Reviews for Altfraenkische Weinstube
Review 1:The hotel is very well situated and we could walk everywhere. The staff was friendly and helpful. Loved the hotel and town and will most definitely go back.
Review 2:They would not accept my credit card. Said it wouldn't imprint. Nobody in 2015 imprints a credit card and Europe has been using pin and chip cards for years. Said they do not have that kind of machine. Ya right!!. Do I sense a scam here demanding cash on checkout? Staff is unfriendly and it seems that I was not welcome. I would not waste my time here, there are many more places that are more appreciative of my business and money for the price.
Review 3:Breakfast was very good. Room was small but clean.
Review 4:this is a very homey setting, like entering a hobbit's burrow! The food was fantastic for dinner! We highly endorse this place, just ask for not the smallest room. Very reasonable, so slurge for a bigger room than minimum.
Review 5:Charged us more than the booking.com guaranteed price we locked in
Review 6:Very cosy, comfortable rooms. Hotel had lots of character. The food at their restaurant was delicious, traditional Franconian.
Review 7:Great location, comfort, atmosphere and food. The owner was welcoming and friendly. The room was picture perfect and was very comfortable very relaxing and cosy. I would always pick this for my stay in Rothenburg. The location was also most excellent.
Review 8:This is exactly what you see and read online. We had a lovely room and the staff are excellent. We were there on a Wednesday so we enjoyed partaking in the english conversation club with the locals. Our meal was fantastic and so far the best on our vacation. The building is at least 500 years old so if you like the charm of older building, you will appreciate this place.
Review 9:The hotel was smsll, only 8 rooms and located in a small street away from the crowds. We were lucky enough to be able to sit at the English Conversation club table . A great opportunity to meet some of the locals as well as guests from other countries. Owner and chef really friendly and helpful. Food was great
Review 10:Great location within the walled city. Listed as no parking but I emailed them, and a garage was offered by them for my motorbike/sidecar, 8 euro. Tradition old hotel and atmosphere, ample breakfast.
Review 11:Room really stank as obviously above the kitchen. That meant a very bad sleep, clothes & bags smelt very strongly of the kitchen/fried food the next day.
Review 12:Location & the size of the Room. Very clean room too, just let down by the noise of the bar & people sitting outside and the awful smell in the room.
Review 13:When we arrived at 15:00, no one was there to check us in, and we called the number on the sign, but no one answered. We had to wait about 30 minutes, which was ok, but not ideal. We were also overcharged in the morning, but after 10 minutes of discussion with the staff, they corrected their error, and apologized.
Review 14:This is the place to stay in Rothenburg-- what a gem of a find! Rooms are beautiful, location is away from the noise, WiFi works well in the rooms, and breakfast is plentiful.
Review 15:Cozy, charming facility, older building with low dark beamed ceilings, our room the Bauern Stube was very nicely decorated with an awesome bathroom. Very comfortable. Great restaurant too!
Review 16:We were made very welcome from the moment we arrived very clean comfy room excellent food helpful owner close to all attractions. Would highly recommend staying here if you are looking to stay in an authentic rothenburg accommodation
Review 17:The free wifi was very slow.
Review 18:Great location - very short walk to the main square, but enough out of the way so it wasn't crowded. Also close to the main parking lot just outside the old city. Comfortably furnished, including a comfy bed. Large bathroom (especially by european standards). Friendly, accommodating staff understands English, speaks it ok. Breakfast was good - cold cuts, fruit, bread, eggs, juice, hot drinks. We didn't have other meals at tge restaurant, so can't speak to that. We womuld definitely stay here again.
Review 19:Nothing
Review 20:Location was great. Hotel was quirky, room comfortable and good breakfast. Restaurant closed on arrival but no problem and many great places in the lovely town
Review 21:Only one minus - the promised parking didn't exist. Fully occupied as part of the preparation of some festival the coming days.
Review 22:Centrally location. Very nice room. Great breakfast.
Review 23:When I booked the room, it was based on the assumption that I could park my car by the Hotel for free. I had to park my car in the parking lot outside the wall and pay extra to park in the lot. This information needs to change when booking the room.
Review 24:I did like our room and it was big for European standards. The breakfast was very good and the location, just inside the wall was also very good.
Review 25:the wine bar downstairs had customers sitting directly under our windows talking loudly til the wee hours. Smoke came into our room more than once. Did not sleep well due to noice, should be more considerate of sleeping guests, at least after 10pm
Review 26:location was great, rooms were pretty, beds comfortable
Review 27:Narrow stairs
Review 28:Love it here! Rooms are clean, breakfast is fantastic, fabulous location, dinner is wonderful and our host was the best! Also Herman the German makes you feel welcome!!!
