Reviews for Helmerhof

Review 1:Everything was ok with this hotel.

Review 2:Breakfast is amazing! Everything was so tasty that even I was not that hungry I ate a lot :). Staff is friendly. My room had a terrasse with a view on the castle.

Review 3:If I wanted to be seen naked by the staff every day, I would have gone to a nudist resort. Hotel has no 'do not disturb' signs, and every morning I was there the staff simply opened the door and came in without even knocking. One woman even stood there asking if I wanted towels, etc, while I keep telling her to leave, as I wasn't dressed. I was told hotel is run by 20 family members and 10 staff, and they have serious guest interaction issues. One evening I asked for the sauna to be turned on, as I had been told it was open till 10 that night, and it was just before e9 when I called. The woman on the phone said no it's closed, when I replied that wasn't the schedule I was given she just said it closes early today. She argued with me for 15 minutes and kept putting me on hold, then said, now it's 9:15 you will only get 15 minutes in sauna. I said, that's good enough for me, I don't want to get too hot, and she yelled, "It's not good enough for me!" I thought she would just put me back on hold so I asked if I should come talk to her in person. She said, "OK, you come down!" and hung up the phone on me. Downstairs, she said angrily, "OK, you go sauna," and turned around and slammed the door to the room in my face. She clearly just was either too lazy to go turn it on or too cheap to do so, but the aggressiveness and hostility of her behavior was shocking. When I complained the next day another of the family members said they were aware that she was a problem, but they are clearly unwilling or unable to do anything about her nastiness. The staff situation is so problematic I really can't recommend this hotel. For the rest of the hotel, I usually think people who complain about pillows are just too picky, but I read several pillow complaints for this hotel, and they are actually right.

Review 4:Convenient location to see castles.

Review 5:Most staff spoke sufficient English for non-German speaking guests, but there was a little confusion due to language issues.

Review 6:The hotel is in the country, with a view of castles. The location is within 5 minutes of major castles teeming with tourists but is quiet. The food is authentic Bavarian and delicious. Very restful

Review 7:The receptionsit needs to be more carefully because she got the children's information and the ages were clear.

Review 8:The room is facing new swan castle. The scene is so good! When we cheek out, the front desk miscalculate the room charge. Three children with us are 4,6,7, but the extra bed fee is added as they are adluts. Although when we questione about this, they show their kindness and soon give the money back to us.

Review 9:Wifi was good in the room but it was unaccesable in the restaurant or just in front of hotel

Review 10:Great location, nice, clean rooms, excellent breakfast, playground for children, quiet surrounding, i would stay there again and would recommend.

Review 11:Breakfast room had a cold atmosphere, limited choices. Staff was correct but not extremely friendly.

Review 12:Location: very near the castles and with a lovely view of Neuschwanstein. Room: clean and comfortable

Review 13:The apartment could do with a bit of updating.

Review 14:Lovely friendly staff! Wonderful food in the hotel restaurant (especially the schnitzels!!!) Fantastic breakfast!

Review 15:Bit far from town center,by feet but for the one who likes peaceful place and has a car, this is such a perfect place to stay.

Review 16:We were the last guests in their dining place, and they didnt complain about our late. I am very appreciated about this. The room I got has a very nice view of the mountain, I can see the castle in the night. Neighborhood is quiet and cute.

Review 17:If I am to find something to criticise then it would be the bathroom - we could have done with a stool or piece of furniture for putting things on. The step down from the shower onto a slippery floor with wet feet was a wee bit treacherous as the bathmat didn't have a rubber underside.

Review 18:Position, excellent breakfast (and restaurant if you want to eat there) We were able to walk ( 15-20mins) in to the centre of Schwangau for alternative restaurants. Nicely placed though for all sorts of more serious walking in the summer and cross country skiing in the winter when snow coverage allows.

Review 19:There's another hotel called Helmer which is very similar as this one, when I asked people for direction to the hotel in Fuessen, people all guided me to "Helmer", not Helmerhof, so it took me some time to eventually find this one.

Review 20:The breakfast, the friendly staff, the location (visitors can take the bus #78 from the stop "Schwangau Horn" near the hotel to the castle, and it only takes about 5 minutes!), and the view outside the balcony, I could see the Schloss Neuschwanstein from my balcony which was wonderful! Helmerhof also provided visitors "guest card" for bus rides and 2 Euro discount for castle ticket.

Review 21:Can't remember any dislikes

Review 22:We have stayed at this hotel several times on our way elsewhere. It suits us personally and we enjoy our stays. I would prefer it if there were a category "very good" as there is a considerable difference between good and excellent. The rating would then have been "very good" on all counts. It would be helpful if all hotels would make sure their TV remote controls have a subtitle facility for the hard of hearing and language impaired!

Review 23:pillows were too soft.

Review 24:large room with balcony facing the mountains. Kitchen cook area , refrigerator and table. Guest laundry in basement. Elevator, assigned seating at breakfast, coffee pot on table. Nice selection. Nice location between Fussen and Schwangau.

