Reviews for Historik Hotel Goldener Hirsch Rothenburg
Review 1:Carpets could be replaced but don't let that stop you from visiting this wonderful hotel in this charming city.
Review 2:Charming old hotel in the heart of the city with great view of the valley. Comfortable and spacious room, nice breakfast served in dining room with valley view. Wish we could have stayed longer. Highly recommended.
Review 3:The price per night and also the fact that the parking wasn't included (6€ per night).
Review 4:We really enjoyed our weekend in Rothenburg and we believe we picked the best hotel. The hotel is very welcoming with an atmosphere matching the old city style. The room we stayed in was very big and confortable. The breakfast room is beautiful, with a really nice view over the town wall and the food choice was more than enough. My husband is celiac and the staff arranged gluten free bread for him. There is also a game room for the guests, we really had a lot of fun there.
Review 5:It isn't a bad experience, it is just that wi-fi is not available in the guest house section. But we managed. Since the twin beds are put together to make a double bed, my side had a slight depression on the outer part, that I felt I could probably roll off when I sleep, but I managed by sleeping towards the middle half section of the bed. Other than that, I slept fine.
Review 6:We stayed in the guest house across the street. It is the street that is pictured typically first if you google it. And for me, it is an iconic photo, because it was inspiration to Pinocchio! Loved the location! Breakfast was wonderful! Loved the hotel despite a few blips.
Review 7:Keep in mind if you have never been to Rothenburg, everything is very old and even though these accommodations are wonderful, you have to be flexible. Our "shower" was a tub with a partial "wall"... almost impossible to shower and not flood the bathroom. BUT, that was also what made it charming. If you have a car, be prepared to wind through tiny, crowded streets to park at the hotel. Again, it's about being flexible and enjoying what it is. Our reservation was written down in a book... with a pencil. In a book. (-:
Review 8:The location is wonderful- right in the middle of the walled part of town. We had a 2 bedroom suite with shared bath. Breakfast was very good and generous. The beds were comfortable and we slept well. The views are amazing! We would stay again.
Review 9:However, the staff was not very friendly/helpful--perhaps it was Christmas time and Rothenburg is very crowded during this time.
Review 10:The location was very convenient and breakfast was good. The view from our room was amazing!
Review 11:Nothing
Review 12:Beautiful hotel. Loved the extra touches like a cell phone to use as needed, rubber ducky in bathroom, and a teddy bear on the extra bed. Sweet touches.
Review 13:Reservation for four ppl; didnt realize was only 3 beds and a sofa; the sofa didnt get propper bedding. Wifi only in lobby
Review 14:Location! Very pretty building with adequate interior
Review 15:We have one day in the hotel during the sinterklass. AND FEEL DISAPPOINTED.The room is an economy room, but however it is not in the main building!!!!! It was located in another small building arround 50meter away from the main building!!!! and NO INTERNET!!!! And the room is also dark with fairy old equipment. THE STAFF IS ALSO NOT HELPFUL. We were firtst come by the reception, the staff is arrogant and unhelpful. Do not give and information about the tourist guide and breakfast. After 3 times of question, the man finally give us the information of the breakfast time...And really dont think this hotel can worth more than 100 euro per night for such bad service!!!!!
Review 16:location is ok.
Review 17:The staff wasn't very friendly. They had housekeeping check us out in the morning and they were rude.
Review 18:We liked the location, the breakfast in the morning was amazing and the hotel room was very nice.
Review 19:Excellent location, very clean rooms with spacious modern bathroom, very good breakfast with variaty served in a room with great view, friendly staff, private Parking!
Review 20:The furniture in our room was old, and I don't mean antique; just old. It might just have been our room as it was located in the back of the hotel.
Review 21:A historic hotel in a beautifull town. The view from our room and the restaurant is incredible. We got large room with an extra room for my daughter, which was very convenient.
Review 22:We were out in the annex which is across the street, and does not have wi/fi.So you had to walk across the street . Plus they had a whole bus load that had to leave early. Which woke up the whole place. All the early leavers should have been on lower levels.
Review 23:It is in a nice location inside the towns walls.Great view from the breakfast area.
Review 24:wonderful, quaint, old hotel filled with history and located in the prime part of Rothenburg. The hotel has all conveniences for the traveler and a wonderful private parking space. Breakfast was diverse and good.
