Reviews for Gasthaus Schützen
Review 1:The rooms were updated this year (2015) and very nice, in particular the bathroom was beyond nothing we expected. The owner was very pleasant and knowledgeable and helpful about local attractions.
Review 2:The wifi passcode wasn't working, and the cable was hard to figure out, but we didn't care so much about that, as we arrived later in the evening, and left straightaway after breakfast.
Review 3:Loved everything about this place. Especially the radiant heated flooring in the bathroom. Would go back again.
Review 4:Pretty building in the centre of town with a lovely walk up to the castle. Friendly and helpful staff, comfortable room, delicious breakfast. We had 2 very good evening meals in the restaurant. We felt at home here and would stay again.
Review 5:Nothing.
Review 6:The hosts were kind. Breakfast was good (they even remembered beverage choices from the day before). Short walk to the bus stop for travel to Gutach. The family room was spacious and the living area has a refrigerator, kettle, dining table, glasses and a sink. There is a grocery store just up the street for snacks and drinks.
Review 7:internet issues
Review 8:Nearly everything! Breakfast was ok... but staff/owner was terrific. Even translated the menu in English for us! (Restaurant next door). 2bd,1ba VERY clean and well suited for a family (we have 5 of us). parking across street! couldn't get the internet but we enjoyed the down time. Can walk through the city with a "treasure hunt" map- kids loved it.
Review 9:We got confirmation by phone it was possible to have dinner arriving at 21:30. We arrived as planned, but all we got offered was a wurst salad! I wish they would have simply said it was not possible to eat.
Review 10:The room is nice and newly refurbished.
Review 11:It would have been good to have a bit more information available about what events were on during the Christmas period but there was lots of information about activities in the warmer weather.
Review 12:Very comfortable, clean family unit. Friendly staff (especially since we were staying over the Christmas period) and the chef even offered to cook us a special meal which was very kind. Good breakfast and the location is right in town
Review 13:Internet connection, neighbors making noises at 3 am, got charged for breakfast for the kids although booking says kids under 8 are free.
Review 14:Room clean, close to Triberg fall, easy to find.
Review 15:Nice town, close to many attractions. We had a family room which was a great value. Staff spoke enough English to communicate with us. Good breakfast. Restaurant attached to the hotel is also great. I would stay again.
Review 16:The staff was very friendly and helpful. One young woman was working hard showing us our room, as well as waitressing and bussing the adjoining restaurant. All the while she was very pleasant and helpful. Our room had a walk in closet with two U-shaped shelves and a very roomy bathroom. The restaurant had great food with tender meat and a wonderful pasta dish made with local mushrooms. We were hungry around 5 and were the only ones inside the restaurant at the time, but that changed and by 6:30 I could see it was a popular place.
Review 17:We had 5 people traveling across Germany over a 2 week period. We had several stops scheduled ranging from 1 - 3 nights per stop. Originally, we had a reservation for just one night at Gasthaus Schützen in Hornberg. When we arrived at the location scheduled prior to Hornberg, it was awful. We decided to see if we could go on to Hornberg and stay for 3 days. The Gasthaus Schützen was able to provide a room for the additional 2 nights and suggestions on activities. The food was great for both dinner and breakfast. This was the best part of our trip!
Review 18:There was nothing we didn't like.
Review 19:The rooms were spotless and came with everything we needed. The staff were so helpful. We had dinner twice at the restaurant and both times the food was excellent and we were given generous portions. Location was great and quiet. My kids loved it, too.

Review 38:We arrived tired from a long trip. We were greeted by friendly staff and shown our room. We were offered dinner and within 1 hour we had 3 happy kids and great food. We received information on the local area and when breakfast was. Our trip was great. As a family of 5 the room was perfect and I would highly recommend.
Review 39:Unfortunately due to the festival, the manager was very busy and really not much service but had my laundry down by the housecleaner which was great. Breakfast not much but for the price adequate.
