Reviews for Grand Hotel Saigon
Review 1:We enjoyed the hotel and the reviews we had read seemed injust, in particular 1/ the staff were very helpful and arranged a trip by speedboat to the tunnels (about 60 pounds for the day trip) 2/ staff in the bar were very helpful and kept reminding us about our free happy hour drink. Someone had complained in a review about someone knocking on their door because they hadn't paid their bill, but it's quite easy to sign for your drinks so it served them right I thought 3/ the location is excellent to walk round the city centre sites. Someone complained about a brothel close by but it's very hard to spot. There is a lady on the corner opposite the ancient wing who does your laundry for about 100000 don't for a kg 4/ finally our room was on the 2nd floor opposite the junction and I don't think its noisy. Indeed if you go and have a drink up the sky tower you can see its not a busy junction So I would look at some of the reviews selectively. We found it an excellent hotel
Review 2:My request was denied when I requested for an extra washcloth and an extra towel. I am told that I am only allowed to have one towel. Strictly one towel per person. There are time, we need to have more than one anything. We shower on the night when we first came to the hotel after a two days trip straight. We then shower again in the morning when we first get up out of bed or after the morning exercise. Or even if we don't shower, if whatever the reason, we as customer, if we ask for a towel or an extra washcloth, we should be provided an extra washcloth. It is a very simple request. It is basic hygiene which must needed to be provided. It is a waste of time of staff to come all the way to the room only to tell the hotel guess that the guess is not allow to have extra towel or washcloth. Basic need for cleanliness must be provided in any circumstances. We come to stay at a hotel because we want the safety and the basic needs to be met. We relie on the resource that we may have the need for it. We don't ask just for fun, but because we had needs. I hope the hotel change the rule when come to linen because it is just basic. Thank you for asking,
Review 3:Location and cleanliness
Review 4:The service was fast and friendly despite it being peak travel season. The bed was heavenly, make sure you ask to stay in the beautiful 1930s historic wing if you like 1930s french decor and high ceilings. The rooftop bar was breezy after a long day of touring in the heat. The location is perfect to see all sights by foot.
Review 5:Service. Not 5 star. I believe. inflexible and not always pleasant. Especially when checking in. We stay in a lot of 3 star or lower facilities that in many cases have better and more pleasant service.
Review 6:Location is super. Facilities ok.
Review 7:Central location. All the main 'attractions' were within easy walking distance. The breakfast buffet was plentiful and varied. The staff were universally helpful and friendly. Loved the rooftop bar, although the timings of happy hour were a little unusual.
Review 8:Water from the shower runs around the bath tub edges, flooding the bathroom floor making it slippery and dangerous.
Review 9:Fantastic location, awesome views and helpful staff, great service all-round - restaurant, reception, concierge, transport, money exchange, housekeeping - very happy with our stay!
Review 10:Highly recommend ! Wonderful hotel with perfect location. Beautiful suite, excellent service and high standard with all services. Really extreme value for money. I'll back :)
Review 11:None
Review 12:Friendliness of staff, size of the room and comfort of the bed and the pillows. Location of the hotel in relation to most tour spots was excellent
Review 13:We are very thankfull to the person who check us in- he had to show me four rooms until we found a quiet room... . That is what I thought back then: In the end it was on the opposite side of the room for the housekepping personal, who had a lot to talk about the whole day and used their mobile phones even for movies in a way that we couldn't nap after lunch.
Review 14:the staff- most off them... the bed the location the cleaness
Review 15:Horrible checkin, change of room category without notice, noisy, smoking rooms are sold as Non smoking rooms, very slow wifi, poor breakfast buffet, double charge of room when checkout
Review 16:Very central located
Review 17:Breakfast spread was good but can improve by changing the food over a few days. I was hoping to get a room upgrade but didnt. Had to pay for extra bed. The hotel doesn't seem to be busy.
Review 18:The staffs very helpful and friendly. Good location.
Review 19:Smaller pool, hairdryer in the room was older production -like in cheap hotels and almost not good working. The noisy traffic from the street could be heard all night.
Review 20:If you like older continental style, so you will definitely love it here, the staff, great location in the centre and atmosphere very nice. Breakfast amazing - large selection. They left us in the room till 13 PM.
Review 21:Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Breakfasts were lovely. Plenty of choices. We stayed 4 days and are going back for 2 more including NY. Also very clean.
