Reviews for MEININGER Hotel Hamburg City Center
Review 1:Bad experience, few discrepancies from the booking agreement through Booking.com like the breakfast which was stated to be included and we found otherwise upon arrival and had to pay for it. The upper bed for the kids was not furnished and not changed out daily as per the hotel policy! The beds linen were not changed out daily and left dirty. In general very poor tidy up and housekeeping. It was strange that we had to tidy up our table after the breakfast ourselves, first time to see this practice in a hotel !! The street was blocked due to long term work and could not access with the car (this was very inconvenient upon arrival and was not communicated to us before arrival that we had to take a different road to access the hotel) !! The room was too small for 5 persons, no space at all !! The guest kitchen was very smelly most of the time. No safe box in the room. No phone in the room in case of emergency !!
Review 2:It was a shame that work started digging up the road outside our room at about 6.30am, it was noisy because of that and then the next morning we could hear the trolleys rolling the laundry in and out but this was not as early as the noise the previous day.
Review 3:Although it wasn't really in the centre of where we wanted to go, links were good. Wifi was handy too and staff were lovely.
Review 4:There was not a kettle in the room, and the one in the communal kitchen was not working, so I had to ask for a cup of hot water every morning and evening for a tea.
Review 5:The staff were very friendly and helpful. The room was clean and quiet.
Review 6:Waiting time at check in was long, even though there weren't many guests in the reception.
Review 7:Nice big rooms, with good modern design. Good wifi and OK breakfast. Efficient hotel without a lot of charm - you sleep and go. Location close to S-Bahn.
Review 8:The breakfest was expensive face to its quality (6,90 euro per person, didn't have any natural juice or eggs).
Review 9:Everything was really clean, bath was awesome, big room, very comfortable!
Review 10:There was building work going on at the rear of the building, so we were woken up very early in the morning by drilling etc
Review 11:The staff were friendly and helpful. The whole place was very clean
Review 12:The breakfast fruit salad was canned fruit and no wholewheat buns. I would pay 2 euro more for breakfast if there was a fresh fruit salad.
Review 13:It was quiet and clean.
Review 14:The WiFi was none existent. Unable to connect and really poor the odd chance you could connect.
Review 15:I liked the location of the hotel, it was a nice quiet residential area. The staff were pleasant and very helpful if you had a query
Review 16:The staff were very friendly and the hotel is only a few mins walk from Altona S-bahn station. We were a family of 4 and a baby, our room was already prepared with a crib for the baby and was very clean. It is a simple hotel but has a very nice lively and modern atmosphere.
Review 17:1) Breakfast was very poor 2) Hotel lift didn't work properly (waiting for minutes)!!
Review 18:1) A good and clean bathroom. 2) Parking place for free available finally 3) Many tourist guides next to the reception available 4) Nice place to stay
Review 19:Friendly staff, very efficient management, great facilities, super breakfast with lots of choice, we've got nothing but praise and have even considered visiting other cities with the Meininger chain of hotels. Perfect for a family.
Review 20:It's geared to students, who by nature tend to be loud and playful. Nothing wrong with that, but not a good idea with for a family with young kids. Having to wait until 1000 for "quiet hours" it's difficult.
Review 21:The staff very attentive and helpful, cordial and courteous. The price very good.
Review 22:Nothing. Didn't check out the bar / snooker hall / breakfast but all were available and popular. If you are a solo traveller and want to meet people this isn't really the place - it's better for existing groups. There were a fair few school groups.
Review 23:We were a group of 5 in early 20s. Room was spacious, has basic facilities but staying for 3 nights as group of 5 we didn't need anything else. Beds were comfortable and room was big - we definitely weren't cramped in like a hostel. Made full use of the shared kitchen. Lidl at Alton station. Staff were helpful and friendly at all times. 24 hour reception. Excellent free wifi. Easy access from Alton station to anywhere in city. 20-30 minute walk to neighbouring areas with plenty of bars, restaurants, Reeperbahn.
Review 24:The breakfast is all cold food. And is very over prices for what it is worth
Review 25:Where it is located near the train station plenty of good restaurant . The staff is very helpful .
Review 26:When checking in was asked for names and birthdates of people I was travelling with. I hadn't been asked for this before and thought it odd. Also, when booking this thought it was a 3 star hotel, but it's actually more like a hostel. Don't expect shampoo or coffee in the room. Lastly, we could hear every footstep of people going up and down the stairs (all night), so sound insulation leaves a lot to be desired.
Review 27:Near to Altona train station which is a plus - about 7 mins walk away.
Review 28:heavy traffic and a lot of noise in the morning
Review 29:perfect communication abilities of staff - they all speak fluent English, hotel is close to Altona train station and S-bahn
Review 30:It is more like a hostel than hotel, there are many young students or teenagers lives here. So it was noisy and they are playing games in the passageway about 11 pm. It is really terrible. I hope next time the staff here could do sth to prevent from happening.
Review 31:The location is really good, only 6mins to the S-Bahn and train station.
