Reviews for Hotel Palacete

Review 1:It was very difficult to find after the first sign post and it was tucked away in a square. The breakfast time 8.30 is a bit late for travellers. So we did not try breakfast. The Hotel did not have a restaurant for dinner but we found a fabulous tapas bar and had a wonderful evening. Definitely will return

Review 2:The town is one if the most beautiful I have seen and the hotel was set right in the heart of it. It is a beautiful old building with very modern facilities. Warm and comfortable.

Review 3:There are only 2 dedicated parking spaces for 9 rooms. There is free parking on the street, if you can find it. Due to its location, it can be quite noisy.

Review 4:The hotel is located in a beautiful, old town square. It is only a 5-10 minute walk to the main areas for bars and restaurants and the promenade. There is a nice courtyard area at the hotel where you can have a drink. One staff member was nice enough to open a bottle of wine that I bought and didn't charge me anything to do so.

Review 5:Difficult to manage a heavy suitcase on the stairs no lift and no staff at night or first thing in the morning.

Review 6:The staff and the beautiful old building.

Review 7:nothing not to like

Review 8:Very helpful and friendly staff great location and a short walk to the restaurants. We were able to park our motorcycle safely behind the hotel

Review 9:Fantastic location with a marvellous view from our front room. A wonderful historic hotel that provided a delicious breakfast served by friendly competent staff.

Review 10:Not enough time there..?

Review 11:The Hotel situation was excellent in a wonderful historic courtyard of 'photograph worthy' apartments lived in by locals..not visitors. Very relaxing and yet close to the town.

Review 12:The website claims free parking, but neglects to say the hotel only has two allotted spaces and if these are taken (as they often are), parking is not possible within the old town. No soap or shampoo is provided in your hotel room. No lift either, and a bit tricky getting luggage up stone spiral staircase. Wi-Fi didn't work in the hotel room, only at Reception.

Review 13:The hotel is set in a picturesque square and is very atmospheric.

Review 14:Parking can be an issue but the staff tries to help with the two stalls they have. Typical problem in old walled towns

Review 15:Friendly staff rooms clean but small

Review 16:Nowt!

Review 17:Location in beautiful old building in old part of town, very quiet, room cosy, everything you need, you're gonna be out anyway exploring...."

Review 18:Fine for us but you need to be reasonably fit. Circular stone staircase to rooms. Parking could be a problem at busy times of the year.

Review 19:Friendliness of the staff. Breakfast waitress even made a cake for us. Clean, lots of hot water, very helpful.

Review 20:10-15 min walk to restruraunts and bars down/up hill. Only 2 car parking spaces - we were lucky - otherwise parking could be tricky.

Review 21:The building has great charactor. Staff are excellent.

Review 22:Very quiet, picturesque surroundings, proximity of several bars and restaurants (<10 mins on foot), proximity of public transport to San Sébastian (no need to drive), the historic centre ("Papillon" was filmed there), the charming country roads around Fuenterrabia, etc, etc, etc. A place to visit to learn a little Basque.

Review 23:Nothing!

Review 24:Building with character, impressive stone staircase .We probably got the best room overlooking a beautiful little square with children playing .Interesting artwork on the walls, very friendly staff who told us about the nice places in town.Breakfast outside.Ideal place.

Review 25:The walls are paper thin and you can hear everything for the next door rooms. The manager very kindly moved me to an attic room which was much quieter.

Review 26:The hotel is very quaint and the town itself its beautiful. Cobbled streets, flower filled window boxes, old buildings. The staff were extremely welcoming and helpful.

Review 27:The room I had was very small.

Review 28:The hotel is situation in a lovely square of the old city of Hondarribia - loved that! It has a nice covered outdoor terrace area and serves wine at an unbelievable low price - along with a plate of nuts. The staff was very nice and helpful. The room has air conditioning

Review 29:Staying in the Casco Viejo with modern day conveniences. We happened to stay there the second weekend in September when they have their biggest fiesta of the year celebrating Guadalupe, patron saint of the city. There were parades and celebrations for three days! Location is good - close to San Sebastian, great hiking around and decent beaches.