Review 25:We had a three night stay at this Hotel on our driving holiday round Europe and it was the best hotel we stayed at. The apartment was spacious and the food was top quality and great value for money. Located just a short bus ride from the castles (we had a free bus pass given to us the hotel) so you don’t have to bother about parking. The Staff are friendly and make you very welcome. They also speak very good English. When we plan our next trip this hotel will definitely be on our itinerary, even if we have to make a detour to stay there.

Review 26:Beware the restauraint is very popular in the locality and becomes very busy at night. The kitchen accepts last orders by 20:30.

Review 27:It's one of the best hotels I've stayed. Situated close to Hohenschwangau, the home of the castles, the hotel offers everything one needs for a comfortable stay: - Big parking, - comfortable rooms, - quality furniture, - excellent restaurant. - the mountain view to the castle Neuschwanstein was unforgettable. - a place with a character. Would definitely stay in the same hotel.

Review 28:The view from my balcony was amazing (Neuschwanstein Castle and the stunning mountains). The room was spacious and comfortable. The hotel is very cosy and the location is ideal, as it is close to the tourist attractions. A highlight is dinner at the hotel. Not to be missed, as the food is exceptionally good (traditional, wholesome Bavarian food). We even loved the traditional outfits worn by the staff (which added to the atmosphere).

Review 29:Our only regret was no kettle or tea/coffee making facilities in the room, but this seems to be the norm as we have travelled across Germany

Review 30:A really friendly atmosphere, set in beautiful surroundings, really close to the castles, the hotel has everything you need, balcony with wonderful views Really friendly staff.

Review 31:Very much enjoyed our stay. Food was excellent and the view from our second floor unit with a view of Neuscwanstein was amazing.

Review 32:The food is exceptional and staff are very helpful and pleasant.

Review 33:Location, price, food

Review 34:great location, hotel has a very good restaurant

Review 35:Some staff people kind and some others not...but no problem

Review 36:Tutto

Review 37:nothing

Review 38:location is very close to new castel and the area is beautiful. I can see the both old and new castel in the room.

Review 39:Good location

Review 40:the view from the room, location, breakfast

Review 41:Everything, was an amazing place with a great view of the Neuschwanstein Castle.

Review 42:Very good hotel

Review 43:Large clean room, quiet location, excellent buffet breakfast. I liked everything about this hotel.

Review 44:no tea or coffee making facilities in the room, matteress,s a bit thin

Review 45:location,staff and food were all excelent

Review 46:The decor is dated and if there are kids staying above you then you will get no sleep.

Review 47:It was close to the Castles which was a great benefit.

Review 48:Pillow is not very comfortable.

Review 49:Good locations and delicious dinner, also the staff are very nice.

Review 50:Bed was hard and pillows too soft.

Review 51:Location - close to great sights and hikes.Excellent restaurant. Free parking.

Review 52:Nothing

Review 53:The food was excellent. Rooms and hotel very clean and tidy, I would stay there again without hesitation.

Review 54:Absolutely nothing

Review 55:Everything more than met our expectations. The facilities, breakfast and most importantly the staff. Will have no trouble recommending to our family and friends

Review 56:It was a bit busy at the restaurant. The staff seemed a bit rushed andless attentive than most places in Germany. But the food was excellent.

Review 57:The location and view were wonderful. Perfectly close to Oberammergauand Garmisch, while situated minutes from Neuschwanstein.

Review 58:Nothing.

Review 59:Family run, with obvious pride of ownership. Very good restaurant. Our room had a direct view of the Neuschwanstein castle. Plenty of free parking. Quiet area at night, unlike Fussen.

Review 60:Room furniture was a bit outdated, but still a nice cozy feel. Wish theyhad 1 international plug or adapter in the room.

Review 61:Location was great, 2 miles from castles and a short walk to a swimmingpool spa that was fun. Breakfast buffet was awesome and free internet inthe room was appreciated.

Review 62:We loved everything except for the staff we met. Not very friendly tous. We really wanted to eat in the restaurant for dinner, when we wentdown to look at the menu, the lady was very rude to us, and said dinnerwas at this time and gave us a menu. So we had to drive someone else.Made us upset since we were staying there. We asked about a massage, butnobody was around to ask more about how to set one up. The ladies werenice that fixed breakfast in the morning. If you do not want Americansto stay with you, say that..... Because no help and no English signsposted, made us feel that our experience not the best. We loved thehotel. Just beautiful

Review 63:Where do I begin? The room was astounding. The size of the space, the number of power outlets, the sofa, the balcony with a wonderful view. While I can't directly credit Helmerhof with control over the weather...a fresh layer of snow had fallen the day I arrived which lead to a truly idyllic winter-wonderland feel about the place as well. The buffet breakfast was great. Not too large of a room nor was it crowded. The German faire was also all freshly made and you did not get the sense that it was coming out of a commercial restaurant/kitchen. It seemed like a breakfast I would make for myself at home (i.e. truly home made). The staff was exceptionally nice and helpful as well. I only regret that I was on a tight in and out schedule there and did not get to sample the full restaurant for dinner nor the spa facilities downstars, but that's a reason to go back right?

