Reviews for Romantik Hotel Markusturm ob der Tauber
Review 1:Tiny point, but I would have liked a little more variety in the evening menu. The food was very good, but after a few days you tended to run out of choices.
Review 2:This is a fabulous hotel. The situation is perfect - Rothenburg is the most beautiful German town, and the rooms are comfortable and beautifully equipped - I wish my bathroom at home was as good as this one! Staff were helpful and friendly and we had a lovely stay. I highly recommend this hotel.
Review 3:Nothing
Review 4:Very warm, friendly staff, beautiful and very comfortable room, delightful ambience - very warm and cosy, excellent breakfast and very good restaurant, perfect location
Review 5:When we arrived to Rothenburg we had trouble getting to the hotel via car. We parked the car and walked to the hotel. The hotel owner sent her daughter with my husband to drive the car to the hotel. The staff went out of there way to help us and provided excellent service. Our rooms were lovely and the breakfast was delicious. We look forward to visiting again in the future.
Review 6:Perfect location. Right under the archway to the old city. Very romantic and quaint. Loved the restaurant, as well. The staff were very friendly and willing to help in anyway possible.
Review 7:Best service we have ever seen. They went out of their way to make us comfortable and accommodated our early departure. Enjoyed dinner in their restaurant with great quality food. Will stay again!
Review 8:Lots of steps. No air conditioning and noisy outside window.
Review 9:The location was central to walking in the old city. Staff was excellent and very accommodating. Even vallet parked our car. Ambience in room great.
Review 10:We had a really nice night in this hotel. The staff was extremely friendly, and even made some recommendations to me on some good German music I could listen to. The hotel restaurant had one vegetarian option, but it was really delicious. They make their own beer on location as well. The room we had was on the top floor, and big enough for 4 people! The decor was tasteful and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast was very nice as well, and offered fresh waffles which was something we hadn't seen anywhere else during our trip. Getting to the hotel was a bit tricky because of some road construction, but once we were there, they parked the car for us and we didn't need to worry about it anymore :) Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a beautiful little city full of foot traffic, shops, restaurants, and history. There is no public transportation because it's a walled in city - so you just walk everywhere. There are a LOT of people who visit this city.
Review 11:Nothing!!!
Review 12:The hotel in general, dinner and breakfast excellent, room comfortable although our shower room was a bit small. The staff friendly and very helpful. Great location.
Review 13:None.
Review 14:A wonderful old building, comfortable, clean and well maintained. Our spacious room was delightful. The staff were extremely helpful. Our car was securely parked. The breakfast was excellent. The location is ideal. We will definitely stay there again.
Review 15:The lack of an elevator
Review 16:My wife and I stayed in this hotel during the second half of September this year. Very comfortable hotel in a historic building of the old German city, nice and friendly staff, good continental breakfast. The hotel has its own parking (two blocks away)
Review 17:our room was large with many antiques. our dinner and breakfast were delicious with a lovely ambience. Staff were all very helpful, friendly and courteous.
Review 18:Location was great. Inside Old Town and just a short walk to town hall. Room was large and clean. They parked and retrieved our car for us. Not sure where they took it, but it worked out well.
Review 19:Room overlooked an ally with a light shining all night, making sleep difficult. Room appearance was inferior to the Romantik Hotels we have stayed in.
Review 20:Staff and location were very good
Review 21:There is no air conditioning. We survived (and slept well) with a fan, but in the middle of summer it may be uncomfortable.
Review 22:Wonderful position right in the centre of Rothenburg. Valet parking. Old world charm. Lovely staff - especially in restaurant. We loved bakery across the road - best coffee in Germany. PLEASE DON'T GET RID OF THE PROPER COFFEE MACHINE!!!
Review 23:We were there in a heat wave and it was hard to be cool - not unique to this hotel, but most hotels in Germany and Switzerland have no or limited AC.
Review 24:Wonderful staff, charming hotel and excellent location.
Review 25:the room on the top floor is very hot. but there is no aircondition there.
Review 26:The location is excellent. It's in the center of rotenberge. And the staff is good.
Review 27:Friendly, helpful staff. A very comfortable hotel with good facilities. Breakfast was excellent with a very good choice. Evening meal was locally cooked food of a high quality.
Review 28:Was difficult to get to as one of the roads was closed due to building works. The one way system may it very hard to find our way to the hotel.
Review 29:Friendly staff, very cosy and comfortable.
Review 30:Wish there had been air conditioning because it was hot and stuffy inside our room. We opened a window but felt like the street crowd was talking in our room.
Review 31:The hotel was in a great location. Breakfast had lots of choices and the quality was very good.
