Reviews for Beachcomber Island Resort
Review 1:We spent New Year's Eve here and we were expecting it to be a little crazy. Check in was a mad free for all before heading off to a huge dorm room of 100+ beds. Me and my boyfriend were seperated by what we presumed was male and female sections. The beds are so cramped up together you literally are on top of each other. New Year's Eve was good but they didn't really make any special effort apart from a few fireworks on the beach, was just a normal party night. In the dorm my boyfriend had a sleepless night as people got it on all night around him. The food here is just appalling. The options are the most basic carbs (rice, pasta, bread) lots of questionable meat and a plan lettuce salad for basically every meal. As a vegetarian I suffered and complain to which they made me a really bad portion of stir fried veg which was so raw and took them ages to cook. Also if you don't turn up on time you'll only get the scraps of what is left. For $80 this is mad! You won't find a luxury resort here just party crazy mess. Head to bounty for a more beautiful island with free activities and great food too! After looking forward to NYE here it was a shame it was let down by the dorms and food so bad.
Review 2:A great little island out in the ocean not too far from the mainland.
Review 3:I had to pay for lunch even if I didn't want to having lunch! Is it fair? I didn't see any notice abut this situation on the booking.com web site before visiting beachcomber.
Review 4:The staff weren't very friendly and welcoming, it has a very un-Fijian feel to the place, more like Ibiza who just want your money and not you. We wanted and were expecting lively, but also wanted welcoming fiji, Ibiza is only 3 hours from England Fiji is nearer 20. GO to Bounty island, our favourite place, very welcoming, Berry the manager has a heart of gold and his staff Iffy, Joe, Ben etc are the best iv ever had.
Review 5:Being on a remote island is amazing..
Review 6:We arrived into a rundown reception area. We were told meal times of 9-10, lunch 1-2, dinner 7-8 so we were already unimpressed with the prison like dining options. Our room was a sea view it was very dated but clean with good aircon. Very over priced for what it was though. Our first experience of the food was 3 trays left on a buffet table in the heat with loads of flies buzzing around. The options being spaghetti, rice, bread rolls and basically any cheap carb they could find. There were also a tray of unidentified meat, maybe pork? For the price they charge for their meal plans it was a massive disappointment and no sign of a vegetable. We tried to book a scuba dive and were told they would have to contact a neighbouring island as contary to their website they do not have a dive shop. Organising the dive seemed impossible for them so we called a dive shop from reception we found online and organised a pick up boat for the next day. (The wifi is really bad, keeps dropping out and only works in the dining area)The next day we waited for the pickup, as they didnt arrive we asked in reception if we could use their phone to call the dive shop only to discover the boat had arrived on time and beachcomer had turned them away because they said no one of our name was staying on the island. Even though we made the call in front of them the previous day and our names were on their system as guests. The staff in reception were utterly incompetent.Faced with the thoughts of spending a day stuck on the island with nothing but the fly buffet, a tiny dirty swimming pool and a happy hour that consisted of $1 off to pass the time we got the first boat out of there. It was worth giving up the money we had paid for the second night just to get off that island. We moved to the fabulous mana island resort, with swim up bar, spa, modern rooms and no ridiculous enforced meal policy. It was also half the price of beachcomer.
Review 7:The room was old fashioned but clean.
Review 8:Having to leave
Review 9:The staff were extremely friendly and made our stay so enjoyable. Also the food and facilities were on point! Loved the location and the overall vibe was amazing
Review 10:There's no telephone in your room, should be installed at least in bure if you need to contact housekeeping etc. land transportation should get upgrade, minivan from mid 80' beginning 90' picks you up, and looks terrible. It does not reflects at all how the resort is.
Review 11:Staff is very friendly, remembering your name the first day, coral reef next to hotel is to die for. Prices are excellent, especially how Fiji can get expensive.
Review 12:The cost far exceeds the value. Drinks are $19.50 for cocktails! They do have multiple happy hours per day, which seems to be the only time people would buy drinks. Not much to do on the island but lay on the beach. This claims to be the Party Island, but it was far from it. Very few people there, not much staff interaction and no entertainment.
Review 13:The location is good. The only resort on the small island. We walked around the island in 15 minutes! Beachfront room. Room was clean and a decent size. Food was ok. Always buffet style.
Review 14:- No fitness centre - additional costs for everything - noisy eletrical equipment in the middle of the island 24h7
Review 15:- unbelivable position of the island: simply great - food was ok - good entertainment: nice staff
Review 16:Staff not very reliable with luggage and one of our pieces was not taken off the boat - so keep an eye on this. Not much in the way of watersport facilities - one standup paddle board (makes it hard to do the activity with a friend), one 2-person kayak which had a leak and you can only borrow for an hour!!! Went for one dive which was a disaster (we were taken to a poor site and the dive master ran out of hour in 30 mins - not worth the money).
