Reviews for Hotel Rappen Rothenburg ob der Tauber
Review 1:Staff at the desk seemed a little perturbed to be asked questions.
Review 2:Very clean, large room located 10-15 min walk to the market square. The hotel is located just outside the Old Town Walls.
Review 3:The restaurant is in another building, although the food was very good, the waiter was verging on rude.
Review 4:The location was just outside the city wall, plenty of parking, large comfortable clean room.
Review 5:When we went into the hotel restaurant after arriving, we were told all tables were reserved. We were never asked if we were hotel guest, just simply turned away again, with an attitude that they didn't have time or room for us.
Review 6:Staff acted more like we were "lucky" to know them vs being gracious that we would choose their establishment over all the others.
Review 7:The problem of this hotel is, that there are three buildings where you can have a room. If you plan to go to breakfast, you must take your jacket and go to another building...
Review 8:Great location, plenty of place for parking.
Review 9:I didn't like the shower and we had water over the bathroom floor after taking a shower.
Review 10:Nice hotel a short walk from the town centre. Very good breakfast and dinner in the restaurant. Child friendly hotel with children's meny in the restaurant. We had a huge family room with two bedrooms, perfect for us.
Review 11:Cleaning is doubtful. The rug at the elevator was really dirty and old outworn, giving a bad impression about overall cleaning.
Review 12:Frendly staff at the reception, Large room, easy parking, very good breakfast, convenient and fair 5 hours late check out upon EUR 30 charge. 10 minutes of a relaxing walking till the Marienplatz.
Review 13:Plenty of parking behind the hotel which is easily accessed. The restaurant which serves local meals. The hotel is just outside the walls of the old city which you can walk to in a couple of minutes. There are several shops including a supermarket and bank about 5 min walk away. Our room was quite small but had been thoughtfully renovated so that it worked well even though we are travelling with two large cases.
Review 14:Great location, good breakfasts and friendly staff. We would stay at the Hotel Rappen again. And hopefully we will return to Rothenburg one day - it was wonderful.
Review 15:The glass on the shower is not adequate to prevent water from going onto the floor. Filmy curtains on bathroom windows. Maybe a window decal could be put in place to allow light and keep the pretty curtains.
Review 16:The staff was extremely friendly, the food was delicious, the wifi actually worked and the location was perfection.
Review 17:A bit hard to find at night as there are three buildings of this hotel. Good location, just outside of the old town gate. Had a car park and the staff kindly allowed us to use it for the afternoon after checking out for sight seeing.
Review 18:Room was right next to patio and had very thin curtains so couldn't use the bathroom at night. Also the Wi-Fi went off after an hour.
Review 19:The location was perfect - just outside the city walls. Also there was ample parking which was free.
Review 20:Needed clean replacement glasses the next day.
Review 21:Parking free on site. Clean, breakfast selection very good, great pillows. Very close to entrance to old town..
Review 22:Beds were not very comfortable. We both have bad backs & the beds were too hard.
Review 23:The hotel is beautiful, the staff was great, restaurant was very good, location is awesome.
Review 24:hard mattress, nearby church bells every hours at night, the hotel's restaurant is slow when busy
Review 25:cosy hotel closed to historical part of city, big parking place, clean room
Review 26:Everything! The rooms were clean and roomy. BreAKFASTS WERE DELICIOUS AND MANY CHOICES, BOTH HOT AND COLD. THE STAFF WERE WONDERFUL EVERYONE WAS VERY FRIENDLY AND ALL SPOKE ENGLISH AND OTHER LANGUAGES. MANAGER GABRIELE RAFFELSBAUER WAS EXTREMELY HELPFUL IN EXTENDING MY STAY DUE TO MY HUSBANDS HOSPITAL STAY. EVERYNIGHT, I FELT LIKE I WAS COMING HOME. THE WIFI WAS ALWAYS STRONG AND FREE. CLOSE TO OLD CITY AND TRAIN STATION.
