Reviews for Parador de Hondarribia
Review 1:No restaurant for dinner in the evenings, only breakfast available. Corridor carpet was in need of replacing. Expensive stay..
Review 2:The History and position of this Castle. Good cafe for tea etc. Small room.
Review 3:General public allowed into the guest area, even asking us to move, whilst eating to take a picture. Staff let the general public in at will, so why is a hotel when it's more like a tourist attraction. The tour guide with 40 people with back packs was the worst!
Review 4:The. Building is great.
Review 5:Can be a little tricky to find the hotel car park but all part of the adventure
Review 6:Great location and view. Fantastically well appointed lobby and sitting area. definitely has a wow factor.
Review 7:Tea and coffee making facilities in the room would of been appreciated. Paradores please note!
Review 8:Wonderful gen by the sea. Great location. Very privileged to stay in such an interesting historical building. Staff great. Fantastic terrace for sundowners!
Review 9:The air conditioning in the room is reliant on a fairly noisy fan.
Review 10:This hotel has so much character and has a wonderful view over the bay. The breakfast courtyard provided a fantastic backdrop for a relaxing start to the day. The viewing gallery on the third floor is a well kept secret which is an ideal location for a pre/post dinner drink.
Review 11:Access from car park to the building up all the steps is tough with a small child and luggage.
Review 12:The building is simply stunning and great to explore. The staff were very helpful and lovely.
Review 13:It was difficult climbing the stairs from the parking lot to the entrance with our luggage. At the price we paid there should have been assistance offered. When we asked for help the answer was no.
Review 14:Not a grumble but the inside bar area was pretty average and needs a revamp.
Review 15:Good location; very handy to airport; short walk into town where there were excellent tapas bars and good range of places to eat
Review 16:Only complaint was the noise caused by handling of dishes in the courtyard at breakfast.
Review 17:The conversion of an historic property into a charming, comfortable hotel with excellent service made our visit a very special experience.
Review 18:We loved the location, the ambience, the breakfast. Staff were very helpful. The courtyard where you eat breakfast is absolutely gorgeous - so much character, and so pretty with the old stone walls and greenery. Superb views also from the outdoor patio overlooking the harbour. We hated to leave.
Review 19:Nothing
Review 20:The Hondarribia Parador is in a beautiful location. From my bedroom window overlooking the bay you could see the little village of Hendaye in Southern France and from the other window Hondarribia. For 3 euro you can catch a bus to San Sebastián and for 2 euro a little ferry to Hendaye a beach and yachting area. The area for breakfast is set in an architectural designed setting maximising the grandeur and historical significance. The Hondarribia town and Parador is in a very clean setting. we are planning to go back again!
Review 21:The only negative was that our room's window faced onto the terrace where people could sit. The terrace was supposed to close at 8:00 pm, but not always the case. It was a little awkward.
Review 22:The location is perfect for exploring the Basque countryside. The parador is in a beautiful historical building. The view to the ocean and France is breathtaking.
Review 23:We have visited this parador, one of our favorites, since 1973 and continue to visit. The staff is helpful, the rooms immaculate, and Hondarribia is delightful. This is a "must visit" if you are in the Basque country.
Review 24:amazing building. Beautifully restored. Do yourself a favour and stay here. You'll be better to have a car and tomtom loaded on your smartphone! Close enough to San Sebastián and Biarritz etc.
Review 25:Room too warm even with radiator turned off. No elevator from parking to check-in area, so have to carry bags up outside metal staircase. No bar service when we sat on the terrace. Room had no special historic furniture or decor that we experienced in our 2 other parador stays despite fact that the booking was for a superior room! Also, they first assigned us a smoking room but did change it when I indicated that was not satisfactory.
Review 26:View of fishing boats and the French coast from the one small window in the room. Location in the old town. The public rooms were very atmospheric and historic.
Review 27:Poor access from the car park for guests with luggage. There appears to be easy access for Parador staff at the top of the car park steps by not for guests.
Review 28:The conversion of this stately house retaining many of its architectural features.
Review 29:Fantastic views. Simple but very comfortable and pleasing room. Lovely to be able to open windows wide and enjoy the fresh air and great views. Great central village location and choice of bars and good restaurants in easy walking distance.
Review 30:It was a bit difficult to find entrance to the parking place at the trafic signal.
Review 31:Wonderful and excellent sea view from window. Breakfast quality and choice. Quite fast WiFi connection. Easy to reach "Pintxos" Street by work.
Review 32:We had to ask for toliet roll and tissues as none were left in the room on our arrival, also the mini-bar was not stocked properly which I had to explain to the lady on reception on our check-out (but thankfully she was very good about it)
Review 33:Beautiful historic surroundings, this is a lovely hotel with stunning views over the bay. Breakfast was varied and plentiful.
Review 34:Weather, parking charge, music at breakfast was unnecessary and just a bit intense.
