Reviews for Hotel Obispo
Review 1:Really there is nothing to dislike
Review 2:The staff very helpfull, wi fi worked really well, and all very clean, lots of shower gels etc. in the bathroom to choose from, we liked the location in the old town very near the parador. This the view from our bedroom window.
Review 3:Noise of plumbing in bathroom next door at 7.30am. Not easy to find the entrance to the hotel by car.
Review 4:Very nice hotel, good atmosphere, good room, good food in the tapas bar.
Review 5:We didn't eat breakfast in the hotel as it was expensive at 11 euros a person and the breakfast room was not cozy. We just walked to the central plaza and ate on a terrace.
Review 6:Lovely hotel in old quarter of Hondaribbia. The building is beautiful and our room was wonderful under the eaves on the top floor. Beds were very comfortable.
Review 7:Difficult to find.
Review 8:Very hospitable. Charming room and "cafe" on site. Two rooms on bottom level (off lounge and cafe) accessible without stairs. Enter through cafe and request staff if you need to check-in without the steps.
Review 9:Nothing to complain about apart from the fact that there wasn't a life and climbing the stairs could be a bit tiring.
Review 10:A comfortable clean hotel, with friendly staff. Situated in the old part of the town and a good walk to the town itself. Good restaurants within walking distance.
Review 11:Our only criticism was that on s Saturday night the bars adjacent to hotel which are also good, can have late night drinkers having a good time. We did get woken a couple of times.
Review 12:Great location right in the centre of historic town and within easy walking distance to many bars and restaurants. Parking was made available for our two motorcycles. The accommodation was very good and breakfast had wide selection of both freshly cooked to your choice and cold buffet style. For us this was a two night stop over en route to Santander from the Pyrenees. There was plenty to keep you occupied for a couple of days including the beach and harbour area.
Review 13:Our room had to French doors leading to a balcony overlooking the town, river and small airport. The view was fabulous. The bedroom was spacious and very comfortable with two arm chairs.
Review 14:Accessibility to the building with medium to large luggage was very difficult since there was no ramp and had to pull the luggage up the stairs. No lift to upper floors.
Review 15:The building, the location, very clean. very friendly staff and helpful.
Review 16:Beautiful hotel in superb surroundings. Very friendly staff always smiling, breakfast was good, but maybe tea/coffee facilities in the room. Unless it is not safe as the building is very old.
Review 17:Way overpriced!!! You pay for the location in the old centre and the old facade. The inside is nothing like you'd expect from the outside. Terrible value for money! Hondarribia is so small that you're much better off staying just outside of the old center. Walls of stone so it's very noisy!
Review 18:It's all about the location
Review 19:Only 7 spaces. We were lucky to get a space after moving a barrell at the front of hotel. Staff were happy to move furniture outside, which was kind.
Review 20:Lovely location and friendly staff.
Review 21:Had to park on street below hotel and walk up hill because there is not enough parking for all guests.
Review 22:Courteous,friendly staff. Spacious room with excellent bath & amenities. Comfortable bed. Nicely decorated. Quiet; windows blocked out any plaza noise. Good air conditioning. Short walk down hill to town; this might be a problem for some.
Review 23:Our room for three was actually a bit small for three, an additional bed was simply put into a double room, so not much privacy there.
Review 24:The hotel lies in a charming old building in the old town. Walking distance to bars and the sea. Their buffet breakfast seemed expensive, but we asked for (and were served) just coffee and croissants, excellent value for money.
Review 25:Small amount of noise from room above. New tapas bar looked great but not yet open at lunchtime.
Review 26:Located in old town for immediate explore and then walk on to new town and marina. Lovely atmosphere of old building.
Review 27:Lots of stairs and no offer of help with luggage. Airport runway 100m outside verandah window, although not too many planes. In Hondaribas there were rude Spanish waiters treating tourists indifferently, without any care or manners.
Review 28:Lovely old town on the coast, hotel over-looks France and the river. Early check-in and lovely toiletries.
Review 29:We had to leave! WiFi weak in the rooms, but you're not there for that.
Review 30:This was the most beautiful place I have ever stayed. The views, the architecture, the charm & the town were like no other.
Review 31:I believe the upstairs rooms may be more attractive, but we got the last room available, and it was downstairs. Still, very charming.
Review 32:The breakfast was OUT OF THIS WORLD, the best that we had on our entire trip. All very fresh and thoughtfully selected. A great value, allowing us to skip lunch and save money.
Review 33:My room was located on third floor and there is no elevator. Rooms not great as far as sound proofing too much noise from other clients. Not good as stop off point for airport.
Review 34:Beautiful old building, clean and with views of the sea.
Review 35:Be prepared for rain..that is the basque weather..
Review 36:The medieval festival coincided with our visit. It made the stay very special. The walled city in which hotel is located is a nice experience
Review 37:Indifferent response from reception to complaints of guests that arrived back at 3:30 AM and banged doors, spoke loudly, up and down the corridor until 6:00AM. We had been looking forward to our stay but it was disappointing.
Review 38:Lovely room, very spacious with view over front courtyard.
Review 39:Very bad first night with other guests arriving back at 4am then very noisy for rest of night. Hotel staff did not intervene. Worst night ever had in a hotel. Generally noise easily heard within hotel. Rooms and facilities very dated particularly bathroom. Windows old and hard to close properly.
Review 40:Location, friendly receptionists, large room with own terrace.
