Reviews for Hotel Rural Cortijo de Salia

Review 1:Finding the property was difficult. Try and get coordinates for your SatNav.

Review 2:Wonderfully welcoming owners. Great selection of excellent food. Beautiful room with lovely view.

Review 3:Food a little repetitive but very good value

Review 4:Peaceful location.Very pretty gardens, obviously loved by its owner Alfonso.Pool immaculate .Staff very friendly and helpful.

Review 5:No small village within walking distance. Need transport.

Review 6:We loved the quiet location, the lovely views, dinner in the gardens, the pool to ourselves most days and the great relaxing jazz background music.

Review 7:Shortage of sun beds by the pool on our first day when the hotel was full !

Review 8:Peace and quiet. Attentive staff. Cleanliness. Evening meals in the garden.

Review 9:We came to this very rural place in hope of tasting some great local cuisine. The food was sadly disappointing and pricey. I ordered a plate of "mix and old and new cheeses", and got a plate with 6 pieces of the same cheese. A plate of tapas was clearly coming straight out of packs of pre-sliced cold cuts from the supermarket.

Review 10:Amazing location with a great view. Very friendly and sweet hosts. Large, beautiful and clean room.

Review 11:I had a wonderful time in Spain. The hotel was a very comfortable place to stay at, and the staff was really kind. The rooms were clean, the food was good and really not that expencive. I recomment this hotel to everybody! I liked it that much that I stayed a couple of days longer than planned.

Review 12:Nothing, all terrific

Review 13:Lovely staff, very helpful, excellent food, spacious accomodation and spotless. The gardens are a delight and the wine list is very good.

Review 14:The views, the gardens, the simple, elegant and spacious rooms with doors opening to a beautiful valley view. The pool and of course the staff. And, even though the breakfast is not what we have encountered on a five start cruise, (it is proper, fresh and simple), it is fine - including fresh eggs, fruit, juice, coffe, breads and Spanish cold cuts - inside or out in the garden. And - there are only a few other rooms, so it's like an over-sized B&B. We stayed here for our third time.

Review 15:I would think it difficult to find complaint. The three nights we stayed were very comfortable.

Review 16:Brilliant for touring the local villages, short drive to the coast, excellent local restaurants and a lovely meal in the hotel on my wifes birthday!! Thank you.

Review 17:Nothing.

Review 18:The rooms were large and very comfortable. Each room had a little patio area looking out on the mountains. The garden is beautifully maintained.

Review 19:Not a bad experience but the pool loungers would be a nice touch and pool towels , even though it was still a bit cool for us to swim .

Review 20:The peace and quiet The quality of the hotel, the rooms so quaint and the food especially good. Fresh and tasty. The grounds are immaculate , exceptional all round .

Review 21:Its not really a bad experience because breakfast was a nice meal but having exactly the same for seven mornings was getting a little boring.

Review 22:If your looking for a comfortable rural break with the most wonderful helpful hosts then this is the place for you. Highly recommended.

Review 23:It could be only us, but we did find the beds a little bit to hard....sorry !! But with having that said, we are already dreaming of "next time", hopefully this fall.

Review 24:Incredible well maintained and looked after small little hotel/pension, the same goes for the outdoor area the pool included. More friendly and serviceminded hosts would be hard to find (if possible...) Thank you so much.

Review 25:There is nothing to dislike.

Review 26:We liked everything about this hotel. Alfonso and the staff were brilliant and made us very welcome. The room was lovely and the huge bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was good and the dinners were very tasty. We were there two years ago and we will certainly go back. The pool area is lovely and so are the garden areas.

Review 27:Nothing

Review 28:Everything. We had one of the rooms with a terrace from which you could look out onto the beautiful countryside and stroll to the pool. Beds were very comfortable and big, room very clean and tastefully furnished and the bathroom great. Breakfast plentiful, charming and delicious

Review 29:As this hotel is not close to a town you are caught with having to use their restaurant. Whilst the food is good and reasonably priced the wine is significantly overpriced. I found one bottle which was on sale for twice the price I had paid at a hotel 25 miles away the previous night.