Review 35:Location, views, rooms, breakfast! Restaurant along the lane was superb.
Review 36:There wasn't any air con in our room but there was a ceiling fan. The weather was quite warm, so we had the fan on only to get a call from reception in the middle of the night asking us to turn it off because a neighbouring room complained about being able to hear it! Get quieter fans.
Review 37:It is an excellent position at the top of the old town overlooking the new town and marina. The interior is very well restored (they're still working on part of it). There isn't a restaurant, but there are plenty around - do try Sebastian's one minute walk away. There's a small car park if you're driving like we were - it can be a bit difficult to find, but worth it because there's very little street parking nearby.
Review 38:it's not IN San Sebastian but 20minutes away by bus, so take that into account.
Review 39:i loved staying in a place with the length of history this Parador had. most memorable. view from breakfast room at walls of a 1000 years ago, etc. etc.
Review 40:Would have liked robes/slippers in the bathroom and better amenities, given the price.
Review 41:Loved the old castle and full breaks aft included. Lovely upstairs patio deck.
Review 42:A little bit pricey, and there is no Air Conditioning. That would keep me away in warmer months.
Review 43:Castle, breakfast buffet, rooms, views from rooms, location.
Review 44:There was no air con so it was quite difficult to sleep and no view from room even though we booked 6 months in advance. Thought it was a little a very priced.
Review 45:Breakfast was great, wifi was very strong. The views were incredible on the balcony and it was a beautiful luxurious place to visit.
Review 46:Can not be used in rooms Wi-Fi. There is no air conditioning. There is a ceiling fan. Sound is a little annoying. Rates are expensive.
Review 47:Location is good.From the room,border to France(bay of sea,many yacht is floating).Renovated castle is atmosphere.Breakfast is good(omelet mixed,red local wine…).Staff is kindly.
Review 48:The waitress serving breakfast was more interested in cleaning the tables than serving. we got the impression we were an irritating presence messing up her breakfast room!
Review 49:Temperature control
Review 50:Location and service
Review 51:Parking access. You need to go up stairs to get to hotel.
Review 52:Location, building, cleanliness and staff
Review 53:gorgeous building in lovely town
Review 54:None
Review 55:A most interesting building in a good location. Staff all very helpful and friendly. Very comfortable furnishings in good colours.
Review 56:No restaurant in the Parador and the options nearby were truly average
Review 57:Location in the old town and tapas bars in the 'village' really superb
Review 58:our friends room was the disabled room with a view of a wall
Review 59:one room all good sea views etc
Review 60:one of the most interesting bedrooms we've ever stayed in
Review 61:Views were incredible, I would have loved a room above the sun terrace with top views but cost dictated! The building created fabulous ambiance!
Review 62:The building and the views
Review 63:Atmosphere was serene we enjoyed so much we are planning a return visit
Review 64:They could have ensured better weather!!
Review 65:The location and building were fantastic
Review 66:Location
Review 67:Bedroom very dark
Review 68:Too hot (May!) breakfast room stifling.
Review 69:Location, style, atmosphere.
Review 70:First visited approx 12 years ago and it didn't seem to been smartened up since then.
Review 71:Excellent location, super little town.
Review 72:Nothing of note
Review 73:Everything
Review 74:parking y señalización para llegar
Review 75:historico lugar
Review 76:Room with a view over the bay. Beautiful old town with many lovely buildings.
Review 77:Great view of sea from the room.
Review 78:Fabulous breakfast. The terrace overlooking the bay is incredible to relax having a drink.
Review 79:Breakfast was very average.
Review 80:Great location. Fantastic views.
Review 81:Fabulous Parador with superb views from bedroom window.
Review 82:The parador was beautifully and sensitively restored . Loved the breakfast area and the views from the terraces were amazing.
Review 83:The atmosphere and the excellent breakfast. Kind staff and very silent place.
Review 84:The renovation of a historic building turned into a hotel was very well done.
Review 85:Lack of dinner choices
Review 86:The entire place! Have fun exploring the many hidden rooms in this area. Fun and relaxing place to stay in
Review 87:There is no air-conditioning There is no restaurant
Review 88:Wonderfull setting
Review 89:No double beds
Review 90:Wonderful building, excellent location, very good breakfast, lovely town
Review 91:No air-conditioning, noisy, WiFi only in reception area, poor access signage.
Review 92:Location and beauty of building
Review 93:Bath plug mechanism dismantled. This could be a Parasites policy to avoid the excessive use of water.
Review 94:The general ambience.
Review 95:It was perfect. The cafe was nice but it could use a nice little restaurant on site.
Review 96:The atmosphere here is wonderful and walking distance to Restaurants and the town is delightful. It's immersion in Spanish history fantastic. Loved the walled city. We got a lower room which was very good but there is an elevator for the floors higher.
Review 97:Love the place and history Such a same they don't do wedding etc excellent location and beautiful room to dine etc but they don't provide the facalities for evening meal or function.
