Reviews for Hotel San Nikolas

Review 1:This was our second visit to Hondaribbia so we knew how to park in the public lot outside the main old gate. From there its a 5 minute walk to this hotel. Nice view of the sea and the main square, good breakfast and wi-fi. Helpful staff manning the desk. It is a good place to stay in a lovely town.

Review 2:That we had to leave.

Review 3:In 3 weeks of traveling it was our favorite room which looked over the square. Staff was wonderful! Adjoining restaurant served the best pinxos we had in the Basque region. Sweet spot!

Review 4:Unfortunately we found the bed uncomfortable and the sound proofing from other rooms is poor.

Review 5:Terrific location, friendly staff, brilliant view from window of castle and sea. Overall it was a lovely stay. These are new owners from the couple of previous times we stayed before and they have improved the place considerably.

Review 6:Helpful but basic front desk services.

Review 7:excellent location. Bright and cheerful accommodation. Good value for money. Don't expect anything too fancy.

Review 8:Very weird and uncomfortable pillow A bit noisy Curtain fell on the floor when we opened the door

Review 9:Great location Helpful staff Free parking available Nice clean room with a balcony Decent breakfast

Review 10:Hard to find even with GPS. Parking far away so unload bags and then go park at bottom of hill in town.

Review 11:Cute and quaint. Cozy little room. Right next to Paradore. Friendly staff.

Review 12:The breakfast was basic with fruit juice , coffee ,bread ,ham and cheese only available. We arrived during the local Ardle festival and finding a parking space nearby was extremely difficult.

Review 13:Excellentl situated for walking around hodarribia. There is an elevator near the hotel which is operational during the summer aand provides easy access to and from the town below.

Review 14:Location and very friendly staff....being there during the town festival gave us a special all be it noisy experience being woken up by drums and whistles at 06.00am isn' t something we'll forget soon

Review 15:the restaurant on site is not actually part of the hotel.....weren't terribly impressed with our evening meal there

Review 16:location in the old town, view from the room over the square and the bay, friendliness of the staff, comfortable room, can unload the car opposite even though you have to park elsewhere.

Review 17:Coverage of the free WiFi didn't make it to our room in the back of the hotel.

Review 18:Located on a picturesque square and handy to the San Sebastian airport.

Review 19:Very nice small hotel recently renovated in the centre of the old town. great gastro bar on the backside of the hotel, nice restaurant Sebastian nearby

Review 20:Bed wasn't very comfortable. I couldn't connect to the Wifi. Shower didn't work in my room (to be fair, when I looked back at the listing it specified "bathtub" but not "shower"; shower head was attached but did not function).

Review 21:Well situated in the Old Town close to San Sebastian Airport. Included breakfast was good (bread, tomato/olive oil/salt, ham & cheese, coffee, orange juice). Air conditioning in the room.

Review 22:Need new pillows

Review 23:The receptionist Naroe was excellent very helpful friendly can speak English perfect front desk person also the girl that made breakfast and cleaned was very good. Having a lift great balcony and quite

Review 24:Staff very friendly and efficient. Location can't be beaten and the views from the bedroom balcony is incredible.Three room was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed. We stayed for 3 nights but could easily have stayed for longer because there are so many things to see and do.

Review 25:My room didn't have a balcony and it was stuffy because of this. I would suggest only booking a room at this hotel with a balcony.

Review 26:The location was fantastic right in the centre of the square in the Old Town.

Review 27:Its not a 5 star hotel, not new construction, but a very comfortable 2 night stay.

Review 28:Friendly hotel & restaurant staff, balcony off BR w/ views, comfortable room & bed, good location, breakfast included w/ room, reasonable rental car parking for old town, good value for price.

Review 29:Windows in top floor room were high and we couldn't easily enjoy the lovely view.

Review 30:Right on square - Across from historic building and parador. Lovely location, great staff. Great value.

Review 31:Booked overnight here because it was close to San Sebastián Airport, was such a pleasant surprise to visit such an old area in quiet surroundings. Had a lift and a bath...

Review 32:They use a heavy perfumed spray to ¨freshen¨ the rooms when they clean. Just too heavy, and give me a headache. If it weren't for this objectionable odor the review would be higher.