Review 25:Found nothing not to like about this hotel!
Review 26:Staff excellent. Received free upgrade for all 3 rooms I booked which was amazing! Great hotel full of character and areas to lounge about in. The big wow factor is the view from the breakfast room. Stunning! Looks out over the Tauber Valley and the old city wall. Breakfast was excellent with a small hot buffet section. Would definitely stay again and recommend this hotel. Additional bonus is parking available at small charge.
Review 27:Near to the town center and within the inner of the city wall. Interior design is classic and nice. There is a private car garage too, convenient for who is driving there.
Review 28:Hotel main areas are interesting but a bit dark and dreary. Could be brightened up and would probably be used more. Staff was polite but not the most friendly.
Review 29:Location was fantastic - within the walls of this great city and just a couple of blocks from the main town square. Room size was huge and very comfortable. Huge bathroom suite. Great breakfast buffet. Convenient private parking lot about 1 block away.
Review 30:Comfortable room for 3 people, modern bathroom and great location. Game room with pool table, et al was a big plus with a teenager. Reception area and its amenities inviting.
Review 31:The Hotel Goldener Hirsch is in the center of the old town and within walking distance of all the important sites within Rothenburg. The staff was very helpful and friendly, the breakfast buffet was wonderful and the room was nicely appointed with a beautiful view of the valley. Great value.
Review 32:The weakness of the internet reception within the room for performing some work reports during our stay.
Review 33:Newly remodeled room - spacious, well lite, comfortably furnished - great breakfast room with views..... one of our favorite hotels in Germany.
Review 34:This is a great hotel with fantastic location which made us feel like living in fairytale. Even when you have the breakfast you will have a wonderful view.
Review 35:Of the three staff encountered, two were very brusque and unaccommodating, one was very helpful.
Review 36:Grand old hotel, beautiful dining room with a great breakfast. Nice room with a beautiful view.
Review 37:Location can't be beat! upgraded to valley view which was lovely....as you wind your way along the cobbled roads into town, through gates which were not intended for motor vehicles, You can understand why visitors recommend this town! The hotel is in a great location!! Breakfast was good and served in a lovely room overlooking the valley. Rooms are quirky but not in a bad way. Bed very comfortable...one of the two sinks in the room would only produce very hot water and one of the bulbs in my mother's room was out, but these things were easily remedied. We arrived quite late and there were no restaurants open..and the staff had wine or cocktails available in the atmospheric sitting area, so we could have wine, cheese and bread before turning in...
Review 38:Initially they didn't find my reservation, so put me across the street. The rooms there aren't as nice and no wifi. Luckily they needed that room to keep a large group together and I was moved to the main hotel.
Review 39:Wonderful location. Beautiful view from the Breakfast room. Loved having a sitting space, too!
Review 40:I felt for the price of the room parking should have been included. Would have liked a mini fridge in room for water etc.
Review 41:The Location of the Hotel is Perfect. Staff were really friendly and helpfull. Breakfast was good and views are lovely. Kids were very welcome and enjoyed playing air hockey and fussball. Room was big and clean albeit slightly strangely decorated. The whole hotel was a mish mash of interior design but it kind of works and feels homely. Parking was 6 euro per night.
Review 42:Instead of real double bed they offered two twin beds gathered in one, it was quite uncomfortable. The staff is not good enough. We had really helpful and friendly guy on reception desk during the nigh time and absolutely rude and unfriendly service during the day time.
Review 43:Location is wonderful as well as the valley view.
Review 44:Nice historic hotel (love the decoration)located in the heart of the old town. Very pleased with myself to have switched our stay from Nordingen to Rothenburg. Lovely restaurant for breakfast, the view from the window is magnificant, also lots of variety for breakfast. spacious & secure parking (14 Euro per night)
Review 45:Room was in another building across the road, which was fine except for the fact it did not have wifi and the advertised free wifi in rooms was one of my reasons for booking the hotel.
Review 46:Great location and breakfast. Helpful staff.
Review 47:There is another banner at the other side of the street, taking us a little time to find the entrance. Just follow the address and it's easy.
Review 48:Just next to the famous Proelein. Free Wifi is available in private rooms, very nice! Beautiful view from the restaurant window.