Review 17:We were really lucky and had a burre that was very quite and away from the bar and the generator - had we been closer the noise we would not have enjoyed this as much. The snorkelling was great in the reef in front of our accommodation. Food was great and staff very friendly.
Review 18:Noisy generator too close to houses. Gears only sometimes available (e.g. volleyball). Rough boat trip.
Review 19:Houses. Atmosphere. Partying and relaxing at the same time. Good food. Good diving gear and preparation.
Review 20:Wifi was terrible, bar very pricey - $7.50 got a beer $19.50 for a cocktail. This island is marketed as party island but you need to create your own party if you want that. No organisation as far as activities. I've stayed in many Fiji resorts where there's activities throughout the day, this island badly needs an activities manager. Also food is nice but meal times are so unorganised. Cutlery missing/ no salt and pepper / running out of food was the norm every meal every day.
Review 21:Beautiful island, music til late
Review 22:My partner was eaten alive by mosquitos. I would recommend everyone to carry a mosquito net to the island. The transfer to the island was terrifying, it took us four hours and we were transferred from boat to boat in a tiny speed boat on the middle of rough Pacific ocean in pitch dark, such a terrifying experience. We also had to come back on a bumpy speed boat as we didn't want to stay another 2 hours on a boat to get to Denarau while it's actually only 40 minutes away. Wifi never worked, everyone had issues with it.
Review 23:Great place to relax and good value for money. We were on a beach front bure far away from all the music from the bar and it was very private and beautiful. Brilliant views and running hot water, better than most places in the mainland. reasonably tidy and comfortable. We made some new friends and had a great time, very friendly and helpful staff too. Great entertainment on weekends and so much fun!
Review 24:Nothing!!!!
Review 25:Absolute paradise!!!! Words can't describe this place. The beach, the staff, the food, everything is amazing!!! Stayed for 9 nights wish would of stayed longer after moving to another island that was awful!!!! The staff are what make this place stand out from the rest everyone is hard working and lovely they really can't do enough for you. The food is great too lots of variety and value for money. Will definitely be back.
Review 26:Ok this is a backpackers, style island accomodation. Long walk to studio rooms. Reception are slow, some dont want to go out of there way to help. Tour guides over booking tours Food seemed to be the same ie breakfast left overs for lunch ( more for backpackers). Not a great selection of choc, chips etc. No ice cream. Wifi is slow, very slow. Compulsory meal plan which you pay for on check in.
Review 27:The bar set out. The included transfers airport to Anchorage. Jet ski, snorkelling etc View from room SSW9
Review 28:See other box.
Review 29:Took the South Sea Cruises boat at 12:15 and arrived at about 13:15 (make sure you are in open shoes as your feet will get wet on arrival). Greeted by staff singing a welcome song on the beach and then an efficient check in process for all the guests that arrive on the same boat, with multiple staff ready and assisting. Bearing in mind this is a budget resort, the service was brilliant; they took our suitcases to the room, and when we left they picked them up and took them to a holding area, and then the boat.Weather on the island was much better than Pacific Harbour, and a bit hotter than Sigatoka; it felt like we were really on holiday; and the arrival by boat was fabulous as you see the speck of an island come in to view. On closer inspection you realise the sand has bits of coral in it, which stops it being so nice for a barefoot wander, but is cool nonetheless. We just about had time to get to lunch which finished at 2pm; and it wasn't a great start as we had the remaining slops of fly surrounded food. At this stage we were a little fearsome of what the next two days had in store, but in fact the food was great after this and it was just unlucky that we had arrived just as food service was ending. But there lies another issue.. breakfast 8 til 9, lunch 1 til 2, and dinner 7 til 8. All of these about an hour early for us, so would be better if instead of a one hour window, they had a 2 hour window (or at least an hour and a half). This would also reduce the massive queue issues they have at start of service. That said, they do operate 2 serving areas in busy times and apart from omelettes the queue moves pretty fast. It was always good fun rushing to get the deserts as they were put out, but there were enough to go round! We over ate on this part of our holiday and had a good variety of dishes so no complaints as to the actual quality of food.
Review 30:Loved that I could chill out and relax and take in some activities if I wanted too. Having a bar and DJ was great as I could let my hair down drinking yummy cocktails and listening to great music. The beach and swimming was awesome and loved the snorkelling. I got to watch beautiful sunsets from my deck, stunning.
