Reviews for MEININGER Hotel München City Center
Review 1:Lift did not work one morning. Guests were struggling down the stairs up to 6 flights. No notice of the problem was put on the lift doors. Some guests were noisy, including one kicking the door in the adjacent room to ours at 3am. There is no phone in the room, so I could not contact reception and had to tell the miscreant to keep quiet. Ruined the night's sleep. Staff apologised nicely in the morning, but an offer of a refund would have been welcomed, and appropriate.
Review 2:Rooms modern, but no phone. Little hanging space and small 3 legged stools as bedside tables. Far too small. Bed was large and comfortable. Best part of the room was the shower room which was very clean and modern with up to date fittings. The optional breakfast buffet was very good value and had a range of fruit, yogurts, rolls, meats cheese etc.
Review 3:Wasn't overly close to main Munich things but I suppose that's why it was good value.
Review 4:Was good value for our needs whilst in munich. Girl Staff friendly on reception, men not as much. Accross the road from great beer house. Quiet considering how close to trains.
Review 5:This is a hostel not a hotel. We booked a family room in a hotel, but were given bunks in a dorm room. Very noisy with young backpackers partying all night, screaming up and down hallways etc. never again.
Review 6:Staff in too much of a hurry and were not prone to giving detailed info about how to get to places and what was open close by.
Review 7:Location. Clean and fairly quiet.
Review 8:The room was super tiny, parking was confusing, we slept in Twin sized very uncomfortable beds, and the staff was a little irksome- I think they knew we were not the hotel's target market.
Review 9:For a backpacker, student, or other young traver, it was good. But, for my husband and I it wasn't quite right. The breakfast was good.
Review 10:Staff opened my hotel room without knocking and without my permission during the stay. Breakfast was pathetic. Not even eggs are available in the breakfast. Breakfast not worth of 6,90 €. Hotel staff do not know the meaning of Hop-on Hop Off!!! Not sure how they are working in Biggest City's Hotel Reception. Entry to the Garage Parking was very narrow and not suitable for big Cars.
Review 11:Cleanliness was very good. Silence maintained.
Review 12:Everything was clean and well equipped, warm and friendly atmosphere appropriate for young people and families with kids. All we needed was there: clean and cozy beds, bed for our baby, TV, one evening we saw FREE FOOD!!! at the kitchen for hotel guests, fridge, hot water and much more! We felt like home and missed nothing! Great breakfast for a small amount of money! Thanks a lot!!!!
Review 13:The noise sometimes can be problem due to drunk young hotel guests or people on the street from surrounding bars - it was not the case with us but other guests complained. More power outlets for mobile phones/tablets/laptops chargers in the 4,5,6 bed-rooms and access to upper bunk beds, better internet connection and simple access to internet not to have to log in all the times would be very useful.
Review 14:Perfect location close to central station and the center and opposite of the best, oldest and cheapest brewery. Great staff very informative and polite. Satisfactory breakfast variety and very good sandwich option for 1 eur per sandwich. Rooms average but spacious and clean with all amenities you need. We would definitely choose Meininger hotel again.
Review 15:No place to sit and relax. ( no sofa, just some wooden stools) It's not like a hotel, but a youth hostel.
Review 16:Very convenient location, quite near the central station ( just one stop away). There's a very good beer hall just in front of the hotel, and also a tram stop. You can buy the day ticket of trains and trams with a map from the kind and friendly front desk staff.
Review 17:Price/service ratio: hostel service at an hotels' price. Young guests making noise in the middle of the night. If you are used to on-line check-in, beware: it was impossible to print a boarding pass at the hotel.
Review 18:Close to downtown Munich No frills but decent accommodation for a family
Review 19:Bad experience was only the children that was in the same floor that at 11 p.m. were shouting and running
Review 20:The staff speaking perfect english, very helpful and good breakfast for a good price.
Review 21:It was more like a hostel than hotel. The room and the sheets could be cleaner. Also there were times when it was very loudy due to some mechanics working nearby.
Review 22:This hotel was cheap and close to the centre. The room was ok and comfortable for 5 people. In the reception they helped us with everything we needed.
Review 23:Very good and friendly personel! Very close to the centre 15 minutes walk. Recomended for short stays Breakfast was one of the best. Atm at the entrance!!!
Review 24:Nice and friendly staff. I had a problem with the keycard, the staff changed it for me like 2-3 time without complaining. Good location (near the tram stop)
Review 25:I didn't know that I should have booked the hotel's car parking place. When I arrived I found out that there are no free spaces and that I should have booked it earlier. I had to park the car in the nearby street and pay for the parking on the machine.