Review 29:Hotel owner is friendly and good place for parking a car. small hotel but good service. Wifi speed is slow but city free wifi is good enough. we can catch it in room.
Review 30:Like no place we have ever stayed before! We really enjoyed the Wednesday night English Speaking Club that mingled with us all at dinner. We were sorry we only booked one night there.
Review 31:no shower room (bathtub instead)..
Review 32:Nice environment, good service, felt like family, tasty breakfast, very special and unforgettable decoration, free Wifi
Review 33:Since I am extremely allergic to dust mites etc, the amount of decoration was difficult for me. There is no way one can keep this environment dust free. After 2 nights in this facility, I began coughing.
Review 34:The old building is very charming and well kept up. Old world Germany is depicted in this structure.
Review 35:I got the impression the personnel was not very happy to see me there, maybe just reserved people or maybe it was a busy day for them. The blanket was very hot!
Review 36:The design of the room was very nice and authentic. The bathroom was very big
Review 37:Very comfortable beddings. Quite room. Great location. The candlelight dinner near a romantic fireplace definitely worth trying! The Pork loin border with mushroom cream, cranberry and homemade noodle is amazing!
Review 38:There is no reception. You need to phone member of staff to come in for check in. Free wifi didnt work in the rooms, its only working downstairs dinner area
Review 39:Location, room decor
Review 40:We really liked the character or the place, the room was very nice and they have a lovely traditional restaurant on the ground floor where the breakfast was served. The breakfast was great.
Review 41:Perfect hotel to start feeling like you are in the medievel town you are in. Situated in the old city section and perfect stroll to Christmas markets and church. Bathroo,s were quite modern with jacuzzi tub.
Review 42:There was nothing I didn't like. It was fantastic!
Review 43:the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel is charming. It is a renovated 700 year old goat barn and is adorable! We ate dinner at the restaurant one night and it was delicious. And the breakfast buffet was great. the location is great because it is on a side street and is quiet however not far from anything. If I return to Rothenberg again I will definitely stay here.
Review 44:Nothing.
Review 45:Very charming inn close to everything. My husband and I stayed here three nights and absolutely loved it. The staff were friendly (I've read some negative reviews about Mario but he was very friendly and helpful to us). We had dinner in the restaurant twice and the food was superb. Service was a little slow as they were packed both nights we were there but well worth the wait. We would definitely stay there again.
Review 46:Wednesday night english speaking club partied way late and we had to be up early for our departure home.
Review 47:Can't get much more old world than this 600 year old building in the quaintest village ever!
Review 48:- No welcome on arrival, all staff ignored us and even looked us in the eye and walked away when we asked them for help! - No help or information regarding parking. FYI P4 outside the city walls is free at night up until 9am the next day; - Although the food quality was excellent, it was completely ruined by the amount of fruit flies. There weren't 2 or 3, there were dozens and they kept landing on our food and in our beer. When I politely asked if we could move tables the extremely rude lady behind the bar said " tut we have them all year" and then walked away. - Although the hotel looks lovely, it is not worth the money. My first evening in Bavaria was certainly ruined because of the rude staff.
Review 49:The hotel it's self it lovely and quaint, a perfect location, a minutes walk from the Marktplatz. Just what a tourist would like to see in a small German town!
Review 50:Room is not so sound-proofing. Someone stayed in a neighbouring room had a fight, and we can even hear what they swared clearly.
Review 51:The whole building is covered with vines and flowers, so beautiful. Staff are quite nice and helpful.
Review 52:The lack of welcome at our arrival, there is no reception and I had to wander upstairs to find someone to check Us in. The whole downstairs is claustrophobicly cluttered ,we had one drink in the bar area and were 'greeted' with 'are you staying here' on answering yes we were allowed to sit. The drink selection was poor and the candles on the tables were the main source of light, not sure whether I found it too dark or whether I was greatful I could see all the stuffed animals hanging off every surface. It wasn't a welcoming area for us at all but could be so beautiful as the building is stunning ! The rating on cleanliness of the bedroom would have been excellent but who knows with downstairs it was always too dark to see. Breakfast just about passed as such, not much laid out or selection - you are in for a treat if you like tinned fruit cocktail though!
Review 53:The Bedroom was stunning and the bathroom was huge with a lovely quirky green suite. The bed was perfect! It was very peaceful and in a fabulous location !