Review 31:unless you get drunk at night, there isnt much else to do. in fairness it is a party island so its not like a surpriuse
Review 32:the staff are so awesome! seriously, ive never met a more genuinely nicer bunch of people
Review 33:Check in staff was rude, all walkways were sand (hard for walking), original room was tiny and ill equipped, snorkeling trip was dis- appointing, had to pay for all meals upfront - not advertised, geared to 20's crowd
Review 34:Gave us an upgrade that was much better- bigger, right on the beach
Review 35:There was no information on how to get to the island. Cost of both this and the compulsory food price on the website would have been helpful to be aware of ahead of time
Review 36:Free wifi was very slow, but with such great views and environment you prob dont want to spend much time using it anyway. The food was ok but basic not sure it was completely worth the required amount of mney you have to pay to stay on the island.
Review 37:Awesome room in oceanview bure. Only 10 meters to beach front. Great snorkelling all around the island. Nice people, great for a couple of days.
Review 38:The buffet style food was ok.. a bit of a shame that this is the only food option available and is only served at set times. The drinks at the bar were ridiculously priced.. Beachcomber seems to market themselves as a party island but at 20 FJD per cocktail it is hard to get in the mood. there is plenty they could do to ramp up the party scene yet still make money
Review 39:The island is close to the mainland yet has a much better beach and reasonably priced rooms. The activities and waterspouts available on the island are great, many of them included in the room rate
Review 40:Snorkelling off the island was a bit disappointing, breakfast and lunch were good but buffet style dinner wasn't as good as what we'd had in previous islands
Review 41:The Island is really nice with lovely sand for sunbathing on, resort well looked after, baby turtle breeding scheme is a brilliant thing for beachcomber to be doing and they were so cute
Review 42:food is expensive, runs out quickly, and is not very tasty water treatment facility is very loud no wifi in the rooms pricey drinks
Review 43:friendly staff, nice rooms, lots of activities
Review 44:The airport transfer was unorganised and rather expensive than the last time I went, and the water sports and extra activities were also expensive. This is down to management and owner - NOT the friendly staff.
Review 45:The staff on the island are amazing, they will help you with whatever you need and always have a smile on their faces. The atmosphere is really relaxed and the beach is beautiful.
Review 46:a lot of cockroaches
Review 47:location was great. was worried we wouldn't get any sleep from noise, as named 'party island' but had no problem in our private room
Review 48:One thing I didn't like was the fact that too few trips were organised during our stay.
Review 49:What I like most was attitude of the staff to the customers. When I told them about my vegetarian diet, I got special meals even though there was wide variety of other products! They treated us as family :)
Review 50:noisy (party-Island), loud Generator that you can hear anywhere, since the Island is so small, stinking beach due to the algea that are so much due to the waste water that go directly into the sea full of Phosphate, THE FOOD IS HORRIBLE and 1.5l of simple water costs FJD 7.80 - THIS IS RIPPING PEOPLE OFF...!!
Review 51:nothing, this Resort is a complet nightmare..!!
Review 52:150 dollars return just to travel to the island. When you are there it is compulsary to pay $80 per day for food, don't get me wrong it was nice but it is way over priced especially seeing it does not include drinks Check your change, I was short changed at the bar and have heard the same happened to others
Review 53:Absolutely amazing tiny island, about 30mins on boat from the mainland. White sands and the bluest water. Can walk around the Island in 5 minutes. Food was nice, free activities like snorkelling and a fish feeding trip.
Review 54:The food on that island is disgusting and you have to pay extra money for that.
Review 55:The island is really nice and small, you can walk around in 20 minutes. The room is small but nice.
Review 56:Some of the staff was quite rude and unhappy. Housekeeper quite lame, and worst is we had to get up early to grab a breakfast on a long cue on our holiday, that we didn't expect because this was the third island that we visited, and especially on lunch where the sand was quite hot we had to stand on the hit sand to cue for good.. The good was very overcooked wherein we realized the chef is not paying attention the way they prepared the meal for everyone, compared to Octopus resort and other island we stayed and visited for 7 days each, Beachcomber was 75 each for a meal plan other resort was 99 meal plan each but way better no cue and no long line for small amount difference.. But anyway it's quite not a bad experience and definitely we will not go back again , because of the experience we had... Also snorkelling was quite funny, they give you a free boat somewhere to snorkell but u have to swim back to get back to the island..
Review 57:The sand bar and music
Review 58:We chose to be in the twin room and it was very hot even when raining.
Review 59:Loved the bar, beach and free snorkeling trips. The food was pretty good too but quite repetitive.
Review 60:Asked to have the kettle in my room changed but they probably forgot as no one replied it.
