Reviews for Matamanoa Island Resort

Review 1:Beautiful island. Very friendly and welcoming islanders. For a true Fiji experience stay here and not as expensive as the mainland for meals! We loved it and would go back.

Review 2:The cocktails were a bit expensive! Otherwise drinks and food were reasonably priced.

Review 3:Incredible staff, so personal and cheerful. Brilliant snorkelling all around the island. Other people at hotel were great.

Review 4:Nothing, go to matamanoa!

Review 5:Everything was so good Great welcome from hole the crew Nice rooms with airco Great view/sunsets Infinity pool Very good restaurant It's our favorite in FIJI!

Review 6:No privacy for the private pool villa, breakfast was very average, the bird problem was known to staff yet we had baby birds crying under our villa every night (which would be distressing to any parent). Everyday we had people not staying in the private villas walking through our garden and taking photos. The "private side" of the villas as per accom description is not correct. Any guest can access this beach by walking through a villa side entrance.

Review 7:Bed was excellent size, lunch & dinner was beautiful, location was stunning. The villa was very comfortable & well appointed.

Review 8:Sunblock is $50, so bring heaps. Three bottles wasn't enough for us. Also bring some snacks as sometimes we were so busy out and about snorkelling we missed lunch and were super hungry by dinner. The food at this restaurant was good. I wasn't expecting that after some reviews. Prices were comparable to everywhere else in Fiji. The only comment I'd make about the dinner is they tried to be fancy western, but they were lacking in pulling it off. Their lunch menu was simple (burgers, pasta, salad) and all the food was fantastic! I think if they made the dinners and sides more simple the food would be much better at dinner. Also focussing on local dishes which they know how to cook well would help their dinner service.

Review 9:This resort is amazing. Thank you to Josh, Seko, Messa, Adi and Gabi for a wonderful stay. The staff really make this place. The daily snorkelling trip is amazing. We saw turtles, manta rays and sharks right on our doorstep. Loved the signing on the beach as you arrive by boat to check-in, followed by a cold hand towel and juice. They also try to have all rooms ready for the boat arrival, even though it's a few hours before official check in.

Review 10:Had to wait for almost 2 hours for our dinner the first night. The next day they were more attentive.

Review 11:The location was great, the island is the most beautiful with white beaches, and plenty of snorkeling spots. Fun Activities are available every day including champagne island hopping, visiting the village, and other islands :)

Review 12:We had no radio or TV or anything in the room that we could play music on or be in touch with the outside world on the days where the weather / sea conditions weren't favourable for swimming etc. The native birds that make "baby crying " calls after dark took a while to get used to. Apparently it was breeding season when we were there.

Review 13:It's a magical spot and truly restful. The service was fantastic.

Review 14:On our first day we did not know the water sports shop provides flippers and kayak for free for guests. We went to the reception desk to ask if the resorts has then to lend but the staff told me they only sold them and did not tell us where we can get them for free.

Review 15:The island is very private and no kids. The restaurant staffs are very friendly. The water sports activities are relatively cheap, compared with some other islands. we enjoy the off island snorkeling a lot! The canteen staff sing goodbye songs for each couple guest departing the next day which is very nice. Btw, there is a bridge where we saw baby sharks!

Review 16:Really bad service in the hotel. We found plastic trash in many places of the island. Some parts were under construction.

Review 17:Location & beach. The villas at the back of the hotel are really nice.

Review 18:We found the food and drinks to be quite underwhelming and overpriced.Wifi was also horrendously expensive, when you pay $900 per night youwould expect wifi to be included in the price. We were also charged $305Fiji dollars (about $250 aud) for a 25 min boat transfer for Tokorikiwhich is quite outrageous, and to add insult to injury, they charged ustwice and have not responded to our query regarding the double charging.

Review 19:The location of the resort was amazing, and our pool villa wasincredible. The island itself was so beautiful and we loved that therewere no kids or day-trippers visiting.

Review 20:Spacious, well appointed beachfront bure, fabulous staff, the tennis court, the evening entertainment, the range of activities on offer, the scuba diving experience, friendly guests, amazing open spa overlooking the ocean.

Review 21:I thoroughly enjoyed my stay on Matamonoa Island Resort. The staff were incredibly helpful and friendly and made my four days there relaxing and gave me the holiday I was looking for...Thanks everyone.

Review 22:when we came the weather was very windy. Felt quite cold. We didn't stay enough to really enjoy and relax Not on the yasawa flyer route

Review 23:the volley ball made for couples

Review 24:You can't rrally swim except on the other side of the island where the most expensive rooms are. For those who like to spend hours in the warm ocean the reef makes this difficult. They do have boats you can take out to snorkel and dI've but these cost money.

