Reviews for Barclay Hotel
Review 1:There was an awful noise between 0-04 o'clock because there is a disco next to the hotel. The music was so loud that we could even hear the words of the song and it was impossible to sleep at all. Furniture is a bit worn out.
Review 2:Breakfast was ok and the location is good
Review 3:The rooms were a bit gloomy even during the day. They also felt a bit outdated, kind of like 1990s hotel.
Review 4:Excellent location in the heart of the Old town, close to most of the attractions. Loads of cafes and shops around. Beautiful historical building with spacious rooms and good furniture. Nice view of the park.
Review 5:When coming to breakfast (which was paid) COUPLE OF MINUTES too late and not being served even a cup of coffee or a piece of bread - that is VERY BAD service! And when asking that, the person was VERY IMPOLITE and strict. The receptionist was also unfriendly, said hardly anything and did not give any advice where to eat breakfast! So talking about SERVICE MINDED personal... just a dream in this hotel? :(
Review 6:Location is perfect. Clean and fresh rooms. Possibility to park motorbikes in courtyard is very good.
Review 7:I have stayed in this hotel before and still find it a great place to stay. Situated between the bus station and Town Hall Square, you can walk to all the city's attractions.
Review 8:The free buffet breakfast is very basic--good variety, but bland and unappetizing. The staff told us they were working on getting wifi to our floor, but 4 nights there and the only place we could use wifi was in the lobby.
Review 9:The value for the rooms is good. The beds are comfortable.
Review 10:I have stayed in city center in Tallinn in a better hotel for less money, so it is strange that thishotel charges more for less facilities and comfort. Breakfast was really poor, staff did not clean tables in time, did not bring enough food. Hotel needs renovation.
Review 11:Super location: close to the city center, but no noice. The lady who checked me in was really nice, but next morning the lady, who checked me out was differnt and very unpleasant. Good wifi.
Review 12:Stayed there first time in 1997 - when it was new. Now it is a bit outdated. Carpets on the floor is getting old. No facilities for making tea or coffee in the room. The Internet was ok - but not more. The hot water disappeared from time to time - cold water is very cold in Eestonia when taking a shower. Breakfast limited.
Review 13:Central location - within walking distance from the bus station, central square and many local restaurants.
Review 14:Since our last visit in this nice hotel, someone had opened a very noisy night club next to the hotel. We had a room towards the park and both nights the very loud music kept us awake until 2-3 am.
Review 15:Location, breakfast.
Review 16:Our room smelled of mould, or according to my hubby like there was a dead person somewhere in the room. Since I am allergic to mould, we asked to change the room and it was done, but we had to go up and down the stairs with the suitcases and wait in line while a big busload of German tourists did their check-in-s. The hotel needs more staff and some serious refurbishing. Also, they lie about the views, don't count on any park view or city view, you'll only see muddy hillsides and some treetops :)
Review 17:The staff was OK, quick and polite service. Good and plentiful breakfast.
Review 18:Besides the noisy drunks in front of the hotel, the room wasn't anything special. Old tv set, no air conditioning, nothing that made you say "well that's nice". The linens were perhaps the only thing above average. Breakfast was mediocre.
Review 19:The location is both excellent and terrible. Excellent because it's in the middle of the city, close to just about everything. Unfortunately it is also right next to a park where local drunks spend the night after (apparently) they've been thrown out of the local bars. Because of the noise we couldn't sleep on either of the nights we were there. Ask for a room away from the park if you plan on staying here. The staff is nice enough and the facilities clean. Not quite as nice as what we expected from this hotel.
Review 20:Great, central location. Close to everything. Good price and a large room. Clean.
Review 21:5th floor. Very noisy .Don't stay here if you want to sleep before 02:00
Review 22:Location, location, location...
Review 23:Morning coffee was bad.
Review 24:Food in hotel restaurant was excellent
Review 25:The wifi signal was unstable.
Review 26:The location is excellent and the staff was very helpful.
Review 27:the wifi didn't work and I had to spent 45 Mb by roaming that are 11 euros.
Review 28:The WiFi didn't work as well as expected.
Review 29:Very friendly staff!