Review 61:Great staff, they do make you feel like at home ;) Great atmosphere, plenty of really tasty food (typical dishes), free fish feeding experience.
Review 62:- Food was absolutely horrible. Long queues, leftovers served for breakfast. Not great. - Charges for umbrellas and sunbeds - Advised staff of our transfer and we were forgotten, lost hours of time and almost missed our flight. - Nowhere to relax under the shade. There are only benches. - Staff was fairly unfriendly I would give it a miss. It wasn't the best of islands, and for the price, you can get comfort and amazing food somewhere else. Overall a so-so experience which the only upside was the beach and location, marred by the horrible food. After 2 days of eating that food, I wanted instant noodles, it was that bad.
Review 63:Location was good
Review 64:just arrived in Auckland and i am so happy, beachcomber island was not amazing as i expected. My friend and i got three nights accomodition in there long time ago and i didnt know there was a bloody meal packet which was compulsory so we were shocked when we went to the island because this was the damnest thing that i had ever heard in whole my life, we had to pay 80 fijian dolars everyday each person and extend our time two more nights cause we didnt go to another island so anyway we ended up paying 800 dolars for the meals after spending 5 days in beachcomber and it was not fair!!! just rip off, they were like kind of thinking how they could get more money from these people and the other thing is this island is absolutely not a party island there was no party nothing at all!!! and all the activities that you might like doing starts from 100 dolars which is not so affordable so it is too expensive and not worth to go and i dont even want to talk about the bugs and flies they were terrible and disgusting
Review 65:the sun was so strong and we could get some sunbathing and the weather was really good even though it was meant to be the rainy season in fiji, it was sunny and over 30degrees eveyday we stayed and some of stuff were friendly not all of them, we didnt get on well in the beginning but ended up being friends
Review 66:The front office staff could have been a bit friendlier but not a big deal, lovely people all the same. Stock up on necessitys like sunscreen and after sun gel before you go and look at souvenirs else where as it can get quite expensive.
Review 67:Beachcomber is a beautiful island! The resort takes up the island and you can walk around the whole Island in about 5 minutes. Great for young couples and groups of friends. The staff were absolutely beautiful and very accomodating. Dora, Joe and the rest of the bar staff were incredible and looked after is absolutely fantastically! The snorkelling is great, three happy hours a day at the bar and the bures were beautifully cosy, all with lovely hammocks out the front.
Review 68:The night time 'entertainment' felt a bit amateur.
Review 69:Amazing scene, great bar and heaps to do on the little island. Lovely staff, great food too.
Review 70:Enforced meal plan seemed a tad draconian.
Review 71:Staff are quite friendly. Lots of actitivities during the day and night times are quite fun and party like. Dorms are quite large but fairly comfortable.
Review 72:Food was ok but nothing special. Music was playing super loud all day. If you are here for a party that is all good but if you want to relax, go somewhere else. Our room was more expensive than rooms at much more luxe resorts but I do not recommend you sleep in the large open dorm that sleeps 80. Cocktails weren't the best. Staff werent the most helpful especially when it came to organising transfers.
Review 73:Beautiful island, we had warm lovely weather! Our ocean view room was on the quiet side of the island away from the music so this was good. The snorkelling was amazing, we went just out to edge of reef on a boat and I have never swum among so many amazing fish. Island had lots of character, had a down to earth vibe as well as a party vibe. Lots of young people.
Review 74:Great staff, who are friendly and helpful. The free wifi was very good, as I wasn't expecting it. The free snorkelling was also good. Nice place to relax for a few days but probably not a whole week as may run out of things to do.
Review 75:I came for the " party island " theme. Friday nite, 10pm,12 people at Bar !! Saturday nite was better, Sunday like Friday.Food is Cafteria quality, saved only by Omlettes for breakfast. Butthe dining area was infested with flies buzzing around our feet, driving us all crazy.
Review 76:The lovely hard-working Staff, ( 22 Days on !!!, 5 Days Off ).
Review 77:The food - needs sorting out. Wifi practically non existent while we were there Had no hot water for 2 days during our stay
Review 78:Staff - Make the island - non intrusive, friendly, helpful and obliging Beauty of island and bird life Excellent Snorkling, coral and tropical fish Good after dinner activities Fun other daytime activities - parasailing, jet skiing, island hopping, day trips, Cloud 9. Sunshine and temperature
Review 79:Expensive af
Review 80:Party
Review 81:Music too loud, nothing to do, poor food, basic accommodation, no loungers only activity is the bar! Its poor.
Review 82:The food
Review 83:The staff made the trip they are amazing
Review 84:Lazy staff, poor facilities, rubbish beach, disgraceful food.
