Reviews for Burghotel
Review 1:Stayed in the Burgschlossen suite. It has 2 very steep staircases and the ceiling on the stairs is very low in places. Not good for Grannie, or 2m son in law. Daughter was concerned about 7 year old and the steep staircase outside his room if he went to the bathroom at night. Would be ideal for most families.
Review 2:Love this hotel, best spot in Rothenburg and this is my 3rd stay over a 30 year period. It has not changed. Good breakfast. Glad to find the suite had a 2nd toilet upstairs. Nice to have space.
Review 3:Great location w/in the walls of the city. On-site parking available (for a fee). The rooms were spotlessly clean! Comfortable beds. The owner and her father were very friendly and helpful! Just a fantastic experience. Great breakfast with a view!
Review 4:The service from the owner was amazing, friendly and helpful, the rooms were beautiful but a tad overpriced because of location. Breakfast was wonderful and the staff again was terrific.
Review 5:Having to find someone to open garage to get auto
Review 6:Otto, the owner was great. Would have liked more personal info on the main hotel, like show us where the restaurant was and what you offer. Could we sit in the hotel main rooms? Apartment was really nice. Views very pleasing. Lovely Gardens to look at
Review 7:An amazing hotel in an amazing setting. As a family of 4 adults and 1 teenager, we were accommodated in the 3 bedroom suite. I could live in this place, it was so beautiful. The bedrooms, living area and bathroom, including 2 toilets were nothing short of out of a story book. Very modern bathroom and facilities. Antique type furnishings were very comfortable. The staff were perfectly accommodating, the breakfast was cooked especially to your liking and the selection was great. I will stay here again when next I have the opportunity to stay at Rothenburg.
Review 8:Nothing
Review 9:The innkeeper is lovely. He personally walked my family up to our suite, showed us the facilities, and answered all our questions. The hotel is close to all the shopping sites and private garage for your car.
Review 10:Nothing! This hotel was perfect!
Review 11:This hotel was amazing! I couldn't fault it, since the moment we walked in the service was through the roof! The staff were so lovely, walked us all the way to our room, gave us a map of the city and offered to do anything for us that we might need. The room was stunning, so grand and clean. The hotel it's self was gorgeous with a beautiful breakfast room and lovely food! Would recommend this hotel to everyone, it's a real treat! Can't wait to come back!
Review 12:The apartment (for four) is in another building, which is fine. But I was disappointed when checked in. I checked photos of that apartment before made the resevation. In the photo, it seems to be in the old house with traditional style. This is the main reason I chose Burg Hotel. But we stay in the morden building and room, it is very comfortable though.
Review 13:Very spacy and comfortable. I love the beds, soft & clean towel and the amenities. The location is excellent, next to the garden and central area. The owner is very considerate and down to detail. I wish I could turn my home like that apartment.
Review 14:everything was top shelf: staff and amenities! old world ambiance. modern bath and the most comfortable bed! generous breakfast. accommodating to lodgers, and especially helpful to tourist questions and requests. i could go on.... i was so happy here!
Review 15:We stayed in the villa and had a wonderful time. Otto, the owner of the hotel was very helpful and kind. Would strongly recommend the villa for a large group. The breakfast in the hotel was delicious
Review 16:When we came in we saw that the room wasnt the one we had booked. Upon our exit we saw that we had to pay for a river view room ( the one we had booked) but not the one we stayed. The lady told us that we had a very good view to buildings and a yard. Too bad that such tactics spoil a very good impression. I wouldnt stay there again because I hate the tactic of misleeding.
Review 17:it was perfect but...
Review 18:Nothing that I didn't like. If saying something, they don't really have free parking lots, we needed to pay for it each day.
Review 19:All really good! Service, facilities and location. Wonderful stay in a beautiful town. Highly recommended Ana and Ferro
Review 20:Do not have one complaint about the hotel or out stay.
Review 21:The staff was amazingly friendly and helpful even calling before our stay to make sure we got the room that would make us the happiest. The breakfast was amazing and had a lot to choose from even having a egg cooked by request. Would happily stay here over and over again. The views were gorgeous and we easily walked wherever we wanted to go.