Review 33:Location

Review 34:parking not great - if car park full near hotel you have to park down in the town - although there is a lift to get down to street level . not for people who don't like walking up hills

Review 35:Staff very friendly , decent continental breakfast included in price ..room comfortable . Nice square outside hotel for drinks / tapas

Review 36:Very overpriced considering that we got a loft like a prison cell on top of the building. Had asked for views, but we didn't get them; told we should have payed extra if one with view had been free, but there was none left. Dead bulbs in the main lamp. No proper table, no bedside tables and no bedside lights: couldn't read in bed and had to use chairs to leave our stuff. No bathmat. Awful decoration.

Review 37:Exceptional location.

Review 38:I got a room with windows to a "patio" which was actually a ceiled off inndoor space: so no fresh air!

Review 39:Location was superb, and staff very friendly and helpful!

Review 40:Room , very small , ridiculous net drapes around bed, no bedside tables, seavie was only visible by standing on steps, bathroom tiles needed some grout, smallest bath in the world, unless you know better! Parking only at bottom of the town with a steep walk. Up to the hotel.

Review 41:If you come by car, it is worth to print out a good plan to find the way in the one-way streets of the old town. TYou can leave the car in front of the hotel to drop the luggage, no issue there. otherwise, the parking is a short walk away, but can be full during the high season.

Review 42:very nice and clean room, friendly staff, also spoke good english, central location in the old town

Review 43:Access was unanticipated difficulty as we had expected satnav would take us there and did not look at the instructions. Satnav failed in this so we had an exploratory walk from carpark. It worked out but not for low mobility pax.

Review 44:Located on the plaza, events spill over into the hotel. We loved this and felt privileged to be part of celebrations the community wholeheartedly embraced. The sounds and joy of the celebrations made the stay special for us

Review 45:Only two parking places and difficult to get to. Your satnav will probably try to send you up a footpath so learn the route on Google Streetview in advance. Or just park in the new town and walk the last km with an overnight bag.

Review 46:Very friendly and helpful staff. (In fact, they get the prize for the most helpful staff we encountered during a three-week tour.) Stunning location.

Review 47:The lack of ventilation in my interior room.... had to leave the door ajar to get any air moving. The lock on the door (room 103)was awful.... had a difficult time opening from inside or outside the door. No wake up service which was a bit disconcerting to me as my taxi was to arrive at 6 am.

Review 48:Receptionist was extraordinarily helpful and pleasant. Loved seeing all the action with the festival going on. A great place to view the whole city and enjoy the plaza action.

Review 49:While breakfeast was advertised as available from 8.00 am, the restaurant opened at 8.10 and the staff ignored me after having taken my breakfast order. I left the table at 8.30 without having been served as I had to catch a taxi & train. I was not refunded for the breakfast. I do not recommend this hotel.

Review 50:everything was fine, in line with what you would expect from an hotel of this category until my experience with breakfast....

Review 51:Having to wait for staff to arrive in morning so that we could pay.On reflection if would have been better to pay the day before so that we could get an early start.

Review 52:Good position in centre of Old Town.Lift very good to all floors.Spacious and cleanliness

Review 53:The location was central a.d the room great with a balcony over beautiful views;

Review 54:Shower inadequate. Poor internet connection.

Review 55:It was in our favourite area in the old town on the main plaza.

Review 56:Room and breakfast

Review 64:Location and view are unbeatable.

Review 65:Beds were a little bit basic but comfortable enough.

Review 66:Quiet room with door opening to a balcony and a view of the church.

Review 67:Single long pillow for double bed. No aircon.

Review 68:Great location. Spacious room, especially the bathroom. Good fan.

Review 69:Iocation

Review 70:The room I had had no exterior window. Comfortable but definitely not plush.

Review 71:Very accommodating with my late check in. Charming old world feel.

Review 72:Location great, room great and stunning views.

Review 73:No facilities for tea or coffee

Review 74:Lovely location

Review 75:Wifi didn't reach our room

Review 76:Very well appointed

Review 77:The shower didn't work but everything else was great.

Review 78:Difficult to access for luggage drop off.

Review 79:Located in the main square of the old town. Pedestrian area with no traffic noise at nighttime.