Review 30:Very friendly staff, comfortable room and very peaceful setting. Availability of restaurant for evening meal

Review 31:WiFi in room poor on several occasions

Review 32:Situation fantastic - peaceful, with wonderful views; coastal resort with lots of variety is close to hand, with many, varied Bars, Restaurants, Cafes. Yet far enough away not to impinge! Great hosts, excellent food (breakfast particularly generous) & wide choice of traditonal quality, local dishes for Dinner. Wonderful countryside to explore in all directions, with economic, quality Tapas at many bars in the area for lunch. Away from the affectation of the Costa del Sol everybody knows about.

Review 33:There was nothing that we could say that we did not like.

Review 34:Alfonso and the staff at the Cortijo de Salia were all attentive always there to help but never obvious. The whole place was tastefully decorated and very clean. Breakfasts were a delight and the evening meals very tasty. Would certainly visit again.

Review 35:Dinner menus were a bit uninspiring, with chips with everything. Luke warm water for showering, on last day of stay.

Review 36:Very peaceful, with excellent service from Alfonso and his family. Clean, with all of the facilities you might expect for a small rural hotel. Good house wine.

Review 37:A lovely quiet place in the hills. If you want to be away from the beach resorts yet be able to visit them along with the small hillside villages or the cites more inland, then this is an ideal location. It is only 350m off a good road yet feels lovely, quiet and rural. The food was excellent and we dined there almost every night. The Pool was also a great attraction after a busy day out. Would recommend to friends

Review 38:Second visit to Hotel Rural and it was excellent. Better than previous because the weather was even better and so lounging around the pool was lovely.Eating outside in the evening was very comfortable and the food is excellent. The owners and staff really make an effort to make you feel comfortable.

Review 39:Alphonso and his wife Inma take immense care of every single guest on a genuine personal level - the food is truly delicious and includes many local specialities, not the bland international cooking that one can sometimes find elsewhere. The tranquility of the surroundings are unparalled and one is really made to feel at home (without worrying about daily burdens!).

Review 40:The views were amazing and the pool was a few steps from my door. The staff were really helpful and with my limited Spanish very patient as well.

Review 41:Had to leave because our trip was over !!

Review 42:The hotel was friendly, comfortable and very well run. The facilities were good and the location excellent. We had a lovely stay and would recommend to others to stay there

Review 43:there was nothing I did not like

Review 44:the location was excellent. it was peaceful and the views were stunning. The Service was excellent and the owners very friendly. I would recommend this to anyone who loves to be in a good quality hotel in wonderful surroundings. The coast is only half an hour away at the most

Review 45:Smal nice hotel, good food and plesant owners

Review 46:Wonderful relaxing place to stay with lovely friendly staff and great garden and pool

Review 50:Peaceful and beautiful location, good value, staff very helpful.

Review 51:Beautiful quiet hotel with country views. Very clean throughout. Great pool for the children. Staff were charming with our 8 year old.

Review 52:The staff was warm, welcoming and made us feel at home. Dinner was nothing less than exelent! the facility and view are amazing.

Review 53:The hotel is gorgeous, staff wonderful and the view is incredible. The breakfast was delicious.

Review 54:Beautiful surroundings and very relaxed atmosphere. Room was spacious and comfortable.

Review 55:this hotel is superperfect the staff very nice area quiet and beautiful!!!!

Review 56:Quiet and friendly.

Review 57:nothing

Review 58:Just about everything, views, room, food, the staff, the pool and garden as we've said everything

Review 59:Great location, lovely views, peace and quiet, clean and comfortable, nice food

Review 60:Perfect hospitality. Best-ever experience since using booking, com (>5 years)

Review 61:Everything

Review 62:The plastic sheet under the cotton sheet on the bed.

Review 63:All lovely - very friendly, beautiful setting, very nice complimentary breakfast.

Review 64:There was nothing to dislike.

Review 65:location, hospitality, food, comfort - a wonderful place for a relaxing time in a beautiful area of Spain.

Review 66:atmosphere landscape team very solid breakfast and dinner (optional)

Review 67:Friendly staff, amazing view, peaceful location, very clean rooms.

Review 68:Position/setting Staff food room gardens/pool

Review 69:Everything was perfect and we will be back. The hosts were attentative but not intrusive.

Review 70:The access route.

