Reviews for Parador de Gijón

Review 1:The accommodation & service. The adjacent park & wildlife. A pleasant 30 minute along the beachfront to the old town. Very varied menu of local dishes.

Review 2:When I go to a Parador I expect something exceptional. Here there was nothing. As an average 3 star hotel it is fine. As a parador it is disappointing. An ordinary building with a low standard of cleanliness and clear signs of lack of care (rails in cupboards and bathrooms broken). A barn of a dining room with absolutely no atmosphere. The staff in the dining room and the bar were exceedingly polite and totally unfriendly. A very poor example of a Parador and one which damages the brand. If this were the first one I had stayed in I would not use a Parador again.

Review 3:Location. On the edge of a park, close to the sea front. Reception staff were friendly.

Review 4:Nothing

Review 5:This is one of the best and friendliest hotels we have ever stayed in. Certainly the nicest Parador, Staff were very welcoming and it was a pleasure to stay there.

Review 6:building works right outside meant it was noisy during the day

Review 7:this stylish hotel is perfect for a romantic getaway; a historic building, beautifully furnished and hung with original art; good quality linens and pillows and a very comfortable bed; our room had a balcony looking out onto a verdant courtyard with running water; located on the edge of the stunning Isabel la Catolica park which is teeming with wildlife, and very close to San Lorenzo beach. Highly recommended!

Review 8:Overpriced. I think the parador hotels are resting on their laurels and relying on the fact that they are government subsidies.

Review 9:Good parking. Pleasant enough building. Good breakfast

Review 10:Having stayed in other paradors this was a little disappointing. Not ascharming or atmospheric. We were put in room 101 - overlooking the carpark but also right on ground level with the entrance. We heard guestsarriving and leaving at all hours and we couldn't open our windowfor a breeze because people would see in! No way to open window and havecurtains drawn. Felt a little unsafe leaving things in room with windowopen as directly on ground floor. I suppose you have to book a park viewroom but felt the price for the non- view room is very steep for such abasic dingy and dated room.

Review 11:The staff were lovely, from the cleaners to the breakfast waitress tothe front desk. The breakfast was plentiful and served until 11am, andof a good standard. The parador is next to a nice park and a 10 minutewalk through this takes you to the beach. It is far away from the oldtown. Our taxi to the train station was around 12 euros.

Review 12:The restaurant menu was the same on both nights of our stay.

Review 13:A good location close to the park, town beach and the city centre, The breakfast and restaurant food were the usual good standard for a Parador, we found our room on the first floor comfortable and quite for a good nights sleep

Review 14:Stewed coffee in the restaurant in a town where the cafes offer great coffee.

Review 15:nothing

Review 16:great location - very relaxing

Review 17:The facility

Review 18:The restaurant

Review 19:I think the beds need updating of the mattress and linens.

Review 20:Staff and location are lovely!

Review 21:Location we stayed 3 nights 1 would have been enough

Review 22:The hotel was lovely

Review 23:The parador was lovely, the surrounding gardens, free car parking on site

Review 24:It is getting a bit old and signs of need of renovation

Review 25:This location it is very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was definitely worth paying for

Review 26:Lovely hotel, staff friendly, food not to our taste, there was nothing we ate that was good.

Review 27:Nothing.

Review 28:The best. Incredible restaulrant. Great service. Great location .great value.

Review 29:The staff were generally very efficient and the hotel was clean and comfortable.

Review 30:Car parking a problem. Very few spaces.

Review 31:A comfortable room with good facilities.

Review 32:Rooms needed modernising. Too expensive.

Review 33:Location. General ambience.

Review 34:Small car park though did find a space. Public parking available nearby. Can hear guests next door!

Review 35:Bedroom was large and comfortable. Twin basins, toilet and bidet, bath with shower screen. Restaurant on site with good food.

Review 36:The service in the restaurant was slow, waited for a coffee about 10 minutes to receive it. That was early in the evening.

Review 37:Nice hotel. Very clean and quite. The breakfast was good.

Review 38:A little too far from town centre. Poor choice of food. No roomfacilities for tea/coffee. Expensive breakfast.

Review 39:Clean and comfortable. Converted old mill gives it character.

Review 40:Beach BUSY, like Bondi on Sunday - a 15 minute walk away from Parador, since no chance of parking there. Parador parking limited, although plenty of free space on road outside

Review 41:Unique,huge park with lakes, walks and birds, from black-swans to ostriches, right behind the parador. Staff spoke English and all was to the usual Parador standards. Parador gardens were full of peacocks - but not noisy.

Review 42:The welcome from the staff - someone came out to the car to take our luggage. The location on the edge of the park was fantastic and the proximity to the beach and shops was great. Breakfast was a great spread and the evening meal choices were very good.

Review 43:The room smelt of sewage. I did not think it was any better than an average 3 star hotel in terms of facilities, historical interest and location. I think the bacon in the breakfast room had been left keeping warm for too long. My husband ate two pieces and about 7 or 8 hours later had violent stomach pains followed by diarrhoea which lasted for 4 days.

Review 44:Helpful staff.

Review 45:Dining room disappointing because of coach parties staying in the hotel both nights, making the ding room appear like a canteen. This was to the detriment of the remaining guests. This occurred during a stay last year at the Fuente De.

Review 46:not enough double beds - or at least none available despite our request in advance and on arrival. not very easy to locate.

Review 47:god breakfast and nice staff

Review 48:Hotel seems a bit old and not anything special, even though it is aparador and I expected it to be a bit nicer.

Review 49:Friendly, helpful staff. Nice buffet breakfast. Within walking distanceto large park and beach.

Review 50:Over priced and staff were a little sour faced Breakfast was average andthe coffee machine was not working at the time we ate

Review 51:Settings and surroundings were very central and easy access toGijon town

Review 52:Buffet breakfast seems very expensive but we didn't take it, lovely cafe across the road with a very friendly staff

Review 53:Staff extremely nice, bathroom spotless and huge, very comfortable beds. Right beside a lovely park with many various and exotic birds, a playground, a garden and several open areas to sunbathe

Review 54:The price of breakfast in Paradors always seems rather high - but the local pastellerias were amazing and within a short stroll of the hotel.

Review 55:SHOES!!!! Gijon is a real treat for all those Imelda Marcos' out there! This Parador is an unpretentious, really comfortable and welcoming hotel. The location, in a park on the edge of a very attractive resort, offers tranquility and good hospitality for all ages - very traditional ambience but charming. Children also seemed very welcome and the location is perfect for families. On site parking no problem but do use a good route finder as the one way system in the town could be problematic!

Review 56:Its position in a lovely park close to the beach. Staff all extremelyfriendly and helpful. Excellent breakfasts. Excellent value for moneyfor those over 55. It is very quiet and restful. There is a free carparkwhich was extremely useful. It was slightly out of town but there was aregular bus service into the centre.

Review 57:The hotel is ideally located in Gijon, close to a park and less than 10 mins walk to the sea. There is on site free parking and the hotel was easy to find and easy to return to the autovia when leaving the city. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was comfortable and spacious and there are good seating areas around the Parador. There is free wi-fi in the public areas but not in the rooms.

Review 58:Quiet location in a busy city

Review 59:Entrance difficult to find

Review 60:Staff very pleasant. Nice room. Hotel next to lovely park

Review 61:older parador, not at the level of most of them

Review 62:conform expectations, nothing special

Review 63:Thought the breakfast was expensive

Review 64:Comfortable rooms and good location

Review 65:same menue for lunch and dinner

Review 66:location ,staff and comfort