Review 25:The beauty of this tiny island. If you want to really get away, this is the place. No television, Internet (unless you want it). Retire to bed early and rise early to see the beautiful sunrise. This was my ideal vacation.

Review 26:There wasn't really anything we didn't like. We did think the prices for food and drink were a tad high though. Was expecting a little cheaper which may have helped with the decision to stay a couple extra days.

Review 27:The people.......by far made it the best Fiji trip for both of us. The locals know how to entertain and know how to make you feel welcome, friendliest group of people we have met.

Review 28:Rubbish and building material scattered around the island and in the water is very disappointing. They burn their rubbish every afternoon so you have to put up with the smell of plastic burning while you're watching sunset.

Review 29:Snorkelling on the reef and the scenery was first class. Bures are freshly renovated and all have plunge pools.

Review 30:2 weeks after our stay the resort closed for makeover for 2 months. Construction was already ongoing while we were staying. After complaining about the noise we were moved to another bungalow, which was absolutely perfect.

Review 31:Beautiful beaches, very friendly and helpful staff, perfect size of the resort. Atmosphere is like "friends" with a nice welcome and goodbye ceremony for everyone. We also liked the evening programs- crab race, music quiz - all not noisy and "cheap" but like sitting together with family and friends.

Review 32:Unfortunately the Matamanoa birds cried all night and were nesting under and around the villa so we didn't sleep very well! The food was only average.

Review 33:We stayed in one of the new villas with a plunge pool and the villa was amazing! Great snorkelling just out the front of our villa.

Review 34:This is our third time to the island. The staff are absolutely wonderful, the food is excellent and the bures are immaculately kept. The snorkling is the best of all the resorts we have been to. You get good coral colour and some guests even saw turtles. Well worth visiting.

Review 35:Food was not very good at all. For the price of the accommodation and meals it is not value for money. Had the cost been far more reasonable this would be a great destination.

Review 36:Staff were friendly Great Scuba diving company attached

Review 37:- Tiny boat to Castaway Island made for an exhilarating/terrifying ride back through the afternoon waves and wind.- Although they are definitely trying, the food is only ok.

Review 38:Villas with plunge pools were secluded, sunny, relaxing, romantic, witha perfect beach! It was exactly how you would imagine a privatehoneymoon in Fiji. The employees were personable and always willing tohelp us. Joe took us snorkeling and climbed coconut trees to get usfresh coconuts. Trip to Castaway Island was gorgeous with greatsnorkeling. Fly in and out on the helicopter- it's the way to go!!

Review 39:Disappointed that there was no real encouragement to get couples to mix e.g. a happy hour. Maybe we hadn't realized it was such a honeymooners resort and you may feel this wasn't necessary but even the young ones like to mix.It would also have got a lot more people down to the bar pre-dinner and ultimately would probably have improved your revenue here as the bar, at most times, was quiet. We also felt the food was not nearly as good as our previous visit many years ago, especially for the prices we paid. In saying all that we did really enjoy our stay and overall it was a lovely stay.

Review 40:We stayed in the new villas. They were extremely comfortable and the plunge pool and day bed were a real asset. The island itself is beautiful with lots if options to keep you as busy as you want or as quiet as you want.

Review 41:Staff service and food

Review 42:Location and evening singing

Review 43:Loved diving with the turtles and reef sharks.

Review 44:Staff where all pleasant.

Review 45:Amazing staff and beautiful location! Was a perfect holiday

Review 46:Spa prices quite expensive

Review 47:Free watersports, beaches beautiful, staff amazingly friendly

Review 48:Some noise of engineering equipment

Review 49:Beautiful places around villas, amazing beaches, friendly staff

Review 50:The food is not gourmet but still good

Review 51:Great water sports and very quiet. Perfect relaxing location.

Review 52:the choice of food is quite limited

Review 53:beautiful beach, comfortable villa, the staff is quite friendly and a lot of activities everyday.

Review 54:Secluded Island, only one small private resort.

Review 55:Wifi price is a little bit high.

Review 56:Nice staff~ Nice food~ Nice actives~

Review 57:The staff, the food, the sunsets, the snorkeling, the peace & quiet. There wasn't much we didn't love!!

Review 58:Lovely Staff

Review 59:Honestly nothing, the place was fantastic!

