Reviews for Hotel Hafen Hamburg

Review 1:Fireworks in City Centre was not controlled and frankly I was surprised more people were not hurt. However it did not spoil our Hamburg "experience". Shops in centre seems to be good value for money.

Review 2:Hotel room very good. Liked the apple and sweets in the room. Room service very good. Taxi service excellent. Fireworks at the Port Area excellent. Bar on the corner by the Tower Room to the left of hotel reception very good ( about 200mtrs at traffic lights). Restaurants in hotel & City were good value for money. Cafe down by the Port was very good for breakfast.

Review 3:The room was extremely small with no space to get in to the bed on the far side, and the bathroom was unnecessarily large!

Review 4:Excellent position and beautiful view of the harbour.

Review 5:WiFi was traffic capped after 512 MB despite claiming free WiFi. Staff could have been friendlier, some of the staff were perfectly nice and polite while others seemed to not care much about the guests. (especially in the restaurant)

Review 6:Directly located to the harbour and next to a U-Bahn station. Very central, great breakfast and rooms are worth it's money.

Review 7:only two small towels and one pillow. the bed was also not super soft. could hear everything happening in other rooms and in corridor.

Review 8:location is splendid and personnel is nice. the hotel looks very authentic

Review 9:Breakfast offered was 20€ per Person. No offer of a light breakfast (coffee and sweet bun)

Review 10:View of the Hamburg Harbor. Big rooms in the Residenz building

Review 11:They charged my card twice for the room. When mentionen in reception they denied. Made a copy of the account and emailed, then they charged me again. So i have now been charged 3times instead of one. Several days has passed and they still hasent fixed it. At least they could of called med and explain what they are doing and why.

Review 12:Despite precise recervation of a table in the restaurant a much less suitable table was given.

Review 13:LUCKY to get a Harbour View! Food in Restaurant very good

Review 14:wi-fi-free one is bad joke, but if you buy more-9.90 euros for one connection,as soon as you leave hotel you loose this wifi and on return should pay again 9.90.ask personal -they will tell its your phones fault.spent 60 euros within 3 days for internet. I had accident in shower as shower was 28cm high and very slipery floor -no mat.I twisted my knee-staff was not really interested in me,I should search for taxi,go to hospital,as a result I cant walk .no one even asked how I feel. Food very expensive and no good at all-had rotten fish in first day. Cleanness in room-very bad.on arrival room is clean but later no one really clean it-carpet was dirty,in bathroom was not clean at all. Also they have extra small towels-you cant wrap up after shower. Duvet was very thin and I was cold in night time. Also hotel is extremely noisy-train going all night, bell is ringing every 30 min, windows bad quality as you can hear everything plus you feel wind too:) No kettle in room-so you cant make tea or coffee-for 4* its terrible.Actually I didnt felt like in 4* hotel. Also staff is coming in without knocking and even if you have do not disturb sign. I would better avoid this hotel Also they charged me on first day for breakfest I might have-I had no plans to have breakfest here and also deposit without telling me anything.on booking.com its stated no extra charges on arrival.so nice surprise 200 euro difference on your card. Its also true-fridge is empty, only water and advert of beverage machines on ground floor but map is so complicated-impossible to understand. I am not spoiled-all I need clean safe hotel room and no rip-off and respect to me as client.very sad experience and trip.

Review 15:apple in the room-supose to be everyday-only if staff remember to put it here.

Review 16:The electric light environment in the rooms of the newest part, in which we stayed this last time, could be better. Difficult to read or write after dark.

Review 17:Location in Hamburg. Historic quality of the hotel, good integration between the old part and the newer extended parts.

Review 18:No tea making facilities Breakfast too expensive at €20 each so ate out, OK for big eaters but waste of money if you just want cereal & fruit! Looked very nice

Review 19:Comfy bed, lovely bath & great view

Review 20:The left could do with some updating it should stop on each floor.

Review 21:I got to park in the yard car park outside the check in counter which was great. Also I left my bags at the hotel after checking out and the staff were very helpful

Review 22:The new building construction is impossible to stay on. The train runs exactly below the building, and is possible to feel the vibration and all the noises of the train. This is all day and night, at all the time. Also, there is not internal communication between the main entrance of the hotel, located in the old building and the new building. Therefore, the guest must get in the cold, wind and rain after the check-in. There is not support (concierge) service to the guess. You must carry your own luggage in the above mentioned atmosphere. Bottom line: Euros 170.00 per night, not included the breakfast and far away from the city, is too much for a room in Hamburg. Not recommended at all.

