Reviews for Youth Hostel Zurich
Review 1:I booked two nights by mistake instead of one, I was not able to change it on this website so I called the property - they told me that they can change it to one night but 80% of the additional night I booked by mistake had to be deducted which I found really ridiculous since it was just a mistake and I changed my reservation just within minutes after my mistake. Another bad thing I encountered was inavailability of Wi-Fi in my room.
Review 2:Friendly staff, cleanliness, especially cleanliness of WC and shower, availibility of plugs and light switches next to each bed which makes it easier to charge your phone without worrying about it, very nice lobby and helpful staff.
Review 3:Wifi is only available in the lobby and even then the signal is weak. There's only one charging point in the lobby though it can take three plugs.
Review 4:The hostel has been around for quite some time, there's even a bus stop called "Jugendherberge" nearby. I got an upper bunk bed which was difficult to get out of, I asked for a bed change the next day and I was given a lower bed. This was a big help. Breakfast is simple but good. Toilets and shower stalls are clean. Each bed has it's own light and plug point.
Review 5:far away from the city centre, too late check-in (15.00) & too early check-out (10.00), no WIFI in the rooms, very expensive (being in Zurich)
Review 6:Breakfast, big common room, cleanliness
Review 7:Everything in Zurich is expensive (50 Euro for bed in 6 bed room) Quite far away from center
Review 8:Good breakfast Nice staff Free WiFi in the hall Parking for 7 Euro per day
Review 9:I didn't like the poor information provided on the location of the hostel. I wasted lots of time waiting at the station, then wandering from place to another, whereas it was easy to get by metro/ or underground. I didn't know that until the receptionist told me in the hostel. Wished to get it earlier to my arrival in the new city :(
Review 10:I like very much the place; the facility has almost everything, people very friendly and always you can meet friends.
Review 11:Fair way out from central Zurich. The bedding was towel like material. Needing to put a deposit on towels, after flying 21 hours and having no swiss currency this was not ideal.
Review 12:Very clean hostel with lovely and helpful staff.
Review 13:I liked that they let you check in whenever butI also HATED it. We had to be up at 5am and they checked a group of 4 into our room after midnight, they were obviously not quiet. It was also pretty dirty when we checked in. They had shared bathrooms and ran out of toilet paper a lot. The wifi did not work in the rooms. They were also really disorganised and didn't know we were coming. They only had one key per room, so you had to leave it unlocked when you were in there, it was awkward. They played music, with loud bass, all night, so it was really hard to sleep when we needed to. Appreciated it when we didnt need to..
Review 14:I liked that they gave us rides to the train station. If they didn't the location would be really poor. Since they did, we could get on the train right to Oktoberfest and central Munich. They were timely in picking us up as well. I liked the meals they cooked and the drinks they served as well.
Review 15:Expensive for a hostel (but it's Switzerland where everything is expensive)
Review 16:Quiet location away from the city centre. Great to recover after 24 hrs of travelling from Australia!
Review 17:General Atmosphere Was asking weird questions from 3 guys who introduced themselves as police check visa & paper quite rude
Review 18:The bed was comfortable
Review 19:The location was a bit far from the central station ( get off Morgental). Wifi is only available in the lobby. 駅から7番トラム、morgentalで降ります。
Review 20:I really enjoyed Japanese style breakfast, steamed-rice and miso soup. 朝食にご飯と味噌汁がありました。
Review 21:the breakfast was everyday exactly same. they could have served food of same value. if you have long stay you might exclude brkfast from your booking
Review 22:its clean & proper
Review 23:It's a pain that the wifi only works on the ground floor. It's 30min by public transport from the main train station.
Review 24:Very clean and well-run. Breakfast is great.
Review 25:no hair drier in bathroom, and no travel adapter to borrow must buy it, i am a girl travelling along but they arrange me into a room with three guys
Review 26:good facilities and very clean
Review 27:Having a person who snores so loud in the room that earplugs don't even help, but the staff were helpful & I managed to change rooms. No air con or fan in the room and it was very expensive for what it is, but that's Switzerland after all.
Review 28:Good breakfast, the staff were really helpful.
Review 29:A little bit far from downtown. Also think it is some expensive although the whole country is more expensive than the average in Europe.
