Reviews for A&O Hamburg Hauptbahnhof
Review 1:Check in was very slow. I wasn't asked if I needed bedlinen or towels. In my room, a part of the curtain fell from the window. The window let in too much noise from the busy street. The mattress was the thinnest I've ever slept on.
Review 2:Easy to walk to from Hamburg's central train station. Cheap.
Review 3:The staff was really not helpful, most of them they couldn't speak English and couldn't help us that much and 2 girls of the reception where really rude
Review 4:The location
Review 5:I had to share 6 beds room (my choice) with one permanent resident who played video game well after 11pm and when I complained, he, arrogantly told me this, that was his room. I only stay one night and moved to one bed room. I think you should select these people to share rooms with travellers as the other 3 persons in the room, were females and I think they were afraid to complaint.
Review 6:Easy access to major touristic places
Review 7:Low cost companies charge for every extra service. I was charged for the bed linen, I could agree, but I wouldn't say that a a bed in a 6-room that cost 24 € is low cost. The pillow was very bad. I was supper thin. I stayed in room 112.
Review 8:The front desk staff was terrible and rude abd they like to charge extra for everything. They could not answer a simple question like where to park my car.
Review 9:I was first put in a 6-people mixed dorm, while the 5 others were all male and apparently had fun digging and throwing MY personal belonging all around (and they even hid some!). Mixed dorm might work in other cities, but for Hamburg it's just a little bit too crazy.
Review 10:Breakfast was only cold food. Nice fresh bread and butter went down well, though.
Review 11:Place was cheap, had a group room and had a buffet breakfast. Seemed to have a couple of bar areas and a games room but we didn't use them.
Review 12:Hamburg has impressed me as big, frenetic and animate city. The harbour had a strong impact in my mind. The hostel is located in a good position, not so far the Speicherstadt and the channels.
Review 13:Dirty room, dirty bathroom, dirty coridors, dirty lift, poor stuff in bar (total amateurs). One positive thing in this hotel was Astra bar but now it is open only on Friday and Saturday.
Review 14:Free wifi in room
Review 15:Wi-fi with fee, but the code you obtain is only available for one device. It is not very useful if both laptop and mobile are on.
Review 16:On the whole fully satisfied, the staff is competent, helpful and gentle.
Review 17:Pretty much everything was great.
Review 18:I found location excellent. Also, the facilities was good, staff was pleasant and cleanliness was top. I would recommend it for anyone loogking for good service for fair price.
Review 19:they don't remind you that there are no sheets. you have to find out after youve been in your room first. not a big deal though.
Review 20:paying around 30 euros in total for a room for 6 ( we stayed with 5) made us wonder what the room would be like for such a low price. The room luckily was clean which i think is most important. The beds were OK, but dont forget to ask for the sheets after checking in. Arriving there on a friday night (weekend) meant that we could park for free just in front of the hostel at non-hostel parking spaces. The lady helping us at the counter was nice, not rude at all as I read in other comments. So all in all an amazingly cheap stay at an alright hostel.
Review 21:I booked a female dorm and was put in a mixed dorm, but more annoyingly they made me pay for an extra 3€ fee for bed sheets that wasn't in the quote I got from booking.com nor was it on their website or the price list prominently hanging at the reception. (btw same applies to towels, which is not so much out of the ordinary for hostels though.)
Review 22:The place is a short five minutes away from the main train station if you're ready to cross a fairly busy eight-lane street at a spot without traffic lights.
Review 23:Reception staff claimed there was no booking, room was arranged only after I had forwarded the confirmation from booking.com When my fellow travellers tried to check in some hours later they were instead told that twice the amount of rooms had been reserved (!), staff could however not specify in what names...
Review 24:Proximity to main train station
Review 25:Price is pretty high for a hostel, should be 30-35% cheaper.. You have to pay extra for sheets.. It was global clean, but in the corners you saw a lot of dust and in the mold It's very big so you are a number (not so cozy)
Review 26:location is good The staff was friendly A lot of facilities Free parking in the weekend
Review 27:Location close to main railway station, friendly staff, free wifi and excellent value for money.
Review 28:The shower was broken, problems with hot and cold water, the room key was broken too!
Review 29:Good roommates and safe environment
Review 30:Standard of a youth hostel for hotel prices. Should not be advertised as a hotel on booking.com
Review 31:The room was clean
Review 32:Difficult to find. By a busy road and flyover
Review 33:Central postion
Review 34:Actually not that as cheap you imagine..
Review 35:The location was great (really close to railwaystation.) Staff was nice!!! Breakfast wasn't special but it was totally worth 7 €.
Review 36:Distance from the city centre.
Review 37:Quite on the top floor.
Review 38:Location
Review 39:The room was very noisy due to the road and the impossibility to close the window due to the high temperature caused by the hot-water boiler
Review 40:Bathroom Towels should also be provide and bed sheet should not be charged extra..
Review 41:Good
Review 42:bit noisy and could be a bit cleaner in the public areas
Review 43:Location, cost, really helpful staff.
Review 44:The receptionist who checked us in was quite grumpy and didn't provide us with any information plus she didn't give us the bedding we were entitled to. She was new to the job apparently but you need good people skills to be a receptionist!
