Reviews for Silken Ciudad Gijón
Review 1:The hotel is a little out of the town centre. One small issue was that our apparently non-smoking room smelt like stale smoke. We also found the room very stuffy and the only way to moderate the temperature was to keep the window open overnight, which was a bit noisy.
Review 2:The staff were very helpful.
Review 3:The hotel had the most uncomfortable, hard and saggy beds ever. This made our two night stay very uncomfortable. The curtains and carpets were dirty. The shower was weak. The parking expensive at 9 euros a day, and only declared if you phoned the hotel. We changed our superior room, no 518 three times, first because there was a bad smell in the room of cigarettes and vomit, the second superior room had the most uncomfortable mattress and we got no rest, and the third, 519, was smaller than the other two rooms and still the mattress was uncomfortable. The hotel was good enough to compensate us by not charging us for parking. This hotel could be wonderful, but is let down by careless housekeeping and poor upkeep in general. We would not return, or recommend because of this.
Review 4:Breakfast was good. Though the breakfast room was in a room with no windows, which I found unpleasant. Staff professional and helpful. Free tea coffee in the lounge upstairs. Kettle and coffee available in room.
Review 5:The arrival was not very nice though polite, had to ask instead of been informed. The coffee was horrible at breakfast. Not provision for vegetarians.
Review 6:The room was clean and comfortable.
Review 7:Uncomfortable twin bed, lumpy.
Review 8:Within walking distance, all level, of beach and old town. Plenty of restaurants nearby.Excellent, quiet, room and clean bathroom, and ocean view from third floor. Sumptious breakfast spread. Parking under hotel was convenient.
Review 9:I spent 30 minutes calling the room service and nobody replied. We ended up going downstairs to ask for hungers. Poor customer service.
Review 10:The room was clean and the hotel has easy access to both the highway and the city centre.
Review 11:Did not find the pillow comfortable Stayed in a double bed and did not like the 1 pillow for both of us This used to be called a bolster pillow in bygone yrs. I think individual pillows would be best
Review 12:Location was not good. Television did not work. Restaurant was closed and cafeteria was extremely poor and clinical.
Review 13:Beds and room generally a high standard.
Review 14:Nothing to note.
Review 15:Huge room, very nice. As rarely happens, room was very nearly pitch black with their blackout curtains. Loved that! Bathtub jacuzzi... great!
Review 16:Matress was a bit hard. No shower curtain, just a very narrow glass pane on the bathtub, so prepare to have the bathroom under water when taking a shower. Equipment in the gym is outdated and some need repair.
Review 17:Nice breakfast buffet. Located not far from the centre. Hotel own garage to park car.
Review 18:Spa was cold and you need to pay for towels - seems rich given the cost. Also much less glamorous than the pictures as it is in a basement.
Review 19:Great location and easy parking around the area or in the public outdoor area (but need to get a ticket). Gym area was large but had limited facilities.
Review 20:The restaurant looked a little like a canteen (although I cannot say what the food was like as we didn't eat there) The breakfast room had no windows.
Review 21:The friendly staff were extremely helpful
Review 22:Bueno, por decir algo, no deberían dejar entrar a los niños al SPA... deja de ser un SPA y se convierte en una especie de piscina de bolas...
Review 23:Zona tranquila pero muy cerca andando del centro.
Review 24:located in a quiet area near the railway station, but could be a advantage fro some.
Review 25:Nice room,breakfast,bar,safeparking,10min walk to centre shops and sights.
Review 26:- In the final, it is expensive go to the pool or spa, despite it's free. You have to pay "complements". It should be noticed when talking about the spa. - Breakfast is expensive with a poor variety.
Review 27:A good hotel.
Review 28:- Bed was´t as good as other´s Silken hotels I have been and others hotels with the same category. - The shower had a little problem. We asked for fixing it at the reception and it was´t the same when we returned in the afternoon. - The lights made a strong noise after using them and when we called at the reception they directly said: it is because of the hot against the glass bulbs. So it seems they know they have a problem and they don´t fix it? We had almost a heart attack when we heard that after sleeping. - The lamp beside was broken but it seems they tried to fix it with glue so when the table was moved, it fell down in two pieces as if it was a puzzle.
