Reviews for Hotel Gasthof Zum Breiterle

Review 1:Staff were very friendly and welcoming. I called ahead just in case I did not make the 6PM check in time, and the staff assured me this was not a problem. The room was very clean and inviting. I liked the amount of lighting, since several places we stayed at in Germany lacked good lighting. Breakfast was good as well. Location was perfect with parking available. Upon arrival the staff shared information about the 8PM city tour "the night watchman tour", in English, which was absolutely amazing! Thank you to them for the heads up!

Review 2:Hotel facility was not too bad. But the staff of the hotel was terrible. It was totally disaster. I can not recommand this hotel even though good price and good location.

Review 3:The beds are rock hard. The rooms next to the street are very noisy, which surprised me because you wouldn't think there would be so much traffic for this village. Mold all over the bathrooms and the towels were pretty thread bare.

Review 4:Loved the charming village.

Review 5:Bathroom toilet seat was loose on mountings. Heating was turned down to minimum. Had to adjust thermostats on radiators in both bathroom and bedroom as freezing cold. Once adjusted just fine. Had incident with evening meal where overcharged by €2 which was suspicious. Anyway following morning refunded as we checked out. Anyway as seasoned travellers we recommend this hotel as one of the best regardless of price. Parking was just across street. Location adjacent to one of the walls gates with a more realistically priced supermarket just a few minutes walk away.

Review 6:Superior old world hotel with everything you would expect in a Medieval Walled Town. Creaky stairs, painted wooden panels and that atmospheric Germanic smell of food. The only thing missing was a suit of armour. Breakfast was excellent. Food in restaraunt was authentic traditional German. Room was large and comfortable. Spotlessly clean. View of cobbled street from window just added to the olde world appeal. Very good value.

Review 7:nothing

Review 8:We like this Gasthof because the staff and owner treat us as family, are warm and friendly. They helped us find a chocolate making project to attend! Great experience. As we left the day cook and the owner sent us away with home baked cookies and their Schneeballs (their traditional baked goods). This is at least our 4th time staying here and we will be back!

Review 9:The reception we received on arrival. We arrived at 8.45pm after a very long journey. When we arrived at the hotel it was locked up. After ringing the bell and knocking the door for 10 mons the owner appeared from across the road. His greeting was extremely unpleasant and blamed us for not letting him know we were arriving late despite me receiving confirmation from Booking.com that our late arrival had been confirmed. He then offered us the wrong room not the apartment we had booked. I've used this hotel 3 times before but unlikely to return.

Review 10:Location and value for money

Review 11:No lift. Had to carry luggage up 2 flights of stairs.

Review 12:Location was excellent. Fairly close to train station and very close to old town. Staff were exceptional. Breakfast was excellent. Dinner in restaurant was very good.

Review 13:Great location. Friendly staff. We had no problem with leaving our luggage for a couple of hours after checkout. Quiet location while still being close to the center of the old town.

Review 14:This was my wife first trip to Europe. She wished the beds were more comfortable. She had never slept on a European bed before. Other than that everything else was great.i

Review 15:The location was great not to far from the train station. Easy to get to the different location in Rothenburg. The breakfast was excellent each morning. The staff took very good care of us. The restaurant was also great. Over all great place to stay we had a great view from our window.

Review 16:Not enough towels/ soap/ toilet paper. No washcloth.

Review 17:The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Location was excellent, just steps away from the wall, and about a 5 min walk from the marktplatz. Breakfast buffet was good, with plenty of options. Lunch and dinner are good as well. The room was clean and cozy. Bed was comfortable, extra blanket in the wardrobe. Single room included a sofa and a small table.

Review 18:no elevators in the hotel

Review 19:A good clean hotel in the old town area. The walk up to the hotel might sound short, but it gets difficult to pull heavy stuff through cobblestones. The rooms are well furnished and sleep quality is good if you are facing the opposite side of the street.

Review 20:It is actually a restaurant plus hotel, the first one on your right once you enter the old gate. I nearly missed it the first time. The facility is modern but in a featured building! No elevator! Very nice complementary breakfast!