Review 80:Price

Review 81:Lunch was excellent

Review 82:Food court closed too early. I needed food at 11 p.m.

Review 83:I really liked the atmosphere.

Review 84:Nice location. We had nice room with balcony and see view

Review 85:Beautiful location, on the Plaza de Armas in the historic center. View over the ocean. Good and decent accomodation (2 stars)

Review 86:Too many dried flowes

Review 87:Staff were very helpful and hotel was clean had an excellent breakfast

Review 88:Breakfast was a little over priced compared to what you would pay in a cafe

Review 89:Amazing location on the square with a view to the sea and marina Very friendly lady greeted us and recommended good places for tapas and dinner in a nearby part of town Basic but clean

Review 90:I think I booked one of the cheapest rooms (I was in san seb for work and had an early flight, so wanted to stay closer to the airport cos I don't like mornings!). The room was clean, and had a modern(ish) look like in the pics, but little natural light and small. I will definitely go back, but next time, pay a bit more for one of their better rooms, as I oved the staff and location, and the hotel in general. Next time i'll get a room with a view!!!!

Review 91:The location was amazing, right in the heart of the old town. I ate at their cafe/bar downstairs, the mejillones and gambas a la plancha were AMAZING

Review 92:Parking, but who wants to look at a bunch of cars on a beautiful square

Review 93:We enjoyed our stay the the St. Nic. . . Great room with view of square and harbor. Terrific location, just a little difficult with a car to find you with the one way streets. . .If we had not gone through bookings I understand you would have sent a map.

Review 94:Just could not find the hotel! All one way. We finally found a place to park! We took our sat nav and walked. Ok for fit people, but not recommended for elderly. What else can you expect from a gorgeous old walled city tho?

Review 95:Came here with my daughter and her beau and a friend. We Loved the great architecture and beauty and fun location and the friendly reception. My daughter and her beau loved the 4 poster bedroom with sea views. Great location for exploring. We enjoyed fantastic tapas bars and had a great night.

Review 96:Parking is a little inconvenient.

Review 97:Cute hotel on the main square in the old part of town. Very nice staff and fun location with views of the sea. Parking is a bit of a walk and locating the hotel might be difficult at night. Old town is quiet and picturesque. It's also a nice walk to main area of restaurants.

Review 98:You need to navigate the very narrow oneway labyrinth of streets to drop off bags and then park on the street, about half a mile, but there is a street elevator and the parking, if you can find a spot, is free.

Review 99:Small hotel, small town, beautiful views. Romance in the right room with the right view. You can see the whole town in one day. Many great restaurants to walk to and the worst wine was great.

Review 100:Very minimally & cheaply furnished room - no bedside table.. Odd bathroom. Window very high up with step to see (good) view!

Review 101:Location on main square of old town. Friendly staff.

Review 102:For anyone wo out a car it was difficult to get to and from Hondarribia, but nothing a few bus transfers can't solve. Since we had to go toBiarritz airport to pick up a (large) rental car at a precise time wechose to hire a taxi. All worth the extra effort for the experience andwarm welcome we received.

Review 103:Our host , Gorka was the best bartender/host one could find. A veryfun crowd patronized his friendly establishment. We loved the communityconcert held in the town square outside our balcony, along w/ theconvenient location of amenities. We were charmed. The boat trip toHendaye was fun and the beach is the ultimate...just wish we had beenaware of it so we could have brought our bathing suits. We walked thepromenade, visited the castle, and lunched ocean side for a fun day inthe sun w/ other happy vacationers.

Review 104:We came at festival time so noisy until late into the night - nothing the hotel could do, but others I'd imagine thoroughly enjoyed it all!

Review 105:Extremely friendly and helpful receptionists & great view from our balcony.

Review 106:Builders working next door!!

Review 107:What a lovely find, excellent location with views of the sea. Unfortunately we only stayed one night but would definitely return.

Review 108:Watch out - unlike any other hotel I have encountered through booking com in Spain - this hotel adds IVA (TVA) to the stated advertised price. When questioned about it, the attitude was this is what we do. If I had know of this underhand practice prior I would not have booked the hotel. I have raised a complaint with booking com.
