Reviews for Zur alten Brücke
Review 1:Michael is the nicest innkeeper we have ever met...he welcomed us to his house! The location in Schiltach is amazing, right on the river, with very beautiful views. Michael cooked us a delicious dinner and provided a wonderful breakfast in the morning. We wished we were staying longer! Thank you, Michael!
Review 2:We loved our stay at this B&B. Michael is a born host and we had a very warm welcome but plenty of privacy and space. Delicious dinner and breakfast. The hotel is right in the middle of the town and a great base from which to explore the lovely village on foot. Definitely recommend!
Review 3:nothing
Review 4:Great location, next to the river. People there makes us feel at home with great enthusiasm. And the host Michael is the chef, who makes reeeeally good food! They hold a really good restaurant. You must not miss it!
Review 5:The only thing we didn't like was leaving.
Review 6:This gasthaus has all the charm one could hope for in the Black Forest region. Michael, our proprietor and host, welcomed us with hugs and provided hearty meals.
Review 7:Good location beside the river with the best view. Warmheart staff and host, We leave early in the morning, but they still prepare everything ready.Good experience!
Review 8:The hotel is not fancy, but it’s clean and comfortable.
Review 9:We decided to spend the final three days of our European vacation in the Black Forest of Germany. We picked the beautiful and historic small town of Schiltach, primarily because it wasn’t too touristy. And we chose the Zur alten Brücke because of its location along a small river in a more quiet part of town and the short walk to the Schiltach Mitte train station. We made the right choice! The door to our mini-apartment opened to a narrow cobblestone street of half-timbered houses from the early 1700’s. It was a scene out of a fairy tail! And Michael, the owner and chef, did a wonderful job making our stay enjoyable – to include preparing delicious special meals to accommodate my wife’s gluten-free diet. Our stay at the Zur alten Brücke was indeed the highlight of our trip!
Review 10:Nothing.
Review 11:Very German gausthaus. Good simple food , plenty of local wine, upgraded to a suite, charming village. Stand by for a very warm greeting on arrival.
Review 12:Nice small hotel with friendly owner/chef and other staff, good breakfast and dinner, great location on the river with views up and down the charming valley town
Review 13:The smell of kitchen grease & fried foods wafted up to our rooms - Rooms could of used some air freshener to help reduce the odor.
Review 14:Michael was very welcoming to his Gasthaus - Hotel had a nice little beer garden along the stream. Rooms & bath were very clean & comfortable. Great location to walk & explore this often overlooked traditional & historical Black Forest village.
Review 15:I can't think of anything I would change.
Review 16:Everything! Location, service, facilities. It was all fantastic. The bed was especially comfortable. I wanted to steal the pillows :) Michael was an amazing host, always cheerful, and incredibly helpful with local information.
Review 17:Our host was quite friendly. We really enjoyed an evening spent in his beer garden by the river. This will be the perfect location for future visits when we have more tome for hiking.
Review 18:The owners always make you feel especially welcome and is one of the reasons why this property should be on any short-list! The beds were comfortable and the breakfast excellent. Dinner selection is typical German fair but so well prepared. This is not a luxury stay but it has that certain something that makes you come back!
Review 19:Our host was very nice and friendly. The house is typical and charming. From the roof you can see a beautiful street and on the other side you have the canal. Splendid moment !
Review 20:The owners were lovely and made me feel very welcome. I stayed in one of the apartments which had lots of space and a very comfortable bed. Breakfast was great and the WiFi worked fine.
Review 21:Greatly disappointed in our dinner, bland, tasteless and watery,When we complained the response was 'I did not cook it'Entire situation very badly handled.I work in hospitality, the way we were treated is a BIG no no.
Review 22:Super friendly Hostess,lovely room (9) I lived in Schiltach as a child,know the cuisine.Regular visitor(every 6 weeks or so)
Review 23:There cannot possibly be anything negative about Zur Alten Brucke!
Review 24:We liked everything, but this is a "people" business. The hosts make or break a property such as this, and there is NO way you could have hosts better than Michael & Lisa
Review 25:Proprietors Michael and Lisa make visitors so very welcome and look after every need. Great choice for breakfast and excellent food cooked by Michael,
Review 26:We arrived in the evening after a long drive and were greeted by the owner with great big hugs! The accommodations are spacious, comfortable and clean. The location can't be beat. Looking forward to returning!
Review 27:Our room was quite small and tricky to navigate and the bathroom was tiny, too. But the charm of the place and its location makes up for that.