Review 21:Had to carry suitcase up three flights of stairs after requesting something on lower floors when we booked (my husband is 65 years old) only to be told there were other people staying longer (we stayed two nights) who were given preference! It would appear that if you go for the cheaper rooms, or specials as they call them, they are filling the rooms in the attic! And the pillows had no stuffing in them!! And no wifi in the room

Review 22:The view out the window

Review 23:Friendly and accommodating staff and the location was ideal. The restaurant was delicious and the breakfast was fulfilling. Great value for the money. Roomy and clean.

Review 24:no lift and elevator

Review 25:The hotel has excellent location, we can see it as once you enter the tiny city through the east gate! The breakfast was good and had many choice. Gave detailed instruction how to operate the rear door. Parking lot is just opposite the hotel!

Review 26:Dont intend to sleep in if you are in room 7. You will get traffic noise on the cobblestones early AM especially if the windows are open. Room could have used darker shades for light sensitive sleepers.

Review 27:Had room 7 which was two twins facing Rodergasse on third floor. Small room but fine for 1-2 nights and a couple of bags. Shower in room whas updated and rather spacious all things considered. Location of hotel was perfect. In the walls but not right on market square. The private parking lot was convenient, right across the street within the old walls. For €5.00 not bad. Breakfast was typical continental and highly adequate.

Review 28:The bed room was noisy from the street below. The room was small but all we needed was a place to sleep

Review 29:The location was good being in the town and making walking through the city very easy

Review 30:There is a charge for Wi-fi, and there is no computer available for use by the guests. The towels are thin and small. As with most hotels now, there is no clock in the room. Also, the hairdryer is annoying. You have to hold the button down constantly in order for it to work.

Review 31:Rothenberg This hotel has a great location, just inside the walls. The breakfast was okay, nothing special. There is no lift, so be prepared to carry your luggage up the stairs. The heat worked very well. You get two keys, one for the room and one for the night entrance.

Review 32:Beds were really hard. The road outside the hotel was very busy as it was one of the main roads around the market platz. As such it was noisy until 11 and then again at 6 am. Parking was off the street and 5E per night.

Review 33:It was located inside the walls of Rothenburg so close to the Market Place, restaurants, shopping. Restaurant in hotel was busy and the prices reasonable.

Review 34:Gorgeous old building right by (inside) the town wall. Gated car park just next door. Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Our "room" for 3 was huge, with 2 separate bedrooms, a siiting room and a new bathroom. Nice traditional decor Good breakfast.

Review 35:Absolutely no air condition in the entire building and being it was in August, it was unbearably hot in the room too the point we had to crack the door of the room to get a little comfort.

Review 36:Location

Review 37:Although there is a nice wardrobe in the room, the room is a little small for the three of us and for our luggage. The coffee machine, though it offered a lot of selection, works slowly, causing a line up of people.

Review 38:The staff were friendly and accommodating. When we asked for an extra key, they kindly gave us one. Breakfast was tasty and offered adequate selection. The room was clean, fairly quiet, and comfortable. We were able to open window to cool it down. Thank you for a quiet room.

Review 39:It was warm but they provided a fan which was good.

Review 40:very friendly staff, great location just inside the town walls, car parking across the road. Lovely breakfast. good WiFi.

Review 41:We were traveling with our 2 college age kids and the room was very spacious and comfortable for 4 adults....including the huge modern bathroom! The staff was very friendly and helpful and the location was great...with parking across the street! We had a wonderful stay there and would highly recommend this to others.

Review 42:The hotel did not respect our wish of a silent room, which we expressed in a reservation few weeks in advance. It was impossible to sleep in a room to a main street and we could not close the window because of the heat, as there was no AC on the room. Breakfast was poor.

Review 43:Good location in an old town, close to the main square.

Review 44:The weather was very hot and humid, but the room had no fan or A/C. It was very uncomfortable and hard to get some sleep.

Review 45:The hotel is conveniently close to the center of town. The breakfast was pretty good too!

Review 46:There really is not anything to dislike. The location is great- right near the wall, there is parking there should you need it, the rooms are sufficient, the food is very good.

Review 47:We loved the location, the room was perfect. We felt safe and secure. We had our own wifi so we didn't bother with the service offered. Breakfast was fantastic and we did eat dinner one night in the hotel restaurant, which was also very good. Would stay again without hesitation!