Review 45:Good value for money and good central location. Great if all you want is a comfy bed and hot water! The free wifi was also a bonus.
Review 46:The bar was open 24 hours except on saturday night when a new member of staff declared it shut to myself and 5 other people after we returned to the hotel at 3 am asking for a drink. I did not know the other 4 people, but the barwoman, was unhelpful. Finally it is a non smoking hotel, but although the city of Hamburg allows smoking rooms, well ventaleted, which the hotel chain does do in Prague, this hotel has no such facilities.
Review 47:I was given a twin room for no extra charge, staff helpful except on saturday night, see negative comment. Hotel only 2 bus stops from central station, bus every 5 minutes. The hotel is very clean, extensive breakfast until 10 am weekdays, 11 weekends, You can book a 2 pm check out for 7.5 euros instead of 11 am check out without.
Review 48:It is not exactly that close to Hamburg Hauptbahnhof (Main Train Station) as its name suggests, though it is still within 15 minutes' walk.
Review 49:I stayed in one-bed room. At 35 Euro per night, it is actually a good value. And it is quite clean.
Review 50:The Hotel room is big, clean and spacious with an excellent internet connection. The Staff were kind and helpful. It was a short but nice stay, I would surely stay there next time i am in Hamburg.
Review 51:I can't think of something bad at the moment
Review 52:it was situated well all of the important places were in Walking distance. The rooms were quite big for a hostel. The staff was friendly and we were luckily able to check in already at 8 o'clock in the morning. (We didn't expect that!!!) The breakfast buffet was very good for a hostel!!!
Review 53:Noisy at night because rooms is near the fly over. If you drink you have to deposit 1 euro for the bottle if you will not order again the 1 euro is keep by them.
Review 54:The bathrrom inside the dormitory is clean.
Review 55:Two minor gripes - no facility for an evening meal and the small bar next to reception only had stools. Didn't use the downstairs bar.
Review 56:Breakfast was good. My single room was small and sparsely furnished, but adequate for the few days I stayed there. Was a 10 minute walk from the Hauptbahnhof and its public transport links to all parts of the city. The Rathaus was about a 20 minute walk if one ignored the shop windows and sights on the way!!
Review 57:It's a party hotel with a bar for students or young people who want to party. The standard is very low in the room, uncomfortable beds, dirty walls, worn furniture. One can hear EVERY single noise in the hall. Someone was talking outside our door at 4 in the morning and we could hear every word and could not sleep. The reception area REEKED of alcohol when I went down to complain about the noise. One must cross a dangerous street to get to the hotel - the main entrance is tucked under a street ramp. When we arrived there were several young men wearing purple wigs and bottles of Jagermeister on the ground. Enough said. For the price I would have expected much more. This hotel is not for families or older adults. We were extremely disappointed.
Review 58:Nothing
Review 59:While the room itself was quite OK, the entrance etc are rather run down (It's a hotel and hostel at the same time). It's quite close to the central train station, but also right next to a big road.
Review 60:1) They charged 5 more euro as a tax and the use of credit card costs about 3 euros. 2) No sheet on the beds. 3) no fridge in the room. 4) The lobby was very small to sit and use internet. 5) No daily cleaning service. 6) No shampoo and body gel in the bathroom. 7) The room was very small for four persons.
Review 61:The staff were friendly.
Review 62:I was surprised with an additional small payment of ~ 3 euro for citytax or something. The breakfast is not free. The price for usingtheir computer with the Internet is too much - 1 euro per 20 mins!Wi-Fi is not free.
Review 63:Awesome location - about 7 mins of walking from Central Railway station.Staff is very friendly and nice. It's rather a hostel for youngtravelers. But older people and families can stay as well. The hostelhas a bar at the reception and another bar with a dance floor in thebasement. I stayed on upper floor and it was quiet over there.
Review 64:not clear that dormitories were not same sex--staying with 2 young girls and a male in the room was not acceptable but unable to change. Very expensive for the amenities (40E per person per night for hostel seems very high to me)--no lounge area to sit for the free wifi except bar beds creaky and kept us awake whenever anyone moved
Review 65:close to train station
Review 66:awfull stuff which doesnt speak english comission 2.50 for payments with cards additional payments check in check out 15.00/10.00
Review 67:place cleanness
Review 68:Bit unpersonal rooms, only bunkbeds no double bed for the parents
Review 69:clean rooms, price for a six bedroom was good. Finally a place where you can sleep with the whole family in one room!
Review 70:The room I stayed was facing to some street which was somehow noisy.
Review 71:It's in good location, and has clean facilities, and the price was one of the cheapest.
Review 72:Our Wed & Thurs stays were fine, quiet & relaxing, but Fri was altogether different. 2 rooms away was a group of young men, who shouted and banged around including jumping from ? . this occurred up until about 9 pm. I went to reception & was told nothing would happen until security came on duty at 10 pm. I did ask for a quit er room. I returned to our room & decided to write a note in English, noting that every room pays & every room is entitled to some quiet, & I asked them to quieten down. I placed this note at their doorstep. Shortly they quietened down.. Next morning, about 5, the noise returned, as they entered their room. We stayed in A&O, Dresden, in 2010, Because we liked it there, we booked A&O in Hamburg, but we were disappointed.