Review 32:Friendly and helpful staff who all spoke English. Banu on reception was very helpful and friendly. Hotel was clean and walking distance to the reeperbahn etc..
Review 33:Shower not very efficient, but not a significant fault. Room overlooked a park area - nice! If you want the window open, be prepared to pt up with a certain noise from the street.
Review 34:The room was comfortable and spacious. Good location, close to Hamburg-Altona station, for exploring Altona or Hamburg generally. Fun atmosphere (but perhaps disturbing for those who lokk for peace and quiet).
Review 35:The breakfast was not very good. Not many healthy options for the money. Best to go out and eat.
Review 36:Staff was helpful and lived the location and cleanliness.
Review 37:I stayed at Meininger Salzburg and found the facilities are nicer there.
Review 38:Parking comfortably, elevator to reception and room. Abundant breakfast. Clean.
Review 39:A member of staff called Emilie? wasn't so helpful, maybe she can learn from the rest of the staff. One elevator is not enough for the size of the place.
Review 40:The staff at the Meininger were fantastic and the most welcoming I have come across, especially with a group of 21 lads. They were helpful throughout and Gabriele had a smile of an Angel! The rooms were clean and tidy and well presented for an hostel. The location is great with Altona being just a 5 minute walk. I would certainly recommend the Meininger to large and small groups. There was a nice atmosphere around the place and I believe the staff create this.
Review 41:far from main city but close to S bahn (metro) so it was ok
Review 42:close to supermarket and jim block, big room, luggage room (keep baggage), good wifi, cozy lobby
Review 43:very noicy in breakfast room, i thougt i was in a school.
Review 44:Nice people all over the town, friendly staff at the hotel, quiet at room, ok breakfast, very quick check out.
Review 45:Room was next to the elevator machinery, which makes quite some noise.
Review 46:The free wifi worked decently. My room had a small desk and views from the sixth floor. Staff was very friendly. Breakfast was OK and had a reasonable price.
Review 47:Rooms could do with some pictures and that's it
Review 48:The stag were great and helpful the room were so so clean wifi was great it was central to everything
Review 49:Tables during breakfast were never clean.
Review 50:Big room Room was Clean Friendly staff Free Internet Parking (12€ a Day) Breakfast with reduced price for children
Review 51:- Location is great! Very close to U-Bahn! - Friendly and helpful Staff - 24/7 Reception desk with Tea/Coffee/Snacks - Clean room & Comfort, Nice design
Review 52:Beware that there is no alcohol permitted on premises (small issue) and that all rooms are monitored via video (big issue - privacy !)
Review 53:Rooms were small but beds quite comfortable. Good value breakfast at 5.90 Euro. Location is OK - just jump onto the train to to to the City from the near train station.
Review 54:Would have been nice to have tea/coffee facilities in the room
Review 55:The staff were really helpful and friendly. Very clean rooms and facilities. Close to station and then 15mins to city centre.
Review 56:The rooms are a bit cold in the winter.. However, no big issue with this.
Review 57:The central location is great and it's easy to travel around the city from Altona. Great & spacious rooms for friends sharing!
Review 58:Coming out of a train station for the first time always means asking for directions.
Review 59:The station has a Lidl and a Mcdonalds. Closer to the hostel is a large supermarket/home centre from which you can buy food, drink, clothing, tools etc. They offer a buffet for 5.90 but they also have a guest kitchen, in which you can prepare your own food. There was free wi-fi and the PC was 1euro for 20minutes. The staff spoke German and English fluently, perhaps some other languages too. One member highlighted areas on a map for me to enjoy as I hadn't prepared for sight-seeing. I had a single room which could fit two beds. Lovely shower/bathroom. Good atmosphere and would recommend it to others.
Review 60:Excellent stay, friendly staff, 5 minute walk to some cheap local restaurants or the railway station to jump on the S Bahn. Breakfast buffet was also great value. The room was also clean and we had fresh towels as needed.
Review 61:The position near Altona was very convenient. It is also good value for money. It was the third time staying there and it is consistently good. The room was cleaned every day.
Review 62:On booking.com you cannot book the hoStel, you can only book the hotel. Private rooms costs 60 -100 Euro per night and are a waste of money. For this price you 1) have to pay room in advance 2) cannot complain about anything 3) and updgrade is treated as a checkout 4) pay 10 Euro late fee, if you are 1 minute late 5) notorious German bad guest service at its worst!
Review 63:Rooms are clean, but clean rooms you also get at the hostel Meininger that offers beds in dorms of 2-8 people for 15-35 Euro per night /per person. Some of these hostel rooms have been converted in hotel rooms by adding a flat TV and vice versa - by removing the TV.
Review 64:We booked in for 8 nights to tie in attendance at a trade show and time for sightseeing but after 6 nights disturbed sleep - other guests and staff working early morning - we had to move to another hotel.
Review 65:Nothing.
Review 66:We liked the clean big room, the position to the station and so easy transport to anywhere. close to shopping centre and good restaurants. We could do a load of washing in the communal well equipped kitchen.