Review 98:We arrived at night and it was very had to find the hotel there are no visible signs, and it is hard to find the direction to the main door entrance. Also it is impossible to reach the hotel with a car so we had to drag our suitcases up hill and no one came to our help. Also to hotel parking is not comfortable and the charge per day is very high.
Review 99:The Parador is located on the town old square with beautiful houses. I loved the atmosphere the deco rooms are very nice, the staff where very helpful especially the front desk, breakfast was OK, the village itself is very clam an relaxing.
Review 100:Tight access parking -expensive. Our small room had windows with terrace seating area right outside- rain meant luckily this was not being used or it would have been noisy
Review 101:Commanding position, lovely views over bay. Well furnished, characterful public rooms
Review 102:Well... it IS expensive, parking is 18 Euro a day!!
Review 103:The terrace overlooking the harbour and the view out on the Ocean was phantastic. Have a "cava" here at sunset!
Review 104:The bedrooms are fairly basic and not of the quality of most paradors, especially given the steep price. Not good value for money. There is a car park but it is very tight if you own a large car. There is a lift but this still involves negotiating a lot of stairs with suitcases.
Review 105:The public parts of this parador are beautiful. We were upgraded to a sea view room at no extra cost.
Review 106:It is difficult to get a car close by, even with a GPS.
Review 107:A beautiful, very old paradore but kept in a luxurious condition, great terrace at back overlooking the water and lovely square in front, in the middle of the old town. Some great restaurants nearby.
Review 108:1. Reception desk personnel did not thank guests upon checkout. 2. Residential areas of the hotel are mediocre for the price. Toilet had the best view of the bay. 3. Breakfast is average. Staff unfriendly.
Review 109:1. The parador itself is absolutely stunning. 2. The location is perfect, as are the views from the terrace.
Review 110:The rooms lack chrme, functional but no more. We wanted to sit on theterrace to enjoy the lovely seaview in the evening but had to leave at21 o' clock, staff were closing it down. The patio is nice but lacksthe open space feeling of the terrace, so we were really sorry to besent off. The patio is used for breakfast and most rooms are situatedaround patio so with the height of building the echo effect is strongand if you sleep with open window every little sound carries heavily andit becomes incredibly noisy.
Review 111:The old castle is still very much visible, nicely at night illuminatedexposed stones. The setting is lovely and the interior tasteful.Excellent breakfast
Review 112:Our room was well equiped but the lighting was poor as there was only a tiny window.
Review 113:Loved the building and surroundings. Very good breakfast and excellent staff who were very helpful.
Review 114:In view of the lack of space in the village it is surprising that the parking is not free since visitors from out of town, like us, have no choice
Review 115:Excellent central location in a delightful village with very friendly locals and excellent food.
Review 116:There is no restaurant, which we new in advance, but it would have been a better experience with one.
Review 117:Location and historical interest. Very comfortable and attentive staff
Review 118:Wifi only works in the reception area and the courtyard, not in thebedrooms which was very annoying. The breakfast buffet was a littledisappointing and it would have been nice to have a coffee machine inthe bedroom.
Review 119:The hotel is stunning and great use has been made of the old castle. Ourroom was lovely with very big bed and a large bathroom. The staff werevery helpful.
Review 120:Being put in the disabled persons room because we were on an over60's offer!
Review 121:The building is amazing and the staff were very nice. It's expensivebut unique
Review 122:Having to pay for car parking. Having already paid e160 for the roomthis is just plain mean. Although I accept the car parking charges arestated on the website, its still mean !
Review 123:I asked for a room with a view at the same price if available - and oncheck in this was provided
Review 124:The price. 160€/Night for an standar room is expensive if: It'simposible to have a double bed if you don't book a suite. Moreoverthe room itself is not very big, the bath it's normal also...so onceinside the room, you stay like in a 90€/night room hotel.
Review 125:The place itself is very pretty. The castle is in the midle of thevillage where you can find several restaurants, bar, etc...and taste thetipical "pintxos"... Views are wonderfull. Perfect for aromantic weekend with your couple.
Review 126:Excellent service, very friendly and courteous staff. My stay was very peaceful. A great place to relax and enjoy the surrounding cities and villages.
Review 127:Lovely historical site, enchanting walled city, excellent acommodations, good food.
Review 128:Only the stairway climb from the parking lot to the hotel lobby -- should have packed lighter! If there was a way to access the elevator from the parking lot, without climbing the steep stairs, it wasn't well indicated.
Review 129:This was our only Parador stay during a 3 week trip to Spain and France - and we loved it. A lovely room, with 3 fantastic harbor views from bedroom/bathroom windows, in "our" castle. It was easy walking distance for exploring Hondarribia, the Tourist Information center across the plaza was exceptional in providing maps and information. Breakfasts (we chose to sit in the outdoor patio adjacent to the breakfast room) were delicious and relaxing.