Review 22:extremely noisy room (old wing), sometimes confused stuff, but main thing: we were BEATEN BY FLEAS! really. first time in my life happened in this class of hotel (!). should be disinfected... :( sorry for this, but this is really disapointing thing
Review 23:pool area and spa are very good, breakfast too
Review 24:-Staff was very unfriendly -One of the staff accused my girlfriend of being a prostitute -Housekeeping did not clean much.
Review 25:-It's close to a lot of better hotels
Review 26:Breakfast, a lot of empty plates. Takes ages for refill. Stops at 9.30, much too early. At 25 cm of our window a wall hiding over 80% of the view and day light. Not acceptable when you are in a 5 stars
Review 27:Location. Size of room.
Review 28:Nothing to complain about
Review 29:Absolutely fabulous. Worth the five stars. Everything was good:breakfast, gym, pool, wifi, safe locker in the room, nice bar on the roof top
Review 30:The room had a bit of a smell about it, maybe due to the moist condition in town.
Review 31:Good wi-fi. Good breakfast with a wide selection of things. Front desk where very helpfull.
Review 32:Gym was badly equipped and dirty, terrible understanding of the English language by the staff. Breakfast ends at 09:30. Hairdryer was pathetic.
Review 33:Good location, bed was comfortable and the room was very nice.
Review 34:Hotel can be a bit old. Squeaky floors and noise of traffic can be heard at night, though we stayed 8th floor.
Review 35:Nice pool and good breakfast. Hotel is at a good location to shopping and food.
Review 36:Good stuff, but not so helpful than some others I met in Vietnam during my trip.
Review 37:Good location, the pool, big, clean room and bathroom. Fresh fruits and water every day.
Review 38:This hotel built in 1930 has still a beautiful French rought iron central staircase and elevator, some original stained glass windows and original marble floors with inlay work but furthermore it is a 'Grand Lady' that has lost her glory. I'm sorry to write that this hotel does not deserve a five stars rating. It simply lacks the comfort and luxury that applies to a five stars rating in my view. We had a room in the 'Old Wing'. The room was relatively spacious but the layout was not functional. The bathroom was small in comparison to the size of the room and only had a bathtub with old fashioned shower curtain and no separate shower. Very unhandy for older or handicapped guests. Besides from a good bed all the wooden furniture in the room was not very refined. The dark wooden floor and cheap looking curtains do not give you the feeling that you are staying in a luxury hotel. We had to clean the top shelve of the built in cupboard as 'house keeping' had not noticed the thick layer of dust for quite some time. In my view it's a pity that the hotel management did not combine in the 'Old Wing' the glory of the past with contemporary luxury and comfort. In my review I only refer to the 'Old Wing' as I cannot judge the other wing of the hotel.
Review 39:The location of the hotel close to many interesting sites, shops and restaurants is great and the hotel staff is friendly. The breakfast menu is good and there is ample choice between local, other Asian and international dishes. The hotel has a small but nice swimming pool and a roof top bar with a nice view over HCMC.
Review 40:Feel as though the pool surrounds need attention.... The pebbles and stepping stones are quite unstable and easy to have an injury.
Review 41:Location great, found the beds very hard but acceptable. Staff very helpful
Review 42:Although I had requested a non-smoking room a very smelly one was allocated. Happily when I complained they very quickly gave me another room.
Review 43:Lovely grand hotel, terrific experience. The evening entertainment in the terrace is very good, great breakfast as well
Review 44:Shower-tub flooded bathroom floor.
Review 45:Excellent breakfast and location. The terrace bar has a wonderful view with with live background music. We would certainly stay here again.
Review 46:Not even a smile from the front desk when we checked in. Treated my girlfriend and I (Brit and Viet couple) with suspicion- constantly checking and rechecking the booking- said there would be problems with the police as we were unmarried. Was pretty demeaning!
Review 47:Nice enough rooms and good breakfast
Review 48:For the price it cost View from the room was not very nice (to the dump across the street): they can't change the view but could've reduced price or upgraded room, the hotel did not look full.
Review 49:Upscale, beautiful building, luxury room, in nice touristy area of town, nice rooftop bar with view, pool.
Review 50:None, although I did not like western X-mas songs at breakfast.
Review 51:Excellent value for money: comfortable and clean room in hotel at excellent location. Rooftop bar with splendid view on river and Bitexco tower is a great asset.
Review 52:Breakfast is lavish but ends at 09:30 which was a little early for us. Really very little to quibble about though. Staff in the rooftop bar were clearly not happy to see us (looking at watch) when it was half an hour before last orders. Great hotel but could be even better.
Review 53:Great central location. Lovely pool and bar. Our room was huge and elegant. Very clean and tidy. Reception staff were helpful.