Review 28:We were warmly welcomed by the proprietor upon our arrival. After settling in, we had a beer at the inn's dining spot located right alongside the river, which was wonderful.
Review 29:We were greeted with great big hugs from the owner, Michael, who was looking to help us in any way he could. Also a trained chef, Michael prepared a delicious dinner. Breakfast was a selection of fruits, meats, cheeses, breads, cereals, & yogurts. Eggs & bacon available upon request. Room was chilly, but the provided space heater remedied that quickly. Accommodations were comfortable & sufficient. Room even included a hair dryer. Great view of the river from our 3rd story room. Lovely overnight stay.
Review 30:A lovely bed and breakfast with a FANTASTIC host in Michael who could not do enough for us Breakfast was excellent, the dinner menu was varied - a lot of meat I. This country - and as non meat eaters Michael catered beautifully to our needs and we had an excellent fish meal.
Review 31:It was all very good. The one thing I didn't like was that I could smell somebody had been smoking in our room (there was a no smoking sign so it wasn't really the owners fault)
Review 32:Warm hospitality. Typical Black Forest Inn. Excellent supper and breakfast. Great location in old town of Schiltach.
Review 33:The hotel is very attractive and in a great setting on the river; owner is very friendly and hospitable; great restaurant on site and an excellent breakfast.
Review 34:Michael, the proprietor, was the perfect host. He was friendly and helpful to each of his guests. The food and beer were very good too. I will stay there again.
Review 35:Can't think of anything really. Hotel tilts more toward rustic than glitzy, which is just fine with us.
Review 36:Michael the owner welcomes his guests like family. This is very much a traditional small town family hotel. Schiltach is a very beautiful half-timbered village. Hotel restaurant is a small family-style place offering very good meals.
Review 37:Zur alten Brucke was a delightful place to stay. We were welcomed by Michael and his staff with open arms-literally- and immediately felt at home :-) we were able to park directly outside and have beers to our lips within 5minutes of arriving- much appreciated after a long day travelling! The service and food were outstanding, the traditional dishes in particular. Buffet breakfast was delicious and set us up for our road trip that day after a wander around the beautiful town of Schiltach. We'd definitely return if in the Black Forest and would highly recommend to anyone seeking a b&b stay with a personal feel :-)
Review 38:Right from our arrival and beyond we received much warmth and assistance from Michael. He and his staff were most attentive and efficient and our room was very comfortable and clean. We loved the luxurious bedding and the plentiful breakfast. The position of the hotel was wonderful with the river close by and was also central for all visits.
Review 39:We found nothing not to like
Review 40:Micheal, the owner, could not be faulted nothing was too much trouble for him. Food was fantastic. When we return to the Black forest area we would definatly stay here again
Review 41:Nothing
Review 42:The hotel is in an very good location with a friendly staff. Also the food here tasted amazing, highly recommended to have your dinner here. The beer they serve is Alpirsbach beer which is the best pilsner in the world.
Review 43:In the heart of the Black Forest, the Schiltach Guest House, Zur alten Brücke, was a treat. We chose to begin and end our days having a meal with host Michael in the cozy restaurant. The town of Schiltach is beautiful and close to the Open Air Museum in Gutach and Cuckoo Clock Triberg!
Review 44:Everything! Great staff, comfortable rooms and beds, clean, restaurant is excellent, location superb. Dog is welcome in rooms and restaurant. Breakfasts are immense and fresh, dinners are excellent and many local dishes are served. Village is lovely and picturesque with lots of quirky shops and museums. Third time here and would definitely go back again as consistently awesome.
Review 45:Good location with beautiful view. very quiet. room is big with all facilities. WIFI is very good. breakfast is also fantastic, especially fruit. The owners are very nice and enthusiastic. Perfect experience.
Review 46:We loved everything, from the moment we arrived. Michael, the owner, has been extremely nice with us, and he and his staff went out of their way to help us, and to make us feel confortable. The place is superb, in an ancient traditional house, with the possibility of having a drink right on the canal; the food is superb: breakfast is exquisite, but don't forget to stay for dinner as well, and to top your dinner with the best home-made high-patisserie apfelstrudel ever! Michael is not only a super host, but also a great chef! Finally, a great <bravo!> to the guy that waited on us at dinner, he has been extremely nice and kind, and we had one of our most beautiful evenings ever!
Review 47:Everything. Breakfast brilliant. Beer garden wonderful. Room very comfortable. Above all, everyone involved so welcoming, it felt just like being at home!
Review 48:Nothing really. The furniture in the hotel room is not new, nor is the hotel, but all is clean and fine.
