Reviews for A&O Hamburg Reeperbahn
Review 1:The bar was closed. The room (especially the en-suite bathroom) was quite dirty and smelled funny. The TV is hanging too high and you could not change/ adjust the angle of it to being able to watch TV while lying in bed or sitting at the table. It was only possible while sitting on the far side of the bed.
Review 2:Great location - right in the center of the party district St Pauli. Check out until 11 am on weekends is also very nice.
Review 3:The building seriously requires renovation. Showers switched from boiling hot to cold and back again. The surrounding is noisy and the walls are thin.
Review 4:The staff was friendly and helpful.
Review 5:The reception, the location. The hotel looked desorganized, the recepcionist was rude. And, the most important issue: very expensive for the experience
Review 6:The shower
Review 7:They have a minimum staff. One Friday night, It was 2am and j guess there was football match. There was a group of guys in my hallway shouting and shouting. I didn't think much of it until they stopped shouting. At 3am, two of them were knocking on my door and trying to kick it down. I tried calling the reception for help because I didn't want to open the door, just incase they might do something to me, but only routed me to their 'booking' services. The next morning I told the receptionist what happened, and he replied as if that happens regularly because of the area the hotel was in and having so many drunk people. I don't think that's a good excuse for having terrible service. WORST HOTEL EVER. Don't stay here
Review 8:Cheap hotel but don't expect much.
Review 9:We paid for our accommodation by credit card - there was 3 € fee for paying by card! I understand guests must pay for parking and breakfast, this is almost in every hostel/hotel but this fee is just funny. Although the room was clean, the bathroom wasn't so. In the shower there was a black mould on the wall and on the window, and next to the basin there was a dirty wall, like spilt by coffee.
Review 10:If you're not scared of houses offering girls and sex (which are everywhere around the hotel), the location is absolutely great. Very close to the river and the centre. Our purpose of trip was a concert in the Rock Cafe St. Pauli, and this club is only 2 mins far away from the hostel, so great for the location - thumbs up. We arrived in 4.30 am so I expected tired and grumpy reception but the guy there was really nice a helpful. The room was clean, beds comfortable.
Review 11:General maintenance was very poor; electrical sockets either did not work or were very loose, and the housing for the door handle was coming off. The pass given for parking did not work, and we had to be let in by the receptionist manually. Free wifi was not offered when we asked for the access code (we were offered a high speed connection for 5 euro, only to find out that a free connection was available after we had paid).
Review 12:Room had a lock, a pair of beds, and a door.
Review 13:great place well situated for the nightlife, smack in the middle of the reeperbahn clean place basic accommodation but its a hostel ,just what you expect friendly staff.will book for next year as well.
Review 14:Rooms could use some maintenance, floors are not level, consequently my bed was also not level, at times my legs felt as if they would roll out of the bed.
Review 15:Location is quite convenient, many bars and restaurants around (FYI, the reeperbahn is the red light district of Hamburg). The hotel has onsite parking at 8.50 a day, which is convenient. Street parking is free, but limited. Overall attitude of the staff was reasonable. It is definitely more of a hostel than a hotel, you need to get clean towels at the front desk. Overall decent experience considering the price.
Review 16:After staying at this property off and on for over 25 years, and praising the basic but adequate facilities to everyone who would listen, particularly the powerful showers,I was disappointed with my room this time. The shower in room 1308 barely trickled out, likewise the taps in the bathroom were the same, and the sink in the bathroom took an age to drain, annoying when shaving and cleaning teeth.
Review 17:Excellent location ,for stag do's/groups etc,on Reeperbahn within easy reach of all the attractions of the local area. 200m from u-bahn station, with direct trains to the airport and city centre
Review 18:We booked the room for €63 and when we arrived they charged €67. The door of the room was broken and there was a hole on the door's toilet. Too expensive for a super simple room.
Review 19:The location is good when you want to enjoy nightlife.
Review 20:The bed was horrible, the spring hurt my back. The so-called double bed (two singles combined) kept shifting apart. The bathroom door did not lock or close fully.
Review 21:The hotel was near the metro system. The area was probably not the safest but definitely the most active both day and night.