Review 71:Hotel, garden, views and, last but not least, the owners.

Review 72:Location-friendliness, quiet and beautiful

Review 73:Fabulous find. Such pleasant staff. Would love to return. Gorgeous vistas.

Review 74:The wines were a bit expensive.

Review 75:Our hosts were perfect. Very helpful and attentive without being excessive. The food was excellent and well presented. Beds very comfortable.

Review 76:Wonderful restful setting with breathtaking views. Warm friendly welcome. Very pleasant rustic style room but with all the comforts. Well placed for exploring the Axarquia region.

Review 77:Our last night in Andalucia – we didn't want to stay in beach concrete. So this hidey hole up in the mountains was just the job ... and still < 1 hour from Malaga airport. Would be very super in summer.

Review 78:a evening meal menu in the room would have helped our plans for the evening

Review 79:Room was comfortable. Good to see there was a hairdryer in the bathroom showing a response to an earlier comment. Very pleasant owner.

Review 80:The entrance to the drivway from the road was difficult. It is better to approach from the right hand side of the road rather than turning across the road. It is very steep. Once on the driveway there are no problems and it is worth it to get to this lovely hotel.

Review 81:Beautiful location. Very quiet. Room was clean, comfortable, elegant and decorated in a traditional Spanish style. Views from the room and from the swimming pool area were lovely. Parking is secure in the hotel grounds.

Review 82:Beautiful location, had a wonderful relaxing time at this hotel. The owners Alfonso and Inma were lovely. We stayed for a week and hope to return soon!

Review 83:Everything was very good - the Staff were very pleasant - the ambience of the hotel was lovely and very comfortable - it was spotlessly clean. If you are looking for a rural location with lovely views in a Spanish Country Hotel- this is the place!

Review 84:Stil feel could do with a small fridge in room and perhaps tea/coffee making facility.

Review 85:Third time for us. We love the position with mountain viewsetc. It is relaxing,Alfonso great helpful without being in your face. We love it there

Review 86:Could have a few more facilities in the room - i.e. face cloths, need more than 1 small sachet of soap and 1 small sachet of hair shampoo. Hairdryer would be useful for the ladies.

Review 87:The lovely rural location and views.

Review 88:Nothing in this section

Review 89:We liked the location, the charming host, the excellent cuisineincluding the more than adequate breakfast. We liked the room and theviews from the french windows. The beds were comfortable and everywherewas very clean.

Review 90:When you drive alone there is no passenger to read out the directions. My plea is that a decent road map is provided to show the exact route to the hotel - not just in words.

Review 91:The staff were very friendly and helpful. Good sized bedroom with en-suite. Comfortable bed and good views across the valley

Review 92:Approach road looks uninviting at first sight, (narrow and quite steeply sloping), but in fact, proved to be no problem.

Review 93:Lovely welcome from the owners, who were charming and helpful throughout. Nice, good sized, simply furnished room, with patio area looking over a very pretty garden, and surrounding countryside beyond. Informal dining room, with limited but tasty menu, and some good wines. Handy for Nerja caves, and various delightful hill villages, and the Tejida conservation area.

Review 94:The food in the hotel, but more important, as well as in the restaurants in the surrounding area.

Review 95:Very friendly owner, spacious room, location halfway Malaga and Granada. Beautiful surroundings.

Review 96:the room was cold (it was April) and no way to heat it up. open carton of orange juice next to the juicer in kitchen,

Review 97:the location and the views nice breakfast, freshly squeezed juice...

Review 98:There was nothing to dislike. Just be prepared that it is a rural hotel and the track to it is a bit rough and rather narrow. The A402 is a good road and is only 300 metres away. The village of Alcaucin is nearby.

Review 99:We were looking for a country hotel over Easter and we were pleasantly surprised with this hotel. The room was large with both AC and heating, the bathroom had a sunken bath (very comfortable for those not very mobile). The breakfast was good and plentiful. The room had a little balcony with a beautiful view of the mountains and villages of the Axarquia. We dined at the hotel and the food was fresh, homemade and wholesome. The staff were great and th guy was very knowledgeable about all aspects of the region and was a pleasure to talk to.

