Reviews for Gasthof zur Schweiz
Review 1:No lift! Not suitable for anyone with mobility issues
Review 2:Traditional German hotel/guest house. Very comfy apartment style room on the top floor (no lift) convenient location and very good continental breakfast.
Review 3:There were no ironing facilities or kettle to boil water or make hot beverages with.
Review 4:It was close to the university and the general CBD. Was in close proximity to all major amenities without the need for public transport. Very spacious room that I got!
Review 5:If they can open the reception desk a bit more (e.g. 20:00), it is more convenient.
Review 6:I really liked the room which was large enough. Also, they served a variety of food for breakfast.
Review 7:Having to pay for WiFi but didn't use it as it was the same price as a europass for data on phone and could use it anywhere. Parking is limited, beware times of on street parking, we got a ticket early on Monday morning as we were preparing to leave. For those used to the German parking system or speak German it wouldn't be a problem.
Review 8:Excellent value for money, very hard to beat on price. Perfect location for town centre only a 2 minute walk from Jena Tower.
Review 9:Close to University. Excellent breakfast. No need to talk with any staff (my key was in mailbox, room was large and clean). Good value for the price (it is not 4 star but a solid B&B)
Review 10:Dont do beer in the bar! Pillows need replacing, Some free shower gel would be useful.
Review 11:Staff friendly, clean, central to Jena no need for buses, large room. We were a group playing football in the town- staff not phased.
Review 12:The room is rather bare, to be honest, and it could do with a bit of cheering up. The table was very low (a coffee table actually), thus working on my laptop was very uncomfortable. The reception is unmanned after 18:00, which means one has to arrive earlier than 18:00, or else let the hotel know so that they can arrange your entry (I arrived by an earlier train, so I'm not sure how well this late check-in works).
Review 13:The room was very quiet and warm, with clean bathroom with a nice shower. The bed was comfy, although only twin-size. The paid wifi was strong and stable, and for 5 EUR one can have unlimited use. The location is great, directly by the center in a quieter side street. The actual center was a 5 min walk, the main train station 10 min. The staff was professional. The breakfast was included in the price and was fresh with good selection.
Review 14:Wifi is charged extra (not very much though) but signal was very weak in my room. I ended up using eduroam from the University next door...
Review 15:I liked my stay in Gasthof zur Schweiz. Location is perfect for Jena, room was spacious and clean. Breakfast was good with plenty of choice. Very good value for my money.
Review 16:Paid WI-FI.
Review 17:The hotel is located in the heart of Jena. Great bars and pubs just around the corner. Jena tower is 2 minutes away. Friendly staff and excellent breakfast.
Review 18:The reception closes at 11:00 AM on Sunday and I had not received an email about how to get my key. I arrived at 9:00 PM and could not get in which was disconcerting, at the least. This is a low service hotel which may be OK for the price, but it caught me by surprise. The lighting for the stairs was anything but bright.
Review 19:The facilities were basic, clean, and breakfast was very good.
Review 20:Booking the room for me alone 3 months before coming, I marked twice that I prefere a single wide bed (not two beds) in a room. Finaly I was given a room with 2 beds, and I was told that there is no possibility to give me a room with a single wide bed.
Review 21:Well connected to the areas needed, 10 minutes from rail station 5 minutes from the trams. Relatively inexpensive travel (though when you are comparing with London...)
Review 22:No elevator to get up to the top floor.
Review 23:Great location and well worth the price for a small family of four.
Review 24:atmosphere, the staff and others
Review 25:noisy bathroom fan
Review 26:large clean room
Review 27:Noise - road, revellers, train, glass recycling
Review 28:Location near to restaurants, city life
Review 29:Excellent breakfast, great value, nice staff.
Review 30:toilet paper was more like sandpaper, but it seems to be the standard in Germany
Review 31:Location, breakfast, staff, cleanliness
Review 32:Curt, unhelpful staff; (paid) wifi did not work; miniscule parking spaces
Review 33:Location; good breakfast
Review 34:Every thing
Review 35:Late night noise
Review 36:Location near university and shopping
Review 37:staff rather impolite, not helpful, not used to use words like bitte, danke, entschuldigung or equivalents in other languages
Review 38:everything else
Review 39:Two separate beds instead of one big :-(
Review 40:Very nice place, clean and quiet.