Review 22:Otto, the manager, was really nice. He helped us find a good parking spot and put a park pass on our car (while we were out shopping) so that we didn't get a ticket. The hotel was very clean, breakfast was great!
Review 23:We felt as if we were in a fairy tale. Beutifully situated on the city wall with a breathtaking view this hotel is a combination of well preserved history and up to date state of the art facilities. Extremely friendly staff. The only regret we had is the we could not stay a few more nights. Highly recommend
Review 24:Rothenburg ob der Tauber is a magical place and the Burghotel occupies the best location in town. The hotel occupies a niche in the city wall and overlooks the valley... Simply stunning. The staff is superb and very friendly. A quick story of one of several positive experiences there. Parking in Rothenburg is scarce and sometimes difficult due to the medieval streets. I drove straight to the hotel, where the manager "made" me a spot right out front and then told me he would take care of the "parking" (metered). He did just that, ensuring that my car had a valid parking pass for every day I was there... and didn't charge me! Rothenburg should be on your Germany "must see" list and the Burghotel should be your "must stay". Oh, one more... I typically shy away from a sunnyside-up egg as they are never done properly (with uncooked white - yecch!), but the young lady who did the eggs there could have taught a Master's Class in how to properly prepare a fried egg! Loved the place!
Review 25:Weekends tend to be extremely crowded, with at 09.30 already busses dumping herds of tourists flooding the city
Review 26:Hotel well located along the wall surrounding the village. Beautiful to strall inside the walls to see the typical towers and houses. Next day a walk outside the walls is a nice addition.
Review 27:This is the most impressive hotel we stayed at during our trip around Europe. The hotel family were exceptionally pleasant and welcoming, and we felt it was a pleasure to stay at The Burghotel. Shame it was just for one night. We definitely saved the best until last.
Review 28:The hotel is very nice, the boss is a good taste of the old man, or a 007 fan, if you're lucky if you can see the owner of the collection of 007 of the Aston Martin DB5, suite comes with two gardens, beautiful, you can count the stars at night in the garden,
Review 29:Our GPS totally misled us and we ended up in the valley by the double bridge. We should have just headed towards the town centre and checked the map.
Review 30:Spectacular view of Tauber valley. Beautiful and unique hotel built on 1000 year old medieval wall. Friendly staff. Otto the kindly gentleman at the reception treated us like old friends and was always warm and very helpful. Breakfast was delicious. 3 bedroom apartment felt like a home away from home.
Review 31:There was absolutely nothing that we disliked about Burghotel.
Review 32:I can honestly say that i think this is the best hotel I have ever stayed at. It was more like a B&B. The owners and staff were absolutely wonderful. We stayed a day longer than planned because we felt so at home there from the moment we walked in the door.
Review 33:Otto was such a personable host and we couldn't have asked for nicer service. Our room was beautiful and tidy and the breakfast was hot and delicious. We will be back to the Burg hotel for sure!
Review 34:Beautiful property Great location very large suite with terrace Delicious and generous breakfasts Wonderfully friendly and helpful owner Good wifi Quiet and restful
Review 35:Didn't know the apartment we selected had a few flights of stairs. One of our group members had limited mobility, so it was just a surprise.
Review 36:Great Family business and friendly, helpful hosts! Charming location built into the city wall, close to the park, and a short walk to the town square. Lovely breakfast room and made-to-order eggs with fresh squeezed juice.
Review 37:No complaints
Review 38:Superb hotel. The rooms were spacious and elegant down to the little details, the staff was pleasant and helpful, the location was great (short walk to everything, right next to the gardens, overlooking the countryside), and the breakfast was very nice. Best stay I've had in a while.
Review 39:* Nothing. I wish I could stay longer.
Review 40:* Old and beautiful villa with so nice view of the valley * The owner is a gentleman, old and very very nice. * Room is also very beautiful with traditional decoration and a balcony. * Breakfast is great. So man choices and good views around. * Good location, quiet but close to the center.
Review 41:Had to carry baggage up 3 flights. Would have been great it a dumb waiter could be installed to lift baggage.
Review 42:Lovely hotel built into the town wall. Beautiful vista particularly lovely from the breakfast room.
Review 43:Nothing!