Review 48:Got upgraded to a 'bigger room', but turned out to be the worse room in the hotel. We were in Room #1 at the front of the hotel on a very hot night - so we had to keep the windows open and auto and walking traffic kept us awake most of the night. Do not accept Rooms # 1 or 2 during the summer months - you will regret it. Also, the hotel should have fans in the rooms for quests during the summer - it was miserable!

Review 49:Parking and location

Review 50:Not notified of being bumped off to secondary hotel prior to arrival and no off street parking. Would not have booked had I known.

Review 51:Friendly staff. Inner city with short walk to everything of interest. Nice breakfast.

Review 52:Can't think of a thing that we didn't like.

Review 53:The location is perfect for seeing all of the old city. The family that operates the guesthouse were most helpful when it came to suggesting places to eat and things to see.

Review 54:The restaurant was closed every time we tried to eat there (one time at around 9 pm and the other at around 3 pm)

Review 55:Great location, everything was very clean. Very convenient parking just across the street on a private, gated lot.

Review 56:NONE

Review 57:We have stayed here before and will again in the future. Owners/staff great! Clean, comfortable, old world charm. Feels like home! Generous & tasty breakfast.

Review 58:No elevator, street can be very noisy as vehicles are passing by throughout the day and night

Review 59:Hotel very convenient for touring around the little town, all attractions are within walking distance from the hotel.

Review 60:Receptionist was not service mind and not welcome. Ours group had trip for 3 country in Europe and 6 hotels by booking. Receptionist make we not happy when we walk in hotel. Case on May 29,2015

Review 61:Good location , Room and Food were good.

Review 62:Perfect location to explore the old town. Car parking couldn't have been closer. Quiet location, plenty of restaurants, shops etc near by. Good old fashioned personal service.

Review 63:We stayed a single night and the restaurant downstairs was closed (Sunday night) which we were sad because the food smelled fantastic. Given the quality of breakfast the dinner I would expect to be excellent

Review 64:Great staff, rooms are very nice (by European ans North American standards) with a great location

Review 65:There was no electrical outlet in the bathroom, nor near any mirrors, for my wife to use hair dryer / curling iron. The hotel was noisy due to its location right next to a city gate, which meant there was traffic exiting at night and entering early in the morning.

Review 66:The hotel's historic look was attractive, simple but cute. The hotel and room were clean and adequate. Easy to get to, both arriving by car and walking in the old town. Parking was provided in a private lot across the street, a real benefit.

Review 67:The staff was very helpful in recommending restaurants and tours. (The Night Watchman tour is an absolute must-in English!) The location with its secure parking is within easy walking distance of the city center. Park your car and leave it alone during your stay. The room was spotless and breakfast was fresh and filling. Absolutely no complaints at all.

Review 68:This hotel is on a good location and have friendly staff. we arrived here at 8 pm because traffic jam but staff was waiting for us and had a good welcome. love this place

Review 69:Toilet wasn't clean when we got in to the room.staff ok but not over friendly. Parking costs which is not acceptable in many countries. . We were there for 4 nights

Review 70:Simplicity

Review 71:There were many ants on the beds and table. We tried to remove the ants but there were too many of them. Its quite disturbing.

Review 72:Hotel is located near the entrance of the town. Just few mins walk to the town and away from the crowd. Closer to the train station to catch an early train.

Review 73:This was my first time using Booking.com and I must say that each one of the hotels booked through the site were distinctly genuine, representing the community. This hotel was no different and the location was superb.

Review 74:Price-Excellent value for the price Location-Just inside the city walls, a five minute walk to the town center, on a quiet street Breakfast-Included in the price, nice selection Parking-Included in the price, directly across the street Room-We had a lovely triple on the top floor with views across the town

Review 75:awkward entrance with low doorway. breakfast did not start early. bread rolls were frozen part baked type not fresh from bakery. sliced meat for breakfast was sour tasting. terrible bed and pillows. noisy room. no effort put into the place.

Review 76:close to the center

Review 77:Had to pay 10Euros/day for wi-fi; Nowhere to make your own tea/coffee, so every cup had to be purchased; Everything closed at 8pm so when we came in one evening after dining out, a cuppa was not available. Rooms upstairs so heavy luggage an issue as no lifts.