Review 100:The size of the hotelname at the entrance to the property is very smalland easily missed when you approach the hotel on a bumpy road at night.Apart from being small it is faded as well. Once you missed the sign andneed to return on that road the entrance road to the hotel is not soeasy to find.

Review 101:Alphonso was extremely helpful and gave us some wonderful tips on thearea. The breakfast at Rural Cortijo de Salia was the best we had inAndalucia. Fresh squeezed oranges and delicious breads. Rooms with awonderful view.

Review 102:The signage to the hotel could be improved

Review 103:Nothing was too much trouble, it was such a comfortable hotel! The family that ran it couldn't have been nicer, food was excellent. A hidden treasure! We will go back

Review 104:The turning into the hotel from the main road is quite sharp and steepand the sign for the hotel is rather small but this is not uncommon forrural hotels and guesthouses - a small price to pay for "gettingaway from it all". No English tv channels but this again seemsnormal in most Spanish hotels (even the large ones). If I was beingreally fussy I could say that the hot water takes quite a while to reachthe taps but just read a few pages of your book and all will be fine.

Review 105:Lovely position with very pretty views of surrounding mountains. Wellkept grounds with seating areas and nice swimming pool. The rooms are agood size and very clean. Our bed was also extremely comfortable.Theowner Alfonso is charming and very helpful. Very good value for money.Would recommend more for couples than families.

Review 106:El acceso es complicado y algo peligroso.

Review 107:Los propietarios y el buen gusto con que estaban decoradas las habitaciones para el tipo de alojamiento. Las vista también nos sorprendieron, en definitiva muy recomendable.

Review 108:the noise of dogs barking all night in the valley, the very steep driveway down to the hotel

Review 109:good location, lovely views from the room, quiet and relaxed rural setting, interesting hotel, nice bread and breakfast, nice freshly squeezed orange juice, nice coffee, comfortable bed, nice and clean, nice friendly owners

Review 110:Even though it seems there is quite a lot to see and do in the direct surrounding (there's a big lake, a nature reserve, some 'white villages', and a ruin of an ancient castle within a stone's throw), it takes some effort to find out where to go for certain activities. for example, driving up to Cortijo de Salia there is a signpost to the natural park, but we did not manage to find a place to park the car and have a (signposted) walk or any other type of visitor information. Your hosts will probably be able to tell you all about the possibilities, so if you are visiting the place, do not hesitate to ask them!

Review 111:The staff (it is a family business) is very welcomming, and look well after their guests. The hotel has a very tranquil atmosphere, so it is the perfect place to unwind. the views from the swimming pool (area) are gorgeous and the restaurant is very good (especially the selection of delicious and affordable wines). It is a great place to start your exploration of Andalucia and wind down from busy everyday life.

Review 112:Twisting road to get to the hotel with a very steep narrow approach and driveway.

Review 113:Beautiful little Spanish-style hotel set up in the mountains with fantastic views. Lovely quiet friendly staff who were welcoming but not intrussive. Quaint very clean rooms with the added bonus of a little verrandah looking out over the valley.

Review 114:The hotel is situated on a mountain with a spectaculair view. It has a beautiful big garden, good rooms with airco and a big swimming pool. The owner Alfonso makes sure that al his guests have a great time. He prepares your breakfast every morning with fresh orange jus and toasted bread. In the evening you can have a good dinner in the restaurant. The rooms get cleaned every day and are always dust free and clean. If you thinking about going to Andalusia and want to be close to Malaga, this is the place to stay. Great for singles, couples and families with kids. We had a great time here!

Review 115:The road to get there is a bit narrow and bumpy! Worth it when you arrive though!

Review 116:We received a lovely welcome and were thrilled with the accommodation. The rooms are independent of the main house so you don't feel like you are disturbing other people when you come and go in the night. Scrummy breakfast with amazing fresh orange juice!

Review 117:We chose this hotel as somewhere fairly close to Málaga airport. It was a delight - the room has a view over the valley and the non-chlorinated pool was perfect to dip into in the near 30C temperatures of mid-May. The garden was just the place to relax in - quiet (except for the frogs that occasionally slip into the pool) and shaded by palms. We left to the sound of fireworks celebrating St. Isidore, patron of farmers, peasants, day labourers, and rural communities from the beautiful nearby village of Alcaucin.