Review 23:Marine, old fashion style in the less expensive part of the Hotel. The old construction is nice, silence and less expensive. Excellent atmosphere.

Review 24:No working Internet connection; breakfast is very expensive; only access by stairs. small rooms

Review 25:The location; perfect located for downtown, harbour,. Within 30 minutes walking distance you reach everything important. the tower bar is nice

Review 26:I have asked for a good room and I got it. I was informed at arrival that the room was small but that was ok for me. Great location, efficient staff, fair price. Overall it was great.

Review 27:Angry staff , too many fly in the room , very old hotel , always Forget to put the complementary water , House keeping come to the room at 8 o'clock even with the do not disturb sign at the door, not to clean the room good , very very slow speed of the free internet and disconnected too many times and their answer always was we can not do anything , no internet connection for any kind of apple devices , weak English speaking staff ,

Review 28:Location

Review 29:Internet service is lousy and it cut out so that logging in has to be done several times. It is only free for a limited time. Then you have to pay 9 Euro. At a 4 star hotel internet should be free.

Review 30:Nothing to Dislike

Review 31:Great Location for all that Hamburg has to offer. Close to the Railway links, Docks, Reeperbahn. Food and Drink on Offer at the Hotel catered for all types. Staff worked with typical German efficiency, with a smile on their face.

Review 32:Internet connection - poor and unstable.

Review 33:Location is perfect if you like to see harbor ans St.Pauli, get a trip with boat or visit nice fish restaurants. Breakfast menu was excallent, rich and fresh, great choice.

Review 34:Bath tub (for having a shower) very slippery. Difficult to get into (ok, I'm not the youngest any longer). Anyway. Soap dispensers (I would prefer a soap bar and hair shampoo). 20 Euros for breakfast, while in town you get a decent one for less than half. Towerbar was a joke, extremely loud music, expensive cocktails.

Review 35:Great location in Hamburg. Close to U/S Bahn (beware of steep pathway to hotel, with outside steps, no lift as far as I can tell). Room very clean.

Review 36:You have to pay All including a breakfast whether you book one or not. They also required an extra deposit in case which seems to me a lack oftrust. This I did not like!

Review 37:A very nice building in a good location

Review 38:Had requested a queen size bed but they only had two single beds standing next to each other and was not possible to change (though I changed room but with similar beds).

Review 39:Perfect location for a view of the harbor and for visiting the St. Pauli entertainment district. Our room was rather big, nice, clean and had atmosphere.

Review 40:* poor parking situation. * staff was not very helpful * paying the parking ticket sep. in cash via overprized atm is just bad user exp. for a hotel of this type

Review 41:location is great

Review 42:The free WiFi is a joke. Snails pace and virtually inaccessible in your room. We had finally connected and got on a Skype session with our son. It disconnected mid-chat and our data plan was the backup. We incurred $75 in charges to our cellular plan. However the management compensated us by removing the overpriced buffet breakfast. ($20 per person)

Review 43:Rooms were clean and comfortable, however be sure if you want A/C to book the right room. I didn't realize we would have only a fan. It was a hot summer in Germany this year. Staff was very friendly.

Review 44:Be careful, this hotel has a high rating just because of its location. This hotel was OK but not good as a 4 star hotel. There is no air conditioning in the room.We had to open the windows to cool down the room. But there is a lot of noise around and it makes problem for your sleep. Just some of the rooms have good view. The cleanness was OK, but I expected more. There is no facility in the hotel except restaurants. The building is old and not modern. Except the location, the hotel does not the value of its price. The breakfast is too expensive.

Review 45:Nice location. Close to river, night life area and public transportation access

Review 46:We were surprised unpleasantly by check-in with the unreasonablerequirement of the reception stuff about an advance payment of all sumof booking, the subsequent fraudulent activity with my atm card, whichled to that my bank blocked the atm, the shivering hands of the stuffand lie about that the card doesn't works. Upon return from vacationI was waited by explanatory conversation with the specialist ofFraudulent Activity department of my Bank.

Review 47:We had a nice stay in the Kapitäns-Class Double room during 7 nights andremember with pleasure the see concept of our room and convenientlocation of the hotel.

Review 48:The room was extremely warm and really needed air conditioning. Even with the large window open the temperature of the room was very uncomfortable during the night

Review 49:The room was clean and good condition The pub and bars where very nice Location was good

Review 50:A lot of traffic noise. Windows had to stay open as no air conditioning so noise a concern.