Review 78:Parking available across the road. Reasonable buffet spread of cold meat, cheese, bread for breakfast; boiled eggs, cereals (muesli had choc chips in it!?); Although the front dining area closed at 8pm, there was an area we could sit in and play cards one evening that was warm. Receptionist was very friendly.

Review 79:Not enough lighting in hallways and stairs. Specially the stairs to third floor, it's an old building of course, but the steps are a little small and with so little lighting I took them slow and carefully.

Review 80:If you are arriving by train it's a great location, inside the walls but close to the gate and less than five minutes to the center square. Single room was comfortable so was the bathroom. Very nice breakfast already included in price.

Review 81:Be wary if you cannot carry your bag up the stairs as there is no lift.

Review 82:We loved this place. Close to everything. We parked the car and didn't need it. I loved the history of the accommodation . The breakfast was excellent. good food at the restaurant.

Review 83:Great place with in the walls. Easy walk in town. Just across from the city wall entrance. Which man it a nice morning walk Parking across the street was a plus Great breakfast

Review 84:The walls were a bit thin and at times we could hear others in the hotel (upstairs, the entrance "buzzer" after hours, etc.). Minimal distruption, though.

Review 85:location, location, location! Inside the wall, and affordable. Decent breaksfast. Clean. Safe.

Review 86:In morning time due to traffic room was very noisy Even I mentioned that we would arrive late they didn't heat the room we had been freezed and couldn't heat it properly until morning outside was minus 4

Review 87:Location was good

Review 88:I didn't like my room - I requested a street view but I was in the back facing a wall. I did not have a phone in my room and the tv was from the 50's. The room was really cold and it took almost all night to warm up and that was with the thermostat at high and the one in the bathroom was on high. The hotel staff left around 10 p.m. and I would have had to come in a back door down an alley if I came in later than that. Obviously I was in my room before they left. Breakfast was included, but it wasn't served until 8 a.m. I left so I could catch the 8 o'clock train. Breakfast should be served at 6:30 like most hotels.

Review 89:I wouldn't stay here again nor would I recommend it to anyone.

Review 90:The restaurant was closed the night we were there.

Review 91:We liked the staff, very nice, and spoke great english, which is very helpful for us. The room was really nice, spacious, and clean.

Review 92:You have an option of 2 hrs wifi connection for 3 euros or 24 hours for 5 euros. We paid for 24 hours, however it cut out when we apparently reached a limit. We still had 18 hours left. This was not specified at time of purchase.

Review 93:Room was excellent Staff were very nice and helpful Bed was comfortable Room was clean Location was very convenient Breakfast was varied

Review 94:The restaurant was closed, except for breakfast, and it was a steep climb to our room; but we knew, in advance, that the property was "old style" .

Review 95:The location could not have been better. Secure parking and a reasonably priced spot within the city walls get this hotel high grades.

Review 96:It would be good to have a mini-fridge in the room, and some basics like coffee and mugs. There are stairs - I suspect this is true of everywhere in this medieval town though. The breakfast is fine but basic (and this was true of everywhere we stayed in Germany). Most of the staff were excellent but there was one who was quite rude to my husband for no apparent reason.

Review 97:The internet was extra but it was only 5 or so euro for 24 usage hours. That more than lasted us for our 3 day stay. We could also use two devices at the same time, and the speed was good. Room was comfortable. Modern bathroom. Location is excellent. I have stayed here twice so that shows that I would recommend it.

Review 98:Paid wifi Too early checkout at 10:30 when we barely checked in around 9pm at nite

Review 99:Free parking Comfortable twin room cosy and clean Clean bath n towels Decent breakfast inclus

Review 100:Beds very hard. Pillows impossible! No support and wholly inadequate.

Review 101:Staff very helpful and friendly. Food very good. Room very clean. Parking good

Review 102:We were on the first floor at the front corner of the building. We had 3 windows providing lots of light and air. The room was small, but we had enough space to move around easily. The bathroom consisted of a sink, toilet and shower and while also small, was satisfactory. There was also a desk and an armoire in the room. The location was excellent and parking was provided in a lot across the street. That's a welcome addition in Rothenburg where parking is at a premium.

Review 103:Paid wifi, but on the bright side it was only 5€ for 24 hours, do not bad. Parking is small, so it will be tight fit parking.