Review 49:This was by far the most disappointing booking.com experience I have ever had as the vendor surcharged me twice because I used the site rather than him directly. My husband and I thought to stay the night after touring the town and searched on booking.com for rooms for 2 near us and the closest was this place but listed an Economy Single Room. I started the booking online but visited the vendor to show him the online description to be sure it was correct. He let me see the room and I finished the booking.com reservation. But then he became upset and made me pay two additional fees, criticizing me for not purchasing from him directly instead of through booking.com.
Review 50:Location terrific.
Review 51:The hotel shows its age in some places and could probably use some new clean linens and carpets to take it to the next level.
Review 52:Fantastic location right in the heart of Rothenburg. A classic old world European hotel with amble charm and character.
Review 53:It is some distance from Munich. Had to drag bag some distance from train station to bus station. Room has no kettle but could get hot water from the restaurant.
Review 54:It's warm & cozy. Free drinks from the fridge.
Review 55:Nothing.
Review 56:Thank you so very much for the most wonderful stay at your elegant hotel. The breakfast was superb. We enjoyed everything and will stay again. Ruth
Review 57:nothing I highly recommend this hotel
Review 58:good location spacious parking lot antique interior nice facilities (especially bathroom) comfort bed excellent view of restaurant
Review 59:Firm beds and WiFi coverage.
Review 60:The staff was professional and friendly, we were there for 3 days and everyone made us feel welcomed. Breakfast was the usual selection and the breakfast room is beautiful. The hotel has 3 public rooms so there is space if you do not want to sit in your room. The location is great for exploring Rothenburg, you will do a great deal of walking and there are hills. We had a quad room because I decided to extend our stay so we could enjoy the festival, we had more room than we needed but it was nice to spread out since many rooms in Germany are on the small side. We could watch the festival fireworks out our window.
Review 61:Location was excellent! Excellent Breakfast included. We stayed 2 nights but had to leave very early the second morning (before breakfast hours) and the staff OFFERED to make a "to-go" breakfast for us to take along.
Review 62:Showers were a little odd in some rooms and you have to get a new wifi login every 24 hours.
Review 63:Great value for the cost. Breakfast included, centrally located to the heart of the town. Clean rooms, free wifi, nice staff, very easy to deal with.
Review 64:Excellent locaton and our room was exceptional, with a view over the valley. Breakfast was very good; enjoyed cappucinos as well. Would definitely recommend to friends.
Review 65:The room was a bit cool at night, bed sheets were still summer sheets.
Review 66:Location is right in the heart of Rothenburg, couldn't get closer. Perfect :-) Breakfasrt buffet was fantastic, more than enough to choose from. Friendly helpful staff. Comfortable and got a good nights sleep.
Review 67:No A/C. Bathroom needs updated.
Review 68:Great location in the middle of old town. View from our room overlooking the valley was awesome! Staff was friendly and courtious. Great breakfast. Parking was well worth the price.
Review 69:Hairdryer could be better but nothing really.
Review 70:Location within city walls. Historic hotel (we enjoyed Willy Brandt's room) , recently refurbished- nice bathroom. Good breakfast.
Review 71:Private parking is in the next street, but close enough (1 minute by walk).
Review 72:The hotel interior is like in a museum. Everything is old or old style and beutiful. Staff are nice and helpful.
Review 73:Nothing of note.
Review 74:Fantastic historical hotel with many interesting rooms. Exceptional view from terrace restaurant. Great breakfast, convenient car parking.
Review 75:We stayed in the guest house Plonlein, which is just down across the street from the main hotel. It was a nice accommodation, but to get wifi you had to go to main hotel lobby, as there was none in the guest house. Not terrible, just a little inconvenient.
Review 76:Great location to market square, lovely town, great history. Staff was very nice.
Review 77:Driving with a big car to the hotel is a little tricky on the narrow roads crowded with people (but it's thankfully close to the entrance into the inner walled city), bed was a little too firm for my tastes, room claimed it had AC but we could not get it to turn on, wifi was slow and flickering
Review 78:Beautiful location right in Rothenburg, building, front, and side rooms had pretty decorations and atmosphere, cheap and reasonably spaced parking available for hotel guests, first 24 hours of free wifi, friendly and helpful staff, breakfast buffet included in room price, room upgrade with a view of the valley was lovely, request for a quiet room was fulfilled with a very quiet part of the hotel
Review 79:Our first night's stay was in the annexe to the hotel which is across the road from the main hotel and far inferior in quality to the main hotel.