Review 30:1.Very nice and helpful personnel. Speak Spanish, English, Russian, French and few more languages. Helped us a lot to plan our next trip to Biarrtiz. Without them we would be lost. Very cheerful cleaning lady. 2.A beautiful and house, it looks like a castle and is very conveniently situated- close to the city center, 2 large supermarkets, restaurant area and the boat to the beach in Hendaye. 3. Easy to get to the beaches- either in Hondarribia or on the French side in Hendaye. 4. Mosquito-free.

Review 31:Parking was difficult but we were helped by the friendly staff.

Review 32:The architecture of the old town is fantastic along with the 'Plalcete'. The town is buzzing and has a great atmosphere. A super destination

Review 33:Palacete is a relatively small hotel, however, very cute hotel and our room is very clean and has a nice view faced to a beautiful PLaza. All the staffs are very kind. Hotel is located near the bus stop at the center of Hondaribia, just few minutes by foot.

Review 34:Square a bit noisey at night

Review 35:A great staff

Review 36:Small room 101

Review 37:Location, staff, building, breakfast, terras, good price quality ratio apart from small room.

Review 38:Central location on small square in historic village, no cars Great Pinxtos

Review 47:Quite difficult to find within the old town.

Review 48:The receptionist was outstandingly helpful on arrival and throughout our stay.

Review 49:Very difficult parking.

Review 50:Fantastic location. Clean and modern, yet in the center of so much history.

Review 51:It was brilliant and really special - see if you can get a balcony room - ours looked right onto the square

Review 52:An easy walk up from down town where all the great tapas restaurant were.

Review 53:Free parking

Review 54:Nothing

Review 55:Nothing. All good!

Review 56:The hotel, the rooms, the staff. The town! Great relaxing place to stay.

Review 57:Well located in the historic centre, clean comfortable. Balcony overlooking pretty little square. Parking available nearby, by arrangement.

Review 58:Everything. We will definitely come back! Highly recommended

Review 59:location, part of the 'real' basque country, hotel small and intimate, pleasant breakfast, character of building.

Review 60:No UK channels apart from news.

Review 61:Location in the lovely old town

Review 62:Could do with a safe deposit box.

Review 63:Lovely hotel, exellent location

Review 64:Beautiful building, lovely room, very helpful staff, and exceptional surroundings in the old town.

Review 65:We were on our motorbike and the Hotel was a bit difficult to find inside the old town walls, but we eventually found some signs!

Review 66:Very friendly lady on reception when we checked in who spoke good English and was very helpful. She even helped carry some of our bags up the two flights of stairs to our room! We had a lovely room overlooking the square and breakfast was served outdoors in the courtyard. Plenty of good restaurants and bars about 5/10 minutes walk away.

Review 67:What an amazing place, and an incredible price. We had the room with a balcony. I just can't get over how great it was I'm telling everyone I know. Do check the directions before you go as access to the centre of the town is not obvious.

Review 68:we stayed there 2 times. the staff was incredibly kind and helpful--going way above and beyond. beautiful location in a plaza in the old part. easy walk to downtown. really loved it!!!

Review 69:no elevator- no problem for me but watch out if you have big luggage Courtings didn't stop sunlight

Review 70:Location and facilities were beautiful and clean. Staff was kind and helpful.

Review 71:Unfortunately the wifi wasn't working on our floor. It was accessible in the lobby.

Review 72:The Hotel was in a wonderful and unique location. The room was very comfortable and the staff was very helpful.

Review 73:Got to the hotel in time for the limited parking, in high season and late arrival could be a different story. Bit of a walk to the rest of the town.

Review 74:Friendly staff and good base for the old part of the city. On balance a good choice for this town.

Review 75:It was a bit cold in the room and no way to raise the heat, too late to call the front desk.

Review 76:Great the way the Hotel is designed to look like a vintage castle, with nice modern room interiors. Very good food recommendations from the concierge.

