Reviews for Hotel Schloss Hornberg
Review 1:The online reservation reflected a price $112 for two people in the deluxe room; unable to select four people. The actual price at checkout was 148 Euros to include the children. It would have been nice to know the total cost upfront.
Review 2:Very courteous staff and a comfortable atmosphere. The hotel sits at the top of the hillside and affords a beautiful view of the valley below. The castle ruins are small but fun to explore. The breakfast buffet was good, clean and well attended to by the staff. The hotel was a short drive to Triberg to visit the waterfall and other areas.
Review 3:A bit spartan in the rooms, but great value.
Review 4:The palace and castle are great. The whole town is based around the hillside castle/palace, don't stay somewhere else as you will have to walk up to the castle anyway. Great base for the central black forest.
Review 5:No elevator! Breakfast was good but I expected more from a beautiful place like this. Perhaps scrambled eggs sausage, a selection including liver wurst and salmon.
Review 6:Loved the property, everybody was friendly and staff great.
Review 7:The signposting to the hotel was terrible. The first signpost we saw on entering the town directed us to a road with a no-entry sign. You have to go through the town and go up to the top of the hill through the houses - there were a lot of other people also stuck at the no-entry sign!
Review 8:A very nice hotel in an excellent location. The food in the restaurant was very good. The room was big and we were provided with a good sized cot for our toddler.
Review 9:We loved being able to hear the wind in the trees at night. Our stay was relaxing and quiet- perfect for getting away from a noisy city. We loved the beer garden and that our son could run around and play on the toys.
Review 10:View is beautiful. Hornberg is a beautiful city. 10 mins to Gutach which is also a very beautiful city. Room & toilet is large. Next to castle.
Review 11:There is really nothing to put here. I might just expect a better breakfast for the next visit!
Review 12:The hotel is at the top of the hill overseeing the region. If you wanna go up on your feet, there is a stair-way starting right beside Hotel Adler in the main street of the town. It takes 10 minutes with slow pace to get up to the hill's top.
Review 13:The location was stunningly beautiful, the quaint medieval town below was really neat, and the castle was so unique! Just loved the dense forest surroundings. Also loved the dog:)
Review 14:The staff were particularly helpful, even though they were also dealing with a tourbus full of people (a tour which we were not a part of) -- they still took time to make sure everything was to our satisfaction. The rooms were clean and large, yet cozy, the beds were very comfortable. The breakfast was large and quite tasty. Magnificent views from the dining room -- and a lovely park with a playground just a few steps away.
Review 15:As I arrived after sunset it wasn't easy to find the hotel entrance. Even though the building is beautiful, the room is quite simple, with sheets shorter the the size of the bed. The following day , as the city was fixing the road in front of the hotel, I had to drive off road for about 40 minutes around the mountain to manage to get back to the road.
Review 16:The staff is very friendly and helpful. If it wasn't for them, I could never find the way to leave the hotel, as the road was being fixed. The view from the hotel is gorgeous.
Review 17:is nothing that wrong
Review 18:the position and the castle and the nice staff we were there already in 1997 so we are clients that comeback in a place where we had good time
Review 19:It was a prefect stay for us travelling through the Black Forrest, the views were beautiful. The staff were very helpful and we felt welcomed as soon as we checked in. I would highly recommend this hotel.
Review 20:Great location with spectacular views unfortunately we were only there one night and it was raining so we could not do the walks around the area. Beautifu meal with great views would recommend you stay here.
Review 21:The location of the hotel was excellent. We were there to strictly relax and enjoy a few days away from home. The breakfast was plentiful and tasty. The mattress on the bed was comfortable. The views from the hotel grounds were beautiful. I would definitely go back.
Review 22:It is close to Triberg. The hotel room is clean, large and comfortable. Dinner in its restaurant is not expensive and nice.
Review 23:Uncomfortably soft bed and pillow.
Review 24:Lovely location, good breakfast. Late arrival was accommodated with no problems. Big comfortable room.
Review 25:My husbands mom would have liked an elevator, she finds stairs difficult.
Review 26:Gorgeous view!! Wonderful meal!

Review 31:Place and quite
Review 32:Very friendly and helpful staff, great restaurant (the kitchen is open until 22:00!)
Review 33:Restaurant was fabulous for dinner. The Black Forest Cake is a MUST for dessert. Lovely spread for breakfast. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others. Gorgeous views!
Review 34:location, flair, restaurant, staff, view, beer garden - all really good! if you want to stay in a quite place in the black forest - this is it. Just 60 minutes away from Freiburg, Strassbourg, etc the location is outstanding. The hotel is charming, the views wonderful, the castle around is fun. The restaurant offers local cuisine with great flavors and nice presentation. The staff's friendliness and helpfulness is second to none - very accommodating and helpful.
Review 35:Great location and history very interesting, entertaining host and very good but reasonably priced restaurant. Large double corner room selected was fine.
Review 36:The motel needs a little bit of an upgrade plus the rooms need soundproofing.
Review 37:The food presented for breakfast and for dinner was of a very good standard. The staff were welcoming and helpful. The room was ok except the walls are not soundproofed and our neighbours were noisy.
Review 38:The most common complaint that we heard and agree was the lack of an elevator. While the staff tried to accommodate you, they cannot carry you up and down the stairs
Review 39:Breakfast was great. Room was large and clean.
Review 40:Nothing
Review 41:This hotel is in a lovely location with great surroundings with wonderful views. The staff are superbly trained and very friendly and helpful. The restaurant is excellent.
Review 42:We didn't end up staying at this hotel because despite the fact that we had a confirmed reservation through Booking.com for two rooms, they had only reserved one. The woman at the front desk was not friendly and not helpful. She had no solution for us except to say we only had one room. When we asked if she could recommend another hotel, she did so but wouldn't have if we had not asked. There was a wedding reception being held at the hotel and all the parking spaces were taken up by the wedding guests. We were told to park in the lower lot and walk (with suitcases) up a 200 meter hill. We elected not to do this but drove up to the front of the hotel. Since we had to leave anyway, it was good we hadn't walked up the hill but there were so many cars, it was also difficult to turn the car around. I would not even attempt to book at this hotel again. Total lack of customer service!
Review 43:This was a surprise. It is a wonderful old grand hotel built on the site of a ruined castle, with mediaeval tower and dungeons still there. The room we had looked over the village, typical of the the Black Forest. It is a little out of town, and way up on a hill, but that gave lovely views. They offer breakfast and dinner, both of which were great. A walk around the ruins was fun. Ask the owner to show you what's under the hotel.
Review 44:All good
Review 45:The facilities were outstanding, we were a group friends in a wedding and we really enjoy the service, the food, the breakfast, the castle, the view
Review 46:No lift though staff happy to help with luggage. Rooms can get hot in summer weather.
Review 47:Beautiful place, lovely rooms, friendly staff. Lovely ruins of tower and beautiful gardens.
Review 48:We did not know it was under renovation, I was hoping to leave my wife there, that she would enjoy a view and sit on the sun deck looking at the country side. Not possible with renovation, which was a surprise when we checked in. WiFi was not very dependable.
Review 49:Dining Room