Review 80:Rothenberg is a beautiful medieval town and this hotel is ideally situated within it. The hotel building exudes character, style and charm. The quality of the service matches this. We booked through Booking.com and were placed in the hotel annexe, which is far inferior in quality to the main hotel. Consequently our room did not match what we had expected from the pictures and the descriptions on the web site. We mentioned this to the hotel manager/ owner after our first night and she upgraded us, free of charge, to a beautiful room in the main hotel for our next two nights. She turned what could have been a disappointing experience into an unexpectedly pleasant one.
Review 81:Charming place to stay. The location was great and easy to find. The parking is close as well. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We loved their breakfast too.
Review 82:The guest house isn't the same standard as the main hotel and doesn't have wifi.
Review 83:Excellent location in the old centre and a historic building, which made it a special stay. The breakfast was lovely.
Review 84:I booked this hotel because it has air-conditioning. I can't accept it didn't work because the temperature was below a certain degree. I do stayed in several hotels in Germany with good air-conditioning system during my trip. What a pity that I had to borrow a fan and turn it on during the night in this hotel.
Review 85:No air conditioning
Review 86:We travel a lot and this was one of the best experiences we have had. Delicious gourmet breakfast included, we had the best view of the city from our balcony. Front desk manager was fantastic!! Very accommodating, helpful and friendly!! Beautiful hotel! Prince and princesses stayed in some of these rooms. Would come back for sure:)
Review 87:The wifi didn't work in the guesthouse but not really a problem as we popped over to main hotel to use it there.
Review 88:Fab location, friendly staff, quiet room and breakfast room with a lovely view! Off road parking. Lots of little extras which gave a special feel to the hotel.
Review 89:The beds were single little beds for three people.
Review 90:The location was perfect. We liked the fact that it was in the center of town, and we requested for the quiet room. The breakfast was amazing. It was very pet friendly.
Review 91:We had a roomy triple room #209 and it was everything we could have hoped for. The view overlooking the street was indescribably charming. Our beds were cozy and the bathroom sparkling clean. The hotel was beautiful and full of antiques with many private sitting areas to enjoy quiet time. We have been in Europe for three weeks and this was the finest hotel we've stayed in. The price was beyond reasonable. Thank you, Goldener Hirsch
Review 92:Air conditioned was broken in the whole hotel and it was a very hot period!
Review 93:Positioned in the heart of Rothenburg. Free private car parking 50 m from the hotel. Very nice hotel and rooms.
Review 94:Pillows uncomfortable and service at breakfast slow due to only one staff member to cover reception and breakfast.
Review 95:Excellent location against old town wall on main street.convenient parking and old fashion style decor and furnishings.
Review 96:They have Airconditioning and the scenery was beautiful from the room. Nice staff and very nice breakfast. I would definately take my family here again.
Review 97:Needing to leave back to the states.
Review 98:Great location, staff very helpful and parking for only 6 euros pet day. Good breakfast and a a/c that really works.
Review 99:No AC, Wifi only in lobby, complimentary rubber duck in the bathroom had been used before ... was filled with water and soap ... to our children's despair when they would take a bathe.
Review 100:Location, location, location ..... Nice hotel in the middle of town. The atmosphere and the breakfast room was magic, great view! Private parking (costs extra). Great starting point to see and enjoy the city.
Review 101:The breakfast! Oh my. It was 2 days of the most boring, lack luster, unimaginative meal I have ever had. All there seemed to be is the run of the mill grocery store cheese and meat out of packages & white buns. Sure there were eggs and sausages, but it all was served with no heart and like an after thought. They need someone in the kitchen who has been trained to produce food with flair! Due to the traffic of guests there seemed to be chaos, missing items and no space in the small serving area. German breakfasts can be so interesting if you try a little. We prefer regional specialties and there are dozens of bakeries and butchers in the neighbourhood. Having just come from a hotel in the Spreewald, we were a bit spoilt maybe? The only thing truly fabulous was the coffee and of course the view in the pretty elongated breakfast room overlooking the valley.
Review 102:Fabulous location in the old town. The hotel is one of the oldest in this medeval town and is extremely comfortable. The interior is furnished with anitiques and you can feel the history. The staff is overly helpful and after noticing that a busload of tourists had left I asked if there was a room available at the back of the hotel overlooking the valley, and for 20€ more we were thrilled to get a larger room with a view.
