Reviews for Real Dominican Republic Discovery

Review 1:Seems like a few teenagers decided to start a homestay. Friendly, but unorganised. Unfortunately they missed to inform about Tarantulas. Room was full of spiders since there were no doors or windows. Nightmare for arachnophobics. I paid for 3 nights but had to leave after one horrible night, no refund or any gesture to make up for it. Dirty kitchen utensils, very boring meal at the "restaurant".

Review 2:Nice river, authentic neighborhood (although Haitian, not Dominican).

Review 3:Although I'd never met anyone here before I was made to feel right at home by both the staff and guests and especially Diane the owner would recommend this holiday all my friends as both the food and drinks are cheap taxi to beach 30 peso ie less than 50p or 1dollar

Review 4:wished it was closer to puerto plata

Review 5:the restaurant was very accommodating and made me delicious vegan food every night It is beautiful and relaxing the other guests were very friendly

Review 6:After booking I received an email that you can pick me up from the bus terminal Caribe Tour at a price slightly lower than taxi. On-site paid 10 usd. No mention Mize can be reached almost to the hostel for 30 pesos taxi urbano. This information should be in the description of directions. Downloaded it from me 5 usd for bottles of water to drink. In other hostel I paid only 50 pesos

Review 7:A magical place. On-site everyone can find something for everyone

Review 8:For a person like me with bad back and bad knees and a heart condition it is harder to walk in those hills and stoney road

Review 9:The owner availability to help you and the site quite etc

Review 10:We did not expect too much but we found the place to have an air of neglect and the atmosphere seemed rather mournful. The river has a lot of weed so not so appealing to swim. We only stayed one night and there was no water in the morning

Review 11:The evening meal cooked by Glen was excellent both in terms of quality and price.

Review 12:The river was amazing, the interactions with the other guest was a big plus! My absolute favorite was how the room blended into the surrounding environment! Excellent staff, thank you Jennifer and Ariel! You guys made it a memorable time!

Review 13:The beds were pretty uncomfortable, and we weren't given any soap or shampoo/conditioner (not sure if we were supposed to or not, but make sure to bring your own.

Review 14:We loved the staff at Real Dominican. The rooms were clean, and the one we stayed in had a stove, refrigerator, one pillow (we could probably have used another one, and would have asked if we stayed more than one night). I would highly recommend going with this place if you're looking for a rustic place to stay in the DR. It gave us a taste of the culture of where we were vacationing, and still felt very safe to us in a place we've never been.

Review 15:Some of our friends in the group were prepared for camp-like conditions, but when there were bugs in our beds and on the walls, a few of us couldn't really sleep well. Also, the shower is more of a faucet. If you're prepared for most basic conditions, you will be ok. But if you can't deal with camping, this place may not have the amenities you need. Also was a bit tough to find for our driver, so please be prepared. Also, beware of possible prostitutes. But again, if you're prepared for all of this, you will have a good local feel of how everything is there in the DR.

Review 16:The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They took us dancing, told us where to get dinner, and really provided a great community feel. We felt safe during our stay there, and got the local touch of DR. The price for the room was great. The camp is right on the river, so it's a very pretty location in nature.

Review 17:There are a number of long term residents there. Most of these people are great and will show you the ropes but a few form a clique of their own.

Review 18:Diana is wonderful hostess and organises social events and trips which makes SunCamp a fun experience. The apartments are amazing value - quite large and cooking facilities and everything for a really cheap price. I found Suncamp overall to be a friendly place to hang out.

Review 19:Unfit for human habitation

Review 20:Nothing

Review 21:Great service and unique, interesting environment. Definitely a good chance of pace.

Review 22:the lights and water kept going off

Review 23:the scenery and the swimming lake beautiful vegetation

Review 24:It was like paradise for me. Quiet out of the city and by a river.

Review 25:friendly people and quiet room, staff was nice and the grounds were clean. Liked the idea of the river right there to cool off.

Review 26:Maybe that it is a bit off location wise. But once I figured out that I could just walk three minutes to the local taxi's (Routa Muñoz) and pay 25 pesos to get down close the the beach/or in to town - it's really nothing.

Review 27:I really liked the calm, friendly and relaxed atmosphere at Suncamp. Diane and the visitors were very nice and helpful. I stayed for two weeks and dived with Dressel Divers almost every day who picked me up and dropped med off at Suncamp. The river is very nice to swim in. Ariel (the handyman) makes very good pancakes for breakfast. Just a very nice place to relax in the evening having some rum and coke and playing pool or just talking about this and that. Will absolutely come back someday.