Review 44:This Hotel is a quiet get away in a City that is touristy but lovely. We got up early and walked the wall and then returned for a delicious and scenic breakfast. We quickly shopped the stores and then escaped the walls and hiked through the. Valley. That evening we hit the private Burg spa...rented for two hours and then hit the quiet streets for dinner. Perfect. Otto and his daughter , the innkeepers, are treasures. Felt welcome from the first second....and the views!!! Stayed in room #7....highly recommend
Review 45:If it has a kitchen then it would be even better.
Review 46:The two bedrooms apartment is beautiful. Decoration is vintage and we like it very much. It has two bathrooms and one of it is rather spacious. Another one is also large enough. The view from the hotel main buidling is extremely good. Parking is in front of our apartment and it's free of charge.
Review 47:We stayed in the three bedroom suite. It was like having our own separate wing with its own entrance and balcony. The room was a nice blend of old and new. The bathroom was modern with all amenities. The balcony had a view that was utterly breathtaking. We only stayed one night and wish that we had stayed longer. Rothenburg is an amazing city. The staff was extremely accommodating and the breakfast was great (eggs cooked to order) and small buffet
Review 48:This is a lovely, romantic hotel situated right on the wall, overlooking the valley. Otto and Gabrielle are owner/operators and they are delightful accommodating folks. It was a lovely experience for my wife and I. Location was perfect-- quiet street just 3 blocks from main square of the alt stadt. It was a 9/10 experience.
Review 49:There wasn't one thing we were displeased with.
Review 50:Our room (#7) was so pretty it made me teary-eyed. Four-poster bed in a room with a great view. We watched an amazing sunset and saw a field full of sheep from the bedroom window. We had an extra room with a daybed and a huge bathroom with a full-sized tub and shower (which is rare for European hotels). There was also a small minibar that worked on the honor system. You take what you want, mark it off on a sheet, and bring the sheet to the desk when you check out. Parking is available in a garage down the street. We were allowed to leave our car there after we checked out so we could continue exploring. The owner/proprietor was a lovely older gentleman who you could readily tell loves his job. He spoke perfect English (and many other languages, I'm sure) and was very helpful providing us with an English-language map and a restaurant recommendation. Other staff were extremely nice and accommodating as well, particularly the woman who served us at breakfast. We were the last ones to eat (it looked like they were about to clean everything up) and she still offered to make us eggs. We declined and instead partook of the varied buffet, which included all sorts of breads, cheeses, meats, yogurts, cereals, etc. Plenty to choose from and all very tasty. The hotel is built into the wall surrounding the town at the end of a small cobblestone road. Location doesn't matter much in Rothenberg though because it's such a small town. We only stayed one night, but wish we had stayed longer.
Review 51:Rooms were not luxurious but they were very comfortable.
Review 52:Staff was terrific. Helpful, friendly and efficient. Breakfast was simple but a huge value when compared to the room cost.
Review 53:Only driving through the narrow roads but that's what old towns have.
Review 54:Loved Rothenburg ob der Tauber! Wonderful medieval town. The Burg Hotel was like something out of a fairytale. Wonderful room.one to remember!
Review 55:We booked this place at the last minute as we traveled through Europe. We loved everything about it and recommend staying here for everyone. The room was clean and really large. Staying here is definitely on my list for our return trip.
Review 56:Location fantastic. Stayed in an apartment that was huge and full of character. Very friendly, helpful manager. Excellent evening meal at the hotel's restaurant that was separate across the road.
Review 57:we had the apartment for six and it was fabulous! It was nice to have a living room, a balcony over-looking the Tauber valley, and garage parking. The owner was super nice and helpful!
Review 58:Staying in this hotel is like stepping into a fairy tale. Our room had a beautiful canopy over the bed and the window boxes were overflowing with flowers. The owner is charming and helpful. The breakfast was the best I had in Germany.
Review 59:The rooms we had were lovely, each decorated in an unique way and each very comfortable. Bathrooms were roomy and had all the essentials. Downstairs was lovely and the staff was wonderful. Breakfast was an added bonus - lots of fresh delicious choices and a wonderful to start the day in Rotenburg.