Review 41:Apartment was huge
Review 42:No elevator, staff was a bit distant, no free WiFi
Review 43:Clean rooms, good breakfast.
Review 44:The older building did not provide enough insulation to keep out the late night noise of the neighbouring rooms - specifically the upstairs.
Review 45:The Gasthaus is very close to the University campus which was my destination and it is centrally located to all of Jena - within walking distance to practically everything including the train station. The Haus is clean, well kept, and well managed.
Review 46:NO free wifi! You must register with the front desk to get a password for the wifi so if you arrive after hours and will need the internet send them a message in advance.
Review 47:A very sweet little hotel, that was clean, comfortable, had a nice breakfast and was in a fantastic location on a quiet street just off the main streets with shops and restaurants.
Review 48:Wifi should be free. Could do with some nice, new towels in rooms. Lighting in hallways could be improved, as well.
Review 49:Great location in Jena within walking distance of historic center, market, university, etc. Clean, nice rooms. Breakfast room has lots of old-world charm and buffet was pretty good.
Review 50:Maybe a bit of shampoo in the bathroom. I found only soap, but this is really a minor thing.
Review 51:I liked anything of my stay at this hotel. Very abundant breakfast and very kind personnel. I was at the 1st floor so the WiFi was very powerful too. 5 minutes from the Markt Square
Review 52:Bed: good Sheets: good waterpressure: good breakfast: good internetreception: at times satisfactory, at times non-existent location: very good in general, good value for money.
Review 53:Well it's maybe not the hotel fault but I paid illimited Internet to use it with my tablet, but I was on the 4th floor and I was nearly impossible to use the connection more than 5 minutes...That's all.
Review 54:People from the hotel were really kind and always helped me when I asked something. The hotel is 1 minute from the center and 8 by feet to the train station so perfect if you are there to visit places like LEIPZIG, HALLE, CHEMNITZ, DRESDEN...The breakfast was maybe always the same but it was really correct. I recommanded this place if you are searching a good mix between "price, situation, confort".
Review 55:Could speak german and english, very friendly personnal always thereto help. Very good breakfast with a pretty large choice. The roomwas extreme large with a big flat screen, very confortable in arustical style.
Review 56:They need to improve their WiFi access to the access the internet. I was not able to connnect both my computer and phone at the same time. English skills not very good.
Review 57:Good location and clean rooms.
Review 58:A really quiet hotel. The furnishing is simple but very comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful in this family run hotel. This hotel is extremely central and within easy walking distance of the railway stations if your luggage is light. Breakfast was typically continental. Coffee was good. The price was also very good.
Review 59:Wifi costs 5 Euros and was pretty spotty.
Review 60:The staff was friendly and everything was clean. The rooms were nice forthe price. The location in Wagnergasse is close to everything you wouldwant to do in Jena.
Review 61:The internet connection, which cost 5 Euro, was extremely slow. They also provided an extremely small amount of soap for showering, and on the second day did not replenish the suply.
Review 62:The room was well-kept and pretty clean.
Review 63:The only thing that I didn't like was the colour scheme of the room - there is a lot of orange and that is my least favourite colour ;. On a more serious note, it would be nice if there were a kettle and a mug in the room.
Review 64:Location: very central. Very clean. Big room, big cupboard with many hangers, big bathroom, comfortable bed. Breakfast: more than adequate.
Review 65:I would prefer larger toilette towels.
Review 66:I am a returning guest of this Hotel. Large and clean rooms, good position in the centre of Jena. The hotel is very quiet, people at the reception very kind and helpful. I will come back for sure.
Review 67:No elevator, a little nosie from the street if windows are open during the summer, however this is also nice (a feeling of a live town).