Review 67:Cannot think of anything to complain about.
Review 68:Great location right beside Altona station with instant access to everywhere, very friendly staff, large and clean rooms. We have stayed there 3 times now and are definately coming back.
Review 69:The only thing I like there was close to the city centre meeting point and stuf. The room was okey but the bed is not good for a business man or woman. The prise for the such room is bad. I did not like dat much.
Review 70:Well is a city centr close to the train station . For yur business meeting point and stuf . For mee it was okey.the only thing
Review 71:Staff & their service was a lot better than five star hotel. Each and every member of staff was sooooooooo gooooood. We booked a room for 5 but were a family of four . Had the room for our self. Was better than a 5* room with extra bed.
Review 72:This was more of a hostel then a hotel. Large room but old and dingy (the photos on the website must be models). The room hadn't been properly cleaned - when I turned on the light it was full of dead bugs. Ashtrays overflowing with butts. Full bed in single room was 2 thin mattresses on wood - very uncomfortable. Had a bar but I didn't see it open. WiFi was spotty. I found another hotel for my second night and was much happier - spent less too.
Review 73:The checkin/out was fast. The staff was friendly but busy. I've had decent stays at Meininger's in the past but this wasn't one of them.
Review 74:Fair walk away from where the action is at although some may see that as a strength. Meant a few ppl got lost after a hectic night!
Review 75:30 guys on a stag was always going to be a tough one! Meininger were fantastic checking us in quickly recommending good places to stay and being generally helpful all around! I couldn't have got better value for money! Would highly recommend!
Review 76:1. Internet connection can be hard to access and can be slow at times. 2. Hope they maximise the backyard and make use of it. Nice to have a neat and clean garden to supplement this place.
Review 77:1. Real value for money when staying in Hamburg. 2. The number of beds for small families. There are a number of parking slots that you can park your car outside the hotel. 3. Shared kitchen that you can cook at the ground floor. 4. Small toy area (hope they can expand this)
Review 78:Just one "main" lift caused some delays
Review 79:The rooms on the 5th/6th floor were very comfortable Breakfast Quieter than originally imagined
Review 80:Basically nothing. But the hotel is more suitable for young people. Many students there during our stay.
Review 81:Very nice and helpful staff. Very close to ALtona subway station and easy to go out
Review 82:Some staff members were a bit snotty. The bedding in my room had long black hairs on it and obviously had not been changed before my arrival. The hotel is a short walk from a nearby train station if you are only carrying a backpack, but a real nightmare if you have heavy luggage.
Review 83:The rooms were comfortable and had nice views of the rooftops of Hamburg. There is a fun, relaxed atmosphere in the property and it is a decent value for the money. Some of the staff were pleasant and helpful.
Review 84:I don't think it would be a very sociable place for solo travelers - the common areas were limited and small.
Review 85:The hotel was easy to find and in an excellent location for local transport and places of interest. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable with good wi-fi access. Excellent value for money.
Review 86:Some of the staff were aloof.
Review 87:The location was close to the Altona S-Bahn station.
Review 88:Staff is very friendly and helpful. Is well located, only a block away from Altona train station. A handy supermarket around the corner
Review 89:the welcome, all the services, the kitchen, the location everything is exactly what is needed, no extra but nothing is missing
Review 90:wifi is pretty good! the room is quite clean and comfortable.
Review 91:Kind, friendly and smiley staff. Our room was clean and comfortable. Good value for money.
Review 92:Price at Weekend :(
Review 93:Location. Week's Price was fair with falcilities
Review 94:No kettle in our room. Limited TV channels.
Review 95:Convenient for where we wanted to be, clean, modern, young vibe!
Review 96:NA
Review 97:simple, clean hotel.
Review 98:Charge 5Euro for Key card, breakfast that is 6Euro90 is shocking
Review 99:Great location, nice spacious, clean rooms
Review 100:Excellent value for money. Large clean rooms. Good breakfast.
Review 101:Clean, friendly and cheap!
Review 102:No coffee machines in room
Review 103:Kitchen facilities. Washing machine and dryer available on site for very cheap. Nice location.
Review 104:Friendly personal, clean room
Review 105:Parking was a little difficult. Limited offer on breakfast, but according to the price.
Review 106:Clean, Helpfull staff
Review 107:Lack of parking facilities very noisy
Review 108:Clean
Review 109:Location. Facility of a kitchen and washing machine.
Review 110:However, very very unclean. Even for a hostel.
Review 111:Typical hostel.
Review 112:We are 5 person, but one bed was not prepared.
Review 113:Little bit shabby, but otherwise good
Review 114:Good location
Review 115:Nothing to complain about
Review 116:As with just about everywhere in Germany. It is difficult/impossible to find fault with. Cleanliness was 1st class
Review 117:Loud hostel for teenager groups, bad choice if you want to sleep before 2am.
Review 118:Nice modern rooms
Review 119:Nothing