Review 64:Very friendly, clean with a charming tyrolean atmosphere. The restaurant served very good food and the staff was helpful. We had a beautiful view of the mountains and the Neuschwanstein Castle (which was under construction).

Review 65:There's no spa no sauna and no swimming pool, quite a pity.

Review 66:The friendly personnel, good comfort, good food, good environment, good location for our visit.

Review 67:We stayed both in Helmerhof and Rubenzahl. Helmerhof was great for just87 euros. We went for a mountain view room and had a balcony withwonderful view of the hills and castle. The restaurant was great andvery busy/. The breakfast was excellent.

Review 68:a beautiful place in a quiet village location. very welcoming. nicely made room with duvet formed as a heart with flowers. made us immediately feel at home. restaurant had good local food and staff was very helpful in arranging a table, even we didn't book and restaurant was very busy. location is great with mountain view, village feeling and very close to the neuschwanstein castle (5min drive).

Review 69:The waiters can be more friendly. Having visited several restaurants and hotels, I can say that the quality of service is generally poor in the region, so this is not a criticism of Helmerhof in particular.

Review 70:Good value for money. The rooms are nice and comfortable, the food is good, and it's close to Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau.

Review 71:It would be nice to have a swimming pool.

Review 72:Perfect location overseeing the castles. Easy access to the lake, spa resort and the castles. Perfect getaway for nature lovers.

Review 73:Very quiet place, to see both Hohenschwangau und Neuschwanstein from hotel area. Easy approach to Hohenschwangau&Neuschwanstein and Fussen town as well.

Review 74:Of our 5 weeks in Europe, Schwangau was our favorite. This family runhotel brought a Barvarian charm that was further exemplified by thecourteuos staff. Our room was perfect, the food was 5 star and the staffwas hard working and professional. The hotel was close to town and closeto the castles. Nice and quiet at night with wonderful views day andnight. We loved this place and will be back... For a longer stay. Wehave had several friends rcommend this town and it far exceeded ourexpectations. This Hotel is Schwangua's best kept secret.

Review 75:We stayed at Helmerhof while traveling from Denmark to Italy. The Hotelwas chosen because is near to the castle Neuschwanstein, and based onthat the location was fine. We had a very nice apartment with separatebedroom and 2 separate bathrooms and a little kitchen (that we didn'tuse though). Everything was clean and the interior was wellfunctioning. We had dinner in the hotel restaurant, the food was niceand prices fair.

Review 76:The only down-side were the pillows, they were very flat as if there were no stuffing in it. We visited during July and felt that the blankets were too thick for the summer months. Other than that, we had a good experience at the Helmerhof.

Review 77:We enjoyed the hearty buffet breakfast served by friendly hostesses each morning, we had a reserved table that made it easy for us to sit down right away and enjoy our meal. The receptionist helped us check in and even walked us to our room and explained the ammenities that came with the Hotel. Oh yes, the restaurant has delicious local food and we noticed that there were many local patrons there. Location-Location-Location....we used the Helmerhof as our base and it was a great way to visit a variety of sites that were driving distance from Fussen.

Review 78:There is no AC in the rooms. Our double room was fine, because we were on the 2nd floor (in American terms), so we could leave our window/door open to our porch. The two single rooms were on the ground floor, and so they didn't want to leave the outside door open. They got pretty sweaty, especially since there was a rain storm which made it very humid. Since they are in the country, there isn't a whole lot of choice for food, unless you want to drive elsewhere. While the restaurant was delicious, it wasn't for the budget traveler. Check out doesn't start until 7:30, and breakfast doesn't start until 7:45, which makes it difficult if you want to get to the castle ticket office first thing in the morning. They also had difficulty with one of our American credit cards. So, you need to have more than one option for payment, just in case your first choice doesn't work.

Review 79:The hotel was in a great location. We had three rooms, one of which had a view of Neuschwanstein. The beds were as comfortable as I've found in a European hotel. The dinner in the restaurant was outstanding. The rooms were a good size, and the shower was very nice. They provided us with the toiletries you would normally find in a more expensive hotel. They have free parking, which is a big plus for me. Breakfast was good.

Review 80:I like this hotel very much. Nice view at balcony (can see SchlossNeuschwanstein ) Good location Good restaurant Good & free wifi servicein entire hotel

Review 81:There is no workout facility and the beds in our room were prettyuncomfortable since the matress is very thin.

Review 82:The location is excellent if planning to visit the castles or alpineskiing in this region.

Review 83:Fantastic Hotel in fantastic place

Review 84:Room was very comfortable. Food in the restaurant was excellent

Review 85:Staff helpful....but should smile a bit. You were never sure they were genuinely helpful!

Review 96:More English understanding will be perfect.

Review 97:The location and relax area

Review 98:The breakfast was poor

Review 99:The room was big and clean, and the sights to the mountains were beautiful
