Reviews for Hotel und Gasthof zur Sonne

Review 1:We received very personal service and effort from the owner and the staff concerning making dinner reservations on a holiday night, choosing a driving route when we left, wanting something to drink late when the restaurant was closed, and very friendly conversation with the owner, Dagmar Sackenreuther and her husband who is also the chef. We were a group of five friends, and the two rooms we occupied were large enough for us to gather together and visit. The breakfast buffet had many choices, and the two meals we ate there were delicious! American travelers should be aware that this is a "Gasthof," not a chain hotel, and every room is furnished differently and uniquely. I recommend the four-person room for only three adults if the occupants are just friends, but it would be fine for two couples or a family with two children.

Review 2:The staff does not hesitate to bang on the door every morning and ask us whether we want the towels / napkins changed. There was no "Do Not Disturb" sign in our room and we woke up to the sound of someone banging on our door on both the days. The breakfast is only till 9.30. Since some people prefer to sleep in when on vacation, the breakfast is of no value at all.

Review 3:Very good location.

Review 4:This was our second time staying at Hotel und Gasthof zur Sonne. The hotel is in a great location in the heart of the city. There is also a garage for your car which is very convenient.

Review 5:Not easy to find the parking to hotel, even they send me the map... still ask their colleagues' help drive to the hotel.

Review 6:2nd time for me to stay. Close to the plaza , easy to access . Great breakfast!

Review 7:The service at this place was top notch, very friendly and accomodating. They assisted with our luggage, parking and any questions we had. Conveniently located in a beautiful area, our night walk was magical. Dinner and breakfast were great.

Review 8:Given an attic room which had a great view but visited during a heatwave so it was unbearably hot! No air conditioning! Many steps to climb - no lift! Our older kids were a floor below (still hot there!) & were constantly disturbed by other guests returning during early hours. Small breakfast room.

Review 9:Great location close to Market Square. Traditional German furnishing. Lovely view over rooftops. There was a "Weinfest" not far away which was interesting to experience. Clean.

Review 10:An unseasonably hot August with no air conditioning. Fans were provided and made it bearable during the day.

Review 11:The owners and staff were wonderful. Superior service. Everyone was friendly and attentive. The menu was excellent. Great location, just a short walk from the city square.

Review 12:1. The offerings in the room is not worthy of such a high price. Too expensive! 2. Breakfast is simple! 3. After we moved luggage out of room, the cleaners were waiting outside. They went inside and covered their noses and waving hands, which made us feel uncomfortable! Actually we didn't think our room is smelly at all. Also, the female staff who is in charge of breakfast room is not nice to guests when we checked out.

Review 13:No air conditioning, but that seems to be the norm in most of Germany.

Review 14:Gracious hosts, excellent location only a block from main center square. Nicely appointed comfortable rooms. Nice variety at breakfast including eggs and bacon. If you have a car, ask to reserve a parking space in their private garage (10 Euros) - worth every penny - completely enclosed and secure, plenty of room to maneuver even our van.

Review 15:This was our second stay at this hotel. Just like the first time, everything worked beautifully, including the accomodation, parking, wifi, dinner, restaurant, etc. Also the owners are very service minded. And the location is just excellent!

Review 16:the staffs are so unfriendly, I have never met such unfriendly staffs in any hotels. They are restaurant waiters, therefore, they have no time to help you. 中国朋友千万不要去,不知道为什么他们真的仇视中国人,可能以前的团留下不好印象,但我们是无辜的。

Review 17:Location is fine, however, you need to take your suitcase by yourself to the hotel, no one will help. We offer 2 euro per suitcase, and they seem reluctant. There is no elevator in the hotel. You pay another 2 euro per suitcase.

Review 18:The price we paid was a bit too much for a room without a fridge or air con. I am pretty sure it was the highest that we paid during our whole trip to Germany. We were also charged 10 EUR for the parking space in a covered lot next to the hotel. It's really all about location!