Review 68:Nice big rooms, nice lokation, tidiness, good breakfast
Review 69:Very clean room with a very comfortable bed and a very good shower. The building site outside the hotel did not disturb at all. I liked the friendly and very helpful staff. Breakfast was great, fresh bread and the fresh coffee was really tasty as well.
Review 70:The lady there was quite cold and impatient. The area around was under construction, so it was very noisy in the day time. The Internet is toooooooo slow.
Review 71:The room is quite OK. The location is near town center. Very easy to find food around.
Review 72:The hotel has no elevator so we had to carry everything up 3 floors. Thehotel closes at 6pm and, after that time, no staff is available (noteven for check-in) which forced us to spend the first night elsewhere. The rooms have heating (defintely not important in the Summer) but no air conditioning. In very hot days the rooms get very hot and there is no way to cool them.
Review 73:The place is cozy and nice. It was clean and proper. It is located rightin the central Jena, a few meters away from restaurants and bars. We hadbreakfast in the hotel and it was good. The hotel staff are kind and, althought they barely speak English, they are helpful and we were ableto communicate perfectly :)
Review 74:Maybe when the owners save up a few Euro they can upgrade the towels.
Review 75:The somewhat spartan, but clean and serviceable, accommodation (my roomat least) was more than compensated by the fair price and excellentbreakfast that comes as part of the lodging price.Fruestuck was ample (fruit, a variety of meat, a variety of cheese; cereals; juice; jams and jellies; a variety of excellent bread and rolls; salmon (lachs) ... each table was provided with a pot of coffee and a nice flickering candle. The provisions were generously supplied and kept cool and covered, except the warm bread! Just a few steps from the sights of Jena Centrum and Friedrich Schiller Uni. German language skills come in handy (duh!). Nicely priced wifi connection.
Review 76:After the shampoo was over it wasn't replaced with new. Other than that, the service was excellent and discrete.
Review 77:The hotel staff is very kind and helpful and the place is very good value for money. In the city center, quiet and comfortable.
Review 78:No lift. Limited parking in the adjacent yard, indebted to central location. Currently ongoing extensive street reconstruction in vicinity; on the contrary it can bring points of the future.
Review 79:Quiet homely facility within the city centre.
Review 80:the breakfast was really excellent! Friendly staff, big room.
Review 81:Perfect location, quiet, and comfortable!
Review 82:Breakfast was great!
Review 83:nice
Review 84:Friendly staff, central location.
Review 85:It was near the center of Jena. There are lots of good bars and restaurants!
Review 86:excellent location, friendly hotel and pleasant staff
Review 87:WIFI is available, but very slow, sometimes disconnected on the 4th floor I cannot even send 1 picture
Review 88:cheap price
Review 89:Nothing special. Breakfast average, but OK. Room a bit old, but also OK.
Review 90:Good location, spacious single room, good value for money.
Review 91:In the city albeit not near any noisy roads
Review 92:Worth for money
Review 93:No restaurant
Review 94:Large room for single.
Review 95:I liked the value for money, the staff and their offer for breakfast (which is included).
Review 96:Breakfast was wonderful!!! Our room was very confortable and clean.
Review 97:the location the breakfast

Review 102:No lift to 4th floor No reception after 6pm At breakfast re fruit when 'gone over ripe' not replaced

Review 105:Very comfortable rooms with nice wooden design, delicious breakfast.
Review 106:internet is very bad in 403
Review 107:Well organised with keys left on site for me. good location, we had 3 rooms for 8 people on a motorbike holiday and would recommend it to others
Review 108:No 24 hour person at the desk
Review 109:value for money
Review 110:Very central location, traditional lodgings, would recommend it
Review 111:Furninture somewhat worned out, bathroom is clean but needs renovation.
Review 112:Quite, location.
Review 113:Friendly stuff, good location, clean rooms.
Review 114:A very convenient location, beautful room, elegant breakfast andfriendly staff
Review 115:All was very good
Review 116:Arriving after 18:00 I had to use the key code advised, which meant no hotel staff were there on my arrival, this was very impersonal,