Review 77:Lovely small hotel with wonderful attentive staff. Mikel so helpful. Spotlessly clean. A great find. Easy 30 min direct bus ride to San Sebastián. A great quiet alternative.

Review 78:Very friendly and helpful staff with good English. Superb location of hotel in the heart of a medieval town and lovely room overlooking the quiet cobbled square

Review 79:Hard to park, mostly because it was a very all space & we had a rental car.

Review 80:I liked the architecture of the building. It was very old, but with modern conveniences. The breakfast was delicious! The staff were extremely helpful! Hondarribia was a wonderful place to visit. I would definitely recommend it as a destination to others & the hotel for its value & ambiance.

Review 81:Just difficulty in locating the hotel but once found not a problem!

Review 82:Beautiful location in the centre of a very picturesque town. Difficult to find and park close by but receptionist was extremely helpful letting us drop luggage off and directing us to a car park. Nothing was too much trouble.

Review 83:The parking can be an issue. The hotel has only three spaces for it up on the hill although there is a lot of parking below on the streets. Access for unloading the car and packing it is allowed on the street next to the hotel for a few minutes.

Review 84:The hotel was in the old walled part of the city and was very comfortable. They offered breakfast and a patio for a drink or relaxation. Close proximity to the beautiful town, water, shopping and excellent restaurants. The proprietor recommended several places to eat and was very helpful.

Review 85:No elevator , can't arrive by driving a car, though parking field is not so far, don't bring large luggage. Basic breakfast but expensive, do not take it.

Review 86:The beautiful old house, the atmosphere

Review 87:It was necessary to park outside the city as the hotel had only 2/3places but it was just a short walk and we were able to park in front ofthe police station for free! So don't take a large bag! The gps andgoogle maps did not make it easy to find so best to park and find theplace on foot. We were pleased that we did not attempt to take the carinto the city - it is small and not far to walk. None of this reflectsbadly on the hotel.

Review 88:Beautifully restored old building in the heart of the mediaevilcity which was excellently situated for exploring on foot. Veryfriendly and comfortable. Excellent restaurants and tapas barswithin walking distance.

Review 89:My only small complaint is that the shower in our room was damaged -- was difficult to perch the shower head up to take a normal shower (and even housekeeping did not have it set up in the holster). Seemed like it had been that way for a while. Not a deal breaker, but because it isn't an expensive repair, it's something that management/maintenance should have addressed prior to our stay.

Review 90:Excellent experience at Hotel Palacete for a young couple in search of comfortable hotel accommodations for a week of hiking adventures and exploration. Front desk attendant was multilingual and was very helpful during our stay to connect us with local entertainment options and transportation. Hotel location was perfect for our needs - not in busy San Sebastian but a short bus ride away, with plenty available in Hondarribia and a convenient 5-minute ferry to Hendaye, Aquitaine, FR.

Review 91:We were lucky with parking provided but I think this may be limited. GPS had a bit of trouble guiding us to destination!

Review 92:A beautiful old building very well converted and kept. Receptionist very helpful and spoke good English. A host of very good restaurants to choose from nearby.

Review 93:Public parking lot near hotel was always full. One night had to park 3 blocks away. However, this is typical of central city hotels. There was space to park to load & unload luggage at hotel.

Review 94:Staff were wonderful. Location was great for walking around the waterfront. We arrived late and receptionist was most helpful with finding a parking space for us.

Review 95:The only downside was lack of parking but that was also a positivebecause it meant no traffic. On our arrival and departure we wereallowed to park for 20 minutes but after that we found a car park 5minutes walk away. It was no problem at all. The hotel does have 3parking spaces but the roads are so narrow and inaccessible that Idecided against trying to negotiate that every evening!

Review 96:A beautiful old building in a lovely square within a delightful oldquarter of the town. Although Hondarribia itself is a bit upmarkettouristy and busy (mainly Spanish tourists - very few Brits!) this partof the town is quiet and dignified. The hotel is very comfortable andthe staff very welcoming. We travelled around most days (eg SanSebastián, Pamplona, Bilbao, Biarritz are all within an hour'sdrive) and ate at any of the several bars in the old quarter when we gotback in the evening. Thoroughly enjoyed it!