Review 30:The place very well designed and clean.Good breakfast.
Review 31:Location was quite far from the main city. The wifi was just in the day room
Review 32:Really fantastic breakfast! The bircher museli was delicious! The facilities were really good and the staff were friendly enough.
Review 33:I really appreciate the steamed-rice and miso soup prepared for breakfast after continous 10 days of cold sandwiches for every meal. Please continue this VERY GOOD measure. Thank you.
Review 34:something had bitten me :(
Review 35:I arrived late, so everybody in the room was sleeping, and there was a man snoring loud. so I wanted to stay all night in the lobby, but administrator said, don't to that and gave me a new empty room. thank you :)
Review 36:Had a very noisy room. It was hot, so had to open the window, but the noise from the street didn't allow us to sleep. The beds we quite noisy too, any slight movement from the one sleeping on the upper deck is felt and heard (i.e. wakes up) by the one below. So didn't sleep much basically.
Review 37:Very helpful and friendly staff. Although not in the city center but accessible by public transportation. Very clean facilities, very practical, nice breakfast. Should mention (since I didn't find it in the other reviews) that they provide you with towels and any toiletries if requested for reasonable prices (like 2 CHF per towel, but with a refundable deposit).
Review 38:I prefer the female room instead of mix. Finally, I stayed with two boys by myself. You have to pay for CHF 5 if you keep your baggage in the hostel after checking out. I suggest you to store it in the train station locker which is only CHF 7 and more convenience.
Review 39:Most of the staff are helpful.
Review 40:Not much room in a quadruple room with private bathroom. Better to have more shelves fr putting things.
Review 41:Clean room n nice staff. Plenty of shared bathroom n toilets. I would like a quadruple room with shared bathroom to save money next time.
Review 42:Toilet far away.Have to manually put bed linen. Wifi only in lobby. Location a bit far from city center. No fan or air conditioner.
Review 43:Free breakfast. Plug for each bed.
Review 44:A long distance from the main station with a couple of changers required on the Tram System. The nearest Tram stop is around 500M away from the Hostel and did take a bit of finding after a long days traveling.
Review 45:A lovely Hostel with a good seating area and a Bar.The Staff were very Friendly and Helpful.
Review 46:Didn't find the staff particularly nice. Big hostel with no real atmosphere, felt like being back at school. I think they may house some homeless people in the hostel as there was an elderly lady who didn't have a home in our room. Not really a problem but led to a weird atmosphere in the room.
Review 47:Free breakfast. located close to metro station. Nice neighbourhood.
Review 48:Hostel was a bit out of main tourist attractions. However simple team ride of 10-15 mins and I was in town.
Review 49:I stayed in a private room. Very clean with lots of room. Clean and modern bathroom. Lovely staff at reception.
Review 50:we were only there for one night before leaving Zurich. we had large suitcases that we had to wheel up and down a hill to get to the tram stop on our way to the airport no wifi in the room very warm and no fans
Review 51:friendly staff. large room and comfy beds. great breakfast and nice and early too starts at 6am.it had a lift :)
Review 52:Only issue during my stay was availability of wifi only in day room as appose to throughout facility!!
Review 53:Stayed here before whilst competing in Ironman Switzerland and catering over this weekend is better than before with early breakfast but still no self catering which for me and some can make that difference!!
Review 54:Extra charge applied if you're not a member of their hostel group, which should be mentioned during booking. In a very quiet neighborhood, not so many restaurants around.
Review 55:Wifi only in communal lounge not dorm room, expensive (but all of Zurich is), location a bit too far out of town. Lots of school/youth groups staying made it quite noisy/busy at times.
Review 56:Rooms were clean and tidy. Nice big shower rooms, with good shower pressure.
Review 57:This hostel has lots of features that make you feel safe dieing your stay. The staff were very friendly and helpful to me. Public transport is close, and the breakfast was great! I'm glad I took a chance on this place.
Review 58:Can't think of any (maybe the façade?!)
Review 59:quiet rooms (double doors to room with lockers in between, besides another door to access staircase directly across the room). Very clean, comfortable bed, with large windows for aeration as needed. Plenty of clean shower rooms, good size bathroom. A very practical place. staff was very welcoming and very helpful/service oriented! Breakfast was very good.