Review 32:Everyone who worked there was awesome - helpful, friendly, and willing to go out of their way to make our stay great! The food in their restaurant (and their beer) is to die for!! We will be back!
Review 33:Loved the old world charm and cleanliness. Location is perfect. Dinner was excellent. I had the duck and my wife had the Weiner schnitzel. Everything including the side dishes was amazing. Breakfast was very good as well. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Only drawback was lack of Airconditioning which is common in Europe. We experienced 100 degree temps so it was unusually warm at night. Fan was helpful though. Room was large and furnishings looked new. We would return.
Review 34:Extremily overpriced for what it had to offer, facility looks very tired, decor from the 60's, filthy and uncomfortable couch. Location was the only saving grace for this hotel.
Review 35:The privileged location, good infrastructure, overall silence, the friendly staff and good breakfast. Highlights to their restaurant and for being a historical building
Review 36:Wifi was quite bad and worked only sometimes.
Review 37:Room and overall atmosphere of the hotel. Haven't been for a while in such nice and romantic room. Hotel's interior was nicely decorated and it certainly felt like staying in older building. Location of the hotel couldn't be better.
Review 38:Arrived during unusual heat spell and hotel had inadequate number of fans for all guest rooms; driving inside walled town is better suited for horse-drawn carriages (very narrow streets)!
Review 39:Quaint hotel located in a beautiful, historic town; owners are delightful.
Review 40:breakfast is simple
Review 41:room is clean, and facilty is well maintenanced. Nice host, always smile and meet your needs. good trasportation point, located at the entrance of the town.
Review 42:No bad experience, but you need to be willing to drive the wrong way up and down narrow medieval roads to get there!
Review 43:Lovely small hotel in the city walls converted from medieval customs house. Excellent facilities, immaculately clean and very close to the centre of this beautiful old medieval town. Good breakfast.
Review 44:However the 'classic single room' that I booked was more basic and cell-like. I struggled to identify the promised 'sitting area'. Although he breakfast was good, the niche in which the buffet was located was ridiculously small for the number of guests. A single family fussing over what to take was enough to cause a long tailback
Review 45:The Romantik Hotel looks fabulous snuggled up against the Marksturm and some of the traditionally furnished double rooms looked enchanting
Review 46:No AC in a very hot July; probably would have been perfect any other time of the year. Breakfast really shouldn't even be offered, plenty to eat in town.
Review 47:Great place to stay; excellent location and very friendly staff. Room was beautiful and very clean. Would stay again.
Review 48:They must have limited parking as most old cities so they parked your car and it would be a hassle to keep getting it and parking it.
Review 49:The staff spoke English well. My german is limited..
Review 50:The pillows were not comfortable at all but otherwise a great place to stay!
Review 51:The location was amazing! Perfect! Very charming - hospitable & superb breakfast - very relaxed atmosphere / the antiques were so nice - would highly recommend!
Review 52:The price was a bit steep for the area.
Review 53:The staff was excellent and made arrangements for our late arrival when 3 of our trains were cancelled due to extreme heat. They also made sure a fan was cooling the room.
Review 54:Our second visit-full up last time, unable to book.Central position.Wonderful hotel full of ancient artefacts.Very good cuisine. Helpful staff. Car parking available.
Review 55:The weather was extreme hot, over 38°C. There is NO air-condition in the house. We could not sleep, so left the hotel next morning. Wifi very slow.
Review 56:Superior room, nice furniture, excellent breakfast, very good location, friendly staff
Review 57:No elevator.
Review 58:Great location in the center of town, the hotel has a great deal of character and old world charm. Those working are very nice and friendly and breakfast was well done and good. There was great variety offered.
Review 59:N/a
Review 60:We arrived VERY late and the staff was kind enough to make arrangements to have keys "stashed" for us so that we could get in when we arrived (no night desk staff). The hotel ambiance, cleanliness and presentation was INCREDIBLE and the cost was SUPERBLY fair and reasonable. Breakfast was also wonderful. Will return in the future!!
Review 61:The extra bed was too small. They should offer a 90cm bed instead of the 76cm sofabed.
Review 62:Central location. Hotel decoration matches with the medieval feel of the town.
Review 63:The first night I got a room with a musty odor. They put me into a new room the next day.
Review 64:The unique rooms, breakfast, location, the town...everything!
Review 65:Nothing!
Review 66:They gave us a free"upgrade" because there was no taxi service and we had to walk from the train station in the rain. They provided us with a plug adapter and let us keep our luggage there all afternoon after we had checked out. Super breakfast too.