Review 26:Nice and pleasant personell
Review 27:As I traveled with rental car, I'd reserved underground parking lot twice by e-mail (3 months in advance) and they said "no worry we reserved it for you already". But when I was there, all parking space is occupied. I called staff to manage this but they said to me "I have no idea". It's unprofessional way to handle such problem. So beware if you travel with cars, be ready to face such kind of problem.
Review 28:Location is proximity to S station (10 mins walk) with directly link to most attractions in town. Like other franchised Meininger hotels, it's all
Review 29:For a group, a complicated booking process with a crazy amount of information required.
Review 30:Spacious and comfortable rooms Good location close to city centre.
Review 31:Bed was a bit uncomfortable and you could hear some noise from other rooms.
Review 32:The bar was lively in the evening - great atmosphere and not just young people.
Review 33:Beds were too small, duvets were too small and overall size of the room too small for 4 people!
Review 34:Good location for Oktoberfest, basically did what it said on the tin.
Review 35:Could clearly hear people in the hallway. Not very sound proofing was not so good. No A/C. There is only 1 elevator and it is the smallest and slowest elevator I have ever been in.
Review 36:Price and Location.
Review 37:Kitchen was very small for the size of the hostel - we've previously had a kitchen double this size for a hostel that holds around 50!
Review 38:Rooms were nice and bright. Handy having a separate shower / toilet in the room, plus towels were provided. Location was pretty good too
Review 39:Nothing at all.
Review 40:The hotel is very hot and there was no AC. Also I did ask for fans and also not available. You have to rent the fan but all busy. The reception said "we can't do anything" this is very bad and I could not sleep for five nights also the location is very noisy.
Review 41:Hotel is located on super-noisy street. Incessant noise from cars driving by even with windows closed (which was hardly an option on a hot summer night). Absolutely no way to escape the noise! To make it worse, there was screaming and hollering from the bar/restaurant across the street until 2AM.
Review 42:Proximity to public transportation (train station). Proximity to city center. Bathroom was reasonably clean.
Review 43:Some staff members lack customers service skills. One of the bunk beds wasn't made.
Review 44:Location. Easy to drive into and get to the centre by train. Pub across the road is great value. Fast internet. Great breakfast.
Review 45:Location was handy, close to station but not too close so was a quiet area. Bar and pool table are good to have. Price was great for 4 of us in one room.
Review 46:Very very busy but great if you're a backpacker! Could benefit from air cond, the heat in our room was unbearable,
Review 47:Clean room, nice staff and good value.
Review 48:The staff are very friendly and helpful. Our room had broken beds and there was noise from adjoining room having a party so we cancelled the second night of our stay. The hotel management refunded us without any issues. Really impressed by the customer service. This is really more a youth hostel than a hotel - appropriate for young travellers on a budget not for families looking for creature comforts.
Review 49:Our room was a bit dodgy, shower head was broken and light in the shower room didn't work.
Review 50:The environment was great for young people, lots of fun. Was more like a hostel
Review 51:We travelled as a goup of 3 friends and booked a triple room. The room consists of 1 double bed and 1 fouton. I do have to say that friends travelling together and sleeping in this room have to be really comfortable with each other. There is not much space and 2 people have to share a bed.
Review 52:Ok location. The subway station is not too far away. The staff was friendly. It was nice to have towels. It's ok for 1 or 2 nights...
Review 53:b.fast was week compared to other (brussels and amsterdam) branches. personel might be more friendly and helpful. parking lot is expensive
Review 54:location (close to tram and ubahn)
Review 55:Nothing really. It was what we expected when we booked. Could use a fan for really hot days since there's no AC.
Review 56:Near train station. Friendly staff. Clean hotel. Functional.
Review 57:So noisy. Mostly younger guests. Noise from the terrace and a bar that played loud music into the night. No sound insulation throughout the building, could hear everything in the halls and surrounding rooms. Stayed during the heatwave and the rooms were an oven. Couldn't open the windows properly for a breeze and they ran out of fans to rent. Ended up staying somewhere else the next night.
Review 58:Friendly and helpful staff, great breakfest.
Review 59:This is not a negative comment but just a note for fellow travelers: I do prefer proper hotels, but for a number of reasons we decided to give this place a try. It was good experience but as a hostel it can get pretty noisy I believe. Too basic in its services (but again, it is a hostel so that was fine).
Review 60:Clean, friendly staff, play area for babies, two bus-stop from the main train station, Augustiner beer house across from the hostel, kitchen available for guests
Review 61:Nothing
Review 62:They have facility for luggage storage in case you come before the check in time. Same with when you need to leave your luggage after the check out.