Review 60:Takes about 20 minutes to reach from the main train station. Can be a bit noisy in the night, when people slam the doors of their rooms.
Review 61:Clean common facilities, spacious area on the ground floor and a cosy yard. Friendly and very patient staff. Riсe and miso soup for breakfast! Staying there made me remember that being young is a lot of fun.
Review 62:The location is far from the town centre. The transport is not convenient. There is no wifi at the room.
Review 63:The room and the bed was clean and comfortable. There were staff at the reception most of the time. Provide lockers for early comer
Review 64:The breakfast was poor and we didn't like the location. Also it definitely wasn't value for money.
Review 65:The overall cleanliness of the hostel was good.
Review 66:No Wifi in room, location was a little out of the way but close to tram
Review 67:Breakfast, clean facilities, individual locker room in a adjoining room. Friendly staff and lounge
Review 68:It depends on staff, but some looked unfriendly. Wi-fi only in lobby. I didn't really like the sheet. Breakfast was not as good as I thought. スタッフによりますが好意的じゃない方も ワイファイが受付のみ シーツがザラザラしていて好きではなかったです 朝食は悪くはないですが思っていたものよりは残念でした
Review 69:The hostel was new and clean. Dinner was kind of expensive, but great. Almost everything was great. 建物自体は新しくて清潔 夕食は高いですが値段相応(スイスだからしょうがないかと) ほとんど良かったです
Review 70:1. Narrow room 2. Narrow range of WiFi which wasn't available on the floor that my room is located. 3. Location which is a bit away from the centre of the city
Review 71:1. Clinness of each facility 2. Large hall 3. Breakfast
Review 72:-you need pay for membership in Youth Club 6 CHF per day -WiFi is available only on reception floor -very small rooms
Review 73:-friendly stuff -good location -good breakfast
Review 74:Didn't like that wifi doesn't work in the bedrooms
Review 75:I liked the breakfast, the staff and that you were allowed to bring your own food and warm it up
Review 76:No kitchen facility, if u want to prepare something by your own, u can't.........
Review 77:Hostel Staffs very good behaviour and helping, supportive nature....
Review 78:Distance from the city centre. Poor directions online (from the Swiss hostel website) as to how to get there.
Review 79:I stayed in a single room with its own bathroom. The room was clean, comfortable and had all the basics. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The location was ok - a bit of a walk from the local tram stop (you can catch a bus to get closer if you know about it) and it's not that close to the city centre. It's quite expensive for a hostel, but then all accommodation is expensive in Zurich. The breakfast was good.
Review 80:The trams were great for travelling to and from the city. The accomodation at the HI hostel was excellent. The staff was very helpful. The breakfast and dinner was delicious. The tourbus was very informative and I enjoyed the bus ride to the hills.
Review 81:There wasn't enough place to store clothes. Only one locker per person without shelves inside. Eventually, each person has a locker, one coat hook on the bed, one coat hook near the washbasin.
Review 82:My impression is very positive, in general. Breakfasts included, cheap washing machine (5 CHF/hour) with a dryer and an iron available. Free Wi-Fi in hall.
Review 83:the quantity of the elevator is not enough. have to wait a lot. the bed was a bid short for me, 1,82 cm tall.
Review 84:all the processes are def,ned and the system works without any problem. perfect for a youth hostel. good price value balance especially for high Swiss prices level. the location was good, not in the center of the city, not far from the city where it can be reached by bus, tram..
Review 85:No WiFi in rooms, don't like having to pay extra for parking (especially because its their own carpark, not a rented one), a bit noisy as the room is next to the road. The price was a bit high, but I guess that's normal for Swiss standards (and I'm saying this coming from New Zealand, where everything is expensive).
Review 86:The staff was friendly, the city was fairly easy to get to, breakfast was fair.
Review 87:Parathan the guy at the front desk was extremely rude to us upon checkin & seemed to hold a grudge against us for the remainder of ourstay... Purposely doing things slow, ignoring us or giving us dirty looks-it was really uncomfortable. Paying 22sf for a towel... RidiculousHaving to make your own bed and bring the sheets down when you checkout.. We brought down the comforter as well and Tiana or something triedto make us bring the blanket back up to our room before we even ate ourbreakfast... Like no? Do they not even wash the white comforter then??Gross!! Wifi was slow and only accessible in the main lobby where 50other people are trying to get on too ... Very inconvenient Paying4.50sf for the desktop computer & then having to pay extra to printfrom the staff printer because the guest one was broken- ridiculous!