Review 54:There seemed to be a random thud which travelled through the building occasionally.
Review 55:Breakfast was very tasty. Room was spacious and comfortable. Bed was huge.
Review 56:The old block is where they try to con you into staying with dirty, outdated, noisy rooms
Review 57:Eventually got a room after 3 room moves n the modern block which is nice
Review 58:The piano in the roof top bar badly needs tuning.
Review 59:The room's paneling and marble. Everything in the room worked perfectly. The hotel and restaurant staff are very courteous and efficient.
Review 60:Pretty disappointed by this hotel. We were located in the old wing (prices are the same for the new wing). Breakfast was terrible. Christmas decorations outside were a bit ridiculous. Staff is friendly though and the bar on top has some really nice views.
Review 61:The bed was not very comfortable. It seems like the instructions given to the taxi driver by the hotel staff were never clear. The taxi driver always had to stop later on to figure out where we were going.
Review 62:Great location and facilities. Good breakfast buffet.
Review 63:We were told it was an old run down hotel, so we expected the worst. BUT SURPRISE, it was a time warp of happiness. The staff were amazing & courteous, and, we had a suite which was like a little apartment. It was FANTASTIC and recommend to anyone. LOCATION was super!!!
Review 64:Happy Hour was not really happy hour unless you had cocktails that were exactly the same. Corrected bill after some discussion.
Review 65:Very good helpful staff. Good location in central area. Old part of the hotel was excellent.
Review 66:I am staying 3 nights. Asked for late check-out at 2.30 pm instead of 12 noon. I was told that hotel is almost full and 2.30 pm will not give staff sufficient time to clean the room. When I offered to pay I was told that I can stay till 2.30 pm for extra charge of US$20! I told the staff concerned that I thought you said that I have to check-out at 12.00 noon in order for the staff to have time to clean the room. This spoilt all the positive aspect of the hotel.
Review 67:Very good location. Comfortable bed
Review 68:Lack of customer service and considerate staff : asked for a late check out, response was like 58 USD for extra 4 hrs, if you need 6 hrs you pay full rate. Having arrived at 22:00 night prior I asked for a late check out, was toold 14:00 is max they can do (which is already guaranteed by booking.com) and if I wanted to stay till 18:00 would be 58 USD. My flight was 23:55 so I asked for the room till 20:00, was told it would be additional full night charge. This means for staying 22 hrs I would pay two full day rates.Sorry can't do attitude, not even making the smallest concession.
Review 69:breakfast, pool I was given the same room on second visit 9by my request) which in all fairness by 5* hotel should the standard
Review 70:I was in room 1116 , quite large but with a small widow obstructed by the corner or next building about 1m on front of the window. The room was dark with old furniture and features. The hotel was not full and the staff could have selected a standard room for me.
Review 71:location, price
Review 72:Very noisy street..even on the ninth floor the noise could be heard. And stepping out into it meant being hassled by people to go into their bar or buy their goods.
Review 73:Very comfortable hotel with friendly, helpful staff.
Review 74:Foyer area has a terrible smell to it (rooms were fine) TV English channel selection poor compared to other parts of Vietnam we had stayed.
Review 75:Had lots of room space for family of four, interconnecting room separated by a lounge room.
Review 76:What a dump. The disappointment when I checked in was palpable. I'd taken at face value its self-description as a classic, grand hotel. Unfortunately, this place is at best a 3-star property, and quite dismal in parts. Staff members are helpful and efficient, sometimes playful and fun, but their hard work cannot compensate for the drab, unrenovated, awful spaces you will pass through as you walk to and from your room. There is an unhappy mall containing a Dunkin Donuts and Burger King opening off the rear lobby. Breakfast is demoralizing. The location is great, though. I spent all my time using the facilities and bars of La Reverie hotel in Times Square, just opposite. Hope this helps. Happy travels.
Review 77:Some of the staff are cute, happy characters. Helpful and efficient, sometimes even playful. Doesn't make up for the generally drab atmosphere, though.
Review 78:No view from bedroom but more than compensated for with other factors
Review 79:Good value for money for a five star hotel helpful friendly staff. Every breakfast item you can imagine. We Would come back again .
Review 80:i found toothpaste was disappeared in the new box and the pressure of water in bathroom is too little to clean body. The depth of swimming pool is too depth for asian type like me.
Review 81:Clean room, nice staff, good location, impressed with the goodnight chocolate on the bed at night, great view of swimming pool
Review 82:The airport transfer was well organized but 4 times as expensive than a cab, the price was mentioned but please emphasize the difference to the cab.