Review 30:No parking.
Review 31:Location was close to restaurants and the center of the city.
Review 32:Needs some refurbishments, nothing too bad, but some.
Review 33:Best location, good price. Original and interesting building. Clean rooms.
Review 34:Location, and room had a balcony
Review 35:If the windows are back side there are not nice view.
Review 36:Nice atmosphere and very frendly staff.
Review 37:Breakfast was poor
Review 38:breakfast used to be really good, now it is average
Review 39:the position is excellent
Review 40:Warm room. Warm and helpful staff.
Review 41:wi-fi didn't work
Review 42:Breakfast is really good, location is awesome, the room size is big
Review 43:Our room was a bit cool at arrival
Review 44:Most pleasant atmosphere
Review 45:Parking
Review 46:Friendly staff
Review 47:Location
Review 48:- hot water stopped second day on last floor
Review 49:- location - breakfast
Review 50:Breakfast
Review 51:Noisy aircon. Due to the hill on the back of the hotel, you will be on street level even if top floor. Basic breakfast.
Review 52:Location - close to nightclubs (may be too noisy at weekends)
Review 53:Location - city centre/old town
Review 54:It got very hot in the room in when I visited in early August, ? Possibility on a fan when required
Review 55:Location. Friendly staff
Review 56:Quiet, very well located, close to bus station, friendly people in the reception
Review 57:The rooms are far from soundproof, I could even hear my neighbour talking in the night. Also, the design of the restaurant is really odd and outdated, the table covers are far from comfortable and in fact disturb both practically and aesthetically.
Review 58:Location was good.
Review 59:Rooms have no deadbolts - just a standard doorlock you could push open,I reserved this hotel because it stated in Booking.com that all roomscome with minibar (totally not true), no real hotel parking, limitedseating for breakfast
Review 60:Location fabulous, street parking seems safe and is easy to access, goodfor pets (10 euros a night), historic hotel
Review 61:Very small roof room- The window sill was at a very high position in the space, I couldn't look out
Review 62:friendly staff, nice breakfast, interesting and well preserved building
Review 63:Wi-Fi wasn't working in my room most of the time. Poor breakfast, didn't taste very good.
Review 64:Staff was very nice and helpful. Location of the hotel is great
Review 65:The room was a bit oldish especially the furniture. The breakfast was average or even below that.
Review 66:The location is perfect in the very center of the city. Staff was also helpful.
Review 67:There are only some small falls-some of the rooms doesn't have carpets in the floor, so it's easy to hear other guests from the room above you.
Review 68:The location is perfect! Also would advice you to visit restaurant in hotel, the prices are reasonable and food is very good. Staff is very friendly and some of them speak Russian (which was very important for my mum, cause she doesn't speak English well).
Review 69:Elevator is tricky to get moving from 4th floor, Works normally, but you need to close the door in the right way. On Sunday evening You have to tell what you want to have for breakfast and when on Monday. (Not so many customers)
Review 70:Ok wifi, silent, everything Works. On Monday breakfast was served personally to your table.
Review 71:too noisy just outside the hotel and you can hear the night club that is in the building next to hotel. clean but well used towels. the bathroom needs an upgrade.
Review 72:best pillows and beds I have ever seen in any estonian hotel. the stuff is helpfull and naturally friendly. breakfast better than expected. definitely will come back.
Review 73:the sound isolation in appartament is not good enough
Review 74:Location is on 5min. walking distance from old town. The staff was friendly and no problems with check in and check out.Breackfast with good choice of food.
Review 75:Parking area was very small and there was no room for my car. Luckily the public parking was free on weekends and there was free parking spaces near. I was there on Saturday and it was a bit noisy in the night since people were celebrating in the park below my window. There was also a club near the hotel and the sound of bass from the club was audible to the room. Breakfast was a bit simple for my taste. Only sliced bread and no buns. Eggs served were cooked only 7 mins. I prefer hard-cooked eggs.
Review 76:Dog-friendly. Staff was very helpful. There is a excellent fish-restaurant at the first floor where I could buy food and take it to my room. Close to center of Tartu so good for shopping. There was espresso at the breakfast. Price was moderate.