Review 63:Check in with a big group was challenging, but not the end of the world.
Review 64:For the price this hotel is perfect. Great location, has everything you need including a great late bar!
Review 65:The 4th bed in the room was a pull-out vinyl sofa which only had a sheet on it. It was cold to sleep on therefore an under blanket would have been nice to stop the sheet from sliding, as it was a waste of time having a sheet. Only one washing machine which meant huge queues.
Review 66:Check in staff were very friendly and efficient. Car park was a great addition to the booking. Wifi worked perfectly.
Review 67:Friendly staff, good facilities and situated in a location that is accessible by foot to the city centre and even quicker via public transport. Nice bar to meet fellow travellers. Late check-out option is also useful
Review 68:The elevator broke down, but the stairs worked :)!
Review 69:Near the centre, spacious and clean room, nice stuff. They even have a kitchen for prepearing small meals!
Review 70:This wasn't the best choice for a family with young children (1 year and 3 years). The room wasn't "dirty" but the floors could have been cleaner for me to be comfortable with my crawling daughter. There was only one elevator for the entire building, so it was loaded up and slow--and then even if you were able to get the elevator, it didn't go to the top floor, so we had to walk our bags the last floor. The doors slammed a lot in the hallway, making for much noise.
Review 71:They seemed to put all the "families" on the same top floor, which was a good idea for all involved (noise level and "awake/sleep" hours). Paid extra for the breakfast, but it was well done and tasted good. Paid extra for parking, but I felt secure with the car in a locked garage below the hotel.
Review 72:No soundproofing!! I cannot sleep because I always heard other room closed their door. Teenage group try to disturb us by knock our door then run away, in many time!!! I don't understand that why this hostel booked our room among of teenage group. Price is high.
Review 73:Location, we can walk from S-bahn.
Review 74:The position in the city and the fact that it had a practical parking space. You can go directly from the parking space with the elevator directly to the level of your room.
Review 75:It says its a hotel. It's not. Its a Hostel. Complete with loud neighbors at 2Am. Thought I was getting a double bed (2 single beds pushed together is ok) but what I got was two beds separated. It felt like I was in College all over again. Not into it at all
Review 76:Nice vibe, Staff was amazing
Review 77:Elevator didn't work 50% of time (luckily service elevator helped us with babywagon to get to our floor). Bed made much noise. Babybed was broken. Extreme thin walls, all sounds from neighbors came in loud. Curtains were too short and therefore not sufficient closure for light. Poor accomodation in bathroom. Chaos in breakfast area.
Review 78:The location and wifi, friendly personnal.
Review 79:You could feel the springs of the bed , where the springs are joined it was really bad . But the rest of the stay made up for it.
Review 80:Staff where really helpful , especially Barb and Yoko
Review 81:The cleaner had no sense of privacy! Also the bed had a couple of prominent springs that were awkward. No Disney channel. No free biscuits.
Review 82:The location was very good, since it was close to the train station and was a stone's throw from the city center. Kitchen did what it needed to.
Review 83:The communal kitchen was a dump, but this was the other guests fault. Noise in the corridors at night, again, others guests. Dodgy lift!
Review 84:bedrooms were very clean and private bathroom was a bonus. Free towels and very clean and comfortable beds for a hostel. Close to all in the city, walking distance to Marienplatz. Would definitely recommend. Staff were very friendly and helpful.Great bar, great place.
Review 85:The facilities in our room didn't work very well. I would say this hotel is more like a hostel, good for backpackers and young people, but not for family.
Review 86:good staff, location, price
Review 87:First, there is just one small elevator, only a man with big luggage is fit enough. We booked two four-beds room, but we got totally different room size, one with big space and another one which really small and located next to the stair. I try to change the rooms but the reception said it impossible. I don't understand why they alocate the room like this. They should select at least the same room size to avoided the compain. The shower is broken, the water splash every direction, thank god, the staff come up and fixed it immediatly. At the night, there were a group of teenages running up and down and shouting. Such a very noisy. There was one night, a drunk man try to open my door, he kicked and yelling. when I open the door in the next morning, that man was sleeing in front of my room and block my way. I have to walk crossed him to get out. Although there are signs said keep your voice down at nights, it just been ignored. And this is what happened all most in every night we stayed there. So sad, but there won't be next time for me in this hotel.
Review 88:The staffs are so friendly and helpful. Location of this hotel is not too far from main train station, just 10 to 15 minutes walk.
Review 89:I think it's was more a student type hostel, maybe great if you're a young group of travellers, but if you want quiet and comfort, it's not a good choice. The bed was not comfortable (springy), and the shower towels smelled like pee! And finally, the kitchen smelled so much of rotten potatoes that you couldn't actually use it. I don't usually give bad reviews, but maybe this will be useful for someone.