Review 19:The location is excellent, just 100 meters away from the center of Rothenburg. Very nice (if somewhat basic) facilities. Nice ambience. The hotel restaurant has tables outside with a view to one of Rothenburg towers, as well as a small terrace at the backb

Review 20:The hotel is located on a narrow street. We had a hard time finding it.my husband ended up parking the car and walking to check in. The guy from the front desk walked back to car with my husband and drove us to the parking area!! Amazing customer service. We were also able to leave our car parked for the next day after we checked out while we shopped. Amazing.

Review 21:Perfect location, right in the heart of things but quiet at bedtime. The manageress and all the staff very friendly and helpful. Hotel has nice decor and spotlessly clean. Very dog friendly.

Review 22:We had a room for 3 (two adults and a teen) and it was fine. Bathroom was modern and spotless. Windows overlooked a nice, typical street of Rothenburg.

Review 23:Street noise. We were in room 1, which is in the front of building. Could hear people walking and talking late at night & early morning workers cleaning or getting ready for the day.

Review 24:Very clean, comfortable bed & delicious breakfast.

Review 25:Not really the hotel's fault, but finding the roads was not easy. My brother in law had no problem, but we made a few wrong one way turns due to small construction areas.

Review 26:Great city, tough city center parking, but the staff was very helpful. Once you find the hotel, they will help find their parking garage which is close. The rooms are clean, nice big bathroom, the staff immediately brought us floor fans as there is no AC, but the fans were great. In the middle of pretty much all you want to see.

Review 27:Unfortunately, no air conditioning (though at the time we were there, we really didn't need it), and no black-out curtains.

Review 28:The location was excellent. We had plenty of space in both the bedrooms and bathroom.

Review 29:nice, clean, updated hotel. staff very helpful. will keep your luggage for the day if you have already checked out but want to wander around town before leaving.

Review 30:I know the buildings in rothenburg are very old, so I'm sure it's quite typical- but it was quite noisy. Not even outside noise, but rather being able to hear someone sneeze at the other side of the hotel or a baby cry several rooms away. If you are noise sensitive- bring ear plugs!

Review 31:Fabulous central location, wonderful breakfast and helpful staff who spoke perfect English.

Review 32:price...but you are paying for the location.

Review 33:LOCATION LOCATION ! Very clean and friendly staff. Basic hotel rooms. Parking near by..Ask them for details on where to park.

Review 34:"Room for 4"? Not even close Horrible lighting in room Uncomfortable bed Staff (hotel, restaurant) acted put out, not pleasant

Review 35:Great location Great price, if you don't mind mediocre lodging

Review 36:We didn't like it that we were there but one day and one night!

Review 37:We had a wonderful visit to Rothenburg, made more so by Gasthof zur Sonne. We had dinner there, and enjoyed the roast goose very much. When we got to Nuremburg, we wished we were back in Rothenburg.

Review 38:Hotel parking is not free for guests and costs Euro 10.00/day in this congested town.

Review 39:The very central location only a few minutes by foot to most tourist attractions. The excellent kitchen: great preparation and presentation coupled with a good choice of wines and attentive service. Tables set up in the street add to the romantic setting. The hotel location is surprisingly quiet during evening hours. The hotel staff is courteous and very helpful.

Review 40:The address mentions only Hafengasse, which is not accessible by car. You should also mention Brudergässchen, where the backside entry and the garage can be reached.

Review 41:Hotel in center with garage VERY friendly and competent staff Excellent restaurant The SUN as main decoration theme everywhere - even an abundant supply of sunflower pits at breakfast.

Review 42:The house in Rothernburg looks similar we are confused about the way to the hotel. It's on a street forbidden cars, you need come to hotel and ask staff guide you to to private parking in their back yard. We don't know this and it's not listed on confirmation , better send message to your guest in advance, at least to those who left the msg to book the parking like me.

Review 43:The staff is very helpful, he guide us to private parking and help me fill hot water just when he saw me with two vacuum cups , I even didn't speak a word. The room is clear, the bathroom is big. We can see the yard through our window, it's not face to the street but still well designed. the canteen downstairs looks nice, we wish we had a meal there. maybe try next time.