Review 77:Milksystem for breakfast is horrible. Mushrooms on milk.Almost sour milk. Not at all Cold. We have told about this before,but.................. Cold blueboilded eggs for brekfast.Thats not estonian or normal in any country.Poredge was there, but how old?? The idea of making special breakfast for each guest is ok,but what we wanted in glas and on plate was not there. No one asked if we wanted more. We didn't like the Food. That is ok,but there was no chance to get something else. The system whith preordering is ok,but must be much more explained to guest and the ordering paper is absolutly not good enough. One paper .....2 guests....it don't go well. We (estonian and norwegian) will come back to this hotell. We want the breakfast better. Now its not good enough for estonian or Norwegian. It seem like knowledge about Food is not good enough.
Review 78:In the middle of city Tartu.Easy to park. No stress
Review 79:somewhat worn-out room, no fence around the sauna stove, slippery floor in bathroom, too soft bed
Review 80:splendid location, friendly staff, spacious suite with sauna
Review 81:Would like to see more information on the breakfast foods (gluten, wheat, lactose-free, etc) to assist in making choices. Also some local honey would be nice!
Review 82:Clean, wonderful and very very helpful staff! Kudos to them!! Comfortable beds. Liked our view from the window to the fortress hill..the stairs winding up it. The park in front of the hotel was perfect for sitting in and enjoying the fantastic weather. Best location for price!!!
Review 83:I contacted through booking.com beforehand but never got answers to my questions. The bed & pillows very unconfortable of the jr. suite, no air-c => windows open => lots of traffic during the night. Not very clean rooms/sauna).
Review 84:Breakfast was very good and sauna was big. Situation was perfect.
Review 85:I got the Juior suite for 118 euro per night (price is much more higherthan in 2-3 stars hotels in the center of Brussels): it was hot time inJune , but no aircondition! It was the last floor under the roof -sometning terrible! If they can"t make any investments toaircondition systems they must be closed during June-July or at least todecrease the prices and to provide clients with ventilators. Hotel branddoesn"t correspond to the service quality. I will certainly notrecommend to visit this hotel in a summer time
Review 86:Staff is excellent
Review 87:The bed was too soft, shower floods the bathroom. No view (from a single room on the second floor). Generally, the room looked very differently than on the picture. The restaurant staff (breakfast) speaks little English and was very grumpy. Toiletries are only bulk-packaged, so be ready!
Review 88:The hotel has an excellent location. The front desk staff is amazing, very helpful. The breakfast spread was quite good. The room was spacious.
Review 89:Bath in the suite is small and oldschool. There are no bathrobes. Youcan't order breakfast in bed but you can have other meals in yourroom if you order them from restaurant downstairs. However, as therestaurant is owned by a different company you can't put the bill onroom charge and have to pay in cash right away. And the food is limitedto certain taste as it's a fish restaurant. Food is good tho. Also the girl in the reception was totally incompetent. We had booked late checkout but she called us at 1 pm and told us to move out ASAP as they are going to have a full house by the evening. As the hotel seemed empty it couldn't have been a real reason. Then she wanted to charge us for the late checkout anyway, was unable to charge the right credit card and cancel the other one without her manager and after we had to deal with this mess she said that she just decided to NOT charge us for the late checkout after all. Her reason being: "Because I'm in a good mood today". The hotel seems to be hiring students who don't know that correct service is not a question of the employees' mood.
Review 90:Reception guy on the day we arrived was polite and competent.Junior suite bed is big, room has large windows and it's pleasantly warm.
Review 91:A Disco at the next building was booming by all the night long, by fouro'clock. All the family was up.no even single free bottle of water available. charged only
Review 92:Breakfasts
Review 93:The staff was not helpful. We traveled with a 1.5 year baby and wereforced to look for the baby chair on the breakfast (finally it was foundunder the curtain) because the hostess rejected to provide us anyinformation on its location. The rooms were clean but dark and canhardly be referred to as pleasant
Review 94:Good location in the cener of Tartu, satisfactoy breakfast
Review 95:Just one little thing.. towels are not so white. But it's easy to fix :)
Review 96:We like hotel in all ways. Perfect location, good breakfasts, friendly staff, clean rooms and free wi fi.