Review 90:staff was nice
Review 91:The place was full of loud school groups who were yelling in the halls until 3am. We asked to change rooms, but there were school groups on every floor. The staff was helpful and talked with their teacher the next day and they were reasonably quiet the rest of our stay. The doors to the room need to be fixed tho! They slam shut if you are not careful which is very noisy. You need some heavy duty ear plugs to get a good nights sleep here.
Review 92:Really clean and comfortable. Great location. Staff was always super helpful and welcoming.
Review 93:The room has so thin walls that you can hear everything...you can hear people talking in the room next to yours, you can hear a man walking in the hallway...there is no sound isolation. Cause of that I wasn't able to sleep for the whole night. And people are not respecting quiet time after 22.00 pm. It was loud.
Review 94:Great location for transportation, city center visit, close to shopping, and right across the street for your Bavarian fest hall. Hotel was a lucky find!
Review 95:The staff is kinda ignorant..... Thin walls, you can clearly hear people talking in hallways.
Review 96:Close to bus terminal, not far from city center as well.
Review 97:music sounds from the backpacker until dawn
Review 98:friendly staff, with a good facilities, tidy room and big dining room.. even they had a free internet call at the lobby.
Review 99:Since cheap is cheap, you should be aware of many youngsters all around world who are very noisy and do not know etiquettes.Well, it's not the problem of Meininger though.
Review 100:This is Munich, the most expensive place in Germany. You will stay in economical and comfortable place. Save money and consume it outside hotel.
Review 101:The sheets and towels were not always changed if you would not ask for it. The hotel is slightly mixed with hostel guests.
Review 102:The hotel is close to Hackerbrucke train station. Famous beer bar is across the street.
Review 103:wifi is generally good, though, for korean customers it is not enough because voice talk in kakao didn't work at all. It is little bit unhappy.
Review 104:the location of hotel is very good and near the city. we stayed at quard room. its showerbooth and toilet is separated so it is very good to use. staffs are very kind and informative.
Review 105:There is only one elevator and can not be called during the rush hour. The location is not close to the main station but you need to either take one station of local train or take tram around three station. If you want to walk, it's around ten or fifteen minutes!
Review 106:The atmosphere of an accommodation is so comfy. The staff is very well trained and prepares lots of information. They are very nice! The room is quite small but the bed is good with all essential equipment (we book a private room for 3) anyway it is OK for the price, we didn't expect it too much :)
Review 107:The wifi does not work properly within the rooms all the time. Sometimes it just disconnects without an apparent reason.
Review 108:The hostel is very comfortable, provides towels, soap and has an amazing hall. It is easy to find and the staff are really friendly. It provides free luggage rooms and has lockers on the rooms. The laundromat is ok (just 1 mavhine), but the breakfast provides a big variety of good food to eat, and they also have snacks to sell and a charming kitchen.
Review 109:Maybe for someone location could be not very convinient, however in general no big disadvantages in this hotel. We will recommend this hotel.
Review 110:I with husband stayed in MEININGER Hotel for 3 nights. Location is quite good - 25-30 min by foot from the city center, for us it was ok. Our room was clean and comfortable. Towels, soap, clean bedding, wi fi were in it. We took dugget breakfast - it was various and good with muesli, meat, cheese, different drinks, bread and rolls, vegetables etc.. There is no tea pot in the room, but on the second floor they have kitchen and you can make tea or more. There is parking near the gotel, but not to big. Staff at the reception was friendly. We will recommend MEININGER Hotel.
Review 111:The noise
Review 112:I was so horrified by the amount of young students staying and unfortunately most seemed to stay along my dorm therefore it is without exaggeration that I say I slept not one wink in 3 days
Review 113:Absolutely wonderful staff, always friendly and willing to help. We forgot a pair of jeans, but within 2 days and two calls we received the package with the jeans - safe and sound. I am very impressed by the service!
Review 114:Everyday you had to change the wifi password.
Review 115:We have traveled with kids (13,9,4) and for everyone there was something in this hotel to do. The location is perfect.
Review 116:- it was too crowded all the time. Actually you need to be prepare to this. - you need a password for wifi. It's a Stone Age! make it free! (common problem for many German Hotels); - no shower cap and other useful things (common problem for many German Hotels).
Review 117:- located not far from transport stations; - reception is always ready to help; - nice room with writing table and a sofa; - there is a lift!