Review 27:Did not have a bad experience, but the room was small for the three of us.
Review 28:The breakfast was outstanding and the reservation/desk staff were friendly and helpful.
Review 29:There are 3 separate buildings so had to walk outdoors to get to the restaurant for breakfast.
Review 30:Just outside the entrance to the old town. Also, had a restaurant. New bathroom with great shower. Ample parking.
Review 31:I had a extra sofa bed in the 3-bed room, which is a little bit lower than the usual one.But I would expect a single bed instead.
Review 32:Friendly and helpful staff. The hotel has a large parking lot behind the building and just 5 minute walking to the old town. And it's nice there is a balcony.
Review 33:Nothing.
Review 34:Great hotel with very friendly staff, very nice breakfast and great location. It was 35+ degrees in Rothenburg, which I do t think it usual, so it was almost unbearable to sleep as it didn't even cool down past 20 at night and no breeze. But no fault of the lovely hotel. Also, great location just outside the old town wall.
Review 35:diversions and traffic jams made for problems finding the hotel. It would have been helpful to have some warning and advice either on the website or by email
Review 36:breakfast in the garden
Review 37:Our room was on the beer-garden side. So, if you get one of those, and need to open your windows at night (no AC), don't plan on sleeping until well after midnight. Service at the restaurant is mediocre at best.
Review 38:Good location, easy parking, close to the historic center. Decent food, good breakfast.
Review 39:Nothing
Review 40:Perfect location outside the walled city only 2 min walk ....Plenty of Free Parking ..Great Breakfast..Restaurant on site with Great meals ..Wonderful Friendly Helpful Staff . Would definitely recommend staying especially if you are travelling by car...Also English speaking reception staff which was a great help ...
Review 41:Nice and friendly staff, the day we left they allowed us to leave the car in the hotel's parking in order to finish the visit of the town. The position, just outside the city walls is great.
Review 42:The reception might benefit from a checklist. When I first checked in they forgot to give me a parking pass, next they forgot to have me sign a wifi agreement thing, then the password didn't work... Was frustrating running up & down to reception for what they could have taken care of at step 1.
Review 43:Great location, nice room, nice (free) breakfast: a 10 min walk from the center of Rothenburg, very safe & comfortable stay. Room was nice & clean, reception spoke great english & breakfast was very nice.
Review 44:Not at all.
Review 45:It was perfect. The bed was so clean, and the room was really big. It was cozy, with perfect service of staffs. It takes about 10 minutes walk, even though we were with heavy luggages. There's also 24-hours market in 5 minutes walk.
Review 46:The room we were given was not what we booked. Booked a family room for 3 adults, we were given a room which accommodates 2 adults and possibly a small child at a push. We went back to reception to complain and they weren't prepared to accommodate us. We had to ask twice for extra bedding to make up a third bed, only two bath towels, two pillows, two of everything, yet they insisted it was a room for 3 adults! Also don't expect to order a drink here after 9pm, we were rudely told it was closed. The staff just didn't want to know.
Review 47:Location
Review 48:The road outside the hotel is extremely busy so a peaceful nights sleep isn't possible. The breakfast was poor with the meats and cheese dried out and looking as though they had been left under hot lights for several hours. This coupled with the activity of flies made sampling the breakfast foods a risky business.
Review 49:The receptionist when we checked out. The room was large, but sparsely furnished.
Review 50:Used by coach companies as a stop over : lacks the personal touch, we stayed in the annex and it was no better than a Travelodge . Breakfast poor with poor service.
Review 51:The location was convenient and parking
Review 52:Very easy to find and 2 minute walk to the walls of the old town so very easy to start exploring straight away. Also very large car park which was a plus. Very enjoyable stay, wish we could have stayed longer.
Review 53:Room was a bit small. Local tax addition to bill was a surprise, though not too expensive.
Review 54:Easy to drive to with off-road parking, great location for walking into Rothenburg
Review 55:Room is too small and bildong devided 3 places so third building in backyard was the cheapest room.i guess gropu tour stays there.