Review 83:Nice hotel, great location, superb breakfast buffet.
Review 84:Nice Hotel, staff friendly and accommodating, pool clean and refreshing, tour organized through the concierge was very good . Good view form rooftop bar
Review 85:The room was a joke. The room I had booked online was 33 sq meters. The room I got on the 3rd floor, old wing was very small and cramp. As per the booking I was to be on floors 6-10. Manager made too many excuses. Booking.com needs to provide customers a list of room the meet the advertised sizes. The manager and staff are not helpful. Had a problem with payment. The manager insisted on charging the room to my CC, even though I offered to pay cash upfront. The booking.com terms and conditions did state this, and the manager was in his rights to charge this amount, but he ignored the rest of the terms as conditions such as a room between the 6th and 10 floors. Certainly not a 5 star hotel and very poor manager.
Review 86:The location.
Review 87:Nothing, as said everything was perfect.
Review 88:Everything was perfect, the location was perfect, everything on the door step. The breakfast was superb, the hotel is run with profession ship, they can not do enough for you.
Review 89:The only negative thing from our stay was the view from our room. We faced another wall and only had a very small view of the garden if you strained looking to the right around the corner from the facing wall.
Review 90:The staff were very accommodating and most pleasant to converse with. They answered any question that we may have had, and always with a smile. The breakfast buffet was excellent and had a variety of foods for the various guests there.
Review 91:We staped at 8 hotels during our visit to Vietnam and Cambodia. And in each of them I was so impressed with the staff at each of them excep r this one. They just did not seem to care. The room was so dark even with all the lights on.
Review 92:It was fine
Review 93:Room not cleaned to the level rated:5 Stars & not valued for money. I have found :cockroach On my room & staff was informed then they changed my room.in breakfast the Supervisor was very round & asking me to pay for breakfast for my guest ad I have already booked my room for two guests & really was very imbarissing. Variety to choice but not tasty at all.
Review 94:I like this Hotel the Location & was nice view
Review 95:Gym has got a funky smell and a little cramped.
Review 96:I was in Saigon for 10 days. I booked Grand Hotel for the first 4 nights and wanted to see how it goes end up extending the rest of my nights in the same hotel hence the same breakfast for 10 consecutive days lol Not complaining, breakfast was awesome, wide selection, taste ok. Staff were very helpful, polite and friendly. Location is great, walking distance to many tourist spots.
Review 97:I Loved everything about this hotel, the staff were incredibly friendly and always went above and beyond to help. The pool area was my favourite place, so beautiful to just relax and order drinks from the bar. The food at the rooftop restaurant was delicious with amazing views of the city and river. Would come back here again soon. One of my favourite places I have stayed anywhere in the world. Very close to everything including the Ben Thah markets and other tourist attractions.
Review 98:Well even though the place is supposed to be from imperial era, it has lost some of its features. In terms of historical beauty The Majestics totally wins.
Review 99:I enjoyed the facility it was clean and smelled good, which in Majestics it had some moldy smell...
Review 100:We checked under our beds as we were leaving for any gear and it was pretty grotty with dust, plastic and an old slipper.
Review 101:The staff were very helpful. Great locate. Excellent breakfasts and beautiful surroundings. Lovely pool area and gym.
Review 102:This hotel oozes with 5* quality. We visited for our honeymoon and felt thoroughly spoilt. Fantastic location, exceptional staff, would highly recommend.
Review 103:We never woke up early enough for breakfast (6am to 10am)
Review 104:The location was perfect, close to all the shops and attractions and the roof bar had a great view of the city and the river. The rooms were huge
Review 105:The room was very nice, with a city view. The buffet had great choice and variety and contrary to some previous reviews you don't get pushed to order omelettes and actually you would have a further 30 min to finish your meal when the breakfast officially closes.
Review 106:Room was clean and value for money, Higher than my acceptation compare with hotel rate, There are burger king and some international restaurant as well located in the hotel I will back to this hotel again:)
Review 107:Despite large selection of western, Chinese, Japanese and local cuisines, breakfast is far from good in quality. Facilities are tacky-looking (both renovation of colonial wing and new "luxury" wing), and do not deserve a 5-star rating. Swimming pool is cramped between buildings and not appealing at all. Staff is not very helpful. I always felt they were trying to rip me off with deals with local taxi drivers (they told me a ride to train station would cost 200kVND, while a cab hailed in the street cost me 70kVND). Concierge did little to help rebooking plane tickets due to last minute flight cancellations.