Review 51:The view was wonderful. The proximity to all the must see sights and public transit great. Inside the hotel itself it was quiet. Loved the large washroom with bathtub.

Review 52:breakfast is expensive. Tower bar crowded and expensive.

Review 53:Nicely situated near the landungsbrucke. Beautiful. Ombination of old and new building. Comfortable and modern room. Nice touchof the webcam images on the tv screen. Every room thus enjoys a river view .

Review 54:Difficult access from the Tram. Extremely warm in the room, no air, but thankfully an electric fan did help.

Review 55:Pleasant and helpful staff. Maintenance and housekeeping very good.

Review 56:They placed us in a smoking room although I had included that we didn't smoke. We had to ask to change at 11pm after a long travel. The room was quite too small. I would think that a four star hotel would have nicer rooms by now.

Review 57:Location is perfect.

Review 58:No AC - maybe it was my fault for not looking into that fact being American and taking for granted all hotels have it. Windows only opened a bit from the top so no circulation either.

Review 59:Great location right near the harbor, old world charm

Review 60:Got two rooms with a view of the parking lot. If you want Wi-Fi for more than e-mail you will have to pay for it. All in all it was fine, but I'm not sure why other reviewers gushed about it - maybe they got a better rate and room.

Review 61:Good location on the harbor, a short walk to the Portuguese quarter with great restaurants or walk the other way to St. Pauli. Close to the U-Bahn, S-Bahn. Good size rooms.

Review 62:The river view rooms are too noisy. Subway is too close to the hotel. Ask for city view rooms if you want to sleep good.

Review 63:Really great location. Next to the most touristic attractions: St Pauli, Fischmarket, etc.

Review 64:the way the staff handled the change of my room again it seems like they just wanted to get it do and didnt care where to

Review 65:Position to my meetings was good

Review 66:My bathroom had some bad smell, which surprised me a bit, but no big deal.

Review 67:This hotel is next to LandungsBrucken Station. The Hamburg Harbor is just across the street. Not too far is the Portuguese area with many restaurants. The famous Fish Market is 10 minutes walk. The room I stays was in the newer tower building. The night view and morning view (when the sun came up and shone on the to be finished Opera House) were quite impressive. This was an extra bonus for me.

Review 68:No climate control in the seaman class room.

Review 69:Reasonably priced hotel overlooking the harbor from a tree lined terrace. I had a single room with stunning views of the harbor which they also have on the tv through a webcam.

Review 70:Was not aware of the limited space within the room, there was zero room to accommodate luggage ... be aware that the entrance from the Hafen area requires 70+ steps to be negotiated not good with suitcases. If arriving by train use St Pauli station, we live and learn.

Review 71:Great location, staff were friendly and the hotel is clean, fresh and modern. Arriving by train the hotel is very close to transport BUT.

Review 72:the wifi was difficult to access and maintain contact. a lift to the harbour level would be helpful

Review 73:the location is perfect the staff were VERY helpful

Review 74:I got a room of the category 'Kajüte' on ground floor with direct view to a wall. For the room price I had expected at least a view to the 'Landungsbrücken'.

Review 75:Bit nosy when the train passed every 15 minutes, lift broken, others still worked, staff gave me wrong room key.

Review 76:Position with all most everything I needed

Review 77:location is good, room size good, plenty of hot water in the shower. Guests have a choice of eating places within the hotel. The quaint bar that was nice to sit in and enjoy a beer.

Review 78:Certainly not a four star hotel as advertised, Room service unacceptable (empty bottles were left in the rooms, used towels thrown in the corner of the room, no air-condition, windows cannot be opened due to noise (I should have warned because the amenity kid consisted only out of a pair of earplugs; rooms are old and worn out (my romm had nothing to do with the pictures on the web site, the hotel is focusing on a quick turnover of day tour tourists, which results in a lack of ambience and service

Review 79:The location

Review 80:Very expensive breakfast and daily fee for pets

Review 81:The hotel is very well situated, near Reeperbahn, the harbor and Landungsbrücken. With a little luck you can get a free parking along the street Petfriendly

Review 82:Wifi was poor. Constantly asking account again and again. If not noted myself, then no emails received etc.