Review 44:No elevator, but the clerks helped to bring up the luggage.

Review 45:Location - good and bad. In the old town center which means it'svery close to the attractions. However I was carrying my heavy suitcaseand it was terrible to roll the suitcase on the stone roads all theway...clerks were very nice and kind. And the dishes were great ! I haveto say that it was the best I had in Rothernburg during my 3-day stay!!!

Review 46:Hotel is located in the pedestrian area of Rothenburg - within walking distance of all the sights! Hotel was clean the breakfast offered was very good! I would stay at this Hotel again

Review 47:Difficult to drive to the first time (There is no street sign for Milchstrasse) and the exact location of garage was hard to find. We were saved by a passing staff member who kindly led us to the garage ad helped with suitcases.

Review 48:Good food, wonderful location, very helpful staff, very clean, parking available and is a must if you stay in the walled city.

Review 49:The hotel is updated inside and very comfortable. Dagmar was extremely helpful, even driving with us to the hotel's garage and insisting on carrying our luggage. The restaurant on the main floor had a good dinner selection.

Review 50:So friendly and helpful, they even parked our car for us each day when we got back in from sightseeing. Great value for money and the location is perfect.

Review 51:No elevator. Our room was on the top floor but staff carried our luggage to the room.

Review 52:Hotel was exceptionally clean in a nice location close to main attractions. Good breakfast.

Review 53:The staff was super. The owner walked three blocks to my car to help guide me to their garage parking. The bar keeper allowed us to bring our beers to the room when it started to rain. The breakfast western/European.

Review 54:- a bit loud in the night wenn someone speaking corridor

Review 55:+ location. Very close to the city center, less than 50m + room is clean and tidy + wifi works very fine with kabel deutschland. Surf without latency + price performance ratio

Review 56:Outside of the restaurants which don't really stay open too late there is no real bars or night life.

Review 57:Rooms spotless well sized & the staff were pleasant .Good breakfast buffet.couldn't fault it at all.

Review 58:The breakfast is not that big, not that many options, we have seen families complaning about it, but, honestly, it is enough ... good food, eat it and go have fun in Rothenburg.

Review 59:We were there just for one night, but we like it very much. The hotel team is very nice and polite. It is located in a very central area and they have a very nice parking place.

Review 60:a little noise outside. hot as no fan or air conditioner

Review 61:very kind and helpful staff and owner. Who helped me solved my car stuck problem inside garage . Thanks a lot!

Review 62:stairs to get to room

Review 63:great location less then a block from the middle of town and start of all the tours. excellent breakfast, very nice rooms, super to have parking in the middle of town

Review 64:Restaurant expensive for what is offered.

Review 65:Quiet at night, full service restaurant, parking available on site.\Centre of village, good sized room for double room,

Review 66:Not having internet in our room was disappointing. We had to go down to the lobby which was a pain when we wanted to spend time posting photos, catching up on email, etc.

Review 67:The staff could not have been more helpful and responsive!! Parking was a huge benefit and the manager walked us over to show us how to get in and our of the garage so we could access the car as often as we wanted. We couldn't get internet in our room so a staff person immediately came up to our room to help us. Another staff person helped me program my GPS when I couldn't understand the German address. Breakfast was delicious. We really felt taken care of during our stay!

Review 68:Breakfast is not enough compare to the number of guest. There should have fried egg and sausage. Parking is quite complicated, however, the staff will give you a hand.

Review 69:The location is very good but hard to access by car.

Review 70:The bed was a little hard.

Review 71:The staff was very helpful, breakfast delicious with fresh eggs and cheese/ cold cuts. The room was clean and the bathroom very nice.

Review 72:The hotel is in a great location in the inner old city very close to the market plaza and Rathaus. They have indoor secure parking for your car. They are easy to reach and to exit the city. Room and food was very good.

Review 73:- initially finding the hotel; Driving anywhere in Rothenberg is a challenge, call ahead and arrange for a staff member to meet and guide you to the garage.

Review 74:- location is ideal - private garage is a must - staff was friendly, accommodating, and extremely helpful - great restaurant on site