Review 67:WiFi did not work, only once and very short. It was impossible to connect - maybe due to the thick walls of the old building...
Review 68:Great location, parking available, delicious food
Review 69:We had zero complaints! Everything was top notch!
Review 70:Location can't be beat, hotel has its own restaurant and everything is homemade including the beer! Staff was wonderful with answering our questions and even moved our car for us when they were banning cars inside the city walls for the weekend. Upon hearing it was our anniversary they gave is a small gift as well! Service like this is hard to find! We hope to stay here again someday!
Review 71:The bed while lovely to look at was too hard!
Review 72:The history of the hotel and it's old world charm were terrific. It was close to all we wanted to see and do and the staff were very friendly and attentive. A terrific place!
Review 73:Didn't stay long enough in RODT.
Review 74:Central location. Great parking for a reasonable rate. Rooms are comfortable. Great decor throughout hotel. Wish we could have stayed here longer.
Review 75:Really need to invest in new pillows, even the spare in the cupboard was like putting my head on a pillow slip!!
Review 76:Its all about the location, love the look of this property which suits this medieval village.
Review 77:My only complaint is that the bed is much harder than my American back is used to. All the hotels we stayed in that were not specifically American chain hotels were this way in Europe. So, it is a general European hotel thing.
Review 78:Overall it was very good. The staff was great. The location was good within Rothenburg. I really enjoyed it overall.
Review 79:the rather strange one way system is difficult in Winter, and would be almost impossible without Sat Nav
Review 80:over the years this hotel has improved and has a young group of staff who all speak perfect English. The hotel continues to look traditional with superb food and wine
Review 81:Perfect romantic hotel in city center, near the old tower. It stands on fairytale street with medieval houses on it. It takes just two minutes on foot to the main square. Very pleasant and professional personnel. We were there on Cristmas Eve and the decorations inside was like in Hoffmann's 'The Nutcracker' story: beautiful Christmas tree, candles, toys. Beautiful, comfortable room with magnificent view on Fachwerk houses.. Breakfast included, served in large antique hall. We are dreaming to return here next time!
Review 82:Shops all closed for a Holy holiday on January 6 which we weren't aware of.
Review 83:Staying within the walled town is fantastic. Easy to explore and enjoy the atmosphere. Night watch tour is interesting. Dinner was delicious at Restaurant. Staff very friendly and helpful.
Review 84:Our room was on the top floor, as far from Reception as one could possibly be. And we had reserved in February of 2014 for December. And no lift. I had reserved two rooms, as I always make arrangements for us and the other couple who travels with us. The rooms weren't comparable, although the same price. This doesn't seem quite fair, and I am generally acquiescing to our friends, even though I make all the arrangements. Restaurant staff not so friendly but food was okay.
Review 85:The kind porter unload our many bags (we were at the end of a two-week trip with another couple, shopping the Christmas markets of southern Germany) and then took our vehicle and parked it. What a help. Hotel has such history and charm; one feels as though they've stepped back centuries in time. Location couldn't be more convenient. Nice quiet rooms and a lovely view of the surrounding rooftops.
Review 86:Location and service are second to none. If you are coming to Rothenburg, and particularly for Xmas markets, this is the place to stay. you will love it. Magical.
Review 87:Position was fantastic Staff were amazing and so friendly Great breakfast Even gave us a free beer So convenient with a restraint underneath that has great food Almost a must stay; we were amazed!!!!
Review 88:I didn't care for the pillow, although the mattress was comfy.
Review 89:Staff was very friendly, good location in old town. Enjoyed our dinner at the restaurant!
Review 90:They don't have a lift but they have a gentleman that takes the bags up for you.
Review 91:We loved the feel and the smell of Christmas when we walked in the hotel. The staff were friendly and the restaurant dining area was cosy and the meal in the hotel for dinner was superb! We loved the location and would highly recommend the hotel to others
Review 92:*Staff were friendly and obliging *Breakfast was great - excellent selection *Car Parking is good *Great heating *Room was a good size *The Hotel is right in the centre of the old town *This hotel has been in the same family for 4 x Generations - so they have had plenty of practice getting it right. * The present owner is at your beck and call - Thorough Gentleman!
Review 93:Absolutely nothing.
Review 94:Just love this hotel, now our third time. Something is just right about the whole experience. Rather magical in Rothenburg at Christmas. Looking forward to visit No 4.
Review 95:not enough toilet paper, Wi-Fi signal was medium but still satisfactory
Review 96:Spacious room, romantic design, friendly staff, beautiful building, authentic decoration, nice breakfast
Review 97:Awesome location and wonderful owners & staff. Something we didn't know until we arrived: they make their own beer (dark, pils, & wheat)!
