Augustinerkloster Gotha descritpion

Dating from the 13th century, the Augustinerkloster is a peaceful monastery located in the centre of Gotha. It provides basic yet modern rooms, a café and a historic library.
Guests at the monastery can take time out to visit the Augustine Church and Sacristy, both of which date back to the late 13th century. The library includes a selection of 1,500-year-old books, and can be visited after registration.
Rooms at the Augustinerkloster Gotha are bright and simply furnished, and some offer courtyard views. Wi-Fi is available free of charge during reception opening hours.
The Kloster-Café serves a buffet breakfast with tea, coffee and juice. During the week a German meal is served in the café with a view across the cloister courtyard.
The hostel in the Augustinerkloster Gotha is less than a 10-minute walk from the Schloss Friedenstein castle, the Herzogliches Museum (ducal museum) and the new Art-Nouveau Stadtbad (town baths). Gotha Main Train Station is just 1.9 miles away, and can be reached in a 20-minute walk or a tram ride to Myconiusplatz.

Reviews for Augustinerkloster Gotha

Review 1:No parking. Had to feed the meter every morning in a local lot by 0700h so no sleeping in, no option to pay for more than 5 hours in a row so had to feed the meter throughout the day too.

Review 2:Great location. Beautifully done room, even had a towel warmer.

Review 3:They would only take cash , not credit card we were not warned of this and we did not get internet until breakfast as we were not given the password. The cash could have been a problem we should have been told on the booking site

Review 4:Location

Review 5:Short check-in hours from 2-5pm. You can still check in later by picking up a key, but make sure to call in earlier for a wifi password.

Review 9:Very clean, comfortable, eveything I needed for a brief stay.

Review 10:Das Glockenspiel war zu laut (vier mahl pro Stunde, Gott im Himmel!), nicht viel zu tun in Gotha (aber daran Schuld hat nur die SPD).

Review 11:Nice breakfast, very quiet, friendly key-lady, nice building.

Review 12:Nothing

Review 13:History of the town with interesting buildings, a Schloss and gardens

Review 14:Friendly, helpful staff. Quiet, comfortable room with excellent bath.

Review 15:good location, nice, quiet, clean, my own WC :)

Review 16:Nothing to write in here.

Review 17:Beautiful conversion of of a very mature monastic building set in an attractive small town with centuries old structures. Good food available and pleasant walks and it was nice to here the bells toll the 1/4 hours (in daytime) from the many ecclesiastical buildings.

Review 18:It was a bit sparse, no TV or other amenities and it took me ages to get onto the internet. I have stayed in better youth hostels, and I think that the price should reflect this.

Review 19:It was OK.

Review 20:The advised arrival route is not really a good one and the Kloster’s own website offers the same inappropriate arrival route. The Kloster’s address is on Judenstrasse but the real entrance is aeround the corner on Klosterstrasse and into the Kloster’s café. So it is best to approach the Kloster from the access road along the east of the historic centre by using Augustinerstrasse, one street south of Judenstrasse and running one way east. You then turn left at the first street (Klosterstrasse) and the place is immediately on your left with 5 parking spots directly across the street (but 3 of them only for those with handicapped permits). There are a few more spots beside the Kloster around the corner on Judenstrasse but nearly all of these are only for the use of area residents and the remainder have a one-hour parking limit except at night. You can park for free during the day for up to 2 hours on Klosterstrasse. So my advice is to pay 5€ and use one of the Kloster’s 8 spots that are behind a locked entryway next to the Kloster and reached from Judenstrasse once you have checked in and have a key to the entry door. For those who use hotel lifts/elevators,k the Kloster has one but pay attention that it is normally accessible (you can ask nicely for an exception to this) only during the limited hours when the hotel reception and café areas are open, meaning 8am to 5pm weekdays only. Else you have to enter off Judenstrasse using your room key and have to climb to your room using the stairway.

Review 21:If you are flexible about things like having television access, this is a very nice place to stay and is only 150m from the city’s Marktplatz. The staff are very helpful and very accommodating for special requests. The breakfast is a good but standard German buffet, though there were no other guests when I was there and so my breakfast was served rather than being a buffet. The hotel section of this Kloster was opened only in 2009 and so the rooms have good modern equipment that is in very good condition and are kept very clean. The rooms are small and have simple decor in keeping with the fact that this is part of a still-operating Augustinian monastery. There are no TVs, radios or telephones and only religious material and travel information is in the rooms. Bring your own reading and entertainment devices but make sure all have ear buds because silence is the rule after early evening. The heating equipment works quite well in winter, unlike in many other places in Germany.

Review 22:It would have been nice to have covered bike storage.

Review 23:Historic monastery with well-applied modern updates. Spacious and bright breakfast room. Very friendly staff. Our legs were grateful for the elevator. Bikes could be locked away in courtyard.

Review 24:no internet in the room. being on a business trip it is very inconvenient

Review 25:clean, well priced, excellent location, very good breakfast.

Review 26:Easy to find, good location. Simple and clean place.