Review 60:A bit hot without AC but it was quiet enough to keep all the windows open
Review 61:The location was excellent- just inside city walls and very quiet. We had the 3BR family suite with 1.5 bathrooms, kitchen and balcony. Wonderful! Otto in the front office was so friendly and helpful! Wish we could have stayed longer! Wifi was excellent.
Review 62:Climbing the the 3rd floor on a circular stairway. I think this was specific to our room / appartment whcih was in a separate building. Also, the main bathroom had ants in the toilet areas. When I told the proprietor, he said that he was expecting them any day and would put down ant bait to try to kill the nest.
Review 63:Nice location and very quiet and private.
Review 64:The photos of the hotel did not reflect the annex we stayed in which whilst clean was dated. We had a family suite which had three bedrooms, two adjoining doubles with no door in between(?) and a separate single. A bathroom with two toilets in it and a shower room with no toilet, the layout just didn't work. It is an old building but it is not suitable for anything more than a night. It was £166 per night not including breakfast, which had we been in the main building would have been acceptable but an annex up the road is very different to what is shown on the hotel site. Otto was a golden nugget and my husband and I would go back as he is very genuine but only of we were guaranteed a room in the main building which is beautiful. We didn't even realise there was a spa as we were stuck round the corner.
Review 65:Otto was superb, parking in the Burghotel car park was secure and the location was fabulous.
Review 66:Room #1 was a romantic suite with canopy bed at the end of the hall - a relatively private garden and it was just so quaint and romanic! Decorated with lovely period decor. Loved this place!!
Review 67:Everything was great. The staff were pleasant and helpful.the breakfast was nice and the rooms were great with plenty of atmosphere. Highly recommend.
Review 68:The hotel is in a nice location and has a private garage. The room was very pleasant. There is a small garden and tables with a view overlooking the surrounding countryside. We would stay there again, .
Review 69:No lift but impossible to do since heritage listed property.
Review 70:Happy friendly welcoming staff, who were interested in us as travellers. Built a strong personal connection.
Review 71:A beautiful hotel in a fantastic location with a wonderful décor and very helpful and friendly staff. The rooms are very spacious which is a rarity in European hotels. We have stayed in this hotel before and look forward to staying in the hotel again. Of all the hotels we stayed in during our 6 week trip in Europe this was without doubt the best one, we just loved it. This excellent hotel is in a fantastic location in a beautiful town.
Review 72:Having to leave - such a lovely place with its private garden.
Review 73:Location was perfect for seeing the Old Town and having a view that made me feel we were on top of the world. Yes we were on top of the city wall!
Review 74:We booked a room at this adorable, historic looking Inn, looking forward to a cozy, authentic German Inn experience. When we checked in we were led up the street to an apartment in a different building that was sterile and devoid of character. The floor was dirty, and the rooms had an unfinished quality, for example there was no floor molding between the walls and floor, making the rooms look unfinished. Additionally, the downstairs resident was a smoker, filling our rooms with the smell of smoke. We should have been informed when we booked a room at the "Inn", that we would not be staying in the Inn, but in a sterile, dorm-like apartment. We then would have had the option to book in a place with more character in charming Rothenburg.
Review 75:Location and views from the windows. The apartment was spacious.
Review 76:Thank you Otto for his wonderful restaurant tips and info about Rottenburg. The burghotel is amazing and itself is already a sight-seeing hotspot (visitors keep taking photos in front of the hotel entrance). We love the sunset view from our private terrace and enjoy counting the sheep grazing on the hillslope. Looking forward to coming back to the beautiful Burg Schlosschen again!
Review 77:Could use a couple of bigger pots/pans in the kitchen.
Review 78:The apartment was very spacious for a family of 4. Went to nearby grocery store and made breakfast and dinner in each day. Gave us a real rest from restaurant eating after 3 weeks traveling. The fans were so great.(heat wave while we were there)
Review 79:Lovely hotel with attention to detail great position on the edge of the town bi thin the walls and a wonderful view from the breakfast room. Breakfast was good and service was excellent.
Review 80:Rothenburg is filled with tourists, you'll enjoy it so much more if you stay inside the town wall and have the chance to see it prior to the arrival of the tour buses. It's a magical, picture perfect town in the evening and early morning. The Burg hotel is fantastic. We had a family apartment for 2 nights, plenty of room for everyone to spread out. Took a daytrip to Wurzburg, less than an hours drive. Make this hotel a base for a few nights, you won't regret it!