Review 98:There was nothing we didn't like about this hotel. It was one of the nicest we stayed in in our two weeks in Germany. Very pleased and decided to stay an extra night there because it was such a nice place.
Review 99:Did not have enough time to enjoy everything.
Review 100:I really like the feel of the Hotel. I had a nice big room and the food was good. The staff very helpful. The night watchman tour was a lot fun. We enjoyed the whole town.
Review 101:Parking is free but down the road from the hotel (about 500-600 meters). There is a valet but only at certain times of the day.
Review 102:Very friendly staff and everyone spoke English. Centeraly located within the walls of the city center. We have stayed here twice now and love it.
Review 103:Loved the true german decor and period furniture. Right in the middle of everything, easy to walk everywhere. Great breakfast and they went out of there way to make us comfortable.
Review 104:Nothing.
Review 105:This hotel was amazing! All the rooms are furnished differently. Very romantic. It is located steps away from the city center. We had dinner in the hotel. The staff is so friendly. It is somewhat difficult to find with all the one way streets. Even google maps had a hard time. But upon arrival they parked our car for us. Simply wonderful.
Review 106:bar/restaurant closed on Monday, parking is off-site
Review 107:historic atmosphere, location just a few minutes walk from the Marktplatz, overly friendly staff, very comfortable bed, good wifi signal
Review 108:We wished there had been a couple of fans in the room. The windows were open so we heard all of the noises from outside. If we had fans would have opted to close the windows in the sleeping areas.
Review 109:Everything was great! The hotel staff was very friendly, breakfast was fantastic with many choices, clean room and clean bathrooms in the lobby area. It is centrally located to everything. We enjoyed our stay there.
Review 110:There is nothing to not like.
Review 111:I loved that the hotel was within the walls. The old town makes you feel as if you really are a couple of hundred years in the past. I loved the walk with the night watchmen he really is a funny man. I'd love to go back in a couple of years just to see if anything does change.
Review 112:The hotel is just steps away from the center of Medieval Rothenburg. Our room was charming, quiet, and clean. Breakfast was wonderful. Staff couldn't have been nicer.
Review 113:Our stay here was simply "wonderful" A good central location in a traffic free area. We had a decent sized room complete with four poster bed and a sunken bathroom "par excellence" The staff were friendly and helpful and our car was taken to a local safe car park since you will be unable to drive in the centre of town. The tour given by the Nightwatchman every evening is well worth taking and provides some insight (with humour) into the history and development of this beautiful town.
Review 114:There were certainly no minus points.
Review 115:Wonderful staff made to feel extremely welcome.speaking perfect English,Manager such a professional person .Our car was parked (4 euro only) and delivered the next day .wonderful room 116 . wi fi strong signal throughout. fantasic choice for breakfast. A truly wonderful stay in a wonderful location person
Review 116:Our family agreed that Rothenburg ob der Tauber was our favorite stop onour 2 week European vacation. This hotel is awesome! A few highlights:it is smack in the center of all activity, an amazing breakfast isincluded, the wonderful owners enjoy speaking to guests, and they havefamily apartments on the top floor that easily slept 4 large people.Don't hesitate to stay here when you visit this charming city. Makesure to see the Night Watchman Tour and the Crime and Punishment Museum!Very cool medieval city!!!
Review 117:The bedroom was amazing as was the house and town. We couldn't faultit. The staff were quite helpful too, we even had sheltered parking forour sports car for a modest 10 euros a night
Review 118:Pillows not that comfortable.
Review 119:Location great in the centre of the old town. Friendly, helpful staff. Great breakfast with hot and cold choices. Wifi excellent and would recommend
Review 120:The restaurant and in particular breakfast area seemed very small and congested.
Review 121:Very friendly staff who took our car and parked it and were very amenable to our requests. Lovely family room, very comfortable. Totally AMAZING location.
Review 122:Amazing location and a beautiful historic building. The breakfast was very good and the quality of food served in the restaurant was very good. The staff were helpful and kind.
Review 123:Very helpfull staff, very central location, they valet-park your car for you which takes the hassle from finding a spot, very good restaurant for dinner and generous breakfast
Review 124:The pillows.. We should have asked if they had any non-goose down pillows. Other than that the beds were comfortable. There is no air conditioning in the hotel and it was a bit warm in our room, but there were fans in the room to help cool us off.
Review 125:Friendly, attentive staff who spoke English. Large room in a quiet area of the hotel, comfortably fit our family of 4. The location of the hotel is very picturesque!