Review 83:Great location next to river and Landungbrucken. Downtown within walking distance. Very wide selection in breakfast

Review 84:Cold buffet breakfast good but inadequate hot food available and eggs were cooked one at a time on small hot plate No little important extras in bathroom and no tea making facilities or bottled water in fridge.

Review 85:Comfort of hotel and nice homely bar.Steps up to hotel might be a problem for some.Evening restaurant served good food and staff were very pleasant.

Review 86:I would have liked a kettle in the room and possibility to make coffee! Beds were kind of narrow and not that comfortable. Room smallish.

Review 87:Great view of the harbour. Friendly staff. Close walk to station.

Review 88:Staff at the reception are not that great they have some rude attitude with some guests. They don't familiar with the area!. The hotel without air-con and you cannot sleep with open windows due to the noise outside.

Review 89:Well, the hotel designed it very historical, and the few at the port side its amazing, very close to metro station, which major station. and that's only. The housekeeping staff are very professional and very nice with all

Review 90:The WiFi in our room was very poor, but at the reception it was better. We decided against the hotel breakfast, as we considered €20 per person to be excessive. Instead, we walked a couple of hundred metres to a bakery, where we enjoyed an excellent breakfast for about €5 each.

Review 91:The location was excellent, at least for our purposes.

Review 92:Despite my room being on the 8th floor the noise in the room was extremely loud due to the Metro running right next to the hotel. The plumbing also made extremely loud noises every time someone in a neighbouring room had a shower! Unacceptable for a hotel charging over a £100 a night for a single room which was the size of a shoebox.

Review 93:Small room. Breakfast price too much expensive Old building just a little bit dark

Review 94:New building . Room style and its cleanliness Panorama from the room

Review 95:A hotel with changing visitors. Staff not impressive and not willing to go out of their way. The breakfast arrangement on Sunday was a disaster: overcrowded and noisy.

Review 96:I share the opinion that WIFI (high speed) should be free in every hotel. Free WIFI was limited to 1Mbit. Faster internet with extra payment.

Review 97:Staff was very friendly and helpful. Enjoyed the old style pub inside the hotel a lot! Great Hamburg and harbor atmosphere everywhere!

Review 98:There was a thick carpet in the room and no proper ventilation (room 30216). This makes the air quality very poor and definitely not suited for allergists like myself. New nice bathroom, but when you used the shower, the water went all over the floor and even into the corridor... Really not good. Hair drier was broken.

Review 99:Leaving the next day, my wife and I felt very comfortable in the hotel, we could have stayed longer

Review 100:Brilliant location, very close to all the night life of Hamburg

Review 101:The WiFi was a bit slow at times.

Review 102:Very nice and clean room, friendly and helpful staff. Excellent restaurant and Tower bar with a view. Within walking distance from city center.

Review 103:Price of breakfast a bit steep (there are excellent cafes only a short walk away though), room could use hot drink facilities (kettle) though this is a very trivial point.

Review 104:A well located hotel, very clean, modern & spacious room with a decent refrigerated minibar, staff very friendly, free wifi was excellent (just web browsing on a 7 inch tablet though). I would definitely stay in this hotel again if staying in Hamburg.

Review 105:We couldn't get soap (bar) but that was a minor matter. The room was airless but if you opened windows a gale blew in. We sleep better with natural air. Small points that would not stop us staying again.

Review 106:We've stayed twice before so knew what to expect. Our family live nearby so we treat them to a superb breakfast. Staff are kind and helpful. Close to our family with a touch of luxury, what more could you ask?

Review 107:Some of the front desk staff was not very helpful.

Review 108:The location and amenities of this hotel were perfect. The food and service at the Restaurant Port was as outstanding as the view. I was able to quickly walk to the old Elbe tunnel, the ferries and the old port. The train station was very close as well. The room was lovely and towel warmer in the bathroom was a special touch!

Review 109:We didn't have breakfast at the hotel because €20 per person seemed a bit steep on top of the room rate. There were plenty of places not far from the hotel though that you could get a lovely breakfast though.

Review 110:The hotel was luxurious and just what we wanted. The room on the fourth floor in the old building was clean and really comfortable. I slept like a log, I'm a notorious bad sleeper when I stay away from home so this was a real treat! The Christmas markets were brilliant, I'm so glad to have been able to go back at this time of year. The German people are welcoming and so friendly. We had a couple of great nights out, the first in the live cooking Asian restaurant the Copper House, really yummy and a pizza in a little place called Slim Jim's. Both where within easy walking distance of the hotel. The staff in the hotel couldn't have been better, they even managed to supply a plug adapter as I'd forgotten ours. A lovely place to stay, go there!!