Review 22:Room was very basic but clean. Definitely not for people that want a quiet weekend and the bed, for what i paid (£50 a night) was a joke - i've seen stools that are wider. Also you get the option to pay £7.50 for a later checkout (3 hours) but this is ignored by the cleaners (i had 3 knocks on the door). I don't recommend this place. Terrible shower as well.
Review 23:Smears of dead insects on the wall very thin door (would not leave valuable things inside the room) for free wifi you have to give your e-mail adress
Review 24:location right in the heart of St. Pauli but still quiet at night the price for what you get is good good for backpacker and young adults
Review 25:Everythink
Review 26:Yhe place is unconfortable ,dirty and any facilty in the rooms the furnitures in the rooms are very old and the the badroom sink discussing for the 58 euro i paid i could have got better other place even for a les price ,and as i member of treap adviser i will write a big report about it.
Review 27:The hostel needs some renovation. But it would be ok if it was clean. However, on our first night there I found a cockroach INSIDE my bed. They also say they check the room daily, but not even our bin was emptied...
Review 28:The location and the price. I was also positively susprised by the fact that, despite being so near to the busy Reeperbahn, it was a quiet place.
Review 29:The hostel is clean; they give you fresh towels and sheets and it's close to the T-bhan. The problem is the street where it's located: full of noises, drunk people and homeless.
Review 30:Room was tiny & smelt musty with paint chipping off walls. Bed had a lumpy springy mattress that pocked in my back
Review 31:Room was clean & good ensuite Location wasn't as rough as first expected & very convenient to transport n harbour etc
Review 32:Stayed for 3 nights but didn't have our room cleaned or bins emptied whole we were there.
Review 33:Good location on the Reeperbahn. Close to restaurants, cafes and shops and s Bahn stop.
Review 34:Sticky floors. Paper walls. Jammed sink. No additional electricity sockets (need to charge one phone in the bathroom). On top of that we were charged ~4 euros more than the sum in the booking. If this was some tourist fee, it was not indicated in the booking info.
Review 35:Location actually is the only one thing
Review 36:Staff were rude and very unhelpful. It is extremely difficult to find the place when on Reeperbahn, no signs! There was used chewing gum in my bed. The paid wifi was very for poor considering you had to pay 5€. No hot water in shower
Review 37:Location was very good
Review 38:Too many kids/teens running around. Should be adults only in that location!
Review 39:Location can't be beat! Staff great and WiFi excellent. Loved my room overlooking reeperbahn!
Review 40:General decor is run down, missing curtains, missing remote control, TV in room badly positioned. towards end of the week is loud in the area. Impressionable children should not be allowed out at night. Not the Hostels fault The City of Hamburg Need to spend some Money washing/disinfecting the public pavement in the local area, in summer they stink
Review 41:24 Hour reception, easy to get to (200m from Reeperbahn Station) Price
Review 42:nothing
Review 43:location perfect for stag weekend, numerous bars and clubs within walking distance.€3 on train direct from airport to Reeperbahn station,200 yards from hotel.pleasant staff, value for money, bed and shower good, breakfast €7 extra, wifi fine.
Review 44:The rooms are small, however, for a short stay like mine, very comfortable and practical! And great value for money.
Review 45:The staff were very friendly and helped any way they could!
Review 46:Facilities were poor, e.g. our key cards did not work at first. Then when entering our 6 bed room, the bunk beds were dangerously broken. We informed the staff and they didn't take any action.
Review 47:Location if you want to be in near the circus
Review 48:Not a great sight when I left the train station to find strip clubs right at the hotel but it's a very short walk from everything else
Review 49:Price was good free wifi was good staff were friendly
Review 50:The breakfast could of been a little better. no hot food to choose from, however the continental did the job. had to make up our own beds, and the pillows were terrible.
Review 51:This hotel is perfect for Stag or hen weekends. Location is brilliant. The staff are very helpful. Not too far away from the airport, around 30 Euro in a taxi. I had a group of 15 lads and everything went very smoothly. would book again. not advisable for couples however. It is a bit noisy, with all the partying going off.
Review 52:- Bad (or, rather none) wifi in certain parts of the hotel
Review 53:- Very close to an S-Bahn station (very useful with heavy baggage) - Luggage storage facilities
Review 54:The main issue here is the lack of elevator and the high possibility of having drunken crazy roommates.