Review 97:Located in the very old town of Tartu, with view to park, in old historical building, old-fashioned. Room was spacious, with chair and view to park Barclay de Tolly. There is fish restaurant on the first floor with tasty dishes. Recommend to guest who like something different than modern empty box-rooms.
Review 98:I was really disappointed. I know I stayed in a single room but there's nothing worse than to have a bed in the corner against the wall - something more like suitable for a hostel with bunk-beds. No nightstand, alarm clock/iPod dock, phone was hidden behind an old huge TV set. Interior was really dated and badly worn out and is in desperate need of redecorating/refurbishing and proper floor attendants. "Old" look is not always a bad thing, as it's all about the taste, but an inch of dust on different surfaces definitely is. Been in hospitality business for almost 10 years and traveling a lot, I've never seen a hotel room that dirty in Estonia. Bathroom was small, not cleaned properly (some kind of white powder on a sink), plastic and full of limescale shower head. Color-scheme throughout the house was dark-green/brown/gray, that made everything even worse. And other thing - be aware of "resting" staff, as receptionist had made up one of the sofas in the lobby for the night. I felt kinda bad to disturb when I wanted to go out for some fresh air in the middle of the night. All in all, definitely not a 3*** hotel.
Review 99:Location was ideal. Quiet. Staff pleasant and polite. Not too friendly though.
Review 100:The rooms are a little dated.
Review 101:The location of this hotel in beautiful Tartu is spectacular. It is next to a nice park and a very short walk to Town Hall square, the bus station, and the university. Everything worked well and the staff were very helpful and professional. Great balconies looking over the park.
Review 102:Nothing. Would advise people to look for a room either at the frontof the hotel or on the upper storeys. View at back from second storeyis limited.
Review 103:It's an old, old-fashioned hotel, in the old town in Tartu. Quiet, spacious, gracious, very comfortable. Fish restaurant ('Thursday') isquite good and very good value. Something very tranquil about theBarclay Hotel. It looks out over big trees in a small park, and thebeautiful river. Tartu is a very special town - an unspoiled gem. TheBarclay is perfectly located, in the centre of everything.
Review 104:Car not protecting. :-(
Review 105:Very good location! - 2 min. From historical center and main points ofinterest. Good price, if you visit breakfast. Free parking infront ofhotel, if present places.
Review 106:Well, the attitude from hotel side was very bad about breakfast servingfor people, who stayed at hotel. I was very dissapointed!! Also room wascold as ice, because heater was set on lower grades, which on arrivalwasn't nice from hotel staff.
Review 107:Very good location.
Review 108:Hotel needs refreshment. Shower leaks and packing of cabin was deteriorated. You can get wet floor during shower.
Review 109:Good location (quite). Friendly staff. We ordered extra bed before and with our arrival everything was set already in the room. Room was big enough for 2 adults and 2 kids ( 5 and 1 year old).
Review 110:I've used to stay here many times - and it needed careful renovation 10 years ago already, especially the room interiors and bathrooms.
Review 111:It's an excellent located historical building.
Review 112:breakfast
Review 113:Wi-fi
Review 114:Breakfast Silence
Review 115:Friendly staff. Peaceful atmosphere. Excellent location. Excellent breakfast. Interesting classical building.
Review 116:Breakfast is rather poor
Review 117:Situation of the hotel
Review 118:cool
Review 119:Tired interior
Review 120:Room was clean and nice, also rather silent since it was towards the park. Good breakfast buffet.
Review 121:There were old wine stains on the table in the room. Internet connection was poor. Furniture needs to be refurbished.
Review 122:The room was a bit cold and completely lacks character. Very few channels on TV.
Review 123:Friendly staff, decent breakfast, excellent location, clean room.
Review 124:Noisy night club disturbs sleeping (on weekends).
Review 125:Excellent location near services close to the park.
Review 126:€€€€€€€€
Review 127:Very friendly staff, great location. Hotel is pet-friendly, which was one of the reasons we chose it.