Review 111:There is 4 star hotel but there is no many facilities like 4 star. Just I need a power adapter 3 pin to 2 pin during a day nobody can handle that. and . . .

Review 112:No view from our bedroom.

Review 113:Ideal location, well-fitted bedroom, plenty of choice on the TV. A really good breakfast, but rather over-priced.A well placed snack bar adjoining the bar served meals all day until 23.00

Review 114:The Hotel Hafen Hamburg is a actually quite a good hotel in other respects, that offers free WiFi but doesn't advertise that it is a speed-throttled partly functional WiFi, and you have to pay extra if you want WiFi that is fully functional. What a scam! They should be ashamed.

Review 115:Very poor hotel. I have paid 10€ for internet which didn´t work. Personal was very impolite and bad. My room was very bad. This is the worst hotel in which i have ever slept. I can´t recommend it for other people!

Review 116:The 'double bed' was two singles pushed together, with a veryobvious join. Only two pillows provided. Room service fee was 10 euros, which was more than a lot of items n the menu....

Review 117:I enjoyed the fact that it was close to the harbor. We had dinner in the restaurant, which had excellent ford and overlooks the harbor. Parking was included in the hotel costs which is great for that area where parking is limited in the city

Review 118:Didn't have a kettle in the room but got it eventually. So not too bad.

Review 119:Very central in location. Landungsbruken station just a min away connecting to all underground links. 5 mins to jungfensteig. Loved the pier and the sunrise. Would def recommend this hotel.

Review 120:Maybe more things on the dinner menu but that is being super critical.

Review 121:Great location and very friendly staff. Rooms were good and comfortable. Only short train journey to centre shopping area. Many other things to do and see in walking distance. Would certainly recommend this ho

Review 122:The room was basic and it seemed that at least 2 of the stars were missing! I requested a smoking room however there wasn't an ashtray. I asked for one over the phone, went down after and hour and was promised that they would send me one upstairs which in the end I got after another hour. There weren't any bathrrobes or slippers... We asked for a coffee after breakfast at 1035 alas the kitchen was closed as we were told and we would have to go elsewhere in the cafe in the next building. We asked them to get one from there and we would pay extra but they just asked us to leave as they had to clean the table as it was reserved. I asked for a taxi and they told me to wait outside only to understand after 15 minutes that the road was closed and due to the strike (trains) no taxi would come. No one cared enough to let me know. Cosmetics is a word they don't know in the establishment however they so provide a liquid in a bottle for all purposes!!! Would never go there again plenty of choices in the town to get something more scent at the same price level.

Review 123:The location was good, the breakfast was served in a room with amazing views over the harbor.

Review 124:We drove here and parking is very limited, even in the underground car park. We were here on a public holiday however so the hotel was probably very full. Free "on street" parking and the hotel courtyard was constantly full, so you should budget for paid parking on site if you bring a car.

Review 125:It is a good hotel with pleasant, straightforward rooms. Location is superb (I know Hamburg extremely well). Price is reasonable.

Review 126:wifi didnt work for me even though the hotel provides it for free (apparently...). Can hear the metros go by.

Review 127:great breakfast, nice view, good sized room and bathroom. Very well situated near metro (S-bahn) and harbour/restaurants.

Review 128:Internet needed to be reconnected again and again Got prompt help from staff but they're all too stiff and formal, felt kind of uncomfortable around them Minimal amenities

Review 129:Beautiful view over Elbe Helpfulness of staff Within walking distance Reperbahn Three subway lines closeby Good price

Review 130:the ventilation od kitchen or what ever was so loud that i couldn`t sleep well. Even with closes widows I wasn`t able to fall asleep. after 2 oClock in the nigt it was getting less noisy.

Review 131:Room was ok, but too expensive.

Review 132:Water draining system in the shower is poor and as a result the entire shower room is flooded with water every time you are taking a shower.

Review 133:Location, staff, history and traditional marine environment and the hotel interior in marine style.

Review 134:The heat in the non air con rooms The location above the railway The poor directions given to a restaurant which got us into a dangerous situation with some rowdys.

Review 135:The tower bar - brilliant

Review 136:With the sun on the windows the rooms were way too hot to not have any air-conditioning. It was unbearable all day long to be in the room. With this in mind it was too expensive. And there was no coffee offered in the room.

Review 137:Es war eine gute Lage.