Review 28:Liked it all!

Review 29:I absolutely loved it! Super friendly staff and guests, amazing location in the jungle, very close to downtown puerto plata and beach, you can swim here in a natural pool, food is great!

Review 30:The room was a hole, we got bitten by bedbugs and left a day early. The natural swimming pool turned out to be a bent in a river with stale water, not inviting at all. Would't recommend it to anyone

Review 31:This place is a perfect place to stay if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of the beachside. It's quiet, relaxing, the river is gorgeous to swim in, the staff are friendly and accommodating, the food is delicious, the other guests are beautiful souls and the opportunities to see the sights and experience the real Dominican Republic are abundant. I will be coming back here for sure and will be telling everyone at home in Australia about what an amazing place SunCampDR is. If you're the type of person who also loves to give back to those less fortunate, you will have an amazing connection here with Diane and her ties to the Haitian Bateys with her projects and community centre. You can do a small project or offer to contribute in an ongoing way. This isn't a fancy 5 star all inclusive deal, this is for those of you who have a heart and want to experience the real Dominican Republic and all of its beauty that can be found. And the locals are friendly too. Highly recommend staying here on your next trip to the Dominican Republic.

Review 32:Cooking utensils were dirty and rusted. Restaurant was supposed to be open in the morning, but was not until late evening.

Review 33:Safe place and met many wonderful international travelers.

Review 34:Everything .river ,quiet , location , able to mix well , atmosphere , settings , access to village and town , locals. no tv ,small numbers of residents.new holidaying experience.love it

Review 35:Some of the apartments could still be developed futher to meet thetraveööers needs.

Review 36:We liked the warm athmosphere created by Diana and her son, who are thedrivers of the place. Its best to come with a car but Diana arrangesalso transport from the local airport. She was really alovelypersonality taking care of her guests and many guests return again. Ifreserving a room here one should understand that this is not a normalhotel but an adventure.(a nice one).

Review 37:Overall, one gets what one pays for. On arrival we noticed that gapsexisted between the window frame and the misquito screen. The ownerpromised to have it fixed the next day, which never happened. We weregiven no soap and only one towel. The pillows didn´t feel or smellclean. No one asked how the room was. The second day the water wasturned off for repairs and not restored until I told the managementlater that night. The shower had very little flow that made our coldshowers an aggravation. The dogs constantly outside our door and thelocation might be off putting to many. At least the taxis are cheap forgetting into town.

Review 38:SunCamp has interesting foreign guests. The owners and staff were veryfriendly and idealistic. They sponsor a number of humanitarian projectswith foreign volunteers. The owner offered us an adequate breakfastwithout charge. Arial, the congenial cook, took a group of us horsebackriding for a bargain rate.

Review 39:About the river.... many mosquitos. If you like to go out in the evening you must have a own vehicle.... but you can rent this here for a verry good price.

Review 40:something for nature lovers. very quiet and relaxing. During the day, you can get very good and cheap everywhere (Puerto Plata, shopping, beach, etc.) The bar is very pleasant right on the river, with reasonable prices (not a tourist rip-off) The owner, Diana, leads some social projects and is a wonderful person. She speaks French, English, Spanish and German. A family run facility where you will be welcomed with open arms I will love to go back!

Review 41:Keep in mind the accommodations are simple. It is a bit of a walk to the beach due to being out in the countryside but their is a "public taxi" up on the hill not far from sun-camp that will take you their for @ $1us. Also, the roster tend to wake you up a little earlier than you want but the birds will serenade you to sleep at night. I would take that over hearing motorcycles are cars buzzing up and down the road all day and night like in town.

Review 42:I thoroughly enjoyed staying at sun-camp. The owner and her son went out of their way to make you feel comfortable. The price is the best I found on the Island for the accommodations that you get. The view from the hill tops and "star camp" are spectacular. Swimming in the river was always refreshing during the heat of the day. Then once the day ended you can hang out at "papagayo's" and have a home cooked meal and have a drink or two with your new friends at their little restaurant/bar next to the river.

Review 43:Everything and everyone was great there!!! The Mac of Long Island New York

Review 44:I like everything

Review 45:The nature and relaxation

Review 46:Crowded noicy 5-star hotel with all comodities.

Review 47:Rather hiker camping than luxury.

Review 48:If you are looking for a luxurios accomodation, this place is not for you, this is camp!

Review 49:Great place, very friendly people, had a great time!