Review 49:The ratings on Booking.com made me select this hotel for 1 night stay during a 5 day Black Forrest trip with 2 of my sons (20,16). We enjoyed the stay very much. Large room, actually a small apartment or suite style room was good and clean. Dinner was excellent in the small restaurant in home cooking style. Breakfast next morning was very good with lots of fresh fruit and pastries etc etc. Owner/cook prepares whatever eggs you want. The owner takes real pride in making your stay a memorable experience. The town is also a really stunning place to walk through. Very worth a detour or just include in your trip planning.
Review 50:The church bells at 6am!
Review 51:Hosts were really welcoming and very attentive. Breakfasts superb with a huge variety of fruit. Evening meals also excellent. Location was lovely - the beer garden alongside the river was really pretty.
Review 52:Nothing, we enjoyed out two night stay and would be happy to return.
Review 53:Michael carried our bags up the stairs to our room which had good ensuite facilities and a large open roof deck accessed from our room which did allow a limited view of the river (as our room faced the rear street0. very good value accommodation, friendly and helpful hosts, we had a very good meal on one evening in their restaurant (and a good meal elsewhere in town the other night). Scilltag is an interesting town with four very varied but interesting museums.
Review 54:This was our second time staying here and I was just as wonderful as last time. The owners are very welcoming, friendly, and helpful. They even helped arrange for a birthday cake for my husband and son. The food at the restaurant is excellent. The breakfast included with the room was wonderful also with lots of fresh fruit and eggs and bacon made to order. This is a great, historic guesthouse in a quintessential Black Forest village. We will definitely be back for another visit! Thank you, Michael and Lisa!
Review 55:the boss is very friendly, he speaks perfect English, the restaurant is good and convenient, the food is ok. A old and typical German house with a few old objects .The double room is very big with livingroom and a kichen.
Review 56:1. Very friendly owners.2. Very nice location, next to the river. 3. A really nice beer garden - restaurant 4. Excellent food!!! Michael is a GREAT chef!!! 5. Shciltach is a very romantic and peaceful place in general.
Review 57:The owners were very welcoming; the breakfasts a luxurious spread of foods from granola to cold meats, with hot fare provided on order. Dinners, not included in the room price, were also lovely--so good that we kept coming back rather than looking for other places to eat--and all cooked by owner Michael. And Schiltach is a gorgeous old hamlet in the middle of the Black Forest.
Review 58:Nothing really. We were happy to have selected the Gasthof
Review 59:Lovely Town, four very interesting museums. Michael and Lisa very attentive and friendly. Michel carried our suitcase up two storeys to our room, which was fine and had a large outdoor terrace facing to the rear and very useful for sitting out with a drink. Breakfast is included in the tariff, and included scrambled egg and a very good Buffett selection. We had a meal in the restaurant one night and it was very good and reasonably priced. Lisa even put a load of washing through her machine which was above the call of duty; she is American and they both speak reasonable English !, (joking)
Review 60:Room we stayed in was a bit on the small side but only a minor point as the setting was so lovely.
Review 61:What a lovely hotel in a perfect setting and the friendliest welcome we have ever had. Schiltach really is one of the prettiest p!aces we have ever stayed. Drove to Baden Baden on the high road which was a very easy and scenic drive.
Review 62:We had the best breakfast of our entire trip at this cute B & B. The owners speak excellent English, and were very kind and helpful. Schlitach was a very cute city. Our clean and otherwise normal room had a nice view of the town creek.
Review 63:The room/bathroom were a little small, but welcome to Europe.
Review 64:The food was great, and the people were so nice. We only mentioned that we were going zip-lining and the owner offered to drive us there so we didn't have to hike. When we walked in, she handed us the wifi password, and at breakfast there was a huge fruit spread AND we were asked if we wanted eggs and bacon with that, and how we'd like it cooked. It was in a beautiful location with a biergaten outside. Everything was clean and comfortable.
Review 65:What's not to like.
Review 66:Very friendly and informative owners, Michael and Lisa. Breakfast to die for, beautiful location, easy to get around, nice evening meals.
Review 67:Michael and Lisa running this owner operated guesthouse were very friendly and accommodating, going the extra mile to make our stay enjoyable. We were upgraded to the apartment which was lovely to have so much space after previous accommodation in small hotel rooms. We thoroughly enjoyed the home cooked meals and the plentiful European buffet breakfast with a variety of fresh fruit, meat, cheese and rolls. Schiltach was a very interesting and attractive town to stay in with the added attraction of hiking and exploring the Black Forrest.