Review 29:Unfortunately the Hotel restaurant wasn't open (late February) but the recommendation of restaurant 30 m away was excellent.
Review 30:Easy to find. Secure parking offered. Extremely friendly staff all round. Service excellent and good prices for drinks.
Review 31:Bed was really hard not to my liking, wifi was terrible it kept on logging off and I kept having to enter password etc,
Review 32:Staff very good , cafeteria good ,location was good and a easy walk to the old town ,plenty of restaurants and cafes nearby. They had a car park but I managed to park outside. The spa was not very good the saunas are separate in the changing rooms so we had to go separately also the pool/ spa was on a separate level and not very warm.
Review 33:Many of the staff in suits (perhaps senior level staff) made very little effort to be friendly or accommodating. At times I stood at reception whilst they ignored me. Maybe this is a standard policy with all customers? However I got the impression that they were looking at me with a degree of snobbery, perhaps because of my attire. If this was the case I am puzzled as to why? I paid upfront with my own money. This was not the case with all staff wearing suits, just most of them. The razor provided gratis was cheap and cut my face several times. Sometimes the television reception was poor and some channels were un-watchable.
Review 34:The Ladies on Reception were all very polite, warm and friendly. The same was true of the cleaners and maintenance staff. The gymnasium, sauna and spa were excellent. In particular the Jacuzzi which was very relaxing. These are factors which would definitely make me consider staying at the hotel the next time I am in Gijon. The option of secure parking was very much appreciated. The decor of the entire hotel was excellent, when I first saw my room I was delighted with the high standard and space it provided.
Review 35:The pool was really tiny and not open that long, if you get it to yourself though it and the hot tub are lovely.
Review 36:Lovely hotel, clean with nice friendly staff. Close to everything. Not much English spoken but we got around that , eat breakfast at bar and not in restaurant it was expensive.
Review 37:Charged 70 euro for 1 bag of washing.... They didn't makes pay, but was shocked they charged this without consulting us the price. Check before you wash! Restaurant staff not very friendly or clearly like their job.
Review 38:It was a great location, we were staying 2 days... Close to the train station, and beach. We hired bikes which was a lot of fun through the town. Lovely front desk staff. A little overpriced but a clean, modern and comfortable short stay.
Review 39:Can't see the ocean. Spa watertoocold. No hot room just warm.
Review 40:It's right next to the train station.
Review 41:Dirty curtains. Suspect shower
Review 42:Nice comfortable bed

Review 83:Drinks/food waiter was rude and arrogant.
Review 84:Location and value for money.
Review 85:Perfect for our tour of Spain and only 1 hour from Santander.
Review 86:modern,clean, spacious
Review 87:El colchón era durísimo.
Review 88:Todo limpio y cómodo la cama!
Review 89:Difficult to find. Car parking a bit of a bind.
Review 90:Modern, clean. Helpful staff. Good food.
Review 91:Not particularly convenient for the centre or the main beach.
Review 92:Located very close to the railway station which had frequent low cost connections for day trips. There is a choice of good local restaurants. The parking is an advantage over more centrally located hotels.
Review 93:We stayed here on our trip to the UK on the 1st May 2014 and was absolutely satisfied. We booked again for our return to Spain on the 14th May. We received an SMS on the 12th May to tell us the LD lines ferry had broken down. It was impossible to reach Gijon for our booking. We notified the hotel via booking.com immediately but they refused to cancel our booking or even to defer it one night. This is the most mean spirited action I have ever received from any hotel I have ever used. I will never use this company again.
Review 94:Our stay on the 1st May was very satisfactory but we will never use this company again for the reasons given in the 'didn't like' box
Review 95:I like a firm mattress but the bed was way too firm. It felt like I was sleeping on a piece of wood. It was difficult to sleep through the night, and both my husband and my backs hurt the following days. Wi-fi was free but every time we tried to log on it stated that the maxium amount of people allowed on the network was at capacity. We were never able to use it.
Review 96:The size of the room was nice and the bathroom was awesome, really big and very comfortable.