Review 108:Great location in central Saigon
Review 109:We are both quite tall im not 6ft but my bf is well over and the shower only hit the middle of my back! Staff seemed to only care about the older couples in the hotel and not really for the younger ones even tho I'm nearly 30! So great if your above 40 I'd say.
Review 110:Breakfast was awesome the special touch with the fresh fruit in our room every day was great.
Review 111:After leaving here we had booked 4 nights at The Millenium Hilton Bangkok before leaving NZ ,We would have stayed here much better value
Review 112:Breakfast menu was comprehensive,Staff helpful ,room was A1 with all facilities ,the pool was great Roof top bar with happy hour 3-5 on all drinks ,a small Casino on the 1st floor and a great location.
Review 113:Everything! Despite being thousands of miles away from England and very alone I did feel at home here. Great location, lovely rooms, helpful willing staff.
Review 114:Incredibly friendly & efficient . Let us leave luggage all day and then to use pool & shower before leaving for a very late flight. Incredible hotel . Pool in courtyard was a sanctuary in chaotic hussel of city . Wonderful .
Review 115:The business center computers are running WinXP and I couldn't find a scanner to get a signed document converted to PDF. The only blemish on an otherwise outstanding stay.
Review 116:Superior in all respects to the Hotel Majestic across the street, the Grand Hotel is a dignified, classy choice in Saigon's liveliest district.
Review 117:Stones around the pool made it hard to walk. Tile on side of pool was slipprey
Review 118:Most amazing place so glad I choose it. Staff was very friendly and accomodating. Great facility. Food choices for breakfast were varied and fresh.
Review 119:Location very nosiy throughout night form street noise, loudspeakers etc WIFI did not work properly. Shower head kep spinning round and soaking everywhere
Review 120:Staff very courteous and hotel clean and central location good BUT
Review 121:Very central location, walking distance from Notre Dame cathedral, post office, opera house, city hall. Very near eating places, with Trung Nguyen coffee house right across the street. Family Mart grocery across the street. Fast food outlets Burger King, Dunkin Donuts and Popeyes right on the property.
Review 122:Too dated, reception staff not particularly friendly
Review 123:We were only in HCMC for 24 hours before we flew home to UK but we did have high hopes as we thought we'd splash out on a 5* hotel as it was our last night. However it really wasn't all that welcoming compared to all the other places we had stayed in Vietnam. Both on check-in and check out the reception staff seemed a bit pre occupied and never seemed to give you full attention - no one asked if we enjoyed our stay or anything on check out- (although the roof top bar staff were excellent). We are a family with 2 teenage children so we booked a grand suite which was in the 'ancient wing'. It was spacious but although old fashioned style it was quite dated and dark and dingy. We had to unplug the fridge as it was so noisy and even the room safe seemed old and tired! Pool was small but fine and we made use of it. Breakfast choice was excellent though - probably the best we had in Vietnam.
Review 124:Most everything was great, but if you use the pool there are no changing facilities to speak of, just a toilet. Change into your swimmers before you go!
Review 125:Friendly staff, clean and great location
Review 126:The pool area needs renovation. The pebbles around the pool a little dangerous and very hard to walk through.
Review 127:Great location with good amenities. Stayed 2 nights and found hotel suited us perfectly. Hotel transport from airport was excellent. Tour desk was spot on with tours.
Review 128:Nothing to do with the hotel but if you went outside for a ciggie you were hounded to buy from street traders even at 6.30 am in the morning but was for irritating more than anything. Also smoking has restricted areas in the hotel which I totally understand but while in the casino you can smoke which I found a double standard because smoking anywhere in hotel was outside so conclusion is spend and lose money money in casino and smoke till your hearts content so a big Double Double Standard
Review 129:The staff were brilliant, friendly and very helpful.
Review 130:The smoke in the casino
Review 131:The welcome fruit platter was a nice surprise, the beds very comfortable staff very friendly the breakfast was amazing and the coffee was the best we have tried anywhere, we will be back with the rest of the family
Review 132:The shower in the tub set-up was very weak, and it was virtually impossible to keep the bathroom floor dry after taking a shower
Review 133:The hotel staff was extremely attentive and even noticed I was there on my birthday. They gave me a birthday cake replete with their staff singing HB to me, and gave me a bouquet of roses !!
Review 134:First room awful dull and dark in remote corner of old hotel. Second room in new building had awful smell from AC system. Third room ok but staff were very dismissive, rooms didn't represent the listing on booking.com. Staff attitude to this very poor and dismissive
Review 135:Good location in hcm