Review 97:Tricky to find initially and quite narrow lanes to get to the hotel. All will be eased once you get there though!

Review 98:Location was great, staff were very friendly and helpful, we had a dog with us and the fact that there was an outside area where you could eat breakfast or take a glass of wine was perfect for us

Review 99:Noisy laminate floors in bedroom.

Review 100:Location, location, location. Quirky building. Best room overlooking the square. Definitely so much better than its official 1 star rating!

Review 101:Lovely hotel, helpful friendly staff. In an excellent position in the interesting old part of Hondarribia. Also close to restaurants and shops and the sea.

Review 102:Nothing not to like, other than being in Hondarribia over the new year when all the good resturants were closed

Review 103:Loved the location, the accommodation was quite satisfactory... Would recommend to friends on a budget wanting to visit Hondarribia

Review 104:No hi ha res negatiu!

Review 105:Tot!!! Apart de l'amabilitat extra de tot el personal (Mikel, Maie, Júlia) i la professionalitat, l'edifici, instal·lacions. La terrassa-jardí,esmorzant de cara a la plaça de les cadenes no té preu.

Review 106:Ease to reach; signs are not that clear in the road and needed to ask afair amount of locals for directions (which I assume would be evenharder for not Spanish speaking travelers).

Review 107:Location was fantastic and staff was extremely friendly, a greatlocation for a weekend break.

Review 108:A bit hard to locate within Hondarribia. Hard to find parking at night.

Review 109:Very nice staff and lovely location. Good location for taking day trips elsewhere.

Review 110:The breakfast was poor and although I have a small breakfast my husbandwould have enjoyed a more substantial one The following morning wewalked to the bars which were very close and had an exceptionalbreakfast for 5 euros.

Review 111:Lovely small and friendly hotel Although situated in the square thedouble glazing stopped any noise. The staff were very friendly and allin all a really lovely small hotel

Review 112:Nothing to report.

Review 113:The location of the Palacete in an old, but modernized, manor in the middle of the old city created an experience to be remembered. Sitting in the courtyard for breakfast or drinks was very pleasant. Exploring the old city without driving to it was a dream.

Review 114:Comfort of the bed !

Review 115:We liked the position and comfort...................and especially liked the friendliness of the staff. We would definitely return !

Review 116:Had to park in a public car park & as the parking ticket machine instructions were in Basque I hadn't a clue how to pay for parking!!

Review 117:Fabulous location in the old city; very central for sight-seeing, dining etc.. Very helpful staff who willingly spoke reasonable English.

Review 118:Picturesque venue and interesting but can be noisy; just like anyvillage.

Review 119:Great access to San Sebastian and Irin rail terminal. Staff is friendlyand rooms are clean and well serviced. Good venue in a family friendlyvillage/small town.

Review 120:The internet was not working and normally, I never book a place thatdoesn't have internet. They were very apologetic about it, however, andsaid they'd be looking into it.

Review 121:We loved its location - right on a wonderful little medieval Basquesquare - completely non-commercial - how refreshing is that? Filled inthe evening with children playing! The hotel is really a beautifulhotel, restored lovingly with great comfort and care. The rooms can be abit on the small side and they are not soundproof. But the charm of theplace wins out!

Review 122:The bathroom was clean but we found some hairs on the floor. The showerdidn't fit in the wall hook so you had to hold it with your hand, whichis a shame as the water pressure and temperature was excellent.

Review 123:We really enjoyed the location. The hotel is in a beautiful building ina lovely square of the old town. Our room had a view of the square. Wecould use one of hotel parking spaces near the hotel. Efficent andcorrect check in. Confortable bed. Fresh orange juice included in thebreakfast. Good value for money.

Review 124:Beautiful character hotel in the old part but easy enough to get to the main town from

Review 125:Room with balcony over old cobbled square. Old building with lovely winding stone staircase