Review 40:Great location. Close to Main Street and we jagged a local spring festival. It was lovely
Review 41:Location, the staff, clean and neat - superb! We were a couple with kids ages 7 and 5. The conus card is complimentary - what a delight! The location is close to lidl for groceries, to triberg, hausach, wolfach - all a few minutes ride. We even went an hour driving to Rust to Europa park. The kids loved the surprise of having a play box in the closet. A refrigerator was exactly what we needed to get fully staffed to our day trips and picnics. Best value for money in our 2 weeks all over the Black Forest.
Review 42:A simple breakfast, but overall perfect.
Review 43:Owner was friendly. The hotel restaurant have provided the delicious western food. Super market was very nearby to the hotel.
Review 44:The only detractor from our stay was that the room was freezing. The radiators were off when we arrived and the room didn't heat up until the following morning.
Review 45:This was a fantastic hotel. We booked the family room and it had all of the comfort and amenities of a small apartment! The staff was very friendly and the food was some of the best we've had.
Review 46:Leaving
Review 47:Ambience - resulting from combination of location, surroundings, facilities, food, and staff. Given a travel card which was useful in providing free transport on local railway. Would stay again.

Review 53:The family room was huge! It had two separate bedrooms, bathroom, and sitting area, along with plenty of storage space. The owners even left some toys for the kids to play with.
Review 54:Loved the staff, room and breakfast. The parking was directly across from the room. We were given a passbook for each guest with discounts for major attractions. Unfortunately we ran out of time before we ran out of things to do. We will be going back to Hornberg and will stay here again.
Review 55:I asked 2 rooms but only 1 was ready and the owner offerd 1 room in another gasthouse nearby instead.
Review 56:The owner was really kind and caring. Bed was quite clean and room was comfortable. Breakfast bread was fresh and a good quality.
Review 57:The family room with sitting room & 2 bedrooms were spacious & comfortable. Friendly host. Good breakfast. The atmosphere of the surrounding was leisure & peaceful.
Review 58:The room was fantastic. Large enough that we could move the cot slightly away from the main bed and the bathroom was huge with a lovely shower and bath. The town of Hornberg was lovely with a good selection of restaurants and things to see and do even with a young child.
Review 59:Some people may have thought there was a little road noise however after nine it was quiet, it didn't bother us
Review 60:Easy to find, owner spoke excellent English, food good value and mixed grill outstanding coupled with good beer, good wifi, great shower, fantastic breakfast
Review 61:Very charming little guest house, in a wonderful town. Highly recommend visiting Hornberg and staying here. Definitely eat in the restaurant-one of the best German meals we had!
Review 62:Nice owner and quiet place. Clean rooms. Owners will give you tips to make a great time out of your vacations. Tip: Go and have dinner at Tannhauser.
Review 63:Everything. Owners were just great. Dinner was excellent. Room was spotless with great shower, free parking, good typical German breakfast. Close to Triberg, yet not too close. Fantastic place.
Review 64:Breakfast is basic, cold meat and bread with cereal and jogurt. Webooked 2 rooms together because we have 4 kids that need to be close andended up getting a lovely family room apart from the hotel and thesecond room was in the next door building on the second floor. Luckilymy eldest was fine staying far away from us but keep this in mind if youhave younger kids.
Review 65:Situated in a lovely small town. Ideal for hiking and driving around.Food in restaurant is great. Family apartment with 2 rooms has ownentrance from the street. Staff are friendly and helpful. Chef was readyto greet us every morning. Highly recommend the restaurant!
Review 66:As it was mentioned previously, the breakfast was rather basic. But we wouldn't complain it too much since we were the only guest at the time. We got a feeling that one should not expect fluent English to be spoken at the hotel. But they were kind and helpful.
Review 67:Room was wide and very comfortable. Though we expected to have supper at the hotel, the restaurant was closed on Saturday. However, the other restaurant, which the personnel recommended, was absolutely good. Honestly, the alternative restaurant could be even better than the one at the hotel!