Review 81:We stayed in the Suite Burgschlosschen and it could not have been more charming. It was a perfect mix of old world features and modern comforts (beautiful modern bath, fans in each bedroom). Breakfast was delicious and the views amazing. The warmth and hospitality of the owner's father were a highlight of our stay. We were so glad we included Rothenburg and the Burg in our itinerary and would have loved to stay longer!
Review 82:I rented the studio apartment with kitchen and found out we were sharing it with the owners family members. No security as far as locking up the apartment. No air conditioner. What we mainly rented for, Kitchen was not used. Would not want to lean on canopy bed it was very unstable.
Review 83:Location and wifi was great
Review 84:It is important that you note which section of the property you are staying in. I was actually relieved that my road weary teens were not in the main portion of the hotel and instead in this lovely very family friendly apartment style lodging. The old world charm of the main house would have been lost on my guys. No elevator, or a/c but again, by this point in our journey we appreciate these as the norms within Germany. Location of windows was such that we enjoyed wonderful cross ventilation within the apartment.
Review 85:We stayed here after an extended holiday in various towns. When I booked this room, I wasn't paying attention, and selected the "annex apartment" (or something along those lines). We stayed in a very spacious apartment that had more than enough space for our group and bonus: 2 bathrooms. Very friendly staff, modern furnishings despite the property having an older feel to it. Location within Rothenburg was great and parking was in a secure facility, that was spacious by German standards.
Review 86:Tour buses show up with mobs of people around 9 am. Tour this town later in the evening and early in the morning to avoid crowds.
Review 87:beautiful old building right on the city wall. Our apartment slept our family of 6 fine, with two BRs upstairs and the master BR on main level. We arrived in town around 5 pm and had Rothenburg pretty much to ourselves that evening and early the following morning. Breakfast was great. This is a very interesting old town. We really enjoyed it until the tour buses arrived.
Review 88:Beautiful property, amazing staff and a great breakfast, what is there to complain about?
Review 89:From the moment we arrived, the staff were extremely helpful and friendly. They genuinely care about their guest and they quality of their experience there. The property itself is beautiful and is actually within the city wall at the lower side of Rothenberg. It has a great view of the valley below. The breakfast room and terrace are on top of the rampart. The breakfast was very good also. We spent 21/2 weeks traveling across Europe, and this was by far one of our favorite stays. I can't say enough good things about the property and the owners and staff. If you are visiting Rothenberg, you must stay at the Burghotel.
Review 90:The apartment suited our family of 5 very well. Old world charm - the hotel is built into the old city wall. Very pleasant and friendly staff. Everything we wanted to see in Rothenburg was in walking distance.
Review 91:The only complaint any of us had was that the shower in this apartment was kind of tight, probably on the order of 30"x30". It's in a huge bathroom, so it's kind of hard to understand why they didn't make it larger.
Review 92:We stayed in the apartment, as opposed to a "normal" room in the hotel. The apartment is actually in a separate building, right across the street from the main hotel. It has three bedrooms (the third one we didn't even need/use), a kitchen, a living/dining area, and a *huge* (probably 10'x10') bathroom, with a tub, shower, and double sink. Very nice! Plus, next to the main bathroom was a separate little room with another toilet in it, so that two people at once could use the "facilities". Also, the apartment has windows on three sides of it, so you can open the windows at night and get a nice cross breeze. And there were fans in the bedrooms, which we used as well. We slept very well here. The man at the front desk was an older guy named Otto, who was very friendly, welcoming, and helpful. He gave us some tips on what to go check out in Rothenburg. A really nice guy! This hotel is literally on the edge of town, being located on the western wall of the town. The breakfast room looks out over the Tauber valley (beautiful views!), and there's a little terrace outside where we had our breakfast both mornings. Really peaceful out there and the nicest place we had breakfast on our entire trip. The people that own this hotel also own a restaurant on the next street over, and you can cut through a little walkway from the hotel to the restaurant. It has a nice seating area outside, with a very pleasant garden, and it was a great place to take a break one afternoon and have a drink.