Review 55:It's located in the street with all the bars and strip clubs So if party is your interest this hotel/hostel is perfect. The bathroom is decent; cleaned daily. The bed is comfortable and you have a nice locker.
Review 56:Very expensive for almost nothing. All you get is a bed and a very old shower. and only free WiFi in the lobby. I'm sure i could have found a way better hotel for that price. That looked more like a motel instead of a hotel.
Review 57:Fast WiFi in the lobby , rooms are clean (except the very old & dirty bathroom).
Review 58:there was much noise on the ground floor, and on 7 am in the morning noisy cleaning staff with loud trolley :-(
Review 59:good breakfast and location, nice staff
Review 60:If next room is too noisy, sounds can be heard a little.
Review 61:Best breakfast ever seen in a hostel. I stayed in a single room during the weekdays, the room is very comfortable, not that much noisy, bathroom is clean. Wifi worked also very well. Subway station is only 1-2 min walk. Reception (especially the ukranian) was very helpful.
Review 62:- At night from Saturday to Sunday it was extremely loud in the hostel corridors as many people have been going out and returning from Reeperbahn. Nevertheless, the day after was way better, so I reckon it is an issue observed only on Fridays and Saturdays when nightlife at the vicinity reaches a peak...
Review 63:- Location: Not far away from the Riverside, the City centre or St.Pauli and Schanzenviertel (mostly walking distances) - Room: simple but clean
Review 64:didn't change bedding or towels,no room for clothing to hang up,room very small.at over £320 for the room for 3 nights no breakfast is a bit expensive
Review 65:well situated
Review 66:We came for New Year's Eve and so the price was a lot more than usual! We didn't stay in the hotel for long as we had a party booked but everything was good but basic
Review 67:The Room door handle was broken and there is no lock for the Bathroom door which means you can not lock the door from inside and anybody can walk-in on you while doing your business in there!!!! The area is really dirty and can be dangerous. you are better off paying a little bet more and staying in a nearby Hostel in a better Neighborhood because Hamburg is a beautiful and vibrant city and this part of town does not represent Hamburg very well.
Review 68:Right next to the S Bahn Reeperbahn Station and in the middle of the Red Light District. It is very cheap but surprisingly modest and very spacious.
Review 69:Could be cleaner, esp. in shared areas. Cosmetic renovation needed.
Review 70:Flexible problem solving (they did not have a room with bathroom as booked but offered great price for room with shared bathroom). Good location, full of spots for dinner, beer and entertainment.
Review 71:We had a few problems with the card key system, our cards kept on having to be reactivated at reception, but other than that no problems. You get what you pay, bed, shower, good location. Very good value for your money.
Review 72:Hotel is ideally placed for a short break for a group of "lads",ie stag "do" . It is situated on the Reeperbahn ,where there are numerous bars, clubs, shows, fast food outlets etc etc. The area is extremely busy until the early hours especially Friday's and Saturday's. Other nights are quieter.Hotel serves a buffet style breakfast for an additional €7,payable at reception, which is good value as you can eat as much as you like.Hotel is situated approx 200m from an underground station which connects with the main train station and also Hamburg airport.
Review 73:Was on a stag night and wanted to stay near the Reeperbahn , hotel location is excellent for this. Facilities are fair and what we expected for a hostel. Pool table , bar , atm etc
Review 74:This is exactly what I expexted, a hostel! Good facilities ie.. Bar, pool table etc, the location is perfect for the Reeperbahn visit .. So overall most definitely value for money !
Review 75:I was not able to sleep the whole night because of noise of the people inside the hotel as well as outside traffic. People inside the hotel were making a lot of noise even after 3:00AM. I ll never stay there again.
Review 76:Nothing Positive. It was like a nightmare.
Review 77:The hostel is a bit noisy and I did not use the common bathroom at all except for the toilet. The showers were dirty and stinky.
Review 78:If you want to go for a concert in the neighborhood, it is a good place to stay. It is also easy to get to the place.
Review 79:I didn't think it'll be very noisy and my room looked red at night due to the neon lights outside my place. The hotel was old, but fairly clean.