Review 60:I'm still not exactly sure why we chose Matamanoa as our holiday location, but I am so, so glad that we did.The island is location in the Mamanuca Island chain and is one of the western most islands. About 45 minutes ferry ride from Port Denarau. The island is in a group of 6, with Tavua (local village), Yanuya (local village and school), Monu (uninhabited), Monuriki/Modriki (uninhabited), and Tokoriki (resort) islands close by. But the first thing you notice when you get there is the small size of the island and the isolation, although there are other islands in the distance, the resort faces towards the ocean and you really feel like you've gotten away from everything, it's just beautiful. One of the critical things for us was that the resort and island were adults only. No children anywhere. You don't really realise it but the peace, quiet, and tranquillity is so much more noticeable and you really are able to appreciate when you don't have to deal with children running around or screaming. The size of the resort is also notable, as it's only about 30 bures and villas, which means only a maximum of 60 people, though when we visited (May 2014), I'd guess that we only saw half of that, I know the resort was booked out, but you are never left wanting a seat at dinner, or a beach lounge, or a seat near the pool, or at the bar. There is never a moment when you think the place is crowded. The resort is actually just a restaurant, reception, bar, dive shop, and the rooms. That's all there is, there isn't even a wharf, it's jump off the boat onto the sand when you arrive (luckily the guys will carry your luggage and bring it to your door). Oh, and there's the most beautifully constructed tree-house spa situated just on the north-eastern side of the island, the wooden walkway up and view out is breathtaking, and the spa staff are very kind and helpful.

Review 61:Price of food and drinks Food was average

Review 62:Great Weather Beautiful Scenery Friendly staff and visitors Incredible snorkeling Privacy Quiet and Peaceful Daily activities Nightly Music Kava!!

Review 63:After moving on to another island after my stay here I noticed how much more expensive massages, drinks and tours are on this island but it still wouldnt put me off returning :)

Review 64:I loved everything about my stay in Matamanoa. The staff are so friendly and make you feel very welcome. There always seemed to be a couple of sun loungers free which is always good for those of us who dont like to get up early to save some! We did the sunset cruise tour and the couples sunrise massage which I would highly recommend. The dinner atmosphere is so nice but there could have been a bit more variety with the food. All in all I would love to go back again!

Review 65:The night howl of the birds, just can't bear!!!

Review 66:Friendly staff, Beautiful beaches, lovely accomodation, stunning views, yummy food, just hated to come out of the island!!!

Review 67:Poor value for the money!! The pictures they use to advertise the hotel are 25 years old!!! It has nothing to do with today. No umbrellas on the beach, old fashioned beach beds, even garbage mountains (yes mountains) are on some parts of the beach. Staff was mainly friendly but some were very lazy - not what you would expect in an hotel were the cheapest room is 200 EUR/night. Breakfast included means Continental breakfast - so eggs and bacon are subject to 10 EUR per person. Diving was double the price of comparable resorts on other islands. Would not recommend the hotel. Go there on a day trip to enjoy the reef.

Review 68:Amazing Island, great reef and snorkeling.

Review 69:Breakfast is included, but don't expect a major of choice. If you want eggs it is only available with an on average charge of 20 FJ$. In our opinion a bit much for what you get.

Review 70:The island Matamanoa is beautiful and except of the few staff members living there you are the only one on the island. Furthermore, the staff is great and they make sure there is enough entertainment. Perfect clean and comfort.

Review 71:The internet was down the only day I wanted to use it. It wasn't that big of a deal, and honestly, it was nice to have an excuse to put off my real life for an extra day, but it might have been a problem for some.

Review 72:Matamanoa Resort was Wonderful! The staff was friendly, the food was delicious and varied, the complimentary breakfast was also great (the tropical fruits were amazing), the beach chairs and umbrellas were plentiful, the pool was warm. We were able to use the resorts' sea kayaks and snorkeling equipment free of charge. Because the resort is fairly small, we got to know the other guests and it made for a very friendly time. In addition, we were given a honeymooners fruit plate and bottle of champagne. Perhaps most adorable - and sitting on the shelf right next to me as a souvenir - is the wooden sign they hung on our door with our names engraved into it. Thank you for thinking about the little things, guys! It was a fantastic long weekend - if Fiji was just a little closer to home we'd be planning for our repeat trip next year!

Review 73:The beach, the gorgeous massage hut, the loving and attentive staff, the infinity pool, the beautiful and peaceful surroundings make the Matamanoa Resort feel like paradise!!! It's a perfect "10"!!!

Review 74:No resort layout (map) to locate things like unit numbers, tennis courts etc. Next time would request a unit away from staff quarters. Not a big issue but tended to be a high traffic spot when sitting on our porch.