Review 103:Charming and very comfortable hotel in a great location in a great setting. Staff was very professional and helpful. Extended and spent 3 days there. Highly recommended.
Review 104:Noise isolation not as good as in new quality hotels, but still very acceptable
Review 105:Very charming, authentic hotel with friendly, helpfull staff, large room and good breakfast. The kids enjoyed the free football and snooker games in the lobby room !!
Review 106:It's a fantastic hotel in terms of the location, the facilities in the hotel, the breakfast, the view of the breakfast room. Everything is fantastic. There are two big halls in the ground floor and the 1st floor, the funitures in these two halls are classic and nice.
Review 107:No a/c, though in fairness, they did offer us a room with a/c. We could hear music coming from one of the bars. We couldn't open the window from one of the bedrooms because the fire escape came right to the window.
Review 108:Very spacious room. Friendly, helpful staff. We were offered a choice of rooms. Outstanding breakfast. Great location. Character hotel. A lot of elderly tourists, so the guests were quiet!
Review 109:Only negative was guest house did not have Wi-Fi but could be accessed in main building.
Review 110:Location is best in town. Fantastic views from guest house 0f main street and square. Views from restaurant at breakfast were great, Parking and access was great.
Review 111:Breakfast wasn't so impressive (not much choice of Brot & Broetchen) for German standard.
Review 112:Excellent location in the centre of the old town (few minutes walk to Marktplatz), beautiful view from the breakfast room, helpful staff, private parking is also only a minute walk.
Review 113:The staff were very accommodating to store our luggage prior to check-in. The location can't be beat in this beautiful town. The room was very nice and the breakfast in the morning was great.
Review 114:Requested a quiet room because we were traveling with our one year oldand were put in a road front room. Very noisy! Terrible sleep. No ac in95 degree weather. Very outdated and a little bit tacky. Shower haddisco lights in it...?!
Review 115:Location, friendly helpful staff
Review 116:Large tour groups @ breakfast & other guests smoking & talking loudly on a balcony outside of our room until 1:00 a.m.
Review 117:The hotel was located inside the walled medieval city of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. The room was spacious & overlooked a beautiful valley.
Review 118:We were at this hotel during a heat wave which affected everything from the comfort of the rooms to the patience of the staff. The staff was very short with us and with other travelers on a number of occasions. I would not stay here again.
Review 119:The location of this hotel was very good.
Review 120:We booked two rooms together, same room, same price. One was remodeled and modern, the other was old and dated and only had a shower in a bathtub. No AC in either room so it was very hot. Wifi did not work well.
Review 121:Included breakfast was great. Great location.
Review 122:First of all, the location is superb. The hotel is literally two blocks from the main square in Rothenburg's old town. Second, our check in was made simpler by English speaking desk clerks, so helpful. Also, the breakfast was excellent. They had a huge selection of meats, cheeses, cereal, breads, etc and great coffee. Finally, our room had a lovely overlooking the landscape south of the city: beautiful.
Review 123:The hotel was like an antique and that may be why the bed make noises whenever I move. The shower room has no curtains which make it quite hard to shower without getting the room wet. The extra pillow (triple room) was bit moldy.
Review 124:The breakfast was good and the staff were very helpful and nice. Dinning has a magnificent view.
Review 125:The friendly and helpful attitude of the staff added greatly to our enjoyment of our visit. Beautiful views of the Tauber valley from our room and from the dining room were especially nice. Location a short walk from the town square was perfect for us.
Review 126:First room they gave us smelt stale and felt very enclosed, but they changed us to a better room as soon as we asked. The rooms are rather tired.
Review 127:View from the bedroom window
Review 128:Room was upgraded without our permission and hotel refused to take responsibility or charge us what we had been quoted when we made the reservation on booking.com.
Review 129:The view from the room and the location of the hotel.
Review 130:Wifi is available for 24 hours at the time.
Review 131:We loved the because it reflected the elegance of a time gone by. With its wonderful views from the breakfast terrace over the Tauber valley and its large spacious rooms each with its claim to fame from its previous distinguished occupants. The staff was charming and helpful and the breakfast set you up for the day. All in all The Godene Hirsch was a micro cosm of the town itself.
The Fine Print