Review 104:Hotel location was excellent, plus it had free parking and breakfast!

Review 105:A month before, because of difficulty in climbing stairs, I requested a first floor room. When I arrived ca. 1:30 p.m. there were no rooms on the floor, and I had to climb the narrow winding stairs to the second floor (three stories above ground). The type of slippery floor covering caused me to slip on the stairs...granted I was attempting to depart with a back pack and a 22 inch case.

Review 106:Good breakfast; location was an intermediate one between train and main square.

Review 107:No Wifi, not a huge deal, but makes it rough when traveling and working

Review 108:The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was quiet, neat and clean, we stayed in the back part of the building and on the top floor in fall so it was warm and had a little bit of a view. We were able to walk all around town from our location and it is right next to the wall so we were able to walk right up on it and all around the city.

Review 109:beds not too comfy Cars drive too fast on cobblestone road outside hotel (loud) bring earplugs. This is everywhere in the city though. no free wifi

Review 110:great location great Breakfast (included) Free parking across the street great staff

Review 111:Internet is not free and there is no elevator. In my case, I can carry my own suitase, but it should be taken into account.

Review 112:I liked the comfort, the looks, the breakfast and the location

Review 113:The room is a little bit small, but it's ok for short stays.

Review 114:If you travel by car this hotel is perfect because is situated inside the city walls and it has parking (for about 10 cars). The staff is polite, the rooms are clean and the breakfast is good. It's not the kind of accommodation that will leave you a long lasting memory, but everyhing is ok and considering the location and free parking is a good value for the money.

Review 115:Small rooms. My single room was very basic with no view. Our double room did have view but only had one chair.

Review 116:Location in old town. Friendly staff. Roomy bathroom. Clean. Excellent breakfast.

Review 117:Excellent location within the town walls, and in short walking distance of both town center and train station. Staff at the desk very pleasant. Good breakfast.

Review 118:We enjoyed the area and the hotel but it did not have a bar/resturant that was open at night. Great little room though and good location. We would stay there again.

Review 119:The first visit 5 years ago they had no wi-fi. This time, they did have a wi-fi hotspot for a 5 euro/day fee. Unfortunately, the service was slow and very spotty - logon often took forever on the iPhone or the laptop. I would not bother paying for this again. I got better internet with my iPhone German SIM card.

Review 120:We were here about 5 years ago and it was very nice. On this visit, the rooms had been completely renovated and were even nicer. Our room had a table and 2 chairs, a small desk/counter as well as the double/twin beds. Bathroom was nice and fairly roomy. Breakfast buffet was excellent.

Review 121:Walls were very thin so I could hear the TV in the next room and all of the traffic outside, however, it was generally in a quiet area.

Review 122:GREAT location, one of the best breakfast spreads I have ever had! Room was cozy and staff was friendly.

Review 123:Excellent location, Very comfortable beds, Very clean and the apartment is excellent value for money!! Rothenburg is possibly one of the most prettiest places I've visited and a well kept German secret!! The locals are extremely friendly and very welcoming, I'll definately be returning!! :-) Fabulous food and beer too :-)

Review 124:No free wifi and no worth paying 7 euros for it. The room will mostlikely suck in the summer The bed is way to small and the mattress alittle too uncomfortable The window is really small and doesn'treally open.

Review 125:The location is perfect and it has free parking right around the corner. The free breakfast is a great bonus and it has quite a variety!

Review 126:Stairs to top floor room, especially at night. Lack of soap for washing hands; small shampoo packets were apparently intended to serve for this purpose as well.

Review 127:Staff were responsive to requests, including a second pillow and refill on morning coffee.

Review 128:The bed seemed very small and flimsy, not really big enough for a couple. I was concerned it was going to break during the night so I wasn't able to sleep.

Review 129:Friendly staff and an excellent location inside the city walls.

Review 130:The facilities are not very modern.

Review 131:Great location - 5 minutes of walk from the town center. Staff are nice and helpful. The complimentary breakfast is fresh and delicious. Also the free parking across the street of the hotel is super convenient.

Review 132:absolutely nothing!

Review 133:We had a wonderful staying, staff was very nice and breakfast so rich and gorgeous! Rooms are clean and big and bathroom is a real one. We spent just one night, but this place deserves al least 2!
