kept very busy. My request for a quiet room on a high floor was noted and given to me.

Review 64:Understaffed reception made any kind of hospitality impossible for hotel employees. You guys need way more staff at your front desk for a hotel of this size. There were large groups swarming the lobby, waiting to check in or out. I felt awful for your workers.

Review 65:Breakfast, fast wifi

Review 66:Very expensive for a run down room. This is the equivalent of a Holiday Inn in the USA. I completely regret spending as much as I did

Review 67:The reception/ check in staff are VERY friendly and helpful . Great location , very secure hotel.

Review 68:breakfast needed to be better organized self service long queues for all beverages, most of breakfast items you had to cut for your self example bread, cheese and other items ect, this cause long queues

Review 69:great location and excellent rooms beds sooo comfy

Review 70:Check in was lacking warmth & friendliness

Review 71:Wi fi was good, breakfast was very good considering the number of people there at the same time each day; location was good for walking everywhere; there's a good coffee place next door, & a beautiful steak at the 'Beef & Reef' across the road ($$). The hop on, hop off bus stop is just along the street. The room was small but the shower was hot.

Review 72:I would have preferred a computer to the Ipad. Hard to be standing up while using it and I was not too experienced in use of Ipad. Did get help from staff though. Elevators were a bit cumbersome with the two doors.

Review 73:The breakfast buffet was excellent and the generous hours were great. No need to get up too early. Helpful staff with general questions and use of the Ipad for boarding passes.

Review 74:just queuing for coffee and you have your full dish removed, then you have to queue again waiting just in front of the reception, it doesn't matter for the staff to help you

Review 75:The bed was too soft for my taste. The breakfast area was crowded and not well organized when so many people were there at the same time. The choice of breakfast was not very exciting. Small selections in cheese, fruit, meat ect. I was expecting more considering the prize.

Review 76:Location and friendly staff

Review 77:We booked an Executive room but did not have access to the Executive lounge as we had not booked direct with the hotel.

Review 78:Pleasant hotel in a convenient location. Great pubs and restaurants. Close to Tivoli.

Review 79:Access to upstairs Lounge and gym required payment per person. Not clear on check in that payment was needed

Review 80:Position great , we had balcony which was a nice way to view city .

Review 81:Old chairs in the breakfast room. The connection wifi was poor.

Review 82:The location is perfect for the city center and main train station. Good interior and room facilities.

Review 83:Quite stylish interior and a wonderfull location: few steps from Tivoli (for the kid), 100 m from Ströget (main shopping area for she) and car parking 50 meters from tha main door (for me). Smiling danes helping at the fromt desk.

Review 84:We did advise there was a vegan guest but had to work out ourselves suitable breakfast options - there were some but would have been helpful to have bit of clarity Bed too soft for my personal taste and room small with 3 people - would have got 2 rooms or upgraded if had realised how compact

Review 85:Quick check in process Breakfast pretty good and central location

Review 86:Wifi in rooms is horrible, which doesn't help if you're a tourist trying to book tours or a business person trying to work. Breakfast is average.

Review 87:Great location, very comfortable room and very accommodating staff. Bed was excellent.

Review 88:The double elevator doors were a pain.

Review 89:Staff at reception made an effort to be helpful. We did not pay for the breakfast, but used the cafe located just next to the hotel. Good location across the street from the town hall, near train station and Tivoli.

Review 90:Wi-fi signal inside my room no.341 is very poor. The elevator has 2 doors that you have to open by hands which is hard to use especially when you have many baggages.

Review 91:Location is perfect, easy to travel around tourism places.

Review 92:Room daily cleaning is very bad. They was just making up the bed and that too without cleaning it, as my hair was still on the bed. Washroom same story, just keeping new shampoo sets, but my hair all over. Telephone wasn't connecting to reception or housekeeping, so I wasn't able to call them. Room with view to Scandic palace, faces the road. There is construction going on the other side of the road, so the its noisy as a usually sleep with open window. I cudnt remember any good things abt hotel. And addition to all, I had visa issue before I finally get one, and I was trying to talk to their reservation manager who was very stubborn, and not willingful to assist or help. I'm definitely to gonna be back to this hotel.

Review 93:Location, close to the Tivoli park and main shopping streets. But other hotels are there too.

Review 94:absolutely worse view you can have. Probably only my room but no guests should have a view on shiny blue trash containers and a dark and dirty alley.

Review 95:very friendly staff, location is good as well

Review 96:The rooms were small. That seems to be an unfortunate trend in big cities.

Review 97:The location of this hotel is great. We walked to multiple restaurants & shopping & found sightseeing nearby. It was convenient to the 2 palaces, State Museum, shopping, & the Canal area.

Review 98:The mattress is too soft. House keeping should remember to refill/provide new bottles of shampoo etc.

Review 99:Location is very central. Easy access to restaurants, shopping, train, bus, Segway tour and even car rental pick up point is within 5 min walk.

Review 100:Liked everything - location, readiness of the reception staff to assist in a well-wishing manner, nothing seemed to be too much of a trouble for them . Nice room for a short-stay

Review 101:We asked for a cot as had a baby on booking never had one in the room. The room wasn't big enough anyway once the fold out bed was out with our other child on. The double bed was two single mattress so sharing the bed with the baby was hard due to fear of falling through the gap in the middle. In the mini bar there was a half drunk bottle of water and there was limited staff on the reception desk, they were constantly busy, however staff what were there were very nice....