Review 75:Total relaxation after 4 weeks of travelling non-stop. Catered to our "do nothing" activities except beach walks, lounging/reading by the pool, cooling off in the ocean & pool, eating & a few drinks at night. As much as we enjoy kids, it was refreshing to have couples only - mainly honeymooners.

Review 76:Not enough sun loungers by the pool, which meant people got up at 6am just to go and reserve one with their towel. Not ideal if you want a lie in! There is always the stunning beach to spend the day on though, but I think there needs to be some sort of a system for the sun-loungers, or just more of them! One night a week is "buffet night" which is pricey and there is no a la carte alternative. The restaurant manager was great, and just charged us for our main meal, but when there is only one place to eat on the island, the buffet should be optional.

Review 77:Beautiful and relaxing island - incredible location. Staff were always very friendly and helpful. Food was amazing. Resort rooms were better than expected and had everything we needed (bring your own duty free Alcohol, there are fridges in every room). Would highly recommend the South Seas Seaspray day tour, book through Matamanoa for a good price. A perfect trip, thank you Matamanoa, we will certainly be back next year :)

Review 78:Food had its ups and downs. Island location can be effected by wind which can make water activities difficult.

Review 79:Total R&R holiday. Brilliant Quiet secluded rooms right on the beach. Everything taken care of by the friendliest staff I have met. Location is second to none. Sunday Feast (lovo) is a must. Excellent snorkelling from beach. Fridge, glasses in room for duty free drink making.

Review 80:The food was underwhelming at times. There was a lot of litter in the surrounding landscape.

Review 81:Treetop day spa & it's highly skilled, friendly staff. The water & coral reef surrounding the island were beautiful.

Review 82:Would have been great if they had fresh juices available. The tennis court needs to be resurfaced.

Review 83:The location is beautiful with white sandy beaches and snorkelling just off shore with the most amazing array of fish. Wonderful spa setup, great staff, good food. Beach bures are huge and always clean.

Review 84:Restaurant service poor...staff nonchalant, probably because they are paid almost nothing !!! Prices ridiculous for the quality of food provided. Crumbed calamari entree out of a cardboard box ( manufactured seafood filler ) . I refused to pay for it !!!

Review 85:Fantastic location. Coral reef was very poor...smashed coral due cyclone. Led to believe that it had the best off the beach snorkelling in Fiji. Not true....much better on Mana Is.

Review 86:The whole island resort was perfect. The staff were so friendly & couldn't do enough for us. Our big attraction was no kids alowed under the age of 16. We are planning to go back next year.

Review 87:T'his was probably our 7th time on Matamanoa. We really enjoy the friendly staff, the comfortable bures, and the feeling of returning home on each trip.

Review 88:Such an amazing place- we stayed here for our honeymoon and the staff were so friendly and helpful! We stayed on the sunset side of the island and was great as a bit more private and quiet. Awesome place and would definitely love to go back

Review 89:Lack of cocktails at the bar. Maybe I am pedantic, but I expected the bar would have the standard tropical cocktails of Pino Colada and Mango and Strawberry Dakueries. I was surprised and disappointed not to find them. I also expected to see sea food on the menu. Having said that, I was more than happy with the overall experience and will go back for a longer stay next time.

Review 90:The warm welcome. The friendly and gracious staff. Being made to feel like family. The setting/ location/layout is idyllic. Food was very good. Room was very clean. Spa and massage area awesome. Reef still alive and in good condition. Perfect place for snorkelling and diving. No piped music. Readily accessible secluded areas for romance.

Review 91:Excellent resort with great staff. The food was really great. The island is very nice. Not many guests during our visit which makes you feel like you are the only one on the island.

Review 92:Villa is a little bit far from the main area.

Review 93:The staff there are really nice. No TV at room so you can totally relax your self.

Review 94:Not much!

Review 95:The people, setting & snorkelling

Review 96:Noise from construction machinery and noisy workers.

Review 97:more activity

Review 98:People there are so enthusiasm

Review 99:Great island with great people. Very nice and relaxing place!

Review 100:Nice people nice service

Review 101:The wind

Review 102:The bed, the water temp, the staff

Review 103:Some of the staff need more training in tourist relationships

Review 104:Relaxing and no children

Review 105:Leaving the perfect island relaxation resort

Review 106:Location and couples only

Review 107:That we only stayed for one night. Could have stayed for 3 nights.

Review 108:Very friendly staff and great location.

Review 109:It was perfect...

Review 110:Everything!!!

Review 111:Spa services need a lot of work.

Review 112:No tv, no room service available

Review 113:Staff helpful

Review 114:Everything! Beautiful island, beautiful water, beautiful coral, beautiful fish, beautiful staff!!