Review 56:Great location and fair breakfast considering price. Clean.
Review 57:room (triple-room) is not large and has sloping ceiling. it could be quite hot inside (no aircon), wifi is too slow
Review 58:Good location (just near old city wall), nice old building, free parking, good breakfast
Review 59:Immediately outside the walled city of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, this hotel has a perfect location. The room was large by European standards and the staff was excellent. The free breakfast was very good, too.
Review 60:No air conditioning and no cooling fan makes sleep very difficult in hot weather.
Review 61:Very handy location to the old town. Beer garden very nice on a hot afternoon..
Review 62:Loved the location and the breakfast was fantastic. More than expected. It was more of a lunch than breakfast. If you leave it hungry it is your fault.
Review 63:Try to get a room in the newer building.
Review 64:Great location five minutes walk from the historic center. On-site very popular restaurant. Plenty of free parking. Decent rooms.
Review 65:Staffs at the reception were a little bit on no interaction/intention to greet the guests when they walked pass by in or out of the hotel. So much different than all other places that I had been on my 4th weeks Europe trip.
Review 66:Big and comfortable room. Very close to walk to the incredible charming old town center.
Review 67:Unfortunately its rooms in not provided with tea/coffee maker.
Review 68:we like and enjoy almost all of about this hotel. Our stay in this hotel is our second stay.
Review 71:All staff are very helpful especially Dieter Kettner and Yvonne Bichtemann. the technician of the car rental cannot speak any English during the car checking in hotel car park, Mr Kettner helped us for translation during the checking. Yvonne sent an email to call us back to hotel to meet the technician when we had a dinner outside. All staff are wonderful! Room is clean and spacious. Location is near the tourist spot. Free car parked and free wifi are good options!
Review 72:The only down side for us was the lack of English TV channels available.
Review 73:The location, just outside the city walls was excellent. Ideal for walking around the city. The staff were very helpful.
Review 74:Bathroom was a step down which was dangerous. Tub was only for young atheletes...I was not able to climb into the tub as it was very high and slippery.
Review 75:Close to old town
Review 76:Not much, except the weather was cold (March) for us being from CA. Next time we will go in June.
Review 77:We spent 2 weeks in 4 countries in Europe and this hotel had the best breakfast of all. It was a welcome meal since we were traveling by auto and wanted to spend time on road, not looking for a restaurant. We would definately go back.
Review 78:Breakfast is in another building next door. Not a big deal though.
Review 79:Location is wonderful, there is ample parking and you are two minutes away from the town entrance. Bathroom was very modern and clean, loved the heated towels fresh from the rack.
Review 80:The front desk staff were very friendly, and allowed us to check in early so we could start touring the city. Located just outside of the city wall the hotel is very convenient providing parking and easy access to the city centre.
Review 81:Poor access of parking lot and unpaved surface. Quite dark at night with only one light bulb that give the feeling of unsafe.
Review 82:Old building hotel that keep good maintenance.
Review 83:The room felt cold (it only had one small radiator which didn't put out much heat)
Review 84:The location is excellent, just outside the old city walls. Would stay at the hotel again.
Review 85:Hotel was right next to an entry gate into the old city. Our room accessed the terrace area on the first floor so we had a view of the old city wall and gate house accessed directly from our room. Breakfast was very good with a wide choice including cooked items. Room was a good size and very comfortably appointed. Close enough to the station - the 10 minute walk for us with our cases was easy.
Review 86:The building our rooms were in felt clean but soul-less, rather like a home for the elderly. The breakfast was diasappointing.