Review 93:The owners are kind, warm & very professional. The hotel is simply superb - beautiful, quiet, and the service is outstanding. This was our third stay at the hotel and each time has been excellent.
Review 94:I just wish they had an ac. Although that's a common issue across Europe the acs are not the strongest.
Review 95:I loved the location And the quaintness of the room. The staff are very friendly and the overall size of the room was very good for our family of four.
Review 96:None
Review 97:Just like Burghotel !!! Nice and kindly owners ,Good breakfast, A wonderful luxury Steinway grand piano in b1, Comfortable room , High speed Wifi ...
Review 98:the information of the place is not clear actually we booked for 10 pax which actually we can stay in one Villa, according to what we learned later. Then we have to devised to be two group which it would be great if we can spend time together. The two places are not close to each other. And the place where is closed to hotel has 2 bath but one toilet.
Review 99:we stayed in one villa and one floor of the sharing house. Villa is a bit out of time which is fine if you have car. It's spacious with 4 bedrooms and well decorated with little things, like we were invited to stay in the owner Villa. Yes they lived there before. The garden and view is splendid. We love this place. Another place is not far from the hotel and resterant is also well located. We stayed on the top floor. The owner family is very kind and lovely their restaurant is very good too.
Review 100:Nothing.
Review 101:Everything. Staff all very good; in particular, the most gracious gentleman at the front desk. Our suite overlooking the valley simply superb. Excellent breakfast & perfect location within Rothenburg - quiet, yet close to all.
Review 102:My only complaint was didn't stay an entire week.
Review 103:Hotel is part of the historic/medieval wall (burg). The scenery isamazing. Staff was outstanding, can't imagine a better place inBavaria to stay. Everything about this property was exactly what we hadlooked for and wanted in a town like Rothenburg.
Review 104:We loved this hotel! It was in a great location on the wall and overlooking the beautiful valley bellow. We especially enjoyed staying in the 3 bedroom suite with the balcony. The interior was incredible and the views were stunning. The breakfast room was a delight with a fresh and delicious breakfast. It was also a perfect location to explore the winding and magical village.
Review 105:We could not stay longer - that was the only thing I did not like...
Review 106:The most amazing view across the valley!! Friendly and the besthospitality from all staff. Comfortable and very luxurious rooms.
Review 107:I didn't like that we couldn't stay longer.
Review 108:This hotel is beautiful, cozy, and set within the walls of Rothenburg ob der Tauber. Their restaurant serves absolutely delicious meals, their breakfast is served in an area of the hotel overlooking the prettiest landscapes I've seen. The staff were the most welcoming I've ever encountered, I felt like a guest in their home and that I was almost a part of their family. One night we were going back out to walk and the older gentleman that usually watches the front told me he couldn't let me go out without a sweater, that it gets too chilly after dark. <3 They've put thought into every detail and genuinely care for their guests.
Review 109:The staff were helpful and friendly and made us feel right at home. The room was much more spacious and beautifully decorated. We didn't expect such a high standard as we only booked that morning very quickly while eating breakfast. Our only regret is that we only stayed one night!
Review 110:-
Review 111:With some misunderstanding at booking, we ended up staying at the villa instead of the main hotel but there's no regrets! The villa itself is super uber lovely and spacious, I think one night here is not enough. However, the best thing about this hotel is the host, Otto is really the nicest and most helpful host!
Review 112:I heard someone mentioning no elevator! Well, so what!! Parking garage can be tight but I could also have a smaller car!!
Review 113:Great location at end of street, (quiet). Charming Mr. Berger at front desk. Clean, clean, clean beautiful rooms. Nice breakfast room and breakfast. Value and quality !! Yes. You can really tell the owners love their hotel We will be back in July.
Review 114:Staff very friendly. Beautiful sunset from all window. Amenities (eletrical warmer water, fan and iron in the bedroom). Breakfest simple, but very good. Near everything.i
Review 115:On site parking was a bit challenging; a tight fit for bigger vehicles, but cheaper than parking other places.
Review 116:The room wa spacious and we had a great view of the Tauber river. The location was excellent; only a short walk from the main square, restaurants, and the museums.
Review 117:Whilst our family apartment was spacious & modern the hotel where we had breakfast was charming with lots of character. Breakfast was delicious with nice views.
The Fine Print