Review 85:The bar.
Review 86:Never ever, there is nothing to do overthere except drink not for me
Review 87:Nothing
Review 88:Staff were friendly and the island was beautiful
Review 89:HUT VERY WORN FOOD REALLY BAD PLASTIC MATTRESS COVER, BAR VERY SLOW INTERNET VERY ORDINARY TRANSPORT TO AND FROM TO PRICY
Review 90:STAFF AND SNORLKING
Review 91:- Food very basic compared to other places that charged the same price for all meals - Too many beds in the dorms
Review 92:+ Staff was very helpful
Review 93:The location is SUPERB! The staff are SO friendly and the laid back, casual environment is PERFECT!
Review 94:All good
Review 95:Food was average at best
Review 96:Staff were friendly and helpful
Review 97:The food was terrible. If we are required to buy the meal plan (that's expensive) it should be better.
Review 98:Great place to meet new people.
Review 99:A few maintenance issues and rubbish issues
Review 100:Very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Staff exceptionally friendly
Review 101:Great atmosphere, met some great people. Spent my days very peacefully in one of a number of hammocks around the island
Review 102:nothing
Review 103:everything
Review 104:Great staff and good snorkeling
Review 105:Perfect location. Lovely beach front bure. Food was good value for money.
Review 106:Free Wifi is great
Review 107:Free activities and happy hour for drinks and nice food
Review 108:the meal is mandatory for 80 fiji dollars each person each day.
Review 109:it has a really good view, and the island is peaceful and staff is friendly.
Review 110:The people
Review 111:amazing place for relax snorkerlling and enjoy holiday in fiji
Review 112:Lots of coral in sand so very sore walking down into the water! Food was a bit average
Review 113:Staff are amazing!! Pretty little island
Review 114:The food was awful . We booked a beach view room with air- con didn't work most of our stay.
Review 115:The island is amazing
Review 116:Compulsory meal plan was a bit of a pain.
Review 117:Island is gorgeous. Staff are beautiful. Dorms and facilities are great! Free wifi.
Review 118:Plenty to do. Food quantity
Review 119:The food was the same every day and not very nice
Review 120:The overall vibe, happy hours
Review 121:The food was not good enough and we could not use the WiFi
Review 122:The room was very clean and comfortable, the see view behind our room was excellent
Review 123:Poor food Poor wi fi unreliable
Review 124:Free snorkelling Own ocean front bure Atmosphere
Review 125:Had to pay $80 a day for food that was below average with no choices. Rip off! should have vouchers if you want to buy that food and if not utilise the snack bar where you have to pay but food is much better. They also charged my credit card but swore blind they didn't. It was a large amount and they said they would have only charged me for 2 days. Took days to work out my booking etc with them but in the meantime the bank cancelled my credit card!
Review 126:Staff
Review 127:The food was absolutely terrible, you would not feed what we were given to a dog! Did not like that they charged $80 per person/day and had set meal times!! When you are on holiday you want to eat when ever you want! It's way to expensive for the out dated rooms! It's not a party island but we made our own fun!
Review 128:The island itself is beautiful! Free snorkelling!
Review 129:No A/C. Poor lighting. Bugs everywhere and no screens. "sunset" side of island was all rocky and seaweed everywhere.
Review 130:Kayaks. Snorkeling/fish feeding for free. Turtles.
Review 131:The food was terrible and not value for money compared to the other islands we visited. WIth some of the food serving and bar staff you felt like a nuisance to them. For dinner one night we got one scoop of pasta and when a friend asked for more she was tutted at! At both normal hours and happy hour we were charged a range of prices for the same drinks!! On another island we met people who had arrived at Beachcomber the day we left and our comparison of experience at the island was unbelievable - we acknowledged that their better experience was because the top boss arrived the same day as them. We spotted her doing checks the day we left!
Review 132:For such a large open aired dorn the room was actually very peaceful and the beds were comfy and clean. The shower and bathroom areas were always clean too.
Review 133:1.meal fee" of $80.00 per day. It is rather expensive for school-cafeteria-type food which you get at the resort. 2. transfer to the mainland As it was promised while due to buying the transfer the boat will return at 9-10 to Donerau port. Really it was 16.00 and instead Donerau Ancourage place. It took about 1 hour to reach Donerau by hotel transport. We had a car reservation so our plans were broken. 3. A lot of mosquitoes and flies It is strange due to small size of island and strong winds. 4.constantly and loudly working generator near our room 5.abundance of algae and discharge sewage into the sea
Review 134:good activities and good staff,
The Fine Print