Review 80:It was ok for just one night.
Review 81:they didnt RSVP My parking even when I asked for it. The clerk wanted me to park on the Reeperbahn. I paid late check out and even placed the paper on the door, the cleaning staff walked in at 10am and woke me up of course
Review 82:location cheap beds were clean
Review 83:Dirty, really small room, small bed, they charged my credit card at the checkin, even though I explained that my card details are already with booking.com...
Review 84:Location
Review 85:The location, the quality of the matress, the broken shower, the floor and walls were dirty, for 3 days the sheets were not changed or the towels, too expensive.
Review 86:Depending on where your room is this IS the noisiest hotel I've ever stayed in. Yes, its on the reeperbahn and the place is meant to be for partying but the way the hotel is laid out there's no escaping the noise from within the hotel.
Review 87:Location was excellent.
Review 88:Reeperbahn is a very noisy street No Wifi access in rooms on 4th floor
Review 89:Short distance from train station & Hamburg Messe Very friendly & helpful staff Affordable rooms Free wifi in lobby
Review 90:Hotel looks like ramainigs of some old jail or hospital. Verry unhigienic common space, flors, bathrooms, tolites. Watter spills and small insects crawling arround. Worst experience I had in years was in this hotel from 7.9. - 12.9.2014, there were no cold water under shower for 4 days, I placed complain every day at the reception and was denied by staff with sentace "we cant do anything about it". I was in Hamburg as an IT consultant for a large German company and experience in this hotel really got me great discomfort. 4th day I took shower with wather over 80°C and had to shower my bodi partially so the other body parts could cool down. on last night I recieved "new room" in other part of hotel, which seemed to have cold water but this room was 2x2m in firts flor, 1m above a night club. Up to 4AM it was inposible to sleep. I would not recomend this hotel to a non-student, non-pary animall ony any other normal working people.
Review 91:hotel location is ok. you can easilly get food, fun or a drink in the bar. a lot of tourists... Solid breakfast in hotel.
Review 92:Never enough People on reception. My sink was filthy. No-one serving the "bar" (such as it was). Reception refused to get me a taxi when I checked out, vaguely pointing towards a taxi rank on the Reeperbahn where I waited 25 minutes for a taxi to appear.
Review 93:Absolutely nothing!
Review 94:Cheap rooms,great location.clean and tidy room
Review 95:This hostel is perfect for our stag do we had double rooms with bathrooms and showers.rooms were clean and all we could of asked for
Review 96:No daily cleaning in the rooms nor in toilets and showers! Disgusting! Extra charges at the check-in. No VAT invoice next day.
Review 97:Close to the City Centre, at the heart of St.Pauli (perfect for weekend fun)
Review 98:Location - dirty streets, lot of homeless people lying on the street, high concentration of sex shops/bars/cinemas=lots of weird individuals. We did not feel safe. Room - too small, the door looked like somebody already tried to get in. We stayed in the hotel but felt like in a hostel. Actually, this hotel and hostel are in the same building.
Review 99:If you are interested in sextoys - good choice - plenty of sexshops and brothels nearby :)
Review 100:I paid for late checkout but the cleaning staff banged on my door and woke me up even though there was a do not disturb sign The key card became non operational even though I had a late checkout in the system No elevator
Review 101:The front desk refunded me the late checkout fee after I was disturbed and the key stopped working (which they fixed) Great all you can eat breakfast
Review 102:Not very clean (I found a lighter under the bed) Paid Wifi Staff not very friendly
Review 103:Parking (could be cheaper) Location
Review 104:Staff Politeness and Management
Review 105:Wifi quality pretty bad in the groundfloor room area
Review 106:Nice central location
Review 107:noisy, in the center of "red district", a lot of drunk men.
Review 108:not far from the city center
Review 109:I had a single room and it was simple but very clean and for the low price really great!
Review 110:I really advise Booking to remove this hotel from its recommending list. Everything bad.
Review 111:In the middle of Reeperbahn
Review 112:In the middle of Reeperbahn.
Review 113:Noisy outside room window
Review 114:All very easy nice experience
Review 115:The shared shower takes forever to get hot water.
Review 116:I liked that there is a sink inside the room.
Review 117:To noicy