Review 97:There only ever seemed to be one person on the front desk and they didn't seem to mind a long queue building up.
Review 98:Very handy for the station and not too far to walk into town and to the beaches. Decent room and nice bathroom with bath. Lots of TV channels, including Fox for those who like a bit of God-fearing US commentary. Good choice of food at breakfast. Strong wifi connection. I would recommend this as a good base when in Gijon.
Review 99:Room was nice. Parking was excellent underneath the hotel for 9€ per night. Only a short walk down Av. Portugal to main shopping streets. Easy to find, as not in narrow one way city centre streets.
Review 100:WiFi in room was a bit intermittent
Review 101:Nice, modern hotel with helpful staff Nice sized, well appointed and well lit room (both natural and by lights) and huge, well lit bathroom with good shower over bath Swimming pool and spa Proximity to station (about 100 metres) and walking distance to town and beach Free safe in room
Review 102:The new year´s party till the early hours in the cellar was hearable on the 5th floor because the guests were smoking outside the front of the hotel.
Review 103:Nice hotel for business. Center of town is on walking distance if you don´t mind walking. Rooms are clean and tidy.
Review 104:Swimming pool quite small. Insufficient staff in the evening creating a big queue.
Review 105:Very friendly and helpful staff. Perfect location in front of the train station and a short walk away from the beach and the old town. Good breakfast.
Review 106:Really good value for Money, this Hotel is great! Very recomendable! Breakfast is perfect, big variety and very fresh. I dont recomend to pay 12 EUR for parking, because there are plenty of parking places around the Hotel which are free.
Review 107:A/C shuts off when you leave and room is hot when you return at the end of the day. Takes a while to cool down. A bit far from center of city.
Review 108:comfrotable room. Bed was comfortable good shower Breakfast was good but not too much variation day to day.
Review 109:It took an age to check in, all rooms where booked in one name yet theywanted passports and home address for each in the party . Thisimformation was then typed in slowly so it took about half an hour tocheck in. They tried to tell us this was normal, but we have never hadthis problem before
Review 110:- the sauna, swimming pool etc. open at 9 am, too late to use in the morning before breakfast - lockers do not work in the ladies dressing room for sauna and pool. - the pool area does not feel private, as fully dressed people can walk in from the parking garage
Review 111:- friendly, helpful, staff - comfortable room and bathroom - great breakfast! - coffee and cakes provided in afternoon - safe parking garage - sauna and whirlpool
Review 112:They were very sneaky on the price of parking. Would have been better to have been informed.
Review 113:Very helpful, great breakfast. Most people were super friendly.
Review 114:Pool opening hours. I like a swim before my breakfast. Weather in Gijon;
Review 115:Lovely rooms .small but big enough. lounge areas on each floor was a great idea for us as we were two couples and it gave us somewhere to sit and chat without intruding on each others bedrooms
Review 116:Pool is very small and very cold.
Review 117:Good location, not quite in the 'thick of things' but short stroll to the city centre. Very nice bar/Cafe just behind the hotel which was a much better option for breakfast than the very expensive breakfast option in th hotel. Very clean and comfortable hotel. Bar food was tasty and reasonably priced
Review 118:Location was poor for me unless you travel by train since the station is close. Scarce breakfast.
Review 119:Good quality for the price paid. I was upgraded due to some problems with the reservation system. Efficient staff.
Review 120:They are charging me three times the room rate: once with my bankaccount, twice for my Diners. They claimed it did not work, butobviously it did. Staff seems incompetent to me.
Review 121:Clean with good location
Review 122:The rain! Paying for parking seemed a bit unnecessary.
Review 123:The rooms and the bathrooms were spacious. The staff helpful. Wellituated to walk into town or the beach.
Review 124:Mattress was very hard and could only link 1 device to wifi.
Review 125:Breakfast good choice of food and staff very friendly. Rooms large and well equipped.
Review 126:For a 4 star hotel i would expect tea and coffee facilities in the room
Review 127:Staff were very friendly and helpful,
Review 128:Fantastic spacious room. Superb bathroom. Tea making facility in room. Friendly, helpful staff. All in all an excellent experience