Review 73:big room very clean amenities breakfast dining very good
Review 74:it was terrible. there four A&O hostels at hamburg, when i go one of them, they always said we have no bed i made reservation for the other for you but when we go to other they said we have no bed you can go to the A&O but i didn't go to the third one. they have very unfriendly staff!!!
Review 75:The location was convenient during the day but I wouldn't want to go out late at night alone. There is nothing around, except for the pizza/döner shop. Although the staff was very friendly, they were kind of clueless. I asked the fischmarkt and was told there was only fish there and if I wanted to eat breakfast there I could only eat fish (which btw is totally untrue, as it is more of a market that happens to have fish). Then when I asked about renting a bike, the girl didn't know anything, so she referred me to her collegue(ok fine), so I talked to the other girl and she told me I could rent one as of 7am if I wanted to go early to the fischmarkt (great!). Then when I realized I didn't know the prices and inquired about them(with at this point someone else), I was told I would have had to reserve the bike when I made the reservation for my room. Kind of baffled by this since I got all sorts of answers, I decided to ask in the morning when I actually wanted the bike if I could rent one and at this point, the guy just looked to see if there were any free and there weren't any so I couldn't. Now no big deal, they had none left, but just get your employees on board with how this works, and make sure it works the same for all of them. I'm all for having a bar in a hostel, but this one is just badly placed and too small for the amount of people there. It's right between the lobby and the rooms, so you have to shuffle through crowds to get to your room at night, and there's only about 10 seats if you want to have a drink...
Review 76:It was near the train station and easily accessible. Staff was friendly.
Review 77:First of all I can not call this place a hotel at all. It looks more like a hostel to me. I mean both the atmosphere and the service. I was there before but that time I stayed at a 6-person room. The value for money was so much better then! I was so dissatisfied with my room, there was only place enough for a bed and your belongings, nothing else! Besides the cleanness leaved much to be desired, the walls were in need of painting and there were stains on them. The bathroom was ok though. My friends stayed at a hotel just 15 minutes walk from AO hostel, where they payed the same price for a way better living standard.
Review 78:Location: in the middle of Hamburg City. Cleanliness: the hotel lived up to my expectations. It's not exactly a place for a romantic get-away, but for a fun weekend with friends, it's perfect. The rooms are clean and you get really good value for money.
Review 79:But because of too thin walls you could hear every word said in the neighbours room although said in normal tone. I recomend ear plugs and sleeping mask for those having trouble sleeping
Review 80:Tidy and comfortable rooms, well equiped. Personnel with good knowlege of english. Although the hotel is mainly for young people having fun and the lobby was full of them, my part of the hotel (5th floor) was really quiet.
Review 81:litle bit cold in room (temperature outside was -15 at this moment) - but comfortable for sleeping.
Review 82:good, looks like new, clean, value for money, close to railway central station and city-centre
Review 83:1000 hours vacation of the room is a little too early.
Review 84:The simplicity of booking and the attitude of staff. It is convenientfor the Airport and Railway system.
Review 85:Bad area so near the train and bus stations. No security on who can come into the rooms. No wifi in the room.
Review 86:Comfort, staff.
Review 87:Nothing!
Review 88:Four-bed room was very very small
Review 89:Very good location, near the central railway station and city center.
Review 90:clean bathroom & toilet in the room (with soap, shower gel, hairdryer), the room was quite big
Review 91:Had to pay for sheets extra. Good way to make their prices look good:( poor breakfast for 6€
Review 92:relatively close to the subway clean
Review 93:Only free wifi in lobby.
Review 94:Good location right next to central station and a 10 Minute walk into town.
Review 95:Comfort No Wi-Fi

Review 100:Staff were excellent Clean, comfortable, affordable
Review 101:Check in takes a long time because of the amount of incoming visitors
Review 102:Nice clean room. Clean bathroom. Perfect for a group of friends on a city trip.
Review 103:Noisy rooms caused by loud drunk teenagers and horrible bed
Review 104:Breakfast
Review 105:location
Review 106:At the door, there are stairs. It is hard to enter with my luggage.
Review 107:Clean and price is good. Staffs can speak english. Close to main station.
Review 108:To not have bed linen in the advertised price. The room needsrefrigirator badly.
Review 109:Placement inside of the city.
Review 110:No telecommunication and No TV Sets.
Review 111:Well the environment is very neat and decent.
Review 112:very homey, a reall winner.
Review 113:condions are good. not far from center.
Review 114:The atmosphere
Review 115:A bit expensive
Review 116:Service Location
Review 117:noisy...
Review 118:Good location, great staff
Review 119:There was blood on the sheets. It was changed directly when Iinformed the maid.
Review 120:Location is great! Very nice staff!
Review 121:It should actually be called hostel because there're loads of loud drunk teenagers.
Review 122:Breakfast was nice.
Review 123:This is not a hotel, it is a hostel.
Review 124:As soon as you once throw away your towels new once never come despite i asked on reception.