Review 88:Breakfast
Review 89:It's too far away from the city and if you go by tram is up hill so its really hard to get there there is also a bus but never saw it. I know some hostels charge you if you are not member but with the extra charge and all its not so worth it.
Review 90:The breakfast, locker room.
Review 91:Easily one of the best Hostels I have stayed till date. Extremely helpful staff, close proximity to Zurich City centre, cool infrastructure & rooms and the cheapest crashpad you can think off in Zurich. With the WiFi just available in the main lobby, you will get to see almost all the hostel inmates hanging around in the lobby unlike other hostels with WiFi in your respective rooms. A complete bargain!!!
Review 92:Wifi possibility in rooms could have been better. Would welcome attached bathroom at least inside 4 bedded rooms. When staying as family its good. It was very hot in the evenings, but that can be because of hot weather. Provisions of fans for hot days would be welcomed
Review 93:Staffs were very friendly and breakfast was good
Review 94:The location of the hostel from the train/tram/bus station to city is not far but I got so tired walking at the hills to get there, especially when you need to drag 20kg bag and carry 7kg backpack. I tried one time to walked back from the city to hostel and it took me 40++ minutes (casual walk without carry thing). It a bit noisy since it next to road and it's full of energetic youngsters.
Review 95:Clean, comfortable, good breakfast and nice staffs
Review 96:Its a bit outside from the main city, but a good frequency of trams. No good restaurants nearby, except one italian, but I found it arrogant and unfriendly.
Review 97:Staff was friendly and informative. Parking is available.
Review 98:The main light of my room (304) was out of order. One of the shower did not work. It never turned into a hot water. Men and women stay in the same room, although this time they were nice.
Review 99:On the first day I got to stay alone in a room of four. The shower had enough space for change. The common space was wide and comfortable.
Review 100:It resembled a hotel for more closely than it did a youth hostel in terms of price and experience. There was no kitchen for one to cook dinner for oneself and it was not conducive to meeting other travelers.
Review 101:Spatious, clean, and comfortable.
Review 102:No wifi in room Breakfast could have been better A little far from the main town
Review 103:Friendly staff Very clean. The atmosphere was friendly and people staying there were very freindly
Review 104:A bit outside the city center. Free WiFi was only available in the lobby.
Review 105:The staff was extremely helpful, the facilities were dazzlingly clean and the breakfast was simply delicious.
Review 106:The location isn't the best. Although there's a tram that goes almost directly to the hostel, there's still some walk until the stop, and if you are carrying some luggage it's a bit difficult. Also the wi-fi is only available in the common areas of the ground floor and with a poor reception, which isn't very helpful.
Review 107:I stayed for a couple of nights and the facilities are very good: bedrooms, showers, breakfast, etc.
Review 108:1. The light on the ceiling doesn't work. After complaint, still not fixing. 2. The hotel hold a 45euro deposit in advance, this is ok. But when i come to check in, they charge me full price with a debit card i use. After complaining, they still not discharge the deposit. 3. The bed blanket is so dirty. 4. The room it cold, although they said we can open the heater,is the heater didn't work.
Review 109:i think wi-fi should be available everywhere on the ground floor, not just in the area in front of the reception (which is quite small).
Review 110:i don't understand people complaining about hidden charges, they are clearly stated on their website. Location is good, there are several trams and trains that will get you in town in about 10 mins.
Review 111:In the shower room on the floor, there's nothing to avoid the floor wet, your shoes might well be soaked.
Review 112:comfortable shower, clean room, preferable breakfast.
Review 113:Wifi only in public area which is kind of inconvenient.
Review 114:The hostel is near the bus station and train station, so the location is good. Facilities are modern and clean, staffs are very friendly and helpful.
Review 115:Far away from the city centre. No wi-fi in the rooms only downstairs at the reception. One employee, that happens to be black, was extremely rude and when asked about the name of the wi-fi his only answer was "nein".
Review 116:Every bed had its own electric socket and every floor had 3 spacious showers and 4 toilets.