Review 102:Only criticism: I had a smaller room, which was fine, but they could've taken the chair out to make it less cramped.

Review 103:Everything you would imagine a sleek Danish hotel to have, they have.

Review 104:The bed was horrible. Worst than horrible. It was uncof or table à dangerous. the hotel should be banned and be charged criminally for having dangerous and uncomfortable beds

Review 105:Location was very good

Review 106:Bathroom door is glass and offers no privacy of any kind. Bathtub was not clean. Street facing rooms are noisy.

Review 107:Breakfast, a good value, if included. Beds were good. Location practical.

Review 108:old windows not perfectly maintenaced during cold days/ nights you can feel cold air flow in teh room.

Review 109:Perfect location in the center of CPH, nice room.

Review 110:The beds where very soft and wobbly. It also had a wooden board underneath the madrass that would hit the bedboard everytime you moved making it noicy as well. The only thing I did not like, however, was the bed. The rest was very good.

Review 111:Great location and good service. The hotel, in general, has a very good standard.

Review 112:Whilst breakfast choice was good they often ran out of things well before breakfast was due to finish, fruit, pastries, bread. Some rooms are very small, we paid to upgrade to a bigger room, which then made the hotel expensive.

Review 113:The hotel itself is well maintained. Breakfast in particular was great. Good location on the main square although next time I would probably staying further north.

Review 114:breakfast buffet was poor. huge line up for seating even though there were vacant (un-cleared/cleaned) tables. no plates, utensil, bowls, etc available -- understaffed

Review 115:Staff was very friendly and helpful. Quiet room with very comfortable bed. Great location with lots of restaurants and bars within walking distance. Very close to train station as well!

Review 116:I didnt like that my zink didnt work and I thought that the hotel room looked like it needed a refreshment.

Review 117:I lked the fact that I didnt have to pay for my upgrade due to that my zink was out of order.

Review 118:The beds are far too soft to my liking. The pillows too. I had actually difficulties to sleep. A/C is not very effective, but not a big problem now that it is Winter.

Review 119:The Hotel has a "modern" touch, both in the lobby as well as in the rooms. Location is Perfect, close to the Central Railwaystation and the famous "Strøget". Tivoli is also just across the street if you are in for that kind of amusement.

Review 120:The beds and pillows are simply awful! The bed was too soft (gave me a backache) and bounced every time one of us turned. The pillows were synthetic - they provided no support and made us very hot and uncomfortable. The room had bits of bread under the desk, one of the lamps didn't work and the phone didn't work. The staff fixed these issues quickly but they shouldn't have been there to begin with.

Review 121:Location is very good and central. The staff were polite, friendly and helpful - we requested a room change to a more quiet location and they obliged us right away. The breakfast is good and the wifi was generally good.

Review 122:much money for the room size for 3 people, the room had a smell from the sewer,we had to pay an amount of money in advance for the drinks provided in the room, without having consumed them.

Review 123:breakfast,location,

Review 124:The beds are terrible. I wouldn't stay here again. The wifi went down and instead of telling us that there was a problem, the front desk staff just got defensive and kept telling us to restart our devices. Turns out that the hotel has a recurring problem with the wifi!

Review 125:The location is great. Some of the staff were helpful.

Review 126:Elevator is bit small.

Review 127:Easy and convenient location within walking distant to other attractions. Clean, modern hotel. Nice and helpful staff. Will definitely stay here when in the area again.

Review 128:Stayed here 3x in past but not for 4 years. Gone down-hill. 'Family' room so small that beds had to be squashed together & quite literally no floor space to walk - had to get out of bed by clambering off the bottom. Even staff struggled to find any space for baby cot. Asked for double bed (wife & self) & got singles. Worst bed I have ever had (and well travelled through the world). Far to soft but only in parts & sloped to the left - you felt like you would roll out at any time. Breakfast very poor with little choice & far less than our previous visits. We only stayed one night. I have contacted the hotel about the issues but they have not bothered to write back. Be aware that the management own many of the hotels in Copenhagen. We won't be staying in The Square again or any 'sister' hotels. I am quite happy to talk to anyone about this review as we were so disappointed.

Review 129:Staff were excellent but limited by what they could offer.

Review 130:Wifi didn't work at all, you have to go to the elevator to connect. As soon as you get back to your room - Wifi disappears. Horrible queue to the restaurant for breakfast, never seen anything like that.

Review 131:Perfect location, close to the city centre, a lot of cafes around, welcoming stuff, rooms are small but very clean.

Review 132:Bad selection of breakfast. Small rooms. Room was very hot. I had to turn the AC on and the radiator down to zero not to feel cooked - in November!

Review 133:The location is excellent. Close to the train station and city centre. Nice facilities such as the lobby.

Review 134:Bathroom door is a simi visible glass door. Our room was on the streetside so it was not quite due to cars and pedestrian noise although we stayed in the 5th floor. But for our stay, i considered it minor issues. I still will have this hotel as one of my choices in my next stays in Copenhagen.

Review 135:I would recommend the hotel as on of the great accommodation in the city centre. My stay was smooth and comfy. The staff were kind (specially the receptionists were 11/10 ) ;). I had all the support and info i needed from them with a pleasure. The location is perfect. A coffee shop is attached to the hotel building. Tivoli and the main shopping street is about 5mins walk. Resturants and few supermarkets are within the hotel area.