Review 87:Excellent access to the Altstadt with easy connections to all main routes. Clean rooms
Review 88:Breakfast was slightly disappointing, we had much nicer ones in other hotels we stayed in the same region. I was also disappointed by the fact that they wanted to charge for the baby-bed ( Foldable crib) as this is available for free in every hotel I stayed so far in Europe. I dont think a hotel should be trying to grab an extra profit with such things, specially if it intends to host families. Luckily, they cancelled the fee as I was not informed in advance and they said I should have received an e- mail. Another small thing...the curtain is too small and doesn't cover all the window area, so I had to improvise a curtain with the blankets in order to avoid the light coming from the street.
Review 89:Fair hotel, centrally located, large and confortable bedroom.
Review 90:The staff was incredibly helpful, going out of their way to find a bar where we could watch a game. The breakfast was amazing. Walking distance to everything.
Review 91:We stayed two nights. There were not enough staff at the breakfast place on the second day. So I had to ask to bring coffee to my table to the reception.
Review 92:Room was spacious. We could adjust the temperature of the heater.
Review 93:Location was a short walk from the train station and an even shorter walk to the Rothenburg downtown area. Rooms, staff and breakfast were excellent!
Review 94:Loved the location, parked at the hotel and walked everywhere. The family room with bunk beds was perfect for kids. We all had our own space and we all slept very well without disturbing each other!
Review 95:Nothing, very recommended.
Review 96:- The location is excellent: just few steps from the old city gate; - Clean and spacious room, ample parking lot behind the main building; - Amazing dinner (local Southern-German cuisine: sausages, sauerkraut, schnitzel, pancakes, spaezle - yummy!) and breakfast in hotel's restaurant.
Review 97:At first we booked at the 3 star hotel. When we visited it, in order to check-in, the receptionist send us in another building, next to the 3star hotel. The other building was very bad. Small corridors, low lightning, small rooms with only tv. Not even a fridge. The reception in the other building was very rude and not at all helpful. The whole building was smelling very bad. Combination of fried food from the kitchen, and something else, i cant describe it. The receptionist in the first building never asked our opinion about the commodities, and didnt seem to care much either.
Review 98:-the breakfast was really good. -The parking was free -the wifi was free as well. -next to the old town. 5 minutes by feet.
Review 99:Great staff, beautiful large rooms, very clean and steps from the wall that surrounds Rothenberg. Also, the breakfast was superb. We would stay again. :)
Review 100:The family room was perfect. The couple could rest and watch television and the kids while the kids stayed in their "on room". The bathroom was great, really nice shower and very clean.
Review 101:Bad service in hotel restaurant. Kitchen closing at 21:00, however arriving just before this hour we were still told that the kitchen had already closed and no food could be served. This is not acceptable. Especially to resident guests who were told by reception that the kitchen would be open.
Review 102:Situated within walking distance of the old city of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Friendly staff in reception.
Review 103:None.
Review 104:I did like the cleanness and the comfort of the room as well as the flowless Wi-Fi connection. Since we travel with small kids and two little dogs the size of the room also matters. Breakfast is excellent. We keep returning :)
Review 105:The was almost non existent in rooms so we had to sit in the hall to use internet. The hotel staff were not great at customer service, they seemed short and abrupt.
Review 106:The hotel was in a great Location near to the gates of the old city walls. The Bath was large and deep and the bathroom room was large and warm. The rooms were large with plenty of room to move around even with far too much luggage. Good Breakfast buffet kept us full of energy for the day.
Review 107:Most of the staff was very helpful and nice, but not all. Also, the restaurant (including breakfast) is located on a separate building, which is a little uncomfortable in winter.
Review 108:Almost everything about this hotel is great. The rooms are very comfortable, well decorated and clean. The location couldn't be best, specially if you go by car: it has free parking space and is located just outside the city walls.
Review 109:the dining room is separate from the main body of the hotel, so you need to go out for breakfast even if it's raining or it's cold.
Review 110:everything ok
Review 111:The hotel is actually split between 2 buildings, of which the friends we were traveling with were in 1 building and we were in the other older building. Also, the restaurant gets very busy, and there is minimal staff, so wait times for asking for another drink or your check can be very long (ie we waited 45 minutes after asking for our check before being able to get the attention of the waiter again to ask for a second time).