Review 41:N/a
Review 42:Very nice room with comfortable bed. Very helpful and friendly staff and an excellent breakfast. Free parking. A short walk down to the river and town centre which has a charming boulevard full of good tapas (pinxos) bars.
Review 43:room we were given cell like and dark and very disappointing, so upgraded at double the cost but as the hotel was virtually empty they gave a reduction from 138 to 98 euros. No tea or coffee making in room, no extra pillows. Mini fridge just two bottles of beer and some water. First receptionist lovely, but after she went off duty the others were downright rude. Very poor value for money. We left after two nights, the second night we had no sleep because something above us banged all night, there was a highish wind blowing, but we could also hear footsteps above us. The staff seemed very cagey when I asked then what had been going on and the girl on the desk shrugged her shoulders and said there was nothing she could do about it. They did nothing to allay our disappointment and seemed not to care one bit. Would never go there again.
Review 44:the exterior is pretty.
Review 45:A bit difficult to find the way to the hotel by car.
Review 46:Lovely historic building in old town. Staff enthusiastic about helping us find good place to eat and the best route to do a "walking tour" of Hondarribia. A "welcome" drink in the evening. Great breakfast with crepes and eggs made to order. Parking available outside the hotel despite being in a resident only/pedestrian zone. The town is located close by to San Sebastian local airport.
Review 47:Situated in the old town, the Hotel Obispo is a wonderful place to stay. Our room was tastefully furnished in a style befitting this historic old building, The room was spacious and clean with a 'huge' bed.The bathroom was stocked with all manner of toiletries. The staff were also extremely helpful and recommended several places to dine in the old town and beyond. We were not disappointed choosing the Sebastian restaurant just a 'stones throw' away. Do not be put off by the nearby airport, the flights are few and the noise levels were no problem to us. All in all we would recommend this hotel to anyone, it is a small charming hotel in an atmospheric location our only disappointment a single night stay and rain. Every intention of staying again in 2015.
Review 48:Nothing of significance and will return!
Review 49:Location Comfortable beds, good shower Air conditioning good if a little noisy Staff extremely helpful Rooms a good size and good value for the price
Review 50:Nothing to do with the hotel - there was so much noise that it was difficult to sleep because of the all- night celebration!
Review 51:Fairy tale hotel and wonderful position for the most important date for the town - their three days celebrations in September
Review 52:Converted palace with atmoshphere and character. Great location within easy walking distance to all parts of town and only a seven minute walk to the airport.
Review 53:Car access is not easy to find and only has 5 car parking places if you arrive late.
Review 54:Beautifully restored old fortified house/castle. Situated in the old part of the town with several bars and restaurants close by. Great views over the surrounding area. Only stayed one night traveling from England to Spain, would have liked to stay longer.
Review 55:Website should mention that accommodation is not suitable for people with limited mobility
Review 56:Travelled with my parents for a short break in the area. The staff could not have been more helpful.
Review 57:Noise of the cannons, bands etc- but this is because of the fiesta, although the procession was spectacular, and we did not regret the inconvenience
Review 58:The location, the staff, especially Nuria, the superb room. Wonderful custom of having 'meeting of friends' day
Review 59:All in all, a great stay at the Hotel Obispo, a restored 14th century mansion located in the old, walled part of Hondarribia. We booked the “Double room with extra bed” (2 twin beds + a smaller cot) at the last minute, which was a bit cramped for 3 adults (more appropriate for a couple travelling with a child), though the bathroom was pretty and spacious. Breakfast was an extra 10 euro a day, but well worth it for the variety (bread, granola, yogurt, pastries, fruit, fresh juices, eggs made to order, etc.) and quantity. The hotel is within walking distance to everything, though the public beach is about a 25 minute walk away. If you have a car, it has 7 parking spaces right in front of the building. Otherwise, parking on the street below is free and easy (there is an elevator from the street level up to the walled city level where the hotel is located). This was our first time to Basque Country and a Spanish friend recommended staying in Hondarribia vs. in San Sebastian, since it tends to be a bit cheaper, less crowded, and is an easy 15 minute drive away. However, we loved San Sebastian and would have preferred to stay there – nothing against the Hotel Obispo, just that if it’s your first time in the area, there is more to do, more restaurants, nicer beaches, etc. in San Sebastian. If you do stay in Hondarribia, cross the French border to St. Jean de Luz – beautiful coastal town for a day trip!
Review 60:Parking a slight problem in front of hotel but discovered a lift up to the hotel level from street level, where parking is easier. Breakfast price seems a little high.
Review 61:Proximity to old town Spacious room (deluxe)with a small balcony and view of harbour Free drink in the evening!! Beds very comfortable. WIFI reception good in room
Review 62:Receptionist was on the phone apparently to a friend most of the time she checked us in. Unfortunately her command of english was limited, which isn't good for an international hotel. the bikes for use of clients were not looked after or of a good standard
Review 63:Breakfast Welcoming drink Room Shower location
Review 64:Short beds Together with San Sebastián overpriced when it comes to hotels (compared with Bilbao, Valencia, ...)
Review 65:Great town with nice beach and good food (pintxos!!)
Review 66:What's not to like!!
Review 67:A great hotel one of the best an my travels all over the world! Friendly staff and a beautiful setting, lovely buffet breakfast, eggs cooked in front of you.
Review 68:A remarkable place with the friendliest of staff - an eccentric old "castle" that has been added to in a quiet and interesting location in the old town. The town itself welcomes visitors and has an old fashioned sense of hospitality that is rare nowadays. Parking is tricky but everything else makes it worthwhile. We will return here.