Review 54:Very dark in the dining room- the food on the breakfast layout was hard to see. No shower in our bathroom- but we knew that ahead of time. Huge bathtub was very nice, though.
Review 55:Atmosphere. Beautiful hotel. Excellent beds- the best nights sleep we had on a 12 day trip We booked the Bauern Suite- two room suite. Very romantic!
Review 56:It is like living in a dollhouse.:-) The hotel is clean, quiet, but very close to the city center. Food at the restaurant was good! We enjoyed everything.
Review 57:The owners of the hotel wasn't too friendly, which was kind of disappointing. For this trip, we even learned German so that we could communicate a few in their language, instead of English. But we didn't really get a warm welcome from them as compared to other hotels we stayed. So that was the only negative point.
Review 58:We stayed at #3 room. Had one full size bed and 1 small single bed, which accommodates 3 people at max. All the details of the room and the hotel was very charming, with medieval decoration etc. The price also included breakfast (which doesn't come so often in the states), and breakfast was very good. Definitely good money spent.
Review 59:Having been travelling for a while the amazing traditional luxury we found here was amazing. It was close yo town it had an awesome restaurant and I wish we had stayed longer. Couldn't recommend it more
Review 60:-Lots of steps may be hard on elderly/disabled. -wifi did not work.
Review 61:-interesting decor - great location - fabulous food (definitely get a reservation and eat here).
Review 62:What not to like? The setting, location, ambiance, the staff, the food were all fantastic! We had a most delightful stay and can't wait until our next visit.
Review 63:The only issue I can think of is there isn't much parking... but that's what you will get if you stay inside the wall of a medieval city.
Review 64:The staff were great, the room was fantastic, breakfast was vast. I can't really relate how much we loved staying here.
Review 65:Tall people can hit their heads in some rooms in connecting doorways, etc. It's built to old-school specifications. Our bathroom was however ultra-modern. No air conditioning and limited window opening, so it could get a little warm for some sleepers.
Review 66:Extremely quaint rooms and facilities. The restaurant was great and the location could not be beat by any other place in Rothenburg.
Review 67:We stayed in an upper floor family room and it was very warm in the room, making sleep difficult. The addition of a fan in the rooms would be great!
Review 68:This is a very cozy, well situated hotel with friendly staff, clean rooms, and good food. I would definitely recommend it!
Review 69:decor was a little creepy with dolls scattered around both the guest rooms and the public rooms. Lighting was so low in the sitting room and dining rooms that I couldn't see that the breakfast cereal had chocolate bits in it (and not raisins)
Review 70:Good location, soft bed
Review 71:Nothing!
Review 72:The room had plenty of character and was very clean. You can get dinner downstairs, and it's excellent. Breakfast is great. Location is great. Loved our stay.
Review 73:Parking was not available in the immediate area near the hotel.
Review 74:The Altfrankische Weinstube is located in a 600 year old building in the walled city of Rothenburg and is just a few minutes walk from the city center. Room 1 was roomy and very comfortable. It features a king size bed and separate seating area with an L-shaped sofa and coffee table. The bright and cheery bathroom appears to be recently updated with tile and marble and bold green fixtures. The atmosphere in the Weinstube restaurant is that of a dark and cozy pub with heavy beams and a vast collection of objets d'art and other curiosities everywhere you look. In the morning a well stocked German breakfast buffet is laid out. We enjoyed our stay here very much and recommend it to anyone who enjoys unique properties.
Review 75:We had room 6 which was quite small, as in Hobbit small, and a very small bed, suitable for someone 5'5.
Review 76:Beautiful Inn, Rick Steves recommendation. Excellent food and good beer. Met Herman the German who has English Conversation Club there on Wednesday evenings. Location is close to Market Place but far enough off the path to feel very private.
Review 77:It's originality is what makes this place memorable. The restaurant and bar was very popular with locals which says everything in my opinion.the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. Highly recommended.
Review 78:My husband and I loved this guesthouse. Everything was wonderful, the beds were super comfortable, the bathroom was great, and the location is superb. The breakfast was yummy, a great buffet in their wonderful dining area. It was just super!
Review 79:That we couldn't stay longer!
Review 80:Authentically ancient yet charmingly decorated and up to date in modern comfort. Excellent restaurant that is cozy as a pub and schmeckts gute! Rates make this a real value. Our best night out of 18.
Review 81:Limited breakfast but still very nice.
Review 82:Convenient location in the old city. Comfortable room-great new shower in an old building.
Review 83:Excellent stay, classic hotel.