Review 117:Very expensive (the most expensive hostel I have stayed at anywhere in the world) and for that price you can make your own bed, a mediocre mattress, share institutional style bathrooms and they can not be bothered to expand the wifi signal to the rooms (you could only get the free wifi in the lobby area). I also dislike the extra amount you get to pay if you are not an HI member... an antiquated system.
Review 118:Rooms are comfortable with plenty of shower facilities and lockers in the room separated from bed area. Sink in the room was handy too, and the breakfast was good (although very busy, which meant long line-ups).
Review 119:There's no wifi in any bedrooms, so everybody is always in the common area to use the internet, which sometimes doesn't work properly... it's not close to city-centre.
Review 120:Comfortable hostel
Review 121:I didn't like that it was the only option for a solo traveler in Zurich.
Review 122:I like that it's pretty much the only option for a solo traveler in Zurich.
Review 123:The bathroom wasn't cleaned every time, I think I was only once per day. I order a marguerita pizza at the bar when the chef wasn't there and they made a "pizza" almost without cheese and black pepper.
Review 124:- hidden cost for non-members of Hostelling International - need for a deposit when you rent a towel (do people really forget to give them back so often?)
Review 125:- cleanliness - breakfast - bar and dinner facilities - staff fluently speaking in English, German and French
Review 126:Wifi was only in lobby, but, its common for hostels :)
Review 127:I was single traveller, loved the quality room(you need 2Frt for the locker though, and there is a personal plug near your bed, very convenient) shower, bathrooms and breakfast, friendly stuff, athmosphere and good breakfast, it even had rice and soup. Location was so perfect, only 7 min slow walk from tram stop, i enjoyed the road even at night, alone, in nasty snow.. So definately i advise it and will come back!
Review 128:Perfhaps, cups and dishes can be placed little lower for the breakfast buffet. A disabled guest seems to have difficulty (of course staff and other guests did kindly help). Cost of a day membership fee should be shown in the search result for the guest who is not familar (I guess booking.com should manage it).
Review 129:Facility and cleanliness plus variety of breakfast are very good. Free internet connection. Perhaps, cost may be reasonable to Swiss standadrd. I enjoyed friendly roommates as well.
Review 130:As that's in Zurich the price for accomadation was quite expensive. Althogh they can provide take-off lunch for free(coz I need to take a long distance train the next day), but after I'd emphasized that I'm a vegetarian again and again the previous night, they still provided a food pack with a pork luncheon meat to me the next morning. Animals are just the same with us, they'll feel the same pain while being cut, being stabing... I felt sad and a little bit vomiting when opening my lunch pack that day...
Review 131:Staff there are kind, hotel is big and clean,a little bit far from the center of Zurich but if you arrive Zurich by train you can just switch another train from banholf to a station(forgot the name, you can search it from the map) near the hotel by approx.10 min walking... breakfast was free
Review 132:is a little bit far from city centre.
Review 133:staff is friendly, excellent continental breakfast for free, excellend wi-fi, good shower areas with enough space to change clothes and very clean hostel, excellent lockers and beds
Review 134:wifi doesn't work unless you sit under the router. it doesn't work in the rest of the reception area or in the rooms. location is poor - far from center. no restaurant or street food nearby and the local supermarket closes early. rooms small and cramped. shower not very clean.
Review 135:Wi-Fi is only at the reception and Restaurant area. No Wi-Fi in other places and rooms
Review 136:Its a Nice and Clean Hostel. Very satisfactory breakfast. Approximately 4 kilometers from the Old City.
Review 137:too far away from the train station. tried to walk, then found it's more than 4km.have to take tramway then walk 5min, kind of inconvient.
Review 138:friendly and helpful staff, breakfast is perfect.
Review 139:It is a bit out of the centre of Zürich, but there is busstop near the hostel and the bus will take you there in about 10-15 minutes.
Review 140:A verry clean hostel whit neat rooms and a comfortable bed. Breakfast was included and tasted fine.
Review 141:Comunal bathrooms, wifi only in common area, gross dinner
Review 142:Friendly clean atmosphere and flexible hours. Staff spoke great English and were very knowledgeable about the city, and if you had a question they didn't have an answer for they would find out for you.
The Fine Print