Review 118:Noisy. There was so much doors slamming around, footsteps and loud talking all the time that it was hard to have a good rest at any time of the day or the night. Even after 00:00 it was loud and noise to rest. Breakfast could be a bit more consistent. One day there were eggs but nothing on the following 3 days. Eggs should be essential for a standard breakfast. Building is a bit old and there is only one tiny lift which you're a lucky person if you manage get in as it's really slow and always busy. If you can, just use the stairs instead. I was in the top floor so was a bit crap.
Review 119:The lift. It's small and slow. We walked up and down those steps to our sixth floor room quite a bit - which may not be too much of a bad thing considering how many yummy Bavarian desserts we ate during our visit :)
Review 120:We booked a family room for ourselves and 3 teen daughters. The two separate bedrooms were a pleasant surprise, while the clean, spacious bathroom was ample for the five of us. The one bedroom had an extra sink, which came in useful when three girls are jostling to get ready in the morning! The location was excellent - just one stop away from all the main center attractions, and in easy walking distance. During our stay, one of our daughters dropped her iphone in the hotel and the staff went over and beyond their call of duty to help us retrieve it. We cannot give enough praise to the front desk staff who were friendly, helpful and always with a smile, despite things becoming a bit hectic - even during the morning check in/check out times. A big thanks, as well, to the caretaker who helped in the iphone saga! The hotel is in easy walking distance of a Lidl supermarket and a great bakery if you don't want to do the hotel's breakfast (which we chose not to). Others have mentioned the location being noisy - we had no noise from other guests or outside traffic. All in all, if you're looking to discover Munich and want to avoid steep prices in the center of town, this hotel is the perfect choice.
Review 121:The door to the shower opens only ca. 30cm wide because it is installed in such a stupid way that the toilet stops it. If you are anything more than normal weight (which was luckily our case), you will NOT be able to take a shower in this room. We booked a double room and got two small separated beds, the room itself was really small as well.
Review 122:Clean hostel, good facilities (safe luggage room), nice breakfast. Value for money was okay when we booked, but saw that prices climbed after that which is not justified.
Review 123:Hard mattress. Shower leaked (looked like a poor design) and was rather cold if on full. The room had only been surfaced cleaned, quite a lot of dust under the beds. Strange marks on ceilings/ graffiti on bunk beds. Had booked the whole room, and would have expected all beds to be made, felt this was quite poor.
Review 124:Good location, easy to get to the centre of Munich. Very helpful staff.
Review 125:Very slow elevator, noisy at night (schoolchildren were knocking on doors), breakfast could be better, also the tables at breakfast time weren't cleaned on time (had to do it myself), not much furniture in room if you stay a while, overall nor as good as e.g. Meininger Salzburg.
Review 126:Good location, parking in garage, Augustiner bräu accross the street has good beer&food.
Review 127:While we booked a double room we got a very narrow room with two opposite beds. Felt like being in a corridor. When we asked another room, we've been told it was fully booked. Found loads of dust, and blanket smelled humidity. Wifi never worked over the week end. The room was not cleaned, and the beds were not done during the stay. Quite overpriced and unpleasant stay.
Review 128:Location, friendly staff.
Review 129:1. Room too small for the number of beds in it. 2. No hairdryer available, even after we asked several time to the staff in the reception. 3. One tiny lift for a 6 floors building is not enough. 4. Too expensive for what it offers, we paid the price of a 3/4 star hotel and we got a 1/2 star hostel.
Review 130:Quite central located
Review 131:the size of the room the clean towels they were torn the lift is very slow and its only one if u are going book a lower floor room
Review 132:the location the staff the wifi the breakfast
Review 133:Staff were too busy to speak to me on 3 occasions. Didn't give any sight seeing or transport tips. Not enough staff for checking people in and little to no instruction on where to check in, pay for Breakfast (we went to another location for breakfast both days as no one around to speak to). Quiet time after 22h not enforced. Pillows too big, unable to sleep on them. Unable to give us any help on locations nearby of family restaurants.
Review 134:Location was great. Good transport links. Rooms were adequate. Baby provided was fine (although not put in the room before we arrived).
Review 135:-Only 2 power supply sockets in 5 people bedroom- You have to pay 8.5eur for parking and 6.5eur each for quite poor breakfast (no warm food, only sandwiches, cereal etc.)
Review 136:We where travelling with car around Europe, so it was good place tostay. We took room for 5 people and there where double store beds whichwere not so bad. Location is not the best one, but still good, as youcan reach center in 40min walk.
Review 137:Rooms was very small, only some space to walk around the bed, thebathroom is pre-historic and I do not veleive that the majority of thejoung guest \ students paid this amount for their room. Never such a badexperience in whole of Europe.