Review 112:The rooms are decent size, linen is ok. This is a good hotel for a single over night to visit Rothenburg. The location is exceptional, it is right outside the wall, so you just walk through an arch and you are inside the walled city.
Review 113:Wifi was slow and faded. We had two rooms booked and they were in two different buildings. We tried to change them and were told that as we had booked through Booking.com we could not change them. Never have had that happen before. We were even willing to pay for upgrades.
Review 114:The location just outside the city walls was great. Parking is easy once you find the place. Very clean rooms.
Review 115:The room could be more modern.
Review 116:The breakfast is good, bur it could heva more options. Rita is amazing! She helped us showing all we could get from the breakfast. The city is small, but despite that, being close to the main entrance of the city was worth once we parked the car and had a nice walking through.
Review 117:Bed was moderately uncomfortable and too small/short. I also would have liked a bigger/wider blanket or comforter or something to stay warmer. No shutter for the window meant there was more light in the room than I wanted. There is a church bell near by that rings past midnight which was annoying but I managed to get a decent sleep anyway.
Review 118:The price was good and the location is excellent. The hotel is right outside the wall surrounding the old city and has a large parking lot. I dined at the restaurant in the hotel and it was excellent. Service was good (above the normal German standard for wait staff), staff spoke English and the food was great!
Review 119:Not much to fault this place. The bed was a little soft for my liking, but the location, amenities, helpful staff more than compensate for any faults.
Review 120:Located right outside the walled old town. Excellent place to stay to see the Christmas night market. Staff were very helpful.
Review 121:We booked a double bed room and tried to sleep with our child on a double bed, but the bed was a bed combined with 2 single beds and they each have wooden edge, so it was hard to use as a double bed.
Review 122:The location is really good. It's just in front of walls. The room is not big, but enough for us and it's functional.
Review 123:The hotel was hosting a party that went on till very late. It was impossible not to be disturbed by it whilst trying to sleep.
Review 124:Very convenient location within easy walking distance if the old town and the main areas of interest. The hotel also had parking which was very useful in a town where parking could be difficult.
Review 125:The breakfast that is included was awesome. The location of the hotel was very convenient. We were able to walk 5 minutes and be in the middle of the city where all the restaurants and the Christmas market was. I would stay here again. The staff at the front desk were very nice and informative of the history of the town.
Review 126:Nothing bad to say about this hotel!
Review 127:We stayed just one night at the Hotel Rappen, but wished we had more time to stay! The location was perfect for our needs (we were there to visit the Christmas market). We had a very large family room, and were very happy with the cleanliness, comfort, and warmth of the room. My two toddlers had plenty of room to play and get their wiggles out. The breakfast was a typical German buffet, and everything was delicious and fresh; the service was fantastic, the staff was all very attentive. We would definitely stay here again and have already recommended it to friends looking for a trip to Rothenburg O.d.T.
Review 128:Small bathroom but it was very clean and seems recently renovated.
Review 129:We had a spacious family room; 5 could comfortably sleep. Breakfast was nothing fancy, but perfect for us; typical continental breakfast - cereals, yogurt, cheeses, salami and other meats, eggs and sausages, bread, coffee and juices. Hot chocolate provided to kids. Very short enjoyable walk to the center of the walled city, allowing us to take in the sites. Being outside the wall, the price was great; can't beat the value!
Review 130:The shower was extremely small, but had good water pressure. The bed was very firm and both my husband and I would have liked a second pillow.
Review 131:The location, directly outside the wall was excellent. Could walk everywhere we needed to go. Town center was only a five minute walk. Clean facilities and friendly staff. We also enjoyed the complementary breakfast.
Review 132:The bed was like sleeping on a concrete slab. My wife and I both had horrible back pain after sleeping there. Would not stay there again under threat of torture.
Review 133:Staff friendly Breakfast adequite Excellent location Great parking
